Thunderbolt Issues

After reading all the forums and complaints about the HTC Thunderbolt, I feel very fortunate.  I've had my phone about a month and haven't had any major issues.  I love the Thunderbolt and am glad the Verizon representative sold it to me instead of the iPhone.
Granted I don't use a lot of apps but the ones that I do use work well.  It's a piece of technology; be smarter than it.
My only complaint is that I miss the thunderclouds that used to appear whenever the smart phone is either turned on or restarted.  Can we get them back with the next software update?

same with my dx, no issues after gb update. it's nice when things work right.

    Go to Geekbench
    http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
and check out the relative values for the system you're currently using versus the one you're going to buy. My guess is a fullly spec'd MBP Retina will do the job, but you're undoubtedly better qualified than anyone on here to tell what kind of a machine you need.

  • MAYBE an answer to Thunderbolt issues with 4G ?

I posted this in another thread, but it might be interesting in it's own thread:
It IS a problem, but NOT every Thunderbolt has this issue.    Mine did.   It was 100% stock, not rooted or anything.   After the update, it started rebooting on its own.   I tried the remove battery trick, didn't help.   Removed new applications since the update, didn't help.    Did the factory data reset....and it's been perfect since relative to reboots.
I do still get the phone showing 4G service but no data connect, and no fall back to 3G until I get out of the 4G area.    I may have found a fix for that too...  Hasn't been long enought to really test this out...but using the suggested ##778  (EPST edit mode) and I set the Preferred Mode to CDMA HDR and the Preferred Mode (9k) to HDR LTE mode.    Prefered had been at CDMA and preferred 9K had been at LTE only.
For the rest of yesterday....that seem to help A LOT.    But once I left work, I'm out of the 4G area, so hard to tell if it really helped or if it was just a quirk.    3G is fine, as it always has been.
As usual, your mileage may vary, don't forget to COMMIT the modfications and always...ALWAYS write down what the original settings are before you change anything!

Holy cow. This is flippin' scary. I'm at work and just made the changes you suggested. This thing has a stable 2 bars of 4G inside the building in my office. It seems to be real too, because web pages load quickly and email works every time. As a point of comparison, just 10 minutes ago before the config change, I was getting the normal random 3G/1X shuffles and complete dropouts, and never got a 4G connection in here. I will have to keep an eye on this to see if it holds, but this is the only thing the has made any sort of difference so far. Fingers crossed!
BTW, how did you know about this?
I didn't "know" about it, just made sense to me to try it.
It may have been the reboot of the phone that made the difference.   I do know if you've got crummy connections, rebooting does seem to help.    But hopefully, this change makes things a bit better.
So far, it is 'better' but not "good' with my phone, but I'm in a fringe area for 4G.
Oh yea...the bars you see for reception are for phone, not data (at least that's my understanding), especially for 4G since it uses a totally different radio in the phone for 4G reception.

  • VGA to thunderbolt issues

Hello, I have a mid 2011 iMac i5. I have an older dell monitor that I am trying to add as a second display. When I hooked up the monitor I used the VGA to divi adapter, then divi to thunderbolt. I don't have the shorter VGA to thunderbolt adapter or else I would use it. The hookup doesn't work. Is there a certain setup I need to do to the computer? The iMac doesn't seem to recognize the other monitor, or send the second monitor any info to display. The adapter is a thunderbolt adapter, not the mini display Thanks!

I understand I COULD go out and buy other adapters. I am simply using what I have with me....the question was will this work. It's not like I went to the stores trying to have a long chain of adapters.
If you want it to work then you need to go  out and buy the adapter I suggested. Trying to complicate the issue by using what you have on hand is a waste of time and effort, however if you don't want to follow my suggestion I'm OK with that but I think you will eventually find out my advice is the correct answer.

