Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter problem

I am a composer.I just bought a Macbook ProRetina (full upgraded) to link it as a slave to my main DAW (Logic) with Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 (http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/497/1685/1990/1680.htm).
The system with the new MacbookPro Retina doesn't work.
I have contacted Vienna Instruments and it seem that the problem can be on Apple side: the Thunderbolt - Ethernet adapter.
Any information or help to how to solve this problem?
Thanks!

Hi xavibcn,
I am also a composer, and I'm trying to use Vienna Ensemble Pro over a network with a Thunderbold to Ethernet adapter. Have you been able to get it to work since you posted this? Would love to hear if you found a work-around.
Thanks!

  • Problems with Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter with 10.9.1

    Hi!
I made the update to 10.9.1. During the reboot after the installation I had a kernel panic. Now my thunderbolt ethernet adapter is not working any more (it does on other macs). What can I do? I have a MacBook Pro Retina early 2013.
    Thanks,

  • The thunderbolt ethernet adapter driver problem

The thunderbolt ethernet adapter is not being recognized on my 2014 Macbook Air running 10.9.3. Is there a driver for it?  MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.9.2)

That's because there's no thunderbolt port on the 2010 MBair.  You need to buy the USB ethernet adapter.

The thunderbolt ethernet adapter works without issue on my rMBP with Windows 7. Did you download and install the Windows Support software? Did you refer to the Windows help regarding networking? Did you try a different adapter? What happens when you try to use Ethernet networking?

  • Thunderbolt ethernet adapter causing buzz within MBP.

I've noticed something very weird lately with my retina MBP. Whenever I'm loading largish (> 1mb images) files in the browser, my laptop emits a noise that sounds like there's a tiny little buzzer somewhere inside the laptop. It lasts as long as the file is loading onto the page or downloading in the background. I've been able to reduce the problem down to only occurring when I'm plugged in using a thunderbolt ethernet adapter. On power, off power, connected to external display or not, the noise is present. I would really like to stay connected to ethernet, but I have no idea where to begin fixing this very weird problem.

I bought a new adapter but this one doesn't work too! That's €29 well spent
So anybody got any clue what to do? It shows up in the system info, but there is no thunderbolt ethernet interface available in network settings...

  • Thunderbolt  ethernet adapter

    Hi,
Using the wired thunderbolt ethernet adapter my network works for about a minute after the adapter is plugged in then stops working with the cable showing as unplugged in network settings.  The only way to reconnect is to pull the adapter and re-insert it.
As far as I can tell all software and firmware is up to date.
Is this likely to be a faulty adapter or am I missing some other settings?
    thanks,
    Andy

  • Thunderbolt/Ethernet Adapter AVB/IEEE1588 Support.

    Hi,
I have just seen that the Ethernet port has been removed from the MacBook Pro (retina). The Ethernet port was interestting for AVB (audio-video-bridging) development. Now that it's gone, do you know if the Thunderbolt/Ethernet Adapter supports AVB and IEEE1588?
    Thanks!

    Yes, it will work.
All Apple Macs with a Thunderbolt port are AVB capable.

  • Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter problem

    Hi all
I have replaced my black 2008 mabcook with the new 13" retina MBP.
I bought the Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet Adapter to connect to my office network.
A access without any problem to Intranet content and file server, but when I use Internet, where I must connect via a proxy, I constantly get error messages like "the server unexpectably stopped the connection" or  a Proxy error "The number of HTTP requests per minute exceeds the limit".
I got my black macbook back to my office to test and I have no problems with it.
At home, I also have no issue using the thunderbolt adapter.
    Any suggestions?

It is always best to speak to the IT and see what they think.
I was just guessing in my post - they should give you the full answer even if they cannot alter the settings for you.
From your side you can try to work out what is generating big amount of http requests (applications you run on your MBPr while in the office?).
Also USB to Eth dongle may slow you down :-)

but I understand that buying something worse than you already have is not really an acceptable solution.

  • Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter not connecting on MacBook Pro Retina

I recently purchased the Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter to connect to my 13in MacBook Pro Retina Late 2012 (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) to a hardwired internet connection for faster downloads. However, when I connect the ethernet cord to the adapter nothing happens and only the wifi connection is identified.
Ethernet or Thunderbolt Ethernet are not an option in the System Preference > Network. Also, either connection are options when trying to add a network interface ( System Preferences > Network > + > Interface).
I have tried several fixes like Resetting PRAM or Removing Network Preferences File. The NetworkInferences.plist and Preferences.plist files did get recreated after reboot, but only the WIFI interface shows up.

I am sure the Thunderbolt ports are functional since I am able to connect my display using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Could I have corrupted the Network Preference File or is could the Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter damaged?
    Please help.

