Thunderbolt HDMI not transmitting to Samsung TV?

Hi there,
I have a HDMI cord running through the wall, up the attic, and out to my Samsung TV. It normally works with everything else. When I plug in the Thunderbolt to HDMI cable and plug in to outlet (that runs through the house out to my Samsung), the MacPro (tower) doesn't show any display options for it. It's as if it is not there at all. The retina screen works fine, which is what I use for my MacPro (tower) and is used with thunderbolt. Why is this happening? Does the cable need a booster? All 4 ports for thunderbolt on the back of my tower work for my retina screen (Mac), but will not output anything to my HDMI Samsung Television. I am using Mountain Lion, latest version.
Thank you, and help would be greatly appreciated.
Best.

If you are running 10.8.5 you don't have a PowerMac.
If you have a Thunderbolt connector, you don't have a PowerMac.  PowerMac refers to tower Macs prior to early 2006.
Use this tip to properly identify your Mac:
http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6413
That will tell us what connectors are normally found on your Mac.  If you have a Mac with removable graphics cards, go to your System Profiler and tell us what graphics card you have.   If you have a cheese grater case Mac Pro, it does not normally have Thunderbolt.  The black "trash can" Mac Pro is the only one that has it built-in.

  • MacBook Pro does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone?

My MacBook Pro (newest model in 2013 so far) does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone else who has this issue? I returned my multiple HDMI adapters after figuring out it had to be an Apple issue n not the adapters so I can't check it myself now.
    Thanks!

I have late 2012 MBP 13" and connect to my Panasonic Plasma correctly.
But using the same cable, can't connect to an LG 47LM6200, the MBP detects the TV, the screen blinks blue, but the TV shows "no sinal detected" message.

  • Apple TV not seen by Samsung DLP TV via HDMI input

I have a Samsung HL-R5677W. It's a few years old, but I decided to hook up the following via HDMI
    - Playstation 3
    - Apple TV
Since the Samsung only has one HDMI, I am using the Monster HDMI Advanced 3-way switcher switch that supports 3 inputs. And I purchased three 4' Ultra 600 High speed HDMI Monster cables ($100 ea.).
The playstation 3 works fine. However, my Apple TV is not being detected by the Samsung. The TV gives me a no or low signal message on the screen. So when I connect the Apple TV directly, the Samsung sees it (signal) and I get video and audio.
Your first thought is that it's the HDMI switcher switch, right!? Nope I unplugged the HDMI cable from the Samsung and plugged it into my Viewsonic N3251 LCD TV (vs11335-1m) and it detects the Playstation AND the Apple TV.... So it's not the HDMI switcher switch.
Oh, and BTW, the Apple TV works fine directly plugged into the Samsung....
Does the Samsung tv have a higher signal level requirement?
    Is it the Samsung TV?
    Is it the Apple TV?
Is there a better HDMI switch box and/or cable for me to use?
The next hurdle is getting the optical audio to work, if it's necessary. I want to play the audio through my A/V unit not just the TV.... Any suggestions?
    Thanks

There have been many posts on HDMI switch boxes and problems these have. Do a search by entering "HDMI switch box" in the search box (upper right on this page) and look through the posts. That may help you.
As for the optical, can't you connect the optical cable directly to your A/V unit? I do that (with HDMI going to my TV) and that works. (I do have to switch off sound on the TV using its menu.)

Try it on another HDMI display see if you have the same issue.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode with the MacBook as the main screen. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
The TV will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it. But you can move the cursor to the MacBook screen and move windows from the TV over to the MacBook screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

  • Picture is blurry when i connect my screen (HP) with thunderbolt - HDMI

Hi I just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch. I am connecting it to my screen HP 2159m but I cannot get the same picture quality as with my old PC. It is dark and blurry in comparence. I have set it with 1080p 60hz wich is the highest resolution I can find in the settings their is no option 1920x1080 in the setting list. I called apple support but they couldn't fix the problem. I am connecting with thunderbolt - HDMI to my macbook. My PC was connected with DVI.

I now solved my issue by buying a DVI -mini display port adapter and connecting through my DVI cable to the monitor. But APPLE ...this is not good! you should resolve this issue so it is possible to connect with a HDMI cable.

  • THUNDERBOLT/HDMI

Why does my thunderbolt/HDMI cable not work on my macpro - for watching what is on my LT on my tv?

To set the resolution for your display, the Mac sends an EDID request to the display, and the display is supposed to answer with its name and its capabilities.
The request is sent out only at certain times, and the TV must be set to the correct input and must answer, or the display stays dark. These times are:
    • At Mac Startup
    • System Preferences > Displays ... Hold option key and click (Identify Displays )
    • When the Mac-end of the cable is inserted.
    • At wake from sleep
If the display is identified, its name will become the name of the window in Displays Prefs for that display, and it will also appear in:
 menu > About This Mac > ( More Info ) > Displays .. and Report > Graphics and Displays

  • Issues with Thunderbolt-HDMI connection on Mid-2012 MacBook Pro

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro (non-Retina display) and just bought a thunderbolt-HDMI connector, but it's not working. A screen appears on the TV, only it's not my desktop screen, but the standard galaxy image in most Macs. Any idea how to fix this issue?

