Thunderbolt, LCD TV, and Input / Display lag

I had a Mac Mini and a large, 55 inch Vizio LCD TV I use for periodic browsing and video watching when I can't use my Apple TV. However, input lag was a problem as the mouse and other inputs were always a fraction of a second off, even with all the filters and processing on the TV turned off.
I recently got the new Macbook Pro 13" since the Thunderbolt port boasts phenomenal output and input speed. Seems to have eliminated the problem. I don't sense the slightest amount of input lag while using my TV. Just in case anyone had any worries, in my case the Macbook Pro connects very effortlessly and input lag is not an issue.
Just thought I'd throw this out as everyone seems to want the new Macbook Pro to have a 3840 pixel resolution and a built in massage chair or something.

Thanks for posting your positive feedback on Thunderbolt. Some people have been concerned on connection issues. It helps to hear the success stories too.

  • How to use thunderbolt port with disks and DVI-display

    Hello,
today I use a 15" MacBookPro and have attached 1TB LaCie with FW800  (for time machine) and DVI-Display using Mini-port.
Need to add more external disk space and look for Lacie 2 TB with thunderbolt connection (for storing mass of pictures in Raid1 version)
Is it possible to connect the new disk, the other disk with an Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter and the DVI-Display to one thunderbolt port?
What are the options I have, to get all three to work at the same time?

No, or at least not without additional hardware. You have too many end-points for one Thunderbolt chain.
You also have the problem that the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter is not yet for sale.
If the new disk you get has two Thunderbolt ports (which not all do), you could daisy-chain the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter behind it, but that adapter has to be at the end of the chain. The Mini-port->DVI adapter likewise needs to be at the end of a chain.
So, you can probably get all three connected at one time by connecting the "1TB LaCie with FW800  (for time machine)" to your FW800 port, while connecting the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter (when available) to the second port of the new disk. I say "probably" because nobody has the TB-FW adapter yet to try it.
As for doing it on one Thunderbolt port with additional hardware, you might look into third-party docking stations being released in the next few months. The announced prices are in the low-to-middle hundreds. I won't mention brand names, as this is an Apple forum, but they aren't too hard to find by web search.
The highest-priced solution would be the Apple Thunderbolt Display, which gives you a FW800 port for your 1TB drive, a pass-thru Thunderbolt port for your new disk, and of course a 2560x1440 display (plus ethernet and usb2 ports you may not need). It's available now, in the uppermost hundreds. There are some refurbs in the online Apple Store at the moment at 15% off.

  • How do I connect a new Thunderbolt MBP to and old 23" HD Cinema Display ADC port

A question Im sure many have asked but I cant find a straight forward answer.
I simply will be buying a new thunderbolt MBP 15 and NEED to connect it an old 23" Apple Cinema Display that uses the old ADC connector.
Can I do it and if so how? I realise theres a potential under powering issue?
    Thanks

    Hello Sigh
I am sure there is no way to get your ADC connector display to function with your new Mac Book Pro.
I tried everying I could and gave up and purchased a 24" Apple refurbbished Cinema Display for $599 + tax on 4/27/2011. The Apple part number is FBXXXXL/A, Model A1287.
Gave my  year 2002 ADC 22" display to a friend.

Got my new MBP 2011 today. Hooked it up to my 23" Apple Cinema Display fine, using the Apple DVI to ADC converter > Mini Display port adaptors. I could then mirror display, but only at 1440 x 900 resolution.
My dream is to have it like my old laptop--I mostly leave it shut, and main display is on the Cinema Display. So far, if I close the laptop lid on my new MBP, display shuts off. Also, can't get it to bump up the resolution to 1920.
    Sigh.

  • Thunderbolt for ethernet and display at same time

i need to use my thunderbolt port for both ethernet and extended display.  can i split the thunderbolt?

    Hello berstler
One way you can do that is with the Apple Thunderbolt Display as it has a built in Ethernet port. You may want to look at a Thunderbolt Express Dock from Belkin to see if that would be a potential solution.

  • [Title] (fixed) Firefox not displaying buttons, bubbles, checkboxes, and input lines

So this isn't a question but I think it's very helpful, as I've had this problem ever since update 10 or so, even with resetting my Firefox profile so here's the fix
k so I use Stardock software's Windowsblinds on my x64 Win 7 laptop. I run Firefox with the "Awesomebar" disabled, I like my menus. Anyhow for the longest time I've had a problem where Firefox stops displaying my buttons, bubbles, checkboxes, and input lines along with some borders on a few pages, so today I finally figured out which options to check to make things work and look how it's supposed to
maybe your team could code some sort of detection for windowblinds and enable these options/settings automaticly
settings in about:config that I manually changed:
    layersacceleration.draw.fps true
    plugin.allow.asyncdrawing true
    gfx.direct2d.disabled false
Not sure if all 3 are necessary or not but I fliped the 3 to the stated variables and Vwala I can see all my buttons, bubbles, checkboxes, and input lines
also add Windowblinds to the tags for future users ---->

