Thunderbolt ICS Update Issues

Me, my wife and every other Thunderbolt user  I know (people from AZ to NY) through Verizon are having serious issues with this update. I have been through tier 2 Verizon support and multiple hard resets through the Verizon store with the final verdict from Verizon "The hardware on your phone cannot handle the update. You will need to upgrade your phone." NO! Verizon should not put an update out for a phone they sell that cannot handle the update. To me and many others this is just a way to force you to upgrade a phone that was working flawlessly. Up until now I have been very happy with Verizon but finding out that I cannot revert to the old operating system that worked perfectly we are done with Verizon. Keep in mind this is not an HTC problem. The Thunderbolt is an awesome phone. So today we are going to upgrade. Not with Verizon but with ATT to change carriers and see how they do. We have already found that the monthly service will be a bit less through ATT for the same service. I would not be surprised that there will be a class action law suit against Verizon over this if there is not already one. If I do find one I will be joining them.

"We have already found that the monthly service will be a bit less through ATT for the same service."
I have a natural resistance to shopping cell phone plans but VW's ever increasing cost for decreasing service got me over my potential energy barrier.  Like giles16 I found that I can actually get better features from that same provider and for $10/month less.   Verizon Wireless wants to knock me down from Unlimited to 2GB .  I know, I rarely use more than 1.5GB in a month so they tell me I should not care. But I do care!  Turn about is fair play Verizon.  Since I rarely use more than 1.5GB per month you should have no problem keeping me on my current plan instead of ticking me off.  I'm not going to be a sheep and just take what you offer.  I'll just have to vote with my feet and leave.
For $10/month less I'll get 5GB on my phone, and tethering included, and hotspot included and I'll get 3GB eachof my other two smartphones and I'll get more talk minutes than I ever use for my other two feature phones, and unlimited text too.
So less $, more data.  Oh yeah!  No $30 upgrade fee.  And the new phone I want is $100 less there than from VW.
Counting the days until all my phones are out of contract.  Then I'll be again.

  • ICS update issue.

I received the ICS update on my RAZR this morning and was happy to receive it, but now the phone constantly reboots, Apps open, but the entire phone locks up within 30 seconds and then the phone reboots.  This is not a good user experience.  Anyone else having these issues or know how to fix them?

Motorola recommends a factory data reset after downloading the update. I did it and update is much more settled now.  I'm not having any resets and it works far better than GB. I recommend downloading Google Chrome and using it as your main browser.  It works amazingly well with ICS and is certainly optimized for smartphone use. Videos play with Chrome.

  • Android ics update issues

Since the update, the tablet seems less stable when docked in the docking station. I have Cassandra set as the default to turn on when it is docked. Usually when I dock it, then click the power button the screen would go dark and stay "off". Now it does go dark but in the morning it is on again. Today i returned home and the tablet was stuck at startup (the swirled orangey ribbon, swirling over and over), holding down the power button would not do anything, eventually it started up after holding the power button close to 2 min.
2nd: have you tried to log into this forum using the tablet? The boxes to enter the user name and password don't open the keyboard all the time. I had to bust out my iPad to log in and type this message.

    USER-914437,
I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Have you tried to perform a reset? There should be a small hole on the side of the tablet where you will need a small pin.
Also we are planning to refresh / redesign our forum for mobile device such as tablet and phones. This is coming soon (within 2012).

  • HTC THUNDERBOLT GINGERBREAD UPDATE ISSUE

    Moved for greater exposure

I was having the same issue and it was driving me crazy.
After investigating, here's what I found:
Battery management software was killing my connection when the screen turns off (I normally have the app aggressively managing power, since this phone tends to eat through battery life).
Disabling (force stop, in this case) the app stopped the manager from switching off the radio when the phone wasn't being used.
    GB is currently installing.

  • ICS Update Caused Sound Issues

I just received the ICS update last night (at 3 a.m. - thanks for the heads up on that VZW...), and now when I make & receive calls the user on the other end can only hear me if I use my speaker phone.  Is anyone else having this issue?  Ideas on how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

Wow, you guys are not going to believe this! I found someone who had the answer, at least it worked on my T-Bolt. This gal (I assume because user name is Joy11) called Verizon customer support and they told her to go to (ready for it?) Settings-Call, scroll down to Other Call Settings and unclick the Hearing Aids check box. I just did that, sure enough it was checked, unchecked it, and made a call. Phone worked. Person could hear me just fine.
I have absolutly NO idea how that box got checked. It had to have come that way with the ICS update. When I woke up Friday morning and saw that the phone was updated, I did not goof with it but went on with my morning routine. It wasnt until I tried to call a client that I found he couldnt hear me. I cannot believe how much aggrivation and time I have put into this ******* problem and how close I came to doing a Factory Reset or <Comment deleted per the ToS.> phone.
I promised on another forum that I wouldnt rant about Verizon, HTC and sneak attack updates until I got my phone fixed. If you will excuse me, it's time to go and fullfill my promise. I have plenty to say.