Your TV is extending your desktop. You can drag some of your windows off of the MBP internal screen onto the TV. You can control how the two screens are related spacially at System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.
If you want the two screens to show the same picture, you should turn off "mirroring" on that same setting page.

  • Are there still issues with HDMI with Fios and samsung Tvs

Are there still issues with HDMI with Fios and samsung Tvs?  If so what samsung Tvs are affected? I have the HP T4254 42 inch plasma.  Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

HDMI issues abound with all providers and all TV manufacturers. Samsung does seem to have its fair share of the complaints, and not just with Verizon FIOS. Always make sure you have the latest firmware for your TV. Others seem to find success by reverting to component plus audio cables (still full 1080i). A quick search of these forum for "HDMI handshake issues" will reveal several threads for you to study. Also try other forums for other providers. Another resource is avsforum.com where you can specifically search for problems unique to your very model of TV.

Yes. That is the best way to add and remove devices from the Thunderbolt chain while Windows 7 is running.

There are multiple reasons that lead to issue. You should read the troubleshooting guide to get the right solution to solve the issue: iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

  • Thunderbolt Ethernet not working after Yosemite upgrade

Upgraded last night to 10.10, and now my Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter has no MAC address, and my MBP appears to think the cable is unplugged - it's not, and worked fine when the MBP was running 10.9 yesterday. Things which haven't worked:
Deleting and re-adding via Network Preferences
Changing default IPv6 to Link-local only
Rebooting with the thunderbolt adapter in
Rebooting with the thunderbolt adapter not in
Switching the thunderbolt adapter to the port further from the hinge and back again
Unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable
Plugging the ethernet cable directly into the wall jack instead of the hub it has always been plugged into
    Unplugging and replugging the Thunderbolt
Changing Location to "Work" from "Automatic" and back again

the link provide above leads to  http://plugable.com/2014/10/31/os-x-10-10-yosemite-ethernet-adapter-problems-we- can-help
...but these seem to be all 3rd party USB ethernet adapters and nothing to do with the Thunderbolt adapter of the thread - or am I missing something?
I have the same blooming problem, it seems to be totally hit and miss whether the adapter works or not.
I thought is was a faulty adapter, so even bought a second one for my MacBook Pro, so a bit more profit for the most profitable company in the world for a non working device.  My ethernet cable works fine to an old apple USB adapter but is 90% useless with Thunderbolt.
Renewing the DHCP lease occasionally works, but totally unreliable, at the moment it fails.
Still looking for a reliable solution.
Come on Apple, please sort this out, you have a connector policy of turning everything you can into adapters and dongles rather than building them in, so you end up with a slim laptop and a bag of adapters to carry around, and then when they don't  even work - doubly annoying.

  • GOA Internal notes and Vendor text not transmitted to R/3

    Hi SRM Gurus,
I'm currently working with SRM_SERVER 500(SAPKIBKS09) release, we use ECS (Extended Classic Senario) and we have following problem with global outline agreements (GOA).
In a GOA, the Internal notes and vendor text can be entered on Header and Item level. But the information from a GOA are not transmitted to R/3.
    Do you know why !?

  • Remmina not transmitting mouse wheel to VNC session

    Hi,
I have just noticed that remmina is not transmitting mouse wheel events to VNC session. Never tried RDP, so I don't know if this is also affected.
First question: Is it only on my system or a general problem on Arch ?
If it is a general problem on Arch ...
I did a bit research abot this subject area, and I found some bug reports in multiple distros, but they are all marked as solved. So I think that it is fixed upstream. Otherwise the distros could not mark it as solved, right ?
If the package maintainer should read this ... is there a plan to update this package in near future ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Markus

Usability bugs. The most annoying one was the size of the remmina window that was "never" right. And clicking the "1" button (top left) did unpredictable things. In most cases the window was maximised to full screen height leaving black bars above and below. The bug seems to appear less and less. I promise I will file a bug when I experience it again :-)
Crashes were always rare in my case.
But here's not the right place to lament around.

  • Thunderbolt ethernet not working when computer wake up from sleep.

thunderbolt ethernet not working when computer wake up from sleep.
it will not happen in Mountain loin.

I had this problem on SL and on Lion as well, and it occures for WiFi and Ethernet connections.
In fact the internet connection was not broken as I could ping the destination usin the IP (not DNS name).
In this case the problem was related to mDNSResponder task which handles all dns queries.
It was the most frequent problem in my day to day work with SL and now Lion. It was never fixed by any patch from Apple. I tried almost all voodoo including fresh install, all possible config changes - no solution.
The only version with no problems related to network was 10.5.8. All the other versions had issues of different kind (WiFi instability (lost signal), DNS problems (for wireless and wired connection) sometimes associated with machine sleep and wake up and sometimes with no reason.
QUESTION: Is your problem independent of the access point / router you connect to.
I must say networking was (and still is) the weakest part, besides the other OS X weaknesses I experienced during 4 years of OS X usage.
No problems in the same network with Linux or Windows beeing ran natively on my iMac So hardware is OK.
Software is of poor quality. Not much more to say in this matter.
I found a very interesting article dated 1996 about programming which I think is still valid.
    Link to the article: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/06/writestuff.html
Below the fragment (with some connection to Apple)
Software is everything. It also s***s.