  • Firewire thunderbolt issues

So I'm trying to connect a PreSonus StudioLive AI to a 27 inch late 2013 iMac running 10.9.5.  There have been people on the forums at PreSonus that say it that there is an issue with Mavericks.  I've also seen a press release from PreSonus saying that they worked with the Firewire to Thunderbolt converters.  The problem is that the system sees the converter but does not see the board.  I have installed the recommended drivers and such.
The weird part is that it actually connects for a moment and I can use the software, but in less than 5 minutes, it will freeze and crash.
I can upload the saved system profile if necessary (just couldn't find an upload link/button).
Thanks for any and all assistance, this is driving me CRAZY!!!!!
    Tyler

We would have no idea, my suggestion is to contact the developers of the PreSonus StudioLive and see if they support the device in
    OS X Mavericks
    via FW to Thunderbolt cable.
    Good luck.

  • Just got iMac 21.5 can't get image on Apple Cinema HD display - is it thunderbolt issue?

I just got my new iMac 21.5" desktop and tried to connect my 21" Apple cinema HD display. I have power to the external display but no image - screen blank. I'm wondering if it is a cable issue even though the adapter I used to connect this monitor to my MacBook Pro fit the thunderbolt port - is this a port or adapter issue?

In continuing my research on this topic, I found this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5198
Short version, the 23" Cinema HD is among one of several older "vintage" Apple displays that are no longer supported under Mavericks. No brightness control, and it's likely to not work reliably at all. I can't say why I was able to use it for as long as I did with no problems. I take all this to mean that the display itself works fine, but not with my new MBP Retina.
Though a tempting excuse to spend another grand on a 27" Apple Thunderbolt display, I opted for a $250 HDMI monitor from Fry's instead.

  • HDMI - LACIE 5big THUNDERBOLT issues

I own the latest 2012 mac mini server fully loaded.
I have been using it also as my media centre and watch HD movies via the hdmi output.
I recently purchased a Lacie 5Big thunderbolt drive and when i plug it in it works fine for a while then disconnects and also the screen hdmi goes blank.
Anyone have the same setup or issues? Any sudgestions for a fix?
Ive tried using the thunderbolt daisy chained to the screen through the Lacie but that resulted in the same problem, picture then disconnection then no picture.
    Cheers
    Pete

I Reformatted the Drive to Striped instead of mirrored as shipped and it has not dropped of since....
But my original problem still exists with it thinking it's a monitor through the thunderbolt cable...
And my walkaround is to pull out the HDMI cable and re plug it in and the TV recieves the picture again.
This happens every couple of days.....
Still playing replaced the cable 3 times (have spares when expanding now) but there is no "data only" thunderbolt cable available to buy......
    Maybe Apple can look further.....

  • Firewire to Thunderbolt Issues with External HD

I purchased the Iomega eGo BlackBelt portable HD (http://www.amazon.com/Iomega-BlackBelt-FireWire-Portable-35115/dp/B0041EM9XM/ref =pd_sxp_f_pt) a few years ago and have backed up my MacBook Pro using time machine. The cable is a firewire 800 with theses connections (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=12-200-730&Tpk=N82E16812200730). The rounded side goes into the MacBook Pro. I am trying to get it to connect to my new MacBook Air with Thunderbolt. The Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt addapter does not fit the one end of the cable. So I purchased the Belkin Firewire 9-9 Pin Cable (http://www.belkin.com/us/F3N418-APL-Belkin/p/P-F3N418-APL;jsessionid=89030857685 109325329E6412E872E81) to use instead of the one that came with the HD. However, there is no power going to the HD. I've tried the split USB also with no luck. It powers with the original cable on the Pro, but not the Belkin cable and Apple adapter on the Air. Any suggestions?

