Thunderbolt HDMI adapter compatible with my DisplayPort?

I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro, but may eventually get a newer one that has Thunderbolt instead of mini DisplayPort. For the time being, however, I need an HDMI adapter. If I purchased a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, would it at least transfer the video signal on my mid-09 (I already know it wouldn't transfer audio)? I would rather buy one adapter that works with both my current macbook and a newer one, versus buying a specific one for each. Basically, I'm asking if a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter would serve the same purpose as a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, for a computer that does not have Thunderbolt.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Instead of buying a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, because I'm not sure if a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter will work with a Mac without Thunderbolt ports. Also, for the use you want to give to the adapter, you don't need a Thunderbolt adapter. That's because Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort use the same port, so a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter will work with both MacBooks Pro.
The only difference between Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort is that Thunderbolt can transfer data, audio and video. As you want to connect an external display, you don't need to transfer data, so Mini DisplayPort will work for your use

  • Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 series

We are evaluating VMWare Site Recovery Manager 4.0. Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 Sun Storage series?

I would say the short answer would be no. The 2540 is a LSI based device, the SRM adapter for that is written by LSI. The 7000
series array is based on OpenSolaris and ZFS, quite a different beast.

Is the USB Power Adapter compatible with iPod touch 3rd generation?
The specs of the Adapter ("This accessory is compatible with the following:" in the "Overview" section) don't mention iPod touch 3rd generation. They do mention 1st and 2nd Generation
    Thanks!

    Thank you, Lyssa.
You must be right based on that article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353). The latest model of iPod touch is referred to as "iPod touch (Late 2009)" -- and NOT "iPod touch 3rd generation", as I erroneously assumed.
That completely answers my question about the USB power adapter.

  • Why won't my mini dp to hdmi adapter work with my hdtv?

I recently bought a 2011 Macbook Pro 13" notebook, and the girl who sold it to me also sold me the Moshi mini display-port to HDMI adapter. She said all I would need to hook my laptop up to my Vizio LCD hdtv was that adapter and a regular HDMI cable. So I've now tried to hook them up no less than 10 times, and nothing still. The only thing that happens is, my laptop screen will turn blue and adjust the screen size as if it's trying to adjust to the TV, and my TV will say "retrieving data." So it looks like it's getting ready to connect, and then my computer screen will go back to normal, and my TV will then say either "not support" (whatever that means) or "no signal." Now I know there is nothing wrong with my macbook, since I have been able to hook it up to the TV with my friend's adapter. I thought she had the same adapter as me, but now that I really look at it, I think it's a display-port to VGA adapter. Plus the cable she uses is something other than an HDMI cable. Does anyone know why my adapter isn't working? Or is it possible that it's just faulty and I wasted my money? (Note: I've tried adjusting the resolution, display, etc, and nothing makes a difference).

I too experienced the same issue.  Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port.  What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol.  At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally.  Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite?  I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.

  • Is Apple video adapter compatible with my 12 inch ibook G4?

    HI.
Sorry if i'm repeating an old topic, but I can't seem to find this specific question in any of them. i was reading on the apple website that the video adapter M9109G/A (Model no) Is only compatible with ibook's without the external reset button? What exactly do they mean by external reset button? Mine has a reset/startup button on the right, just above the keyboard. Is that what they are referring to?
Anyway, I'm sure someone here can help me out.
    Thanks
    Steve

You are talking about the power button on your iBook G4. You can see a couple examples of reset buttons in KB 14449, Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU).
The M9109G/A is the correct cable for your iBook.

  • Searching for USB to VGA or DVI adapter compatible with linux

    Hello everyone,
Since my HP mini is lacking a VGA connector (in fact, there's a proprietary one, but the cable for that is rare and expensive), I'm thinking of buying an USB adapter to plug a monitor.  I don't care if the connector is VGA or DVi.
There're a lot of these adapters, but I'm not sure if any is compatible with Linux.
After a lot of searches, I still didn't find something  useful.
Is there anyone who had experience with this kind of adapter or can point me some documentation about that ?

Just so I understand correctly... these USB to VGA/DVI adapters are video cards in their own right, yes? Something that I know works with Linux it the Villagetronic VTBook http://www.villagetronic.com/vtbook/index.html. It's a PCMCIA card (which is faster than usb 2) but you can get USB to PCMCIA adapters.

  • USB-to-VGA adapter compatible with Mac?

    Hi,
I'm trying to hook up an additional external monitor to my MacBook Pro using a USB-to-VGA adapter. I don't need any kind of graphics acceleration.
Here is the type of adapter I'm looking at:
    http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GUC2015V
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812203013
Apparently some have gotten the 2nd one to work on Linux with the sisusb driver. Does anybody know if this is compatible with Mac OS X?
    Thank you!
    MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory

Your Mac came with a DVI to VGA adapter. Why do you need a USB one, when the DVI one is faster and more reliable?
    Note the specs:

If yours was missing the adapter which is shown "In the box", call AppleCare to ask a replacement be sent.

  • Are all tv's with hdmi inputs compatible with Apple TV2?

I am considering purchasing a new TV.  My older model Sony TV, even though it has an HDMI input, is not compatible with Apple TV.  Do I have to take my Apple TV to Best Buy and plug it into every TV I look at to determine if they are compatible? Does Apple publish a list of compatible TV's?

I receive an errror message telling me that my HDMI connection is not HDCP compatible.  I contacted Apple Support, visited my local Apple Store (with my Apple TV2), and bought new cables...nothing works.  I cannot watch Netflix or stream movies I have purchased from my iMac onto my TV.  Very frustrating.