@ cor-el I tried it in the options menu quite a few times with seems that it just wasn't writing to the config file even though it said it was enabled/disabled. so I went straight to the config file and changed it manually but thank you for the input anyhow

  • Display Report Level Filter value and Input Controls Value

    Hi,
Please let me know how to display Report Level Filter value and Input COntrol values in the report.
I have 2 tabs in the WebI Report. The first tab has the summary details about the other tabs like reprot desc, prompt values, reprot filter values, etc.
In the 2nd tab I have the actual report which has input controls defined, prompt values and global level report filters.
Can anyone please tell me how to display the Report level filter values and the Input Control values in the first tab report.
For ex: Tab 2 has a Report level filter: Region = NA
I need to display in Tab 1 in as Region: NA
I used the function ReportFilterSummary but that is giving me other details, I want only the object name and the value.
Also how to dispaly the Input Control values in the tab 1.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for this issue.
    Thanks

    did you try
    =ReportFilter([Year])
if you are making report filter over the year, it will return the value of the filter
by the way, the filter should be applied over all the report not to a specific block to be able to get the correct value
the Input control also considered as report filter, only if you're applying them on the level of the report, if you applying an input contron over a specific block or chart, you will not get the values for ReportFilter
    good luck

  • L2321 versus L2230 LCD Monitor - video input and preset modes differences

I am trying to decide between the ThinkVision L2321  and L2230 LCD monitors, and although the obvious difference is the size  (ie. 23 in versus 21.5 in), the only thing I have a question about is the difference between their Preset Modes Text and the Video Inputs description which I found on the Lenovo Website when I do a comparison of the two.

If someone can help clarify this so that I can understand which is the better monitor and the reason for it, I would be very appreciative,  or  perhaps they are much the same and it is the difference in the size which makes them appear to have a difference.

  • Can I use a thunderbolt DAS with 3 projectors and 1 display?

Hi, I want to know if is possible to use a Thunderbolt DAS (Promise Pegasus), with 3 HDMI projectors and 1 HDMI display (with active adapters), and have good performance with the DAS.
    Thank you

In the Mac Pro late 2013, there are three ThunderBolt busses, each of which has two connectors. There is plenty of bandwidth to do the I/O you are talking about. As long as resolutions are 1080p or less, that fits nicely in HALF of a ThunderBolt-2 Bus, and another device can use the other half.
The Pegaus is limited by the speed of the drives and how many are actually active at once. Typical rotating drives can source data off the platters in the neighborhood of 125MBytes/sec, or about 1,000M bits/sec. Half a ThunderBolt-2 is ten times that.
You have specified too many HDMI displays, (which are considered "legacy" displays) for easy, cheap hookup. You will need mostly ACTIVE adapters, such as StarTech ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, about US$40 each.

  • Connecting my Mac Mini DVI video output to Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA Input

I tried connecting my mac mini to the Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA input but it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz. I did that but it still would not display the video. I tried my PC laptop and that worked fine with different resolutions. So I know that there is nothing wrong with the TV. Did anyone experience this same problem?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Karl

I'm confused about your comment "it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz." I presume the way this was communicated was through a dialog box, correct? But if you could see a dialog box, that means you had a working screen at one point, correct? Why don't you just run at that resolution?

  • Macbook pro thunderbolt 2011 won't detect display

I am working on a Macbook Pro, October, 2011 model with a thunderbolt port.  I have now gone through two thunderbolt to HDMI cables and neither was able to detect my display, which is a Sony Bravia.  Should I throw in the towel and buy a $50 (rip-off) cable from Apple, or could it possibly be that my port is faulty?  Anyone with a similiar problem?

No, don't buy expensive cables.  Do you have a url (link) to the cable you are using?
On what basis do you think that your computer doesn't detect your TV?
If you opened Displays system preferences, click Detect Displays.  Is there an Arrangement tab and an does it show two monitors?  If not, then there is indeed a physical problem Make sure the cable is fully seated in the HDMI on the TV and the TB socket on the computer and also make sure your TV is set to take input from the HDMI input port you connected the cable to.
If the Arrangement tab is there and shows two screens click Gather Windows.  This should bring the Displays preference window for the TV on to your main screen.  Then set the resolution (probably 720p, 1080i, or 1080p) and refresh rate (probably 60Hz).  At this point you should see a picture on your TV.
You may have to play the underscan/overscan settings on your TV and the displays prefs for the TV if the picture is too small or larger for the TV screen.  If Sony's haven't changed they may call it "full pixel".

  • Vario Laptop-Wndows 8.1 Monitor Flickers and Input is intermittent

My Sony Vario Laptop running on Windows 8.1 occasionally starts flickering and when I try and input data it only accepts occasionally. How do I troubleshoot this problem?

