  • Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptor/Bad connection?

Has anybody had the same matter as I have? Please let me know!
'Thunderbolt to FireWire Adaptor' I bought doesn't properly fit in the Thunderbolt socket of my Macbook Air (that Thunder mark on it).
It does a half of it and doesn't go deeper. I'm sure any info of photos and videos I saw online that people uploaded look it fits in all, but mine doesn't.
Is this normal? One I found on Apple Support Community says
'Be wary of the bad connection with the adaptor though, it falls out with the slightest movement.'
It sounds like talking what the same I have. If it's so, I can use it even it properly not goes in? or I can claim the tech support?
If anybody knows info, please let me know! Will appreciate it. Thank you!!

    Yikes, that's sad to hear.
I can't test it, no TB here, but are all these drives self AC powered, ie. no bus powered drives?

  • Thunderbolt to firewire adaptor does not work when daisy chaining firewire devices

    Hi,
I just purchased the Thunderbolt to firewire adaptor for my new late 2012 iMac.
It works when connecting a single firewire device, but when I daisy chain another drive, the first drive disconnects and nothing mounts.
I am trying a Hitachi G-Raid and a couple of WD My Studio II hard drives. They all work when connected directly to the adaptor, but not when more than one drive if daisy chained with firewire.
Has anyone got firewire daisy-chaining working with a thunderbolt adaptor? (just to clarify I am not refering to thunderbolt daisy chaining, as the adaptor is an end-of-chain thunderbolt device).
    Thanks

  • Experience with thunderbolt to firewire adaptor - meeting expectations?

    Hello All,
This question goes primarily to both professional and home recording artists who have so patiently waited for the "once-mythical /now available on the online store" thunderbolt to firewire adaptor. Most of us new MBPR users are waiting for them to arrive, but has anyone used one and what is your experience?  I am curious as to how they work with various interfaces as well as anyone who is using the adaptor to record audio to an external drive or using it to connect an external drive for storage of samples for virtual instruments.
Thanks ahead of time for your insight!

I can answer both: things work as expected as long as you don't need it bus powered. my hard drives that have power adapters work fine (both FW 400 & 800) and my MOTU Ultralite Hybrid works via FW 400 as long as the Ultralite is plugged into the wall. Nothing i have tried so far works with bus power.

  • Will the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adaptor allow me to connect to my ProFire 610?

Was using this for recording live instruments & vocals on a G5, but there's no Firewire port on the current iMacs.

When you plug the projector into the computer, with the projector on, dose the computer reconize a second a 2nd display is connected?
ie: Menu bar, click on the Apple menu, chose System Preferences, click on displays, do you see an arragment tab?
if you do see an arragment tab, try clicking gather display windows. a window should pop up for the projector. What resolution is it set to? is there a lower resolution you could set?

  • When will the thunderbolt to firewire adaptor be available?

    Anybody know? They said July.

Did Apple itself say July or did somebody just say that somebody reported that somebody assumed it would be July?  Anyway, July isn't over yet.

  • Has anyone been able to use an Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire to daisy chain a dozen or more FireWire drives?

Ever since I realized that I was not able to connect my FireWire daisy chain to my brand new Retina MBP there has been problems. Four months down the road, I am still unable to use my FireWire drives and have experienced terrible problems whenever I connect my FireWire daisy chain to this new Mac.
I have bought two of these adaptors from Apple now and both do the same thing. The daisy chain has been working perfectly for years with my older MBP and still does! There are no problems until I connect to the new Mac.
I have 15 various hard drives in NewerTech and DatOptics enclosures for over 22 TB. When connected to the new Mac, I would have multiple apps just hang, sometimes just Apple apps, sometimes 3rd party. I will not be able to force quit them and they will keep relauching as you can watch them in the Force Quit window. The Finder will hang and there is no relaunching it. I am having to do a force shutdown twice an hour which leaves no time for work!
After four months of this, now I am being told that Apple will buy back my Mac at full price. But I have basically lost the good part of four month’s worth of work because of constantly fighting the new Mac. This is cost me all my savings and I am about to lose a client. It certainly seems that releasing Thunderbolt1 was a huge, huge mistake.
Does anyone know of any large Fire Wire daisy chain working with Thunderbolt?
    TIA,
    R

Yes, my first post is all about how darn iffy the adaptors are and I have two of them to return now.
I question your answer because I am betting that four drives that are in one enclosure NOT all RAIDed together as one drive, but as four separate drives that those four drive will count as four devices. The daisy chain that I had going had eight drives in TWO quad boxes, four drives in TWO dual drives and another drive in a single enclosure. A total of five “devices” if you will, but also a total of 13 drives that were usually in this daisy chain.
Both of the Apple branded Thunderbolt to FireWire adaptors chocked BIG TIME on this and it works no problem on my older MBP. You basically can not use a new Mac when you are connected to a daisy chain like this!
Just checked the Apple website and indeed, I can get a new MBP with FireWire 800, just not with the Retina display! I wish that I would have known this five months ago before this all started!