  • Is the Linksys WMP54G PCI adapter compatible with the Airport Extreme?

I have set up my network using the Airport Extreme and am able to connect my iMac, my Macbook Pro, and two Windows laptops without difficulty. However, the two Windows desktops that I have are using the Linksys PCI wireless adapters (WMP54G) and they both do not even see my network. They are able to see the neighbors' networks just fine, though.
I called Linksys and they assure me that the cards are compatible with the Airport Extreme. Linksys advised me to adjust my settings or call Apple for support. I have tried configuring the Airport, but I don't really know what settings to change. Has anyone else successfully connected using this adapter? If so, could you help me connect? Thank you very much!

Ok, thanks! Try the following setting on the WMP54G PCI adapter:
o Look at page 12 of the adapter's User Guide for reference ...
o For Security, select WPA Personal
    o For Encryption, select AES
If this doesn't work, try reconfiguring the AEBSn for WPA Personal (not WPA2 Personal), and then make the following change on the adapter:
    o For Encryption, select TKIP

  • Is this PCMCIA cardbus adapter compatible with WallStreet?

Greetings, I too have inherited an older laptop - in this case, a PB G3 (black) which I'm pretty sure is the Wall St. model. I'd love to bring it up to date and I found this item online for only about $14.
Sabrent USB 2.0 PCMCIA Cardbus Adapter (2 Ports) with USB Power Cable
I just don't know if it will work, though the description says it's mac compatible. If anyone here knows, please let me hear from you, or if you can recommend something that's best for this model. It looks like I can just plug it into the slot on the side and, wow, I can connect USB devices! I'd like to have one port for FireWire, but that might be pushing it with this older powerbook. BTW, it only has OS 8.1 installed...is there any problem? Of course I'd like to have OS 9.2 (I have the disc from my powermac), or even OS X 3.9...is that also possible?
    Many thanks,
    Keith

    Keith,
Sounds like a good price for the CD-ROM.
I cannot say with any confidence that your machine-specific PowerMac OS 9.1 will boot the Wallstreet...it may. Starting with 9.1, some of the machine-specific MacOS CDs (Installer CDs, not the ones that had 'Restore' on the label) would boot other models. If it does not, you will have to buy the retail MacOS 9.x CD or install in the method described earlier. All I can say at this point is to wait for the CD-ROM drive to arrive, then see if your OS 9.1 CD will boot.
Just a quick note: If the OS 9.1 does not appear to boot when restarting and pressing the 'c' key, reset the PRAM, then try again.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
If the 9.1 CD does boot, I would recommend you do NOT update your installed OS 8.1; select erase and perform a clean install. You want to start out with fresh HD, not one that may have problems.
Please note this before installing 9.1: Since the Wallstreet does not have built-in USB ports, the necessary USB extensions will not be installed from the MacOS System CD. The easiest workaround is to have your USB PC card installed in the PCMCIA card slot before installing the OS. When the installer runs, it will "see" the USB hardware and install the appropriate drivers (extensions). When you pop the USB card in the slot under your OS 8.1, you will get a message that says the necessary drivers are not installed and would you like to eject the card...do not eject it. You can also Custom Install the extensions if you do not have the USB PC card.
Another little item with USB PC cards:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31135
The OWC Universal Hard Drive (ATA/IDE) to USB 2.0 Adapter is only used for one purpose; it allows you to connect a bare HD to a USB port. I suggested using this cable if you wanted to remove the Wallstreet's HD and connect it to your PowerMac and install an OS on the WS's HD. This USB cable was an alternative to placing the Wallstreet's HD in a 2.5" USB HD enclosure.
If you want to connect USB devices like a printer to the WS, you still need the USB 2.0 PC card.
With the Wallstreet's media bay CD-ROM, you will then be able to install apps, etc, from this drive. And with compatible MacOS CDs, you will be able to boot the Wallstreet from the CD-ROM drive.
It is easy to install RAM and I would suggest buying from OWC. If you stay with 9.x, I would think a 128MB module would be plenty of RAM; this will give you a total of 160MB (32MB lower slot + 128MB upper slot).

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your workstation.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03137126/c03137126.pdf
You will find the list of compatible power adapters with HP part numbers in chapter 3, page 32.
A 90W adapter is not listed as compatible.  120W is the least wattage recommended.

  • Is Lightning Adapter compatible with audio speakers?

So I purchased a cheap lightning to 30 pin adapter from eBay - it works with my USB cable for charging, but not when I put it into my speaker ( a Kitsound panda dock).
I have heard mixed reviews about the Apple branded adapters compatability with audio acessories and was wondering if it would be worth trying it?
Reviews seem to hint towards it working with in-car audio, but not with speaker docks?
Can anyone shed light on if it will work to play music on my docking system?
If not, is there anyway to get around this problem besides buying new speakers!?

you mean the 65 watts adapter? If your T410 came with Nvidia GPU, it is recommended that you use the 90 watt adapter, but you can still use the 65 watts adapter when the battery is full, but the laptop maybe throttle down accordingly.

Hi all,?Does anyone know if the power adapter that comes with the Zen Vision W work with the Zen Vision M? I checked the voltage input of the adapter and it's the same as the Vision M (DC IN 5V) but it's happened to me before where I used a different adapter for another MP3 player I had, the voltage requirements were the same and it ended up frying the battery... any insight you have is appreciated? Thanks!

Should be fine, your Watch will control how much power it takes.
