But if you don't plan to boot from it, don't worry (+1)

  • ZZ7A-GD65 + 3TB Hard Disk Issue

Z77A-GD65 has 3TB Infinity feature that supports 3TB hard disk. However, I am not able to get 3TB hard disk space.
MSI Support gave me a manual on how to handle hard disk above 2.2TB. According to the manual:
    1. Go to bios/Boot Configuration and select UEFI Boot Drive BBS Priority
    2. Press enter to select UEFI: DVD-ROM as 1st Boot device
    3. Select UEFI: DVD-ROM as 1st Boot device
    4. Save Exit
    5. When installing OS, please make sure that you should  see the whole 3TB HDD if you want to have the 3TB HDD set as one whole partition.
Or you can divide partitions if you want according to the size that you need and then start to install Windows 7 64 bits.
However, I am stuck at step 2. Under UEFI Boot Drive BBS Priority, it only has 2 Options ( Built in EFI Shells or Disabled). There is no DVDROM options to choose at all.
My hard drive is WD 3TB Caviar Green. DVD ROM is Asus 24x drw-24b3st.
I bought this MSI Z77A-GD65 because it supports 3TB hard disk. In other manuals, the BIOS itself has the turn on and off feature of 2.2TB Infinity feature. After flashing my BIOS with the latest BIOS available to download which is v10.5, I still can't see the feature function.
    Please advise and assist.
On the side note, legal actions can be taken for giving false information to customer on this 3TB Infinity feature which actually doesn't exist in the BIOS?

    I'm a bit confused now...
I don't know why, but UEFI cannot see your optical drive. Maybe there's something wrong with your hardware.
But if you want to give it another try, I have 2 more ideas:
    - connect your DVD-ROM to diferent SATA port (maybe even unplug the hard drive), and see if you can perform step 2 from your first post (or if the device Fs0 appears after "map -r").
    - connect a fat16/fat32 formatted pendrive. If the pendrive is listed after "map -r" you could try to install Windows from pendrive. There are many ways to do that, but I have done this like it's in this tutorial: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/configure-a-usb-flash-drive-to-be-a-windows-7-installation-platform/1446 After you prepare the pendrive, use it with UEFI shell instead of DVD.

  • G41M-P28 support for 3TB hard drives?

Does G41M-P28 mbd supports 3TB hard drives, for example Seagate ST3000DM001. os is WIn7 x64. Thanks!

    Unfortunately I need 3TB as backup drive for 2 x 1,5TB disks
3TB HDD on G41M is gambling.
But what do you mean with "I need 3TB as backup drive for 2 x 1,5TB disks"?
And why don't you use 2 x 2TB if you really need that kind of backup?

  • W510 3Tb hard disk support?

When I connect a 3Tb external HD by USB port, size shows only 746 Gb.
Does the W510 support hard disks bigger than 2Gb?
Bios version 1.37, HD Seagate ST3000DM001, Windows 7 Professional SP1, Intel SATA AHCI controller version 11.2.0.1006.

The problem is not the T510.  First, many or most external USB housings do not support 3TB drives. (the limitation is in the USB-> SATA bridge circuit) I will assume yours does. The disk must be initialized using a GPT partition table, not MBR. For native support, you must be using windows7 64-bit or Vista SP1 64-bit. 32-bit operating systems cannot directly use GPT disks. You will need to re-initialize the drive and recreate the partition structure.  The MBR structure has pointers too small to address anything beyond 2.2 TB.
Here is a fairly good explanation in wikipedia that is mostly correct:

  • Support for larger hard disks...?

just a question regarding hard disk compatibility...
i am planning to purchase a faster, much larger capacity hard disk, but i always think a lot regarding compatibility.
from my previous experience, i used a driver from a known hd company but unfortunately it ruined my old board.  Now, i just have to be sure whether that hard disk that i will purchase will run in my system.
What are the things that i should know before i purchase a new one?  (i am planning to purchase a 40Gb 7200 hard disk)

... so, what motherboard do you have, and what BIOS-version? I would be VERY surprised if your new HDD would NOT be supported, btw!

I was loading some pictures onto my macbook and the photos did not load properly. I have around 4,200 current photos. There is 29 GB left on my hard drive. I can not see the last "event" of photos. Looking through preview I see some on my last photos and some are there but do not show up in iphoto. Now I am getting an error message that states I do not have enough disk space therefore the library is not saving. I am now locked out of downloading files from safari, or even itunes.
I am lost as to what to do next. please send me in the right direction. thank you!
    Welcome to the Apple forums:
Are you referring to the TimeMachine harddrive?
If you are referring to your internal drive, you may get more information in the Leopard Install and Setup forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219
In general you need to have at the very minimum, 10% or your HD free. Your drive may be completely full, depending on how large it is, which you don't say. The amount of freespace on an HD varies as the system swaps files on and off of it.
Be sure you have everything backed up, just in case.