  • ICS update - Xperia GO - performance issues

    Hi,
I am from INDIA, I got the ICS update for my Xperia GO and I feel that the performance and the speed of the phone has come down a litte...
I tried stopping some of the apps which are running in the background but still it lags a little.
I am facing this issue after my phone got updated to ICS 4.0.4.
Did anyone whose is having Xperia GO ICS 4.0.4 facing similar issues....?

    Same problem.
    Games are not fun anymore.
Basic operation on main menu became much slower...
And Sony support sais they are not supporting downgrading, so there is no official way of doing it back!
Ah: and did Update repair... something like 15 times. No result.

  • Will ICS update fix overheating issues on Xperia Mini?

Like seemingly thousands of other people my Mini was turned in to a brick because of overheating causeing the back and menu buttons to constantly trigger. (This problem: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/23778?start=960&tstart=0). In a different country to place of purchase so warranty doesn't work and its been sitting in the drawer doing nothing for a few months.
Question is, will the same problem persist after the ICS update? Will all those people like myself who were sold a dud be able to take them out of the drawer? I literally have to open the freezer and rub the phone over a bag of peas for it to work. (Nice engineering there Sony)
There is apparently a fix that involves rooting the phone and running a script to reduce touch screen sensitivity.. but I have neither the time nor technical proficiency to be sure that I wouldn't mess it up. Why Sony hasn't implemented a touchscreen sensitivity slider in the phone options.. I don't know...
Anyway.. given that it is a whole new operating system, will the issue still be there? Or should us Mini owners just forget it and throw the thing in the bin?

I had also the same problem. After a couple of months I gave up and bring the phone to the service center. They have fixed it in half hour by doing calibration. I have made a backup of all applications since the procedure erase everything on phone (not sd card). Make sure you sync contact with google or export them to sd card. Now its working fine.  They said that the program update will not fix this.
As I can see and I read from service paperm they had change the whole screen with front cover , microphone and a usb cap. Who knows why.

  • Issues in ICS update for Xperia Arc

I am using Xperia Arc. I have done the ICS update recently and I am totally disappointed with this update. The thing is some features already there in the 2.3.4 version of android is not there in ICS update.
When long press the power button ‘take screenshot’ option was there in the 2.3.4 but in ICS that option is not there.
I have seen the beautiful lock screen in ICS forums but it is missing in the ICS update
Music player is still same like 2.3.4 android version. I was expecting the custom equalizer as like Arc S . but it is not there in Arc ICS update
Google says recently opened apps will be displayed in the home screen in ICS. But its missing in the my ICS update.
Google says live and transformation effects are there in ICS but I am not able to see those things in my Xperia Arc after ICS update.
Kindly let me know is there any solutions for the above issues..
    Thanks
    Manivannan

    1. You take screenshot by long pressing power and volume down button (booth at same time) in ICS, thats how google has made it.
    2. What beautiful lockscreen are you talking about? Sony has kept the lockscreen same because thats the lock screen many users are used to.
    3. Yes music player is same. I have an Arc S, the music player is same. The music player with equalizer is in Xperia S not in Arc S.
    4. Google never said any such things. You can see the recently opened apps by LONG PRESSING THE HOME BUTTON and can close them by Swiping it off the screen.
    5. Once again Google didnt say any such thing. If you want to change transision effects and stuff use Apex Launcher instead of Sony's launcher. You can get Apex launcher for free from Play Store.
Hope i helped. If you have any question ask i'll try to help.

  • Has anyone else had email notification issues after ICS update?

After the ICS update, I am not longer getting any email notifications.  I only get notifications after I open the stock mail app and it loads the emails.  I have unistalled/reinstalled numerous times without any change.  I have looked through the new ICS settings to see if switch got changed, without any luck.  Has anyone else run into this issue?  Thank you in advance

I think if you delete data and cache from the email app, then re-add your email address, it should help.