  • Is there any more word on when apple will be releasing the thunderbolt to FireWire adapter?

Is there any new word (newer than "in July") on when Apple will be releasing the Thunderbolt to FireWire Adaptor?

    Not yet.

can i connect my dv camera to my new imac via thunderbolt firewire adaptor

If FW is the only connection the camera has then yes Thunderbolt Firewire adapter is correct. It's available from a number of sources including Apples own online store, in the USA the link would be:

  • Is daisy chaining on a macbook air through the thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adaptor possible?

    Hello,
I am attempting to daisy chain two Glyph portagig 50's and connect them to my MacBook Air. They are both 1TB, 7200RPM drives and are both connected to external power. When I attempt the daisy chain only the first drive mounts and when I attempt to connect the second drive to it, the first (mounted) drive ejects and the second drive does not mount. Both drives need to be turned off and on again in order for either to be remounted.
I contacted Glyph and they have said that it is most likely a problem with the Thunderbolt to FW800 adaptor. Which leads me to wonder whether or not daisy chaining through the adaptor is even possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
My MacBook Air is a mid-2011 model with a 1.8GHz Core i7 processor and 4GB of RAM, if that helps at all.
    Thank you!

    GeorgeFlick
They are both 1TB, 7200RPM drives and are both connected to external power.
Eeeek, dont do that anymore.  2.5" dont need power, and daisy chaining them BOTH thru thunderbolt, your Air is likely kicking one because youre mostly likely sending feedback THRU the firewire.
Some inventive folks unknowingly have powered (3.5" need power, 2.5" DONT) 2.5" thru USB and found out the hard way they deep fried circuitry.

  • Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 Adaptors... any available?

    Hi all,
I'm probably going to buy a 15" Mac Book Pro whenever they are released later this year and have a strong suspicion that Apple will drop the Firewire 800 port in favour of Thunderbolt. I guess this really comes as no surprise but hopefully I'm wrong and they keep it. Anyway, in the event that they do remove it I'd still like to be able to keep using my external FW800 HDD so was wondering if any cheap adaptors are on the market yet? I've looked around but can't seem to find anything. Anyone care to enlighten me?
    Thanks in advance.

The adaptor from Sonnet is for an Express34 card and it does not read SXS cards for Sony cameras!
I do not find a Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 on the Sonnet website. Found this, however, but it won't be released until this summer:
    http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/belkin-details-thunderbolt-express-dock/
It seems that Belkin will have the solution for all USB and FireWire devices that you will want to connect with the new 15" MacBook Pro coming out, supposedly at the end of April:

I'm in the same boat as you, so hopefully this helps.

  • Is there a thunderbolt to firewire 400 adaptor available?

I have an old Sony handycam (connects using firewire 400) with heaps of footage on it from years of overseas travel. When I buy my new Macbook Pro, I want to load my video into iMovie. I see there is a thunderbolt to firewire 800 adaptor, but that's no use to me.
    Thanks,
    Ros

I'm sorry but there isn't a Thunderbolt to FireWire 400 adapter. In your case, what you can try is to buy a Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter, and a FireWire 400 to 800 cable, so it should work.
Also, have you got a MacBook Pro with Retina display? If not, your MacBook should have a FireWire 800 port, so you just need the FireWire 400 to 800 cable

  • Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 Adaptor for video capture

May need to purchase this as my new LaCie D2 Quadra scratch disc drive is using the one firewire port I have (had all kinds of problems using USB 2 port)
So I need another port to capture video, my cameras use firewire only.  Wondered if any one has successfully used this adapter to capture HDV and DV video?
iMac mid 2011 21.5 inch (10.7.5), FCP7, HDV and DV video source

You can use the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter for all peripherals that use FireWire, so it will work without any problem to capture video > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