I had this problem, too, and an Apple Support call and Genius Bar visit later, I had the answer: if you're using Network Locations that preexist your Thunderbolt display, it doesn't seem to auto-add the possibility of "Display Ethernet" to your available network ports. To solve this, either:
Create a new Location in your Network system preferences. It will finally detect the "Display Ethernet" and use it. It'll slowly change from disconnected to No IP to green-is-for-go.
    or
Fix an existing Location by clicking the + to add a port and choosing Display Ethernet. It'll slowly change from disconnected to No IP to green-is-for-go.

  • Possible Realtek Ethernet Adapter Problem

When using Outlook Express (OE) over the last couple of months, I have noticed that when I bring the program up, it usually hangs with "Checking Mail" in the lower right hand corner.  There is no activity showing on ZoneAlarm.  It will never connect and I am never prompted for my password(I'm using OE to check hotmail and my cox.net mail).  When I close OE, I'm left with a Window showing that it's still checking my hotmail account.  I have a broadband cable Internet connection and I'm using a Linksys WRT54G Router.  I have the router set up to act as a DHCP server, but because there is only one computer attached, I always have the same IP address.
I have found that if I bring up a command window and run ipconfig /release | ipconfig /renew, then OE loads up fine and I am immediately prompted for my password.  Why does refreshing my IP address make it work?  Is there some setting I should change to the Ethernet adapter?  I did not have this problem until a couple of months ago and I can't narrow down any specific change that could have caused this.  I have tried making a generic shortcut that will run ipconfig for me, but the best I can do is make it bring up a command window.  Any advice?

Hey Jocko, good to hear from you.  I finally read up on Folding at Home and decided to join the team.  I'll have to keep my computer running more, but I don't think it's humanly possible to catch up to you!  I see you've upgraded since last year.    When you say Freedom AV, what are you referring to?  I have the firewall on my WRT54G enabled and I have the Windows firewall enabled.  Personally, I really think that the firewall at the router level should be sufficient, but everyone preaches the importance of having a software one as well.  I definitely trusted ZoneAlarm more than I trust Windows, but I just got tired of the annoying timeouts with OE and I feel that 1.5 levels of protection is probably OK.  What do you recommend as a good freeware firewall?  By the way, I'm running NOD32 antivirus.  As for fishing, my fishing buddy and I caught quite a few striped bass the Saturday before Christmas.  It was a nice surprise.  It's been pretty mild here for the last week and will be this week too.  Highs in the 60s, farenheit that is of course.  Have a good one.

  • Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter requires reboot to be detected...

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina running Windows 7 under boot camp, and regularly move from home to work (home where I have the thunderbolt ethernet adaptor and work where I use Wifi). Unfortunately though, when I get home I'm forced to plug in the thunderbolt ethernet adaptor and restat the machine, or it won't recognise the new connection, and stays on WiFi.
It doesn't even show up as a new device in Device Manager, not even an unrecognised one!
    Any ideas?
    Nick

Haha I know, I know! I was willing to give Mac OS a go, and DID for a little bit but I need to run a fair few windows only software suites, and REALLY like the 2880x1800 retina display (something you can't get on a windows laptop!)
2 USB 3.0 ports is enough for me really, though yes, an ethernet port would have been nice, it's not the end of the world :-)
Anyway, I actually really like the experience so far, having on a couple of small problems (Bluetooth & A2DP + Bluetooth Collaboration and this Thunderbolt Ethernet issue), but having this post here will hopefully yield a simple solution (as I have searched and found for the Bluetooth issue, Toshiba Bluetooth Stack fixed it!).
There's no point quietly accepting niggling issues if someone out there can help!

  • Do you turn off wi-fi when using Thunderbolt ethernet adapter?

I set-up the Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter for my Mac Book Pro Retina. Easy set-up.
It shows wi-fi and thunderbolt both on under Network. Do I need to turn off the Wi-Fi connection if using the Thunderbolt adapter? My internet didn't connect on my Windows laptop this morning wireless and I reset the Cable and router so it may not have had anything to do with it.
    Thanks.

I turned wi-fi off on my Mac Book Pro and left just thunderbolt ethernet connected and it is working fine. It must have been a glitch in the router or modem that messed it up this morning on my Windows laptop as that is running wireless.

  • Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter not connecting

I have spent the last two weeks scanning every single forum and every response in regards to this very question above and none have worked.
    Issue:
I am running a MBA mid 2012 on OS X 10.8.3. It is a new device. I have tried to update all thunderbolt drivers and get the regular "not supported or not compatible" because all firmware/software is up to date . I changed location settings in network adapter but nothing happens. I have done an SMC and PRAM reset but again nothing. I can see the port recognises my thunderbolt adapter (Apple standard) and shows it to be connected. I am using the same ethernet cable / settings on my standard desktop PC so i know the routing and cables are fine.
I see so many issues with the thunderbolt connection online so clearly something is a miss. I have VMWare fusion 5 installed if that helps also.
I would go to a genius bar with this but im stuck on an island in the middle of the atlantic ocean so impossible!
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
