Thunderbolt monitor mail sounds

When I plug in my retina MBP to the 27" thunderbolt monitor, every mac mail sound since the last time it was plugged in plays in succession.  Sometimes this is 5 mins of ding (incoming) & whoosh (outgoing) mail sounds.  What a very peculiar bug.
Anyone else getting this?
I have read a few posts stating it was mountain lion bug that was fixed last month ( Aug 2012 ) however all of my devices are up to date and it is still happening.

David: Thanks for this info as I will try in future next time if needed.
I don't know if it began with new updates to quicktime or iTunes, or when Yasu Cleaner froze during cache cleaning, but after restarting, then had probs with Keychain access to mail not working along with sounds, then it got really messy! (It couldn't find keychains.login)
What I ended up doing and it now all works(sounds and keychains, etc) was:
-Thankfully I had backed up my keychain folder before all these problems, (all should do this if they haven't!) backup folder location:("~" is home folder)
(~/library/keychains folder)
-2nd went in same orig. area for keychains folder and deleted 2 files found in there ..one was some login and think other one said some microsoft certificates file
-3rd copied saved file from my BACKUPs folder("keychains folder") to original location
-4th restarted computer
-5th ran Disk Utility- repair permissions
Now: ALL SOUND BACK and ALL PASSWORDS in MAIL, and I didn't even have to re-enter them!

  • Headphones play new mail sound upon plugging in

Whenever I plug in or unplug my headphones, my computer plays the new mail sound repeatedly, presumably for each email I have recieved since last plugging/unplugging them. It also plays the sent mail sound if I happened to send any emails in that time period. This only started happening after installing Lion, and searching I have done has yielded no results. Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it?

I solved it at least for my situation.
When you plug in usb audio such as a monitor with speakers, or other speakers go to the sound settigns in system prefernces and select sound effects and then select internal speakers. The problem seems related to the sound effects going through external audio or USB audio.
Make sure internal or headphones is selected instead of usb while the usb audio device is plugged in. Unplug the device and then plug it back in verifying that the setting stays changed to internal speakers for usb audio devices and it should fix your problems.

  • Thunderbolt monitor volume is low

I don't know what is going on, but my volume is fine on my MacBook Pro, but suddenly the volume on my Thunderbolt Monitor is not very loud, not matter what I do.  I have verified in Sound that Output Volume is at Max for Diplay Audio.  I have been to Audio Midi Setup and the bottom two sliders are at Maximum.
    Who has a suggestion?

I just experienced this problem, and it was fixed by plugging in the usb cord from the display to the computer.

  • Daisy-Chain Thunderbolt Monitors

I have been having a lot of issues since purchasing two new thunderbolt displays. I mounted both displays on my office wall via VESA brackets. I was super happy with how they looked and how they were able to Daisy-Chain together making them the most beautiful full function docking station for my MacBook Pro. I hooked up my mac via the single thunderbolt cable and power cord from monitor 1 and turned on my Mac. As expected the two monitors came to life in dazzling fashion giving me 54in of usable space. My issues began after I disconnected my Mac to go to a meeting. When I returned and reconnected the power and thunderbolt cords and after the usual blinking of the monitors only the Mac and monitor number 1 worked. Monitor 2 (the one daisy-chained to number 1) would not turn on, 27in of blackness. I tried reconnecting, changing the order of the displays, rebooting, and even re-imaging; nothing worked. I Googled it and found a lot of issues that people were having with displays and thunderbolt drives but none offered a solution that worked. after a lot of research I was able to piece together what was happening and a fix that actually worked. The issue is the Thunderbolt ports and they way peripherals get assigned. So the first time I connected the monitors they worked great but when I went to a meeting and connected to a projector or went home and connected to my single thunderbolt monitor there the ports would get reconfigured to run the single monitor or projector. Macs use SMC (System Management Controller) to control many low level functions like lights, fans, power button, and ports. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Following the SMC reset fixes the port assignment issue and allows the Mac to recognize the daisy-chained monitor or drive. One additional tip is to plug in the power and thunderbolt cable before resetting the SMC. it is a simple keyboard procedure that is easy and works every time. I hoping a firmware update of SMC will make this fix obsolete but until then at least my $2500 display investment is paying off in a lot of beautiful useable space.

Please do not double post - it does not help and things can get very confusing, so I've asked the hosts to remove the duplicate.
    Good luck!

  • How can I get my e-mail sounds back?

Until about a week ago, I heard a sound when new mail arrived and a nice swish when mail went out. Now silence! I tried Sound in System Preferences -- but no help there. Please advise. Thanks!

