Thunderbolt to Video Adapter = no such cable

Ok, so I need to connect a mini DisplayPort to a Video Adapter. I already tried daisy chaining (which a apple chat support encouraged me to) a mini DisplayPort to DVI and then DVI to Video Adapter. It doesn't fit right. Any one know of a solution for this?

Apple does not sell one. Stacking the adpaters the way you did will not work. You will lose alot of quality going that way.
Here is one for sale at Amazon.com for US$60:

  • Where can i buy an thunderbolt to video adapter for my macbook pro i7?, where can i buy an thunderbolt to video adapter for my macbook pro i7?

I recently upgraded my macbook pro 1,1 to a macbook pro i7 i had a dvi-i to video adapter to connect it to the tv.
the new macbook i7 uses thunderbolt to connect, i bought a dvi-d to thunderbolt connection to bridge with the old adapter but this now doesnt work.
is there a thunderbolt to video adapter? or can anyone suggest a proper way to connect the two?

The only Thunderbolt display I'm aware of is Apple's.  However, the Thunderbolt port on your MBP is also a mini-displayport and that is the normal way of connecting an external display to your MBP.  You therefore need a mini-displayport to whatever you need on the TV end, e.g. HDMI.  Apple have a good selection of cables on their online store.

  • Can I import video from a Firewire camcorder using the Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter?

I have an older camcorder that has a firewire interface. My new iMac does not have any firewire ports. Can I import video from the camcorder using a Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter or is the Thunderbold adapter only used for hard drives and displays?

Rather than an adapter, I would suggest you purchase a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire 800 cable to run from the camera to the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. Those FW 400 to 800 adapters frequently do not work so well for importing video in my experience.
The Firewire cables are pretty inexpensive if you get them online. For example try Monoprice.

  • Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter - do you need cables as well?????????????

Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter
i have this already, but do i need a certain cable to go into the TV. as it only has one port instead of the usual 3 av leads have???
    help please,confused...............

Look in your question and you'll find the answer...
Apple mini DVI to Video Adapter
...the usual 3 av (audio/video) leads...
DVI is video only so you only need one port... if you were hooking up audio and video you'd need three (1 for video - 2 for the left/right audio channels)

  • DVI to Video Adapter and S-Video Cable = Flipping TV Screen

    Hello!
I attached my DVI & S-Video Cable to my television. Everything was fine, except when choosing different display resolutions, the TV screen would start flipping.
    THEN:
    • I removed the DVI to Video Adapter from the computer while it was still plugged into the TV.
Now, no matter what I have tried, I get a TV screen that flips.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!
    Jeff

S-Video is the better of the two interfaces. Neither is very good when compared with a computer screen, which will have much higher resolution. I doubt you will notice much difference between S-Video and RCA Video but if you have the choice you might as well go S-Video.

  • Problem with apple mini dvi to video adapter cable

I recently bought an apple mini dvi to video adapter cable and all that it would display on my television screen was black and white colors. The quality of the screen seemed to be okay but it was hard to tell since i did not have any color. Is there something that i can do to fix this problem

Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

  • Apple DVI to Video adapter M9267G/A and extension cable

Will the Apple DVI to Video adapter M9267G/A work with this cable?
    http://shop.vendio.com/dcables/item/899653106/?s=1181815202
Also, is it safe to "hot plug" the adapter, or should I only plug it in when the Mac is off?
I bought the adapter used with no documentation, and couldn't find any setup instructions on Apple's downloads page.
    Thank you.

    Hi-
So you're trying to extend the reach of the adapter? Closer to TV, VCR, etc.?
Seems like it should work, though I would personally get a long S-video/composite cable. Cheaply constructed DVI extensions can cause a loss of signal strength, and/or pick up RFI and result in poor performance.
It would be safe to hot plug the adapter itself, though I would not power on the attached devices until after connected to the adapter.

  • New imac to tv help:  mDVI to DVI cable, DVI to component video adapter?