  • E4200v2 Needs - - Added supports of 3TB Hard drive with NTFS and HFS+ format

I see this was addressed in the E4200v1 firmware, but isn't currently supported with v2.
Obviously this was something you deemed important once already, I don't understand why it wasn't automatically added into the features of V2.
Also, would it be possible to add a usb hub to allow multiple hard drives? If not adding that feature would be very beneficial as well.

Well, E4200 feature set is essentially the same as the E4200 v1. So it can recognize FAT32, NTFS, and HFS+ formats.
Second, E4200 v2 does not support usb hub within the network. So you need to wait for the further release of the new firmware which may add the support for the USB hub.

  • ELITE 8100 i5 - 3TB HARD DISK

    I have an i5 Elite 8100, Windows 7 Professional 64Bit, 4GB RAM 160GB Main HDD.
I was trying to add a WD 3TB as 2nd Drive, however the BIOS show the drive as 810GB and in windows 7 disk management it shows as New Volume 2048GB NTFS & 746.52 Unallocated.
I have the latest BIOS (1.05) and the latest drivers from Intel. Intel Rapid Storage Technology program that I have installed show it as 2.795 GB.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, I just can believe that an i5 PC can't see a 3TB drive.

  • Does the 790GX-G65 Support the new UEFI / Click-Bios

Hey Everyone! Does anyone know if the MSI 790GX-G65 supports the new UEFI / Click BIOS? I presume that if it does, I could use the forum's bios flashing tool to update it

Does anyone know if the MSI 790GX-G65 supports the new UEFI / Click BIOS?
    No.
The board uses old-style AMIBIOS8 coded BIOS releases.  There will be no UEFI (AMI Aptio coded) releases for this board.
Still, for BIOS Updates, >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<.

  • Thinking about upgrading my Powerbook G4 hard disk to 160GB

I am thinking about upgrading my powerbook G4 hard disk to 160GB, or even larger if possible...
I have checked the macsales.com website and found this seagate 160GB, is it a good choice? Can anyone suggest a better deal or a better choice...?
but I also notice one thing... it says that any powerbook model prior to 2003 might not support the any hard disk over 120G....
So I am wondering is my powerbook G4 15inch 1.25GHz SuperDrive model able to have a 160GB hard drive...?
    Thanks a lot!!!!!

The 1.25Ghz Powerbook came out in fall 2003, so if what MacSales says is true, then it should work.

  • Share a hard disk through Airport Extreme

We have 5 Macs (G5, iMac PPC and Intel / 10.4 5 and 6) on an Airport Extreme network. We use a common printer, but would like to have a common hard disk too.
We put a portable HD on the USB entry of the Airport, but it doesn't show.
In the Airport Utility, there is no icon for disks...
Doesn't the Airport with 502.11g support sharing a hard disk?

Yes, Kappy, that kind of flying saucer model.
    I'm afraid you're right.
    Thanks anyway...

  • Time Capsule Hard Disk Upgrade - how can I move old backup to new HD

Yesterday I bought a new 3TB hard disk to replace the old, internal time capsule 1TB hard disk. Then I placed the old one in a 3.5" USB case and tried to move the TM back-up from the old HD (now usb connected to the mac) to the new (now)-internal HD of the Time Capsule (connected with ethernet to the mac).
I'm using mavericks, and I followed this guide, but something went wrong and the migration stopped during the night, forcing me today to start a new backup from zero.
I deeply googled, looking for a guide that could explain how to complete the upgrade without a glitch, but there are infinite number of guide on how to change hard disk, while a totality of zero guides on how to complete the migration process after upgrading the internal HD.
Has someone succeeded in doing all the process?
    System Information:
              • • OSX Version - 10.9.1          • • Type of Mac - MacMini mid-2011
              • • What's being backed-up - 501,74 GB
              • • Backup Location - Time Capsule - WiFi (usually - but Ethernet during migration process) - 2nd generation, Model A1302 1TB (now 3TB).
P.S. Do you have any suggestion for "Impossible to convert __. Installa newer version of iWork." It happens all the time i try to move Backups.backupdb from a USB HD to a new one (yes, I remove the check mark from "Ignore ownership on this volume").

I don't see anything you have done wrong.
The fact that it started to copy the file and you left it running is fine.
Where things go wrong from there is anyones guess.. did the computer just decide to go to sleep?? Have you turned off sleep and any auto shut down. That can affect copying of large files.
Did you verify the sparsebundle.. any error or corruption in the old sparsebundle could prevent it copying.
    See A5 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
It could be later firmware which IMHO is just not stable.. I would run no later than 7.6.1 in an old TC.
And of course Mavericks.. it uses an major change of networking protocol.. and so it could just decide in the middle of the night that the TC is no longer there.
forcing me today to start a new backup from zero.
Can I just say.. this is a better idea anyway.
Put the old disk in a draw.. and simply keep it for 6months and if you never need it by then .. you can wipe it and use it for something else. A clean fresh TM backup is far more likely to work properly in case you need to do a recovery especially if you upgrade installed Mavericks.