  • Open letter to Verizon regarding Tab 7.7 ICS Update

Note: This is a copy of an e-mail I submitted to Verizon Wireless regarding my Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE tablet, in order to ensure that Verizon receives the communication and to share the concern with the community which has substantially discussed the issue.  If this violates the content regulations of Verizon's forums, accept my apologies -- I have never been clear on the guidelines.
    Dear Verizon Wireless,
The primary purpose of writing is to notify you that I will be withholding 75% of my payment on the data plan for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, in light of Verizon's degradation of service on this device.  Upon purchasing the device in June, I was told that it would be receiving the Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS) system update.  By that point, ICS had been released from Google for nearly eight months.  In August, Verizon began updating its branded LTE tablets in earnest, but it was not until early October that the ICS update for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE was formally announced.  After a failed update push, Verizon has been silent on any plans for the past two months.  Its response to a discussion on this topic in the Verizon Online Community was to simply remove comments and shut down the discussion without answering any of the community questions.
Most apps in the Android Market now require ICS or later.  The Google Nexus 7 tablet, a comparable tablet to the 7.7, is now shipping with Android 4.2, a full two major revisions past the version Verizon has yet to deploy to the Tab 7.7.  Additionally, I personally have experienced increasing instability with the tablet, with the network failing and requiring a manual restart multiple times a week.
At whatever time Verizon successfully updates my device to ICS, I will happily return to paying my bill in full.  Additionally, I am more than willing to discuss this with a Verizon agent to come to a better resolution.  However, given Verizon's current response of ignoring the problem and providing no explanation, and continuing to offer a degraded service below that which was promised upon purchase, I must take this step in an attempt to protect my interests.
Again, I would much prefer an amicable solution to this situation.  Please feel free to call me on my Verizon phone number to discuss this.

In regards to this, I'm going to post excerpts of a post I placed in another thread with additional research about update timelines, Verizon's extremely loose interpretation of the word "soon", and the despicable service provided to owners of this tablet, as it relates to the specifics of this thread's topic. I am also including significant additional information relating my attempts to acquire additional information.
I purchased the Galaxy 7.7 in April this year. Like most (if not all) others, I bought it with the promise of an update to ICS soon. At this time, eight months later, I, like the vast majority of owners, am still on 3.2 (Honeycomb). Honeycomb does not support many of the apps I use, and more developers drop support for it every day, as its device presence percentage drops close to that of Cupcake and Donut (Android 1.5 and 1.6) and has already sunk below Eclair (Android 2.1), according tohttp://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html (This is a direct link to Google's own site, where they publish such information; last sample conducted over 14 days ending Nov 1, 2012).
...My local Verizon corporate store is selling the tablet with ICS pre-loaded. This means the software not only exists, but has been successfully deployed to retail units.
...The original Droid only took four months to get the 2.1 update, and the 2.2 update followed five months later in August of 2009. Keep in mind, these updates were being developed between these pushes, with 2.2 only being announced by Google in May of '09. That is 3 months from announcement to deployment. ...
Our Galaxy Tab 7.7's have now waited 13 months since the release of 4.0 by Google and still are not up to date. I'll permit Verizon the few months that they did not have the tablet, but this reduces the delay to "only" 9 months, two to three times longer than it took for other devices to be upgraded. Oh, and we're still waiting on the update. It might be suggested I'm being unfair at this point by comparing a dual-core highly advanced tablet with a much older, single-core phone that came out while Verizon had far fewer smartphones to maintain, so I'm also going to compare it to the Motorola XOOM, a contemporary device with similar hardware and software at release.
The Motorola XOOM was released February of 2011 as an incomplete project, again with the word "Soon" attached to those missing features. It took 6 months (August) to receive the SD card update. Similar to the original Droid, though, the update was only made available from Google in June, meaning it only took two months for Verizon to deploy the upgrade once it was released by Google. The LTE upgrade came out just a month later in September, seven months after the launch of the tablet. This delay could, theoretically, be pinned on Motorola, but my suspicion is that it originates with Verizon. Android 4.0 took seven months from the date it was published by Google (November 2011) to be released to Verizon XOOM owners (June 2012).
Galaxy Tab 7.7 early adopters have now waited an extraordinary nine months since their tablet was launched for their "Soon" to be fulfilled, and there's no end to the wait in sight as Verizon actively avoids communicating with their customers on the matter.
Explanations can do quite a bit to quell customer anger, as can simply finishing the update and publishing it.  We've received neither, and the existence of the updated software on new units being sold adds rather grievous insult to dysfunctional software that has become an injury to those who rely on this equipment to function.  I feel this is paramount to telling us that we, as existing customers, simply do not matter.
I have two further pieces of information to add that were not in my original post.  Today I contacted both Samsung and Verizon Wireless about this matter, directly.  The Samsung rep was, unfortunately, either incompetent or completely uninformed.  Nice, polite, but unable to provide any relevant information due to either Samsung's rules or training, or lack of personal knowledge.  The Verizon rep was far, far worse.  I'm a very polite person when speaking (I'm in sales, I have to be, even to people who are being rude), and I didn't even get a third of the way into describing the issue before I was being interrupted by this defensive, crass individual.  When I finally managed to get her to listen to my problem, her response after a minute of typing on her computer was that it was "currently available" and "[she] has no way to push it to my device" and "[I] have to wait for the network to push it".  I very calmly explained to her that the documentation she was looking at was from October (she acknowledged spotting this on the documentation once I pointed it out), that the update never came through and was pulled due to issues, and that I knew both methods of forcing the tablet to check for updates.  She then claimed that a coworker had handed her a Tab 7.7 running 3.2 and that it was the "current version" and that Verizon had never offered an upgrade to 4.0, in direct opposition to her earlier statements and my own eyes.  This...farce went on for nearly twenty minutes before I ended the call.
It was the most insulting, rude customer service I have received in years.  I felt like I was being talked to like one would address an errant child, not a paying customer.  The last time I was treated this way by a cellular carrier, I left them, switching from Sprint to Verizon.  Unfortunately, I am stuck on Verizon at this point due to unlimited data and hotspot on my personal line, and extraordinarily heavy personal usage, but I have no such motivation to have a 3G/4G tablet through them.  I prefer it due to battery concerns, but an extended battery and larger phone are worth the cost of never having to deal with Verizon's spectacularly awful treatment of their tablet customers ever again.
Even though they're keeping my account, it's shrinking by two tablet lines.