I am getting my new imac tomorrow, very excited. I would love to be able to hook it up to my HD tv which has component video inputs.
It has two by the way, one says component video, one says component video HD. (that's the one my xbox is hooked up to.)
I think I'm getting like 1020p or something like that?
am aware of the lack of sound, but will have the imac hooked up to speakers so no worries on that.
will this chain work? mDVI-DVI cable, DVI to component video adapter? then what? component video cable to tv?
so I will need to buy two adapters and one cable right? Also, the cable is gonna need to be about 30ft long so will I be able to daisy chain cables?
PS, what kind of resolution will I be getting with the standard (none component HD) inputs?
thanks for the help. The info on the mac sight about adapters in not very specific to this hodge podge.

  • What s-video cable for a DVI to S-Video adapter

    Hi,
I have an old MiniG4 lying around, which I thought I'd make into a media centre.
I bought the Apple DVI to Video Adapter (<http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A>) which is specifically for a Mac Mini and I thought that I had an s-video cable too, but clearly I have the wrong one.
The cable I have, has a single plug at one end and the red/white/yellow plugs at the other end. The single plug is a headphone-jack style, but with 3 yellow connector 'stripes' instead of the usual 2 black ones, but this plug doesn't fit in the DVI Adapter's yellow socket. It's too wide.
Can anyone tell me what cable I need to work with the DVI Adapter? Should it be 2 plugs to 3, or 1 plug to 3? (I'm in Europe, if that changes anything)
(Why don't Apple tell you what you need on the product page at the Apple store???)

    Thanks for the replies.
I found the correct cables ... really dumb that Apple sell adapters but doesn't tell you what is required for them to work.
Anyway, it works really well. I was surprised at how good the output is. Just like the original DVD. The only place I can see any artefacts is on a totally black screen. Should it be of interest to anyone else reading, I used Handbrake on preset AppleTV but with FFMPEG instead of H624 (which took incredibly long to encode) and choosing to maintain aspect ratio and 100% quality.
I'm also using the iPhone to control via Apple's 'Remote' iPhone app and I bought 'Rowmote' as well, which gives more control.
The G4 Mini is the 'stealth' version, the last one they made with a slightly faster processor and a more capable video card. It's adequately powerful for running the movies and acting a media hub.
All in all, I'm quite happy.

  • Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.

  • HT3231 transfer files to my new iMac system 10.8.3, 9 pin firewire. Apple sold me FireWire 9-6 with a Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter.  This will not work, do i need a different cable?

Then it sounds like the FW800 to 400 adapter just gets in the way. You don't have FW800 case? on my MDD G4 I added and used FW800 controller and cases from OWC and Sonnet.

  • Can I connect MacMini 2009 to Thunderbolt Display with Adapter Cable

Can I connect MacMini 2009 to Thunderbolt Display with Adapter Cable (Mini Display to Thunderbolt Adapter)

    Sorry but no you can't.
Only Macs with ThunderBolt ports can be used with the ThunderBolt Display and the 2009 Mac Mini doesn't have a ThunderBolt port.

  • Why is video adapter cable so short?

I don't know if this is a stupid question, but why is the video adapter cable so short? I am trying to connect my iBook to my large plasma TV to play a slideshow, and I can't even lay the laptop down, let alone control it from in front of the TV. Am I missing something?

The question isn't stupid at all (I originally thought the same thing). What you have to remember is that it's an adapter, not a cable. You still need an s-video, RGB or whatever cable thats required to connect from tv to the adapter.

  • Supplied video adapter cables?

In my box were 2 video adapter cables. One is a DVI to VGA adapter, the other looks like DVI to DVI. What is it for?

The DVI to DVI cable is for allowing two cables to be attached to your graphics card at the same time. Sometimes the plugs on some cables are a little wide so this adapter enables you to connect a narrower plug onto the card.

  • Is there such a thing as a "thunderbolt to VGA" adapter?

I am a professor at Wayne State University in Detroit and have to use the school's older computer system to project my keynote slides in class. I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and am using their newest VGA adapter, which seems to work with WSU's new-ish "smart carts", but not with the older ones. The schools tech guy told me to get a "thunderbolt to VGA adapter"--he said that would help the older system recognize my computer. Any thoughts?
    And thanks in advance.

Thanks so much. I have the Mini Display Port. Our tech guy was under the impression that there's another adapter with a thunderbolt image on it. But I told him that the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter was what apple sold me... so I'm guessing I have the right one and our tech guy is incorrect?
