Thunderbolt hub with dvi-d dual-link, daisy chain that isn't too expensive?

I've been following a number of thunderbolt hub progress for 2 years now, and STILL can't find one that I need.
UTTERLY MUST HAVE dual dvi. This means a minimum resolution of 2560x1440, which is what my current 27" IPS monitor does.
UTTERLY MUST HAVE gigabit ethernet. Wireless N does not cut it.
Really nice to have a daisy chain so I can hook it to my thunderbolt external drive, but not critical.
NICE TO HAVE a power out so I can power my MBA from it, e.g. have two cords - thunderbolt + power, so I don't have to carry a spare power adaptor to the office.
Basically what I've been seeing is either DVI single, or hdmi, or no daisy chain, or no video at all.
Here's things I've looked at that DON'T cut it:

http://www.belkin.com/us/support-article?rnId=8415
http://www.caldigit.com/thunderboltstation/index-ee.html
Oh, and just to pre-empt the guy who who inevitably suggest that I just buy a new apple display (as if they are worth throwaway money): NOT AN AFFORDABLE SOLUTION, please just move on.

I don't believe that a product exists that meets all your requirements, though it's possible I've missed something. Probably the only way you'd get even the primary two requirements is to get an expansion chassis and add the appropriate PCI cards, and that's not going to be cheap.

  • No display when connect DVI-D dual link cable

    Hi
I am using MS-6398 motherboard and I have the latest Bios 5.60.  when I connect DVI-D dual link cable from ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV graphic card to my SONY SDM-M81 Flat Panel.  There is no display at all during POST as well as after boot up. It has display only if I connect with regular analog VGA cable.  I have contacted the ATI tech support and they ask me to contact the manufacturer of my motherboard because it don't have display during POST which is nothing to do with driver.
    thanks,
    Siong

DVI-D port on the Ultradock is single link only.
If you need DVI-D at dual link resolution (i.e. 2560x1600), you need an active displayport to dual link converter. Startech makes them, they should be around 80 USD or something of that region.

  • DVI-D Dual link and DVI-D Single link

I have here a FPD2185W Gateway 21" monitor that will not connect to my mac via the MBP's DVI port. I sent in the Mac for repair and it was sent back saying "everything is A-OK". Now my question is, are the cables that i am using effecting the functionality because i know the monitor works on a PC via DVI, but not the mac. The Cable im using now is a DVI-D Dual Link cable. would it be wise to try the Single link cable? I am pretty sure i have tried everything, and am desperate to get a DVI signal going to my monitor instead of the VGA.
    -thanks, grant

Do a Google search on "FPD2185W Mac" and you'll see quite a few problem reports. It seems like the Gateway display is the problem and just won't work properly with some Macs.

  • Does 785GM-E51 DVI support dual link?

I am considering buying the 785GM-E51 motherboard which comes with a DVI port (as well as HDMI and VGA of course).
Will the DVI support dual link?  If so, what is the maximum resolution I could have on the two monitors (say, at 60 Hz with high colour depth)?
    Cheers!
    jcarrete

Please clarify your question, dual link has nothing to do with being able to use two displays.
"Dual-link should not be confused with dual display (also called dual head), which describes those situations where a computer is hooked up to two monitors at once. "
     That quote from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface
That been said I think you should be able to have 2 displays, 1 DVI or HDMI + VGA You can't have 2 digital out at the same time though, DVI + HDMI.

  • Why does thunderbolt/mini displayport to active Dual Link DVI apdater not work  on Osx Lion 10.3

Hi I am using a Korean IPS display PCBANK 27 Inch on my Macbook Pro Late 2011 with OSX Lion 10.3
I am currently using a Official Apple Displayport/Thunderbolt -> Dual Link DVI D Adapter.
When I use a windows 7 boot cd it powers up the monitor and it displays. When I use a Linux Live CD it boots the monitor up and displays at full resolution.
When I use Osx Lion 10.3 it does not even detect the display at all which quite odd.
Can anyone help me trouble shoot.
I went to options and screen settings and tried detect display it comes up with nothing :S I am thinking it has to do with APPLES ATI drivers? perhaps? I have a 6750 HD.
    Anyone ?

