Thunderbolt to DV in/out

Hello,
I bought a new 13" MacBook Pro Retina. As there is no FireWire Port I ordered the Apple adaptor Thunderbolt to FireWire.
I have now following problem : my Sony camera has only DV in/out. I have a cable DV to FireWire 400 that I used to import videos into my former MacBook Pro 17" from 2006. But the new Apple adaptor goes from Thunderbolt to FireWire 800. So, I cannot use it for importing my videos into my new MacBook Pro.
I don't find an Apple adaptor Thunderbolt to DV or Thunderbolt to FireWire 400.
What can I do for havin the best quality importing my videos?
Thanks for all help!

Get a 4-pin to 9-pin firewire cable like this. and use it with the Apple Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter.
Don't fool around trying to use a FW400-FW800 plug adapter, they are generally trouble especially with camcorders.

  • Thunderbolt signal keep falling out!?

Hello i have problem with the thunderbolt signal keeping falling out.
The problem occurs when i connect my MBA to a projecter or my tv, with an thunderbolt-vga adaptor or thundebolt-hdmi adaptor.
In around 70% of the time the signal is good and display video and sound (when using Hdmi), but 30% of the time the signal drops/falls out and there is either no connection or only sound.
Is the port falty or could it be something else?
    Hope you can help me.

Ps. If needed i can post a video of the fallout

I must say i'm very disappointed. I payed over 2800 euro's for a new laptop with thunderbolt screen and all i got is frustrations and no help from apple.
Well, they did offer you help, only they'll need to get "hands on". Considering your investment, it's worth a trip to the nearest Apple store or service center, I'd say. Especially if it's unclear what causes your trouble... keep in mind that it could well be "user-inflicted" as well...
For as long as the latter point is unclear, you'll have to admit that you have no reason to complain or similar.

  • Thunderbolt to HDMI - TV out

I have an adaptor for this, but when connecting my MBA to a new TV via HDMI, the TV screen shows my 'Mission Control' with relevant windows open, but not the content of those windows, such as a video playing in Safari. When I select the Safari window, the TV just shows the grey background same as Mission Control default -any ideas?

If you want your TV to show the same thing as your Mac's internal screen, you need to turn on Mirroring in the Displays/Arrangement system preferences. Have you done that?
    Regards.

  • Why doesn't the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock relay sound from it's audio out port?

Posted to Belkin Support community to no avail

Why can't my Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock operate my desktop speakers?
    Options
    07-14-2014 01:48 PM
Bought a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock at the Apple Store to use with my new MacBook Pro.
When I connected it to my
    -20" Mac Cinema display,
-Various USB connected hubs and devices,
    -Various Firewire hubs and devices
-My ethernet network from my Cable Modem
Then made the last connection from the Dock to the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Pro...
    All was fine.
But when I made that one last connection - to my desktop speakers via the audio-out port on the dock (earphones icon) nothing happened.  The dock did not pick up the audio from the laptop playng an iTunes song or send it to the desktop speakers.  When I unplugged the audio cable from the Dock and plugged it in to the MacBook Pro directly, the desktop speakers kicked right in again.
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
Of for some reason, can that signal not be carried by Thunderbolt?
Will I have to get used to the onerous task of unplugging 2 cables from my MacBook Pro when I want to more it to another location in stead of just 1 cable?
But stay with me.  Here's the thing.
When this happened I called Belkin Customer Support to ask if they could help me.  After taking me through their steps, they agreed that the unit must be defective and agreed to ship me a replacement Thunderbolt Express Dock.
The replacement arrived over the weekend and when I shut down my system and then plugged everything from Dock I purchased into the replacement Thunderbird Express Dock - - - - - the same thing happened!
No signal to the speakers from the dock.  Perfect signal when the plug moved from the Dock to the computer itself.
    Hence my question:
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
    Can it accomplish that function?
Am I really that unlucky to have received 2 defective new Belkin Thunderbolt Express Docks in a row?
Or is it simply a matter of the Dock not handling audio throughput in the manner I am expecting.
Then again, if this is the case, why did the Belkin techies not know this when I called them in the first place.
Yes, I'm going on and on here.  But I really don't have time for this.
    What's going on here?

OK.  No reason to be playing games here.  Just surprised that this issue hasn't been brought up here on the community boards as well.  Here's the simple solution

After reaching a Level III technician in Belkin customer support today and having spent approximately 4-5 person hours on this issue, we figured out that the Sound/Output preferences in the Apple System Preferences should not be set to "Internal Speakers"  but rather set to "USB PnP Sound Device".
Worked like a charm.  Simple, elegant solution to a real problem, one likely to be encountered by 90% of the people who buy a Belkin Thunderbid Express Dock off the shelves of any Apple Store to use with a current generation Apple laptop or desktop computer.
But the Level III Belkin technician admmtted that this critical little piece of simple, straightforward information should have been readily available to their Level 1 techies who began helping me 5 person hours ago.  Would even have saved Balkin loads of customer service support time.
    And so the saga ends
Belkin owes me for helping them learn this precious lesson.

Apple say it should work on the latest models, but as long as I keep the DP1.2 option enabled, I just get a black screen (apple shows me that one display is connected). Any idea?