You can go on about your mistrust of eSata to Firewire bridges, etc., but my experience
.......internal configuration of the Iomega drive
    What changed?
    Erratic performance
    1. Iomega doesnt make HD, there are only 4 HD (conventional) mfg. on earth current, Hitachi, Toshiba, WD, and Seagate.    The HD in the older Iomega is a Samsung not made anymore.
    2. Youre presuming its "my mistrust of SATA bridge hardware" or a subjective limited conclusion......its not.
Its an empirical fact that SATA bridge hardware in USB to SATA HD or (little used, little owned) Firewire to SATA HD is "the most UNTRUSTWORTHY storage failure point that exists"
    3. Erratic performance........thats why some of us call it "haunted hard drive" syndrome.  The HD acts illogical, power and issues with appearing in disk utility.......logical diagnosis becomes 'hard' because the SATA interface has often no straightforward ABC.... failing profile.....
I answer no less than about 40 questions a month here that are related to failing or failed SATA bridge cards.
Ive got no less than a dozen dead ones laying around the house.
In fact in one day (no joke) I had 2 SATA bridge cards die on me. Confirmed that it was the bridge cards.
This hardware USED to be permanently attached to USB hard drives, but the mfg. realized this part failed SO much SO often they made it a detachable part.
    SeattleLonginTheTooth
What might we infer from this?
Possibly the Thunderbolt adapter alone isn't supplying adequate or stable power,
"my experience" is a lot more extensive with external HD media.
Yes, and that also indicates SATA card issue.......which manifests in 2 ways most often, recognition issues and power drop "lost HD" issues.
the SATA bridge card as found inside USB HD devices which has an extremely high failure rate.
Inside a USB hard drive, containing the HD and SATA card
Countless 1000s of good external hard drives are thrown away each year because the owner thought the HD was bad when it fact it was the SATA bridge card which had failed. This card is removed in a matter of mere second once an external USB HD is cracked open from its plastic casing to reveal the bare HD and the attached SATA card which attaches between the HD and the USB cable.

  • MacBook Pro 8,2 (Late 2011), Mountain Lion thunderbolt issue

    Hi!
Since my upgrade to OS X 10.8.1 (Mountain Lion) yesterday the ports on the back o my 27 " thunderbolt display no longer seems to function?
I can hook up my keyboard directly to my MacBook Pro (Late 2011, 8,2) and it works just fine, and it was working from the thunderbolt display until my update.
So, I'm assuming that this is a problem with Mountain Lion. Is there anything that I can do?
    Thanks!

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro stuck at spinning wheel of death after a Thunderbolt issue, HD erasing and fresh Lion install from Recovery HD. Please help me!!!

So, I think the title says it all, but to give you a little more info:
I connected my late 2011 MacBook Pro to my TV using a Thunderbolt HDMI adapter, and closed the lid. When I opened it, it wouldn't show the login screen, so I restarted using power button. Got stuck at the Apple logo with the spinning wheel. So I booted the Recovery HD and found out it was a HD problem, so I (reluctantly) erased the HD and installed Lion from scratch. When it rebooted (after DOWNLOADING the Lion components) I got some terminal commands (sorry for not being more specific, still a noob when it comes to Mac) and then the screen faded and a message appeared saying I needed to reboot the computer. So I did. 3 effing times. Then I got stuck AGAIN at the spinning wheel, and I'm currently with that on my screen. I'm trying the forums before calling Apple (my computer's still within the 90 days of warranty) because it's not yet 9 A.M. where I live

can you go back to recovery mode then open disk utility.
in disk utility, higlight the disk, the one saying the brand and size then click on repair disk under first aid tab
if it repairs fine, that's okay
if repair was not successful, go to partition and change current to 1 partition then apply
    install lion again
    hope this helps

  • Thunderbolt issue vga dvi

On the new mac mini with Thunderbolt, problems with monitors like macbook.
Thunderbolt - Minidisplay to VGA - screen not activate, diferent screens.
HDMI > DVI - Eizo screen S2202W, switch from vga to dvi, screen 3 sec snow before right image.
VGA and DVI screen to mac mini, VGA screen as master.
At boot, screen DVI as startup screen, VGA black
after boot both screen black and then image on both screens.
    After disconnect vga screen
Both screen setup in one screen.
Are there users with the same problems.

There do seem to be a lot of people having problems  (possibly everyone trying to use a VGA monitor) on the new Mac mini.
If you can you should use DVI or HDMI, however if you have to use VGA it seems that turning the Mac on waiting for it to finish booting and only then connecting the Mini Displayport to VGA adaptor works.