Above mentioned graphics card can only go as high as 2048 x 1536 where the 27" Cinema Display does 2560x1440 by native. Atlona's AT-DP400 will only pass the given resolution through the display and won't be able to reach to the maximum supported resolution and 1280x720 will become the next available/supported resolution by the monitor. Atlona makes another model of signal converter which also scales to the native resolution (2560x1440), Model#AT-HD620 which will work the best for your setup.

  • No Video from Mini-DisplayPort or DVI, only Dual-Link DVI

Just got my new Mac Pro 6-Core delivered. Out of the box, there were problems. I have a Dell 27" monitor that takes Dual-Link DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI and a Dell 22" monitor that takes DVI, VGA, or HDMI. I am using a DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable to connect my 27" monitor to the Mac Pro and a DVI cable for my 22" monitor. I have the ATI 5870 graphics card installed OEM.
The problem is that the graphics card appears to not be switching to Mini-DisplayPort or DVI for output. It only works when I plug in a Dual-Link DVI cable to my 27" monitor. At that point, I get a video feed on my screen on a hard boot. At this point, I can then plug in my Mini-DisplayPort cable to my Mac Pro and unplug the Dual-Link DVI cable, and it switches video feeds perfectly. The problem then is that when I restart the computer, or power off and power on, the problem starts all over again. I HAVE to boot using the Dual-Link DVI cable for anything to work.
Ideas? Called AppleCare, waiting on engineering to see what they have to say. All the cables work perfectly when I plug them into my MacBook Pro (Late 2008). I am stumped.

I seem to be having similar problems. I bought the same system (6-core Westmere with the 5870 graphic card installed OEM) last month and I seem to be having problems running two Dell monitors which I know to be perfectly fine.
For the past month, I've been using a 24" Dell U2410 monitor with my Mac Pro using a DVI cable. Absolutely no problems at all. I then purchased another 24" Dell U2410 with the intention of running with dual displays. To prepare for this, I bought two mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables from Monoprice. When I finally received the second display, I turned off the computer, hooked up both monitors through DisplayPort using the two mini-DisplayPort connections on the graphics card and turned on the system. I got two black screens. I tried to use keyboard commands to bring up the shutdown dialog box but it wasn't working. So I was forced to do a hard shutdown by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.
I went through a series of combinations of power cycles for the displays and computer and still two black screens. Finally, I went back to square one, a single display through a DVI cable. Again, a black screen. At this point, I disconnected the display from the computer. Power cycled the display (this initiates the self-test for the Dell display), hooked it up to the Mac Pro, turned it on, and it worked. I had one working display. Then I plugged in the second display using the mini-DisplayPort to Display port cable and that worked also. Finally, two working displays. For some reason, the Mac Pro recognized the display using the DisplayPort as the primary monitor. I rebooted the Mac Pro and the monitors continued to work properly. I booted into Windows 7 and again, no problems. I went back to OS X and used the computer for the night. When I was done, it put it to sleep.
This morning, when I tried to wake it up, same problems. I had to go through a series of power cycles and cable swapping to finally get a single screen to work.
I went through some of the troubleshooting documents here in the Support area and found this one:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4279
I am going to pick up the Apple mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter and try running the display as two DVI monitors. Hopefully this will fix those problems. If the AppleCare engineer is able to give you anymore information, please let us know. This is a worrisome issue.

