You need to get a few cans of air or find a compressor to blow the dust out.
And you probably want to do that outside, as a significant amount of dust can accumulate in the power supply.

i'm hearing a tick sound come from my macbook, im not sure what it is or why its doing it, can anyone help?

For one thing, that can be a serious hard drive issue. Do you have a recent backup of all your files? If not, I'd strongly recommend you do so immediately.

  • Humming sound coming from power supply after new battery update?!

i've heard of MB whining.. but not power supplies...
it's new with the latest battery update.
it stops when i touch the power supply.
it also stops when the processors rev up.
    is this normal??
it's annoying as ****, and it never used to do it.
    any help will do.

    Hi, Dan:
I don't have your model PC, so here are some generic instructions.
Turn on the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the F10 key to gain access to the BIOS.
There should be a menu to Save Defaults and Exit, when you go to exit the BIOS.
That is all there is to it.
I can't find your model number to give you the link to the audio driver from the support and driver page.
If you have the IDT audio chip, below is the latest driver for it.
Or let me know what model audio device you have and I'll see what I can find if it is not the IDT audio.

  • I put a case on my iPod touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  The head phones work though.  I called Apple Support and the 2 people I spoke with seemed baffled.  Has this happened to anyone and how do I resolve this?

I put a Griffin case on my daughter's iPod Touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  There is sound when we use the headphones.  Is there a mute function that I may have switched on and if so how do I turn it off?
It was a gift bought by her Godparents in January and I live in the islands so I can't just drive it back to the store to have them look @ it!
Called Apple Support and spoke to 2 people who seemed baffled and who could only suggest I reset the device.  Who h has not helped.
    HELP!!!!!!!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Sound coming from both speakers and headphones at the same time in probook 4440s

I have a Probook 4440s with windows 8 pro(64 bit) with IDT high definition codec installed. Yesterday when i was playing some songs i noticed that the sound was coming from both headphones and speakers even when my headphones are plugeed in and my lappy was having no such problems a few hours earliers while i was watching a movie. Please help..

It may be because you have both the internal speakers and headphones enabled at the sametime on your laptop. This might just happen automatically when you plug your headphones in. You need to manage your audio devices on your laptop.
Go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sounds> Manage Audio Devices> Playback Tab (which should already be selected)
In the playback tab there should be a list of all the audio devices you are using on your computer. Right click on the one you don't want to use and click disable. This should stop the sound coming from that audio device.
Remember: You will need to enable that audio device if you want to listen to sound through it again. Your internal speakers won't work once you enable them again. This might also be the case with your headphones. You may also have to do this every time your plug in a device or once you restart your computer.
Another note: Sometimes disabled devices will not show up on the audio device list so once you disable a device it will dissappear. This is an easy fix too. Just right click on an audio device and make sure show disabled devices and show disconnected devices is checked.
    I hope this helps.
(I was using a computer with Windows XP to explain the instructions but it should be similar with your Windows Operating System. You may however have to play around a little on your computer because it may be slightly different)

    Hi
It's likely your fan,  It always runs on a MBA.  Mine is very quiet, others report some noise - here is one link.  There are lots of others.
    Hope this helps

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • My daughters Ipod touch 2nd generation has been freezing today.  We have updated, restored etc and will not play any music as in no sound coming from it. It is almost fully charged and played ok 2 days ago. Any suggestions?

My Ipod touch 2nd generation has been freezing today.  We have updated, restored etc and now it will not play any music - as in no sound coming from it.  It looks as if it is playing, but no sound comes out. It played ok 2 days ago. Any suggestions?

So, here is an update to my original question, in case anyone else has this issue. I spoke with a senior adviser at apple, who had me use the "devmgmt.msc" command in the search line of Windows 7; after expanding the USB controllers menu, she had me uninstall/delete the "apple mobile device driver" and then open "control panel" and "uninstall programs." Once the menu of programs was open, she had me highlight the program "apple mobile device controller", then repair it, and restart the computer. This fixed the issue and the iPod synced.
However, just one day ago, when I plugged in both the iPod, then the iPad (not at the same time), I get the message that "this library has already been synced to another iPod/iPad or other IOS device." It then asked if I wanted to set up as a new device or from restore of previous. That is wher I am right now; I am trying to get the same apple adviser again to discuss the case number. More to follow.