You wrote that you "tried system preferences," but did you also check the mail application's own preferences?
With Mail open, click on the "Mail" menu in the upper left-hand corner, select "preferences," select the "general" tab and make sure that you've selected the "new mail sound" in the drop down menu for your "new mail sound" and have checked the box next to where it says "play sounds for other mail actions."
If all of the above check out, you should also re-check that the volume in System Preferences > Sound > Output is adjusted sufficiently high.

how can I connect two thunderbolt monitors to my macmini in windows 8 and bootcamp? Works fine in OSX

Did you try to hook up both monitors to the Belkin adaptor? Trying will determine if your monitor has a bad input port. See if the Belkin adaptor is the problem. I have never used that specific adaptor, but I have always had luck with the Dr. Bott's DVI for ADC adaptor. Best of luck.

  • Daisy Chain a second Monitor to Thunderbolt Monitor

I purchased a new Dell S2040L HDMI Monitor and I would like to Daisy Chain to my Thunderbolt. I plugged the Dell Monitor into the back of the Thunderbolt monitor and my Mac Book Pro (OX Version 10.9.4) will not reconize the Dell monitor as a second monitor. Is there a display setting that needs to be changed?

You could use a USB to DVI converter

but performance will be severly limited by USB and some functions won't work
    <http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.php>

  • Connet a thunderbolt monitor and min display port monitor to a mac mini

I have a new late 2012 Mac Mini.  I also have an exisiting Apple mini display monitor and just got a new Apple thunderbolt monitor.  How do I get these both to work with this Mac Mini so I can have dual monitors?  I read something about an external thunderbolt drive.  How would that work and what product should I buy that has all the ports on the back?  Thank you for the help.

Unfortunately a Mini Displaport monitor will not work when connected via a Thunderbolt display. Nor will a Thunderbolt display work via a Mini Displayport monitor.
    See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219
You could use a DVI or HDMI monitor in addition to the Thunderbolt display, or you could use two Thunderbolt displays. You could sell your old monitor and buy another new one.

  • Can the last link in a thunderbolt daisy-chain be a non-thunderbolt monitor using miniDisplay port?

Can the last link in a thunderbolt daisy-chain be a non-thunderbolt monitor, using miniDisplay port?
For example, Mac mini <--> external SSD <--> apple cinema display 30" (using miniDisplay port adaptor plugged into the SSD's second thunderbolt port)

for instance STAE122 or STAE 127?
FWIW, STAE129 is the current version TB adapter
that is self powered and has TB daisy chain port.
STAE122 and STAE127 are older versions and
not the current model, though there may be stock of
these around.  As to whether this will solve your issue,
    I don't know.
Can I trick the Mac under Bootcamp as OS to use HDMI for the monitor? Dell officially says that the monitor can only accept 1900x1080 over HDMI, but some have fiddled wth different computers with custom settings that worked with some Monitors but mostly under Linux and to Dell 2711.
The MacMini HDMI port is hardware limited to 1980x1200.

    Yes.  See question 14 in:

Not directly (see question 16 above), but it will work if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the displays.

  • 2000$ worth of 27inch Thunderbolt Monitors and I cannot daisy chain them reliably. Please help.

I've got 2000$ wrapped up in 2 Thunderbolt monitors and I cannot daisy chain them with a 3000$ 15 inch Retina macbook Pro. This is completely unacceptable and I hope someone knows how to fix it.
At certain points since June or July when I first got all the gear I got it to work but never since. The thunderbolt display is recognized but nothing appears on the screen -- this is ridiculous considering how much I dropped on this rig.
    Any help would be awesome.
    Thanks,

  • Can I connect my ps4 to my Thunderbolt Monitor?

Hi all, I was just wondering if there was any way to connect my ps4 to my thunderbolt monitor. I'm getting both of these for christmas, so I want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff. I'm also receiving an Elgato Capture Card, but I think that's irrelevant.
I've done quite a bit of research, and I think it's possible if you use an HDMI to thunderbolt connector, which you can buy on amazon for like 10 bucks.
Overall I just want to know if this could work, using my ps4's hdmi to plug into my Elgato, using another HDMI from the output of the elgato to the adapter and then using that thunderbolt cable to plug into the monitor. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

A Thunderbolt requires a computer with a Thunderbolt port.  It will not work with anything else.  There are no adapters or converters that will help.
The Amazon adapter is for connecting  a computer with a Thunderbolt port to a display with HDMI.  It will not work the other way round.