  • 27 inch thunderbolt display blacks out after Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2

Bought 2 new 27 inch TB displays for two different machines and after a couple of days the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 appears on my Mac Pro with one of the displays installed. So I install the firmware update.  Now my display blacks out periodically and I keep getting Graphic Display Errors with a request to sent the errors to Apple. Running a 32 GB Mac Pro (late 2013 circular style) I have three monitors connected (two 20 inch cinema displays and the new 27 inch display). This machine is supposed to be able to handle three 4k monitors or 6 standard TB displays.  I've seen the posts about the blacking out with this monitor but I didn't have any problems before the firmware update and now I've got them pretty regularly.  I had the blacking out problem on an earlier monitor and took one of the monitors back and Apple gave me another one and this is the replacement.  Same problem, but this one only started after the update. I'm hoping someone from Apple reads these messages and can let me know what's up.
BTW, I also have an older 27 inch Apple monitor that ran perfectly on this machine so I'm disappointed that I spent all this money and now get the blacking out issue.
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    Processor 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
    Memory 32 BG
Graphics AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

I have my Thunderbolt display connected to my MacBook Pro and have been experiencing the same issue, getting worse over time.  The folks at my local Apple store did not know what to do about it.  So, I looked around and tried different thing.
The one thing that seems to be working is to System Preferences > Build-in Display > uncheck “Automatically adjust brightness.”
    I hope this helps.

  • Problems with My Gallery since ICS update.

Prior to the ICS update, My Gallery would display not only my pictures taken with the camera but also others on my SD card and in the internal phone storage picture folders.  Since ICS it only shows from the camera folder and even that seems often out of sync and slow to update.  Is this an issue or is it something I'm missing on the process?

Yup it kind of comes with the Territory i had a Droid X and a HTC incredible and on my X i done 6 factory resets and on my Inc. i did about the Same and i got so good at it that when i Visited the Local store and somebody had an issue the Reps sent the Customer over to Me.. But i understand when a device isn't running as it should it gets very frustrating especially the money that is spent on it.. Just to pass on to Ya i use a App called System Panel App it's in the Play Store and is Free but the Paid Version is only 2.99 and it shows Quite a bit of what your device is Doing and the Temps it is Running i'v had the App on my Devices since Wildman pointed it out to me two years ago. And i check out what my phones are doing all the time with app. Give it Try..

  • After ICS update, camera forces close

After the latest ICS update, (which I love the look of it) but I've been having a couple of frustrating issues. My camera on my Motorola Razr forces close. It says it had an unexpected error and needs to close. When you finally get it to work, when you take a picture, it freezes and the image will not open. Some of my pictures wont load now, even ones that I just downloaded.  Also some of my music wont play, the pictures are no longer accurate, and it sometimes forces close as well. Also the battery life sucks now. Before I just had to charge it in the afternoon before I leave the office and it would then last until early in the morning, but now I take it off the charger when I leave work and with very little use, a couple of hours later and its almost completely dead. I never had an issue with it just shutting off either and now it will just randomly freeze and shut off. I hope there is going to be another update to correct these issues!

Sorockerchic, I’m glad to hear you are liking the look of the ICS update. Now let’s get this issue with the camera resolved so you can get back to taking your pictures.
You mentioned that the issue with the camera, battery life, and freezing started after the ICS update. You may have some apps that are not compatible with the update and causing these issues. I recommend you perform a hard reset http://bit.ly/tQ0nkT to help resolve these issues. This is recommended especially after such a big software update.
Please post back if you continue to experience any of these issues after performing the hard reset. I’ll be more than happy to further troubleshoot.

I had a lot of issues after the ICS update.  After a couple of days I finally removed the battery for 1/2 an hour when I replaced it seems to have taken care of all but one issue.  When talking on the phone the conversations from the other end breaks up constantly. Has anyone had the same problem?

I've heard of people having various problems, but haven't heard that one.