Dell does not test/validate this monitor model on apple proprietary hardware and software. We are not convinced that the apple computer thunderbolt port meets the standardized mDP/DP specifications. The most I can say is that the apple proprietary thunderbolt port is hit or miss connecting to our monitors simply using our mDP to DP cable. Some apple users have mentioned that using a thunderbolt to DP adapter or thunderbolt to mDP adapter has had better results. Ask the apple users on their forum where to purchase one.

  • Problems with thunderbolt display

This problem only presents itself when my 27" TB dispaly is connected to my Early 2011 13" MBP. I have 2 256GB SSD installed with 16GB RAM. I am using a magic mouse and the bluetooth keyboard.
When my TB Display is connected to my MBP the  magic mouse is behaving strangely. It loses connectivity and then will reconnect. It also is not tracking well at all. The mouse will jump places on the screen, delayed response, and skip A LOT. Again this only happens when it's connected to the TB display.
I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM. I have also tried a different magic mouse and the problem still persists. Apple "Genius" could not help me at all. Sometimes restarting or shutting down will help for a short while but the problem always comes back.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I spoke too soon - still got the same problems.  Thought at one point I had a faulty power cable but that is not the problem.
    The behaviour is wier :-
    1. I Boot my Mac Mini. Screen stays black.  I hear the small fans spin in the Thunderbolt and air comes out of the vents.  So the power must be on...
    2. My iPhone, attached to Thunderbolt via USB, beeps as it starts to charge, then it stops charging, then it beeps to start charging and off again - and so on.  Eventually this stops but the screen does not come on.
Tried for over an hour, checking connections ,rebooting the Mini etc etc.  Then eventually for no apparent reason it came on.  Rebooted several times, and it workd again.
This behaviour started after weeks of no problems, but then I moved the screen to plug something into the USB port.
Beginning to wonder if the behaviour is consistent with the screen sleeping over and over again.. Have switched off the energy saver settings on the mini but don't know if this will help.

  • How to setup dual external monitors on a MacBook Pro 15" A1398?

Need to setup dual monitors for my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display A1398. I am in instructional designer and need the larger display from dual monitors. I think the best way is to connect using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter in the two Thunderbolt ports or HDMI out of the one HDMI port and the other using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.  I have two Thunderbolt ports, two USB ports and one HDMI port. How do I setup OS X Mavericks for this as well. I want to run it in clamshell mode. Wondered if there are any better or easier ideas?
    With peace and love,
    Sam K.

Hi! I recommend you using both thunderbolt ports with their HDMI adapters, i don't know why but in my case it has worked better than having one monitor connected on one thunderbolt port and another on the HDMI port. As for the clamshell mode I recommend you this articles: Mac notebooks: How to use your computer in closed clamshell (display closed) mode with an external display and http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/08/quickly-enter-clamshell-mode-with-an-external-dis play-in-mac-os-x/.
    This are a few recommendations:
    1. Use a usb mouse and keyboard, because sometimes bluetooth ones are not that trusty
    2. You could buy one of the fancy things (you can see one on the second article) that hold your macbook up to prevent overheating. If you can't afford one or you don't to buy one, you can prop your macbook with some books on the side of the union between the lid and the keyboard (i don't know the word in english) and a very heavy one on the other side.

  • How to connect a firewire camera (XL1) to a MBP w/ no firewire port?

I need to connect my Canon XL1 to my MBP (which doesn't have FW, not even i-link!).  I  refuse to buy a Tbolt-FW adapter (unless it is not made by Apple). I spent a forture on this  notebook + I already had to buy a Tbolt-Ethernet adapter (no ethernet port either) + an external  DVD drive (no superdrive). This is getting ridiculous.
I found plenty of very cheap USB-FW adapters on Amazon, but none of them worked for anyone. If you know of one that does work, could you please let me know where I might find it?
I looked for HDMI-FW and HDMI-Ethernet adapters but found nothing.  I just started looking for a FW-iPod connector but haven't found anything yet.
I have a Dazzle analog to digital video converter it's going to degrade the picture quality.
All my older Macs would have worked if they weren't all down.  I have an old Sony VAIO which has i-link and ethernet. It looks like my only option at the moment. Pretty dissapointing to say the least.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  Thank you.

I understand your objection, since I am keeping my non-Retina MacBook Pro with the built-in FireWire and Gigabit Ethernet ports for as long as I can, but the Apple adapter looks like the only real solution right now (other than the Vaio) if the old Macs are still down. It is not clear if there are any non-Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire adapters out there that are available and if so, are reliable.
While I am annoyed with Apple taking these ports off the new Macs (especially the GigE), I also believe that you need to commit to the tools required to get the job done. If it was mine I would have considered the adapter part of the original total budget for the machine. Maybe you could see if there's a used adapter on eBay.

  • Can I use 2 TV's as secondary displays from Macbook Air?

Here is what I need to be able to do:
In one large room, I need to display my keynote presentation from my Macbook Air 11" (Mid 2012) onto 2  50" Flat-Screen TV's simultaneously that are on the walls on the left and right sides of the room.
I have several Apple TV's but don't really like Airplay so much because it looks "choppy" when displaying animations. Besides, I'm not even sure you can Airplay mirror to 2 Apple TV's at the same time...?..
I also am wondering... will a Thunderbolt-to-Dual HDMI Out work (or does that exist, lol) ??
    Help much appreciated..

    Nevermind. I resolved this.
Went to Best Buy and bought a Rocketfish 2-way HDMI Splitter. Went from my Macbook Air right to both HDTV's.
    BOOM.