Does it flicker only within Windows or BIOS also?
Attach Sony Vaio Laptop to an external monitor and check if it does flicker there. If it doesn't it should be caused by the LCD panel it self. If that be the case
then you have to contact the authorised technician to get things done. May be a replacement will resolve the issue.
    Otherwise:
Update the display card driver to the latest version
You may need to run the display troubleshooting tool by going to
    Start -> Control Panel -> Troubleshooting ->
Appearance and Personalization -> Display Quality
You can also go for a System Restore. Select any restore point when there was no such issue.

  • Thunderbolt daisy chain problem with display

    Hi to everybody,
being a proud new user of a thunderbolt audio interface Apollo Quad since a couple of days i am struggling to set it up without trouble for my secondary display in my Thunderbolt daisy chain...
    My setup and connections
MBP Late 2011 17" 16GB RAM running Mavericks and UAD SW 7.11, 1 Thunderbolt port
Promise Pegasus R4 Thunderbolt RAID drive
    Apple TB display
Second 26" display connected via DVI/Mini display port adapter
Erverything worked like a charm prior to inserting the TB audio interface with a Thunderbolt 2 Card into the TB daisy chain. Order of TB connections: MPB -> Apple TB display -> TB Audio interface -> Ext. display via DVI to TB connector.
Since putting the audio interface (Apollo) in the TB chain Apollo itself, TB display and Pegasus RAID run fine - but the last display behind Apollo only shows "invalid mode" blinking on the display. I tried changing the order of the devices, no change.
Has anyone an idea what to do?? - I have not exceeded the max number of TB devices (6) allowed to run in sequence. I read here in the forum that an ext display behind Apollo should work and has proven to do so. It has the new option card for TB2 inserted... Does the left/right port matter, which is connected to the display?
Thanks in advance for any help to get that sorted out!! The last option would be to go remove the TB card and run the Apollo per firewire as I need the second screen.. not the most convincing solution for me though.
    Regards
    Uli

    Hi Ilya,
I am curious why it only happens for one particular Process Chain. Normally displaying a log has nothing to do with the client settings of SCC4 and/or system settings of SE06. My only guess is that it might be created in this system directly and that the system wants to modify anything here.
I am quite sure that the system is "closed" and it's not a Development system, e.g. a Production System. Please confirm.
Anyway, I have one suggestion and that is to check the Object Changeability in the Transport Connection. Go to t/code RSA1, choose the Transport Connection view and click on the push button Object Changeability.
Here you can see a list of Object Types like RSPT (Process Chain Starter), RSPV (Process Variants), PSPC (Process Chain). If it is set to "Not Changeable", I suggest to change that in e.g. "Everything Changeable".
Please try that with the above mentioned Object Types for Process Chain related Object Types and see if you are able to display the log w/o the pop-up.
You can also refer to SAP Note 337950 - Queries (including objects) cannot be edited for more information.
    Thanks,
    Sander

  • Using LCD Tv as main display

I am running my macbook in lid closed mode and have it connected to a 22" LCD tv via a VGA cable, I am using the maximum resolution (1680x1050) and the display is very clear and sharp but is offset to the left. There is a 1" black strip down the right hand side of the display and the far left side is not visible. I have used the horizontal positioning setting on the tv but it does not let me move the image enough. I was wondering if there is anyway to get around this so that my screen is central on the tv ?
    Thanks

Inverting the polarity of horizontal sync might work, but that requires a program like SwtichResX.

  • What do I need to drive (4) 36" LCD's and put a Fullscreen movie on each?

So, here's what I want to do.......
My office wants to replace the TV's in the Lobby running DVD's that loop...Sound only from 1 TV....
I'm thinking it would be a lot better to not just get 4 36" LCD's and run the same crappy looping DVD's that are for 4:3 TV's
I'm suggesting (4) 36" LCD's Probably a Sony XBR or something we can pick up local. I don't know where I can get Monitors instead of TV's but that should be fine. We will have them mounted on swivel mounts, not flush against the wall. I'm thinking they will be about 12" apart.
I would need each TV to run a different fullscreen video, or (2) running looping Videos and (2) running picture screensaver or iPhoto Slideshow loops. Something along those lines.
    The 3-part question is:
Can I use a 2.66 quad intel, get a second Nvidia or Radeon Card and run (4) TV's connected via DVI off of it?
Can Quicktime Pro (or another piece of software) put a different fullscreen movie on each TV?
Can One of the TV's include Audio? Not all 4 because that would be horrible for the Secretary at the front....:-)
Any assistance or experiences you can offer would be appreciated!
I can get the video re-coded out of AVID to be widescreen instead of fullscreen, but it's not HD source, so I am not sure if the TV's will have 720p video pushed to them.
Oh, and if this would work, would I burn out the machine in a week of running this? It would sit in a cool Network Closet, not an open area.
    Thanks!

consider the 36" LCD-TV will support max resolution of 1920x1080 (assuming is 1080p).
MacPro with 2x decent graphic card like ATI HD 3870 is sufficient to handle the 4x LCD-TV. But not sure if Quicktime can play each of the video / clips as full screen video on each display. Also, only the primary ACTIVE video will produce sound, other will be silence...
    give VLC a shot.