  • Buzzing/whining sound coming from top left keyboard area...?

For a couple of months now (I think, I can't pinpoint when exactly this started), there has been an annoying buzzing/whining sound coming from the very top left part of my keyboard (I think). It happens when the computer is on and dies down once I turn it off but kind of does a very quiet "tick-tick" thing for a few minutes after shutdown. At first I thought it was the screen because it sounds like it's coming from the very bottom left corner of the screen (or the very top left corner of the keyboard, I can't tell)... but adjusting the brightness doesn't seem to affect it. It increases when I'm typing or moving the cursor and decreases when I'm not doing anything, but it's always present. I have checked my hard drive and everything's okay, so I'm not sure what it could be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Performance hasn't been affected (as of yet), so it's just more of an annoyance.
Another thing - for a while now (probably over a year), the screen has been flickering intermittently. It will go darker to lighter to darker to lighter quickly whether the screen has been on only a few minutes or several hours. This seems to have decreased lately, but maybe the two issues are related...?
I got my MacBook soon after they came out with the first black one, whenever that was.
    Thanks for your help!

Why not answer my question if you want help? Does your "ordinary keyboard that has midi capabilities" have a transpose function or a split keyboard mode that you may have accidentally activated? Did you try the solution I offered you?

  • Harsh rattling sound coming from fan.

Normally, when I use an application that requires a lot of CPU power or when I'm watching a YouTube video, the internal fan speeds up to 6000+ RPM but it started sounding weird the past week. Right when I "wake up" my MacBook from sleep, I here a faint rattling sound coming from where the fan should be but it disipates after a few minutes. When I view a video though, the rattling becomes a bit louder combined with the normal sound of the fan. Also, I noticed when I picked up my macbook when its fan was going fast and tilted it to its sides, the rattling sound corresponds with the movement of the computer (louder each time I tilted it left to right).
Could the fan be broken/loose? I sprayed some air into the keyboard to get rid of dust but nothing changed. I recently ran out of my Applecare warranty last September. Thanks in advance!

    Hey
Sorry to say but you could be looking at a hardware problem. That being said there are still things you can  try.
Try this artile: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 for an SMC reset.
If that does not work make sure all of your software is up to date. If it is, you may have a hardware problem.
Run the Apple hardware test that came on the disc with the computer to see if it comes up with anything... Although sometimes it doesn't even if there is a problem.
    Regards,
    Britt.

  • Why is there no sound coming from my Ipod speaker?

Why is there no sound coming from my ipod speaker?

    Do headphones work?
Do you have volume set to max?
You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem then it is likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Geniu Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • There is no sound coming from my ipod!!

Hi, I am using an itouch 2nd gen. and there is no sound coming from it when i attach my ear phones to it. I have reset the settings, restored it, switched it off many times, still nothing. The earphones are working just fine. Some help would be great!! Thanks!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod. Not clear if you did that type of restore
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Beep sound coming from FIOS Box.

Every 15 minutes, I hear beep sound coming from my Fios Box. What is wrong?

if it's the battery back up in your garage or basement, then it's probably time to replace the battery.  that normally is an alarm that the battery needs to be replaced.   in your TOS when you activate your fios it describes that verizon will take care of the battery for 1 year, and after 1 year you are responsible to replace it.
battery mart on the internet is the cheapest place I have found to replace it.  16 bux plus shipping.
    http://www.batterymart.com/p-12v-7ah-sealed-lead-acid-battery.html
    http://www.batterymart.com/p-12v-7ah-sealed-lead-acid-battery-f2.html
I don't know if it's an F1 connector or an F2 connector, so on the website they give you a little guide, and you can look at your battery and see which one it has.
if you installed within a year, then call verizon and they should send you a new one at no cost.
there is also an alarm silence button, but I am not sure how long it makes it a silent alarm for.  maybe a couple hours, maybe a couple days, someone else on here might be able to answer that.