No problem. It is an older monitor. But being a small business, we can't afford to discard a working monitor that costs $1500 to replace.
The annoying part is that we tried to do a lot of research prior to purchase to find out exactly what resolutions the Lenovo docking solutions supported. We asked our rep to check because of the total lack of Lenovo documenation on this. We would not have wasted all this time trying to get it to work if we had known.
Even now, no one from Lenovo has come right out and stated that their docking stations don't support Dual Link. I think that they actually have no idea.
We've been bounced around and around between the same Lenovo sales, support and customer service numbers so many times in the past three days that they are now just dropping our calls in the hope that we will go away. No one at Lenovo has offered a solution of any kind.
FYI, we've even been told that because we ordered the W540 through CDW that there is 'nothing Lenovo can do.'

  • Trying to record multiple tracks (24) in Garageband with 3 presonus firestudio devices daisy-chained together.

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

you'll need to create an aggregate device:

Yes. A single-link DVI connection can't drive that monitor at its maximum resolution.

  • Mac Mini with BenQ W100 Projector (No signal with DVI Dual cable)

Hi all, just bought a Mac Mini Intel 1.6ghz. Also have a BenQ W100 Projector which have been using for some months with a PC. Now comes the problem! I have bought a DVI-DVI cable (Dual link) and plugged the Mac into the Projector and NOTHING APPEARS! No source found at all. The input on the projector is DVI-I according to the BenQ website.
Question is, am i using the right cable? Is the Mac Mini even compatible with this projector? Nobody seems to know, even BenQ!!
    Thanks for any help
    BEN

Hi, FYI this is the cable I have. Strangely it only references HD sources and not computers on the description? I would note that PC World (where i bought it from) have shown this cable operating on a PC unit and LCD monitor so im presuming its nothing to do with the cable?)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-PureAV-Digital-Video-Dual-Link/dp/B0003057GO[/URL]
I used a VGA to DVI cable when the PC was running on the projector. which shows a picture no problem. I tried using the DVI/VGA adaptor that came with the Mac then plugging the VGA-DVI cable into it. As i say no picture just a flicker now and then.
I have tested Mini and he works fine on a LCD TV using the VGA/DVI adaptor and a standard VGA-VGA cable.
I guess i will exchange the cable and see what happens!

  • New Dual-Link Adapter on Gateway 30" Monitor, Thinks DVI!

I have the new dual-link cable attached between my macbook pro and a Gateway 30" Display. For some reason my display is only detected as having a regular dvi cable attached and won't support a resolution higher than 1920X1200. The monitor itself is capable of 2580X1600 and works on a Windows pc this way.
Do I have a defective cable or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Not that it matters, I suppose... But I'd like to know who it is that is diverging from the Dual-Link DVI specification. If the panel works with any brand and model of 'PC' graphics card that supports Dual-Link but does not work with Apple's Dual-Link DVI port, who is really the culprit? That's assuming it's a hardware issue.
If it's a software/driver issue, then I see no reason that this wouldn't be fixed by Apple as other third party hardware support issues are fixed by them all the time. Some might say that Apple ensuring more sales of their own displays is the reason, and they may be right, but I find that a disservice to the end user.
I'm staying steady on with the monitor as on January 9th the real reason for it's purchase will arrive: A Penryn-based PC with 3 Nvidia 1GB GTX 280's running in 3-way SLI. This year I switched to Mac after 20 years of Windows. However, after 20 years of being a hardcore PC gamer, I accepted that my changeover would come with the price of having to maintain two systems: One that can play some games, and one that can play all games, and play them at the top of their performance potential. It will be my first Vista machine, and I enjoy the humor in the fact that it will never be used for anything other than playing games. (Anyone who understands what '20 years of hardcore PC gaming' means will know not to bother uttering the word, 'console'.)
I'm going to keep Googling around to see if I can find any evidence of someone running a previous gen MBP with this monitor. If it's a bust, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I may still switch back to a previous gen as I have a couple other issues with the new one, but either way, I'm still super happy that I've made the switch to OS X and I can't imagine ever going back.
Though I'll be making daily visits for things like this:
