Thunderbolt to HDMI resolution on Samsung monitor

I recently got a Kanex iAdapt Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and an Amazon HDMI cable to hook up my MBP to a Samsung notebook.
I am getting a picture on my monitor (I saw on the boards that the most commom problem was not getting any picture at all), it's just not setup right. The resolution looks weird and it's really hard on the eyes.
I've tried all resolutions System Preferences give me (1080p, 1080i, 1600x900, 1344x1008, etc) and it's still not looking right.
Does anybody know what might help this issue?
Ps.: The monitor I'm using is the Samsung SyncMaster P2270HN
Thanks!

Nandasaboia,
I'm having a similar problem with a client's mid 2011 17" MBP  i7 with thunderbolt connection and a Samsung P2770FH.
I'm using a mini-display-to-HDMI cable to go from the thunderbolt port on the 2011 17" MBP to the HDMI input on the back of the monitor.  The monitor works fine in 720p, but in 1080i it is blurry and in 1080p the bottom 2/3 of the screen flickers and goes all snowy every few seconds.
The weird thing is my 2009 15" MBP Intel Core 2 Duo with a Mini-Display port works just fine in 1080p.  Everything is clear and crispy just that way you would expect.  So it isn't the monitor, and it isn't the cable.  It sounds like it is at best a driver issue with sending a Display-port signal via a Thunderbolt port, but at worst it could be that there needs to be a new controller for the Thunderbolt port hardware.
Here's a post about it in more detail.  It talks about the Apple Thunderbolt Display not the MBP, but I think the reason for the trouble could be the same.   I don't know, I have to do more research on the topic.

  • Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter not working

I just purchased a 13 inch macbook air and when I use my thunderbolt to hdmi adapter my Samsung monitor along with my other displays do not recognize my mac.  How can I get my monitors/displays to recognize my device?  Do I need software to get this working?
I am using an amazon high speed hdmi cable with ethernet.  Will that effect my connection?

I finally learned how to get "Detect Displays" to show up. You have to press the Option key while in the Display pane.
Unfotrtunately this does not work. No other displays are detected. Yes, the TV is on and plugged in to my computer.

  • HT4614 Is there a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor for an external monitor?

I use a mid-2011 13" MacBook Air.  My external Samsung Monitor (Synchmaster P2450) has started flickering.  It might be the Belkin minidisplay port > HDMI adaptor or some conflict with Thunderbolt (same port).   Should I invest in a new Belkin adaptor or is there a Thunderbolt>HDMI connector that might work?

That's interesting, because I have seen a few people post here regarding reliability of these connectors. I have a Belkin HDMI adapter, and have not had a problem with it. But, seeing that a few people have reported problems leads me to ponder the same question as yours.
I bought the Belkin more recently, as the one I originally purchased (a Kanex) didn't have audio support at the time I bought it, as the Macs didn't have it either. So I bought the Belkin when audio became fully supported by both Apple and the adapter makers. Both adapters still work without issue.

  • Mac mini late 2012, hdmi to Samsung Monitor no signal

mac mini late 2012, OS X ver. 10.9.2, hdmi to Samsung Monitor (S22C300) no signal,
but thunderbolt to hdmi adaptor can work, any fix for hdmi issue?

It would seem that if the Samsung monitor is not waking from sleep, then Samsung has not properly implemented the Wake on Signal that the Mini is sending out. There is nothing unique that Apple would do for one manufacturer. The signal is being sent out and that is why other monitors wake. Your Samsung, and mine, which are both probably different models are not waking when requested by the Mini. The best that can be done is to set the Energy Saving System Preference to not put the monitor to sleep. Use the Screen Saver as desired.

Can anyone help me connect my Macbook Air to a SAMSUNG TV.  When I follow the basic instructions (Thunderbolt to HDMI connection) the screen on my computer goes grey and an error message appears inviting me to press any button to restart the Macbook.  When I do this nothing happens.  Only when I disconnect the computer from the TV does the Macbook allow me to login. The TV does not receive any signal from the Macbook even though I know the HDI port works fine.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?  Do I need to enable something on the Macbook?

    An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

    Yes.
You can have one HDMI (or DVI monitor via HDMI to DVI adopter) on the HDMI port
Another monitor via one Thunderbolt port and suitable adopter if not a displayport/mini displayport monitor
And use the other Thunderbolt port for Ethernet via a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adopter.

  • W530 running Windows 7: can't use optimal resolution on Samsung S27A850DS monitor

    Hello,
I use a Lenovo W530 laptop with the NVIDIA Quadro K1000M video
card running Windows 7. Recently, I got a Samsung S27A850DS monitor
with an optimal resolution of 2560 x 1440. However, the best
resolution for this monitor on my system is listed as 1920 x 1080.
Can someone explain this to me? The NVIDIA Quadro K1000M specs
    (e.g. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-K1000M.76894.0.html)
assert that resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 are supported. So where
is the problem? Is it a W530 limitation, or a Windows 7 limitation?

  • Resolution of Samsung T220 monitor with Mac Mini (or any Mac)

I'm looking at a Samsung T220 or T220HD paired with a Mac Mini, or more probably new Mac Mini to be announced in Jan, 2009. The maximum resolution for the T220 is 1680 x 1050. The Samsung manual states that the T220 usually supports all Macs, but to check the "Preset Timing Modes" to ensure Mac is supporte for this model.
When checking the T220 user manual, the "Preset Timing Modes" section indicates only the following resolutions when connecting to a Mac:
    MAC, 640 x 480
    MAC, 832 x 624
    MAC, 1152 x 870
Does this mean Mac owners can never get the maximum 1680 x 1050 resolution out of this and similar Samsung monitors, only 1152 x 870? If so, what's the point of investing in a good quality monitor that gives Macs only mediocre resolutions?
Any Mac owners getting 1680 x 1050 out of their Samsung T220 or T220HD?

    Hi there
I just got a new Mac Mini and a 32 inch Samsung LCD 450 series. I am not sure of max resolution but I know it's a 720p set. I have been impressed with the plug and play set up via a VGA cable. But, I can not seem to figure out how to get the max resolution set up either.
The Mac display preferences only give me choices for standard monitor sizes that are not proportional to the Samsung screen, I have tired both 800 x 600 and the 1024 x 768 I have mixed and matched this with changing the picture proportions on the TV (16:9 vs 4:3). Things either seem stretched or overly square.
Am I missing something here, Is there somewhere else I should be looking for settings to tweak?
Any help or steering toward other resources would be most welcome.
    Thanks, Josh

Yes, it will do no harm, but it is meant for trouble shooting and you should not have to use it all the time.

  • Do I use the thunderbolt port or the hdmi port for my monitor?

I'm getting a 1080p hd monitor. i have a macbook pro with retina. Should i plug the monitor in using a hdmi to hdmi or should i use a thunderbolt to hdmi?

Search your computer for a folder called user.lib, it should be in the same directory as the Labview.exe. Usually the path is like the one below, but it depends on your installation options.
    C:\program Files\National Instruments\Labview 6.1\user.lib
Open all the files you modified, and change the inputs back to the way they were before you changed them.
On the front panel of each VI, right click on each input control you changed, and select Data Operations, then click "Make current value Default". Save all the VI's.
Next, change the controls back to values that work for your DIO work, click the "Make current Value Default" on each control, then resave the VI in your User.lib location WITH A DIFFERENT FILENAME. Use the "Save As" command un
der the File menu. These are the files you want to save in your User.Lib folder.
Now when you want to call those files for your special DIO work, you use your custom files which are saved in the user.lib folder, not the files in the DIO menu.

  • No sound on mac mini with samsung monitor using hdmi

I have a new mac mini which is hooked up through an HDMI cable to a Samsung L2350 monitor.  How can I get sound out of the monitor?  Right now, nothing is coming out.  I've made sure my setting are correct but still no luck.
    Please help!

    Which Samsung Monitor....?
A Google Search >  Samsung L2350 - Google Search does not turn up any Samsung monitors.
    Check your Sound Preferences.
If you don't see the HDMI option in the Sound Preference, try going to the Audio MIDI Setup in Applications Utilities.
If the Sound Preference and Audio MIDI Setups are set correctly, then perhaps you need to either explore the Samsung Manual or try a different HDMI cable.

  • My latest MacMini is unable to detect my Samsung monitor via HDMI direct connect.

    Hi
My MacMini (current model ie 1 week old) is unable to detect my Samsung monitor (it is about 6 months old and comes with HDMI port) via HDMI.
However, it is possible if I were to use the HDMI/DVI converter that comes with the MacMini.
FYI, I have tried swapping the HDMI cable but the result is still the same. I prefer to connect the the monitor directly to the MacMini without going thru the HDMI/DVI converter and appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi all
Finally I managed to get my Mac Mini connected to the Samsung monitor via HDMI-HDMI.
Below is the cut and paste of the thread I just posted which explains all.

Re: No Signal on HDMI TV After Lion Upgrade  Sep 10, 2011 11:20 AM  (in response to
    Mac80)
Hi Mac80     I have been struggling for the past couple weeks since I purchased my Mac Mini (a few weeks back) to connect to the Samsung B2430 LCD monitor directly via HDMI-HDMI but to no avail i.e. "no connection detected"     Fyi HDMI-DVI works, but I just wanted the HDMI-HDMI instead.     I did exactly what you advised i.e. pull out the HDMI cable from the Mac Mini; power up & power down the Mac Mini; reconnect the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini; power up again... Wooa...lla... for some strange reason & though somewhat "primitive":-)  ... It works. It can now detect my monitor at 1080p. I just shut down and switch it on again to make sure that it is not a fluke, it works!     Fyi I just acquired another Samsung LED 27" monitor SA550 (same problem as above inititially but got it working via the above approach)     Thanks alot Mac80 and really appreciate it!     jJpecke

  • Is it possible to attach Samsung Monitor to the 27 inch Cinema Display?

    Hello,
I have an Apple 27 inch Cinema Display and I also have a Samsung 27 inch monitor.
I would like to know if it's possible to create a dual monitor setup by connecting the Samsung monitor (dvi or hdmi) with an adapter to the Cinema Display's mini display port on the back?
Does anyone know if this is possible? Or does it only work with another Cinema Display?
    I'd appreciate any help received.
    Thanks,

Is it possible to connect the PC to the Samsung monitor via Dual link DVI and to the Apple Cinema Display via mini display port and work as a dual monitor setup?
That should work if the PC has both DisplayPort and dual-link DVI (or two DisplayPorts).
I'm thinking the best solution for MacBook Air is to purchase a Thundebolt display and hook that up to the Cinema Display and I think then I would have a dual screen setup at full resolution.
That will work if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the Thunderbolt display and the Mini DisplayPort display.
But currently I don't think there is a way to connect a PC to a Thunderbolt Display.
Not unless the PC has Thunderbolt.

  • Is it possible to connect 2 Samsung monitors to an imac 27"

Is it possible to connect 2 Samsung monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080 to a new imac 27" with two thunderbolt connectors (per mini displayport to dvi or mdp to hdmi cable)? So that there is the full resolution on all three (Mac + two Samsung) monitors? And if its possible what do I need to do so?
    Thanks for the help

I have no ThunderBolt iMac (mine is a 2009) nor one or two of these Samsung Displays.
So I can't say or guarantee that the combination will work.
Some displays simply don't work with Macs for no apparent reason.
Best would be to take your MacBook Pro into the store where you want to buy the Samsung displays and ask for a test.