  • Thunderbolt issue

    Hello,
Four weeks ago, my Thunderbolt cable was working fine, connecting the retina iMac to a non-retina iMac (same model). It ran for a whole week on Yosemite. After coming back from four weeks of travel, for some reason the linking of displays no longer works- I plugged the cable in, unplugged, shut down, and restarted. However, it still isn't working.
Please help- I need this for my job.
    Thanks

Ok so what I am doing is that I am using a thunderbolt cable to connect my iMac to my 5k retina imac as a shared display, i.e. my 5k retina imac retains the dock and I can drag stuff from one screen to the other so it's not total complete mirroring but it's not like one huge wraparound screen either.

  • Please make sure you'r telling HTC about your Thunderbolt issues.

I have been emailing and talking to HTC since I have been noticing things that could be better with my T-Bolt. I must say they have a very good staff and reply quickly. Some of their tips have helped me and the issues they know they have they will assure you fixes are coming. The only way for issues to get fixed is if the manufacturer knows there are issues so please also foward your concerns to them and post results here for all to read.

I totally agree, they have been great.  Verizon transferred me over to them when it was determined to be an HTC issue.  The guy I spoke to on the phone was great and was able to replicate my problem on his phone.  It got escalated and I received calls 3 days in a row when I was on vacation from an engineer following up on the issue.  They were able to replicate the problem on other HTC phones and think there's a problem in their Sense software that will be addressed in the next update.
    Awesome!

  • G-Safe Firewire to Thunderbolt issues

I just got a 15" Mac Book Pro Retina. I also have a G-Safe that I have been using for a back-up that was working fine with my previous Mac Book Pro. I got the Apple Thunderbol to Firewire 800 adapter, but when I connect the MB to the G-Safe, the computer doesn't recognize the drive.
I suppose my adapter could be defective. Is there anything else that can be causing this problem?

  • Thunderbolt display problems using MBP with lid closed

I am experiencing a very reproducible problem since purchasing aThunderbolt display to use with a recent (1 month old) Macbook Pro 13"2.7GHz i7.
I use my MBP with lid closed with myThunderbolt display. If Ithen allow the MBP to sleep and power down, on restarting it the WiFi hasstopped working- the menu bar says I am connected by WiFi but Safari will notconnect to the internet and Time Machine cannot connect to the Airport/TimeCapsule to backup. Nothing I do will fix it (shutting down all programs, turingWiFi off then on) and so I have to shutdown/reboot BUT THEN the MBP freezesduring shutdown (waiting 15, 20, 30 minutes!) and I have to hold down the powerbutton (hard reboot). Once I reboot everything works fine UNTIL I take a breakand the computer goes to sleep again.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the MBP lid open, but I needto test this a bit more to be sure...
On top of this the Bluetooth trackpad now keeps going on andoff; connected, not connected despite being near or the computer. Veryirritating at best, unusable at worst. This only started to be a major problem(every 10-15 minutes or so) when I started to use the Thunderbolt display.
These problems seems to be in some ways similar to anotherthread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16205098#16205098
("Major problemswith Thunderbolt display & MBAir")
I have applied the recent Thunderbolt Firmware update, and SMC& PRAM/NVRAM resets. Interestingly these seemed to work initially but thenafter a prolonged power-down period the problem has recurred. Back to square 1.
    Any ideas out there?

Just to be clear, have you installed everything that you find on this page?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4644
I just talked to Apple Care about Thunderbolt issues in general and even though I already had the Thunderbolt Software Update installed, he had me reinstall it.  If you go to this page:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16889000#16889000
you can read in detail about the issues I was having which have for the most part been remedied (for now at least!)
The Thunderbolt cable definitely transfers heat for some reason even when there isn't a high CPU utilization.  The process 'kernel_task' seems to be where the API for thunderbolt is running.  But for some reason, the behavior of CPU Utilization to Fan Speed is amplified when connected to the TBD.
    Apple Care is researching it.
