Tier and Container

I am wondering if there's any difference between Container and Tiers? The Web Tier for example consists of Servlets and JSP Pages, which are managed by the Web Container. That's a little bit confusing to me.

You can think of a container as a SW module that provides services and an environment for you to plug your application code into. As you mentioned the web container manages JSP and servlets that you write and deploy. The container provides a certain set of APIs and life cycle management to your application code.
A tier is just an arbitrary grouping of similar things or functions. For instance many people look at enterprise applications as three tiered applications, the pesentation tier, the business logic tier and the integration tier. When I hear web tier I just think of all the parts of the application that make up the web based technology pieces of an application, such as JSPs, servlets, static HTML and the associated pieces including HW pieces such as load balancers and such. The web container is something that lives in the web tier but it is not the only component that may live in that tier.

You see them where when you login your non-AOL account ?
If you currently have two accounts (the AOL username account and an email address account) then you will continue to have two accounts, and nothing should change when you update the AOL account to be an email address (apart from how you access that account).
You will just be renaming the account to have an email address for accessing it, not creating a new account.

It seems to take up to a couple of days for the upgrade to take hold, at least that's the experience of some users. Give it 24 hours before contacting apple.

The Java ResultList and Container objects are used in SAP Mapping UDF's ...does anyone know which specific jar files contain these object definitions ?

Ndata is new to Oracle 11g. Your other posts indicate that you are using Oracle 10g, so you don't have ndata, so you get an error when you try to use it. If you want to use the 11g features that enable context indexes with contains to do all of the things that ctxcat indexes with catsearch do, then you need to upgrade to 11g.
The online documentation is searchable. Most things regarding Oracle Text are contained in either the Oracle Text Reference or the Oracle Text Application Developer's guide.
I suggest that you start with something very simple, then build from there.

HashSet get() and contains() methods, by value or reference?

All the tutorials I've seen on HashSets use Strings as the object type. With Strings, it seems the get() and contains() methods work by value, not by reference.

The easiest way to explain this is, as you suggest, by an example. So I'll give you an example.
Let's suppose I'm going to write a piece of software that students at a school can use to find out what their current grade is in all their classes. I structure the program so that a database of grades resides on the server, and the application resides on the client (the computer the student is physically interacting with).
When the student wants to know his grades, he manipulates my program (by clicking buttons, menu options, etc). The program fires off a query to the database, and the database responds with all the student's grades. Now my application uses all this data to calculate the student's grade, and displays it for him.
This is an example of a 2-tier architecture. The two tiers are:
1. Data server: the database serves up data based on SQL queries submitted by the application.
2. Client application: the application on the client computer consumes the data and presents it in a readable format to the student.
Now, this architecture is fine, if you've got a school with 50 students. But suppose the school has 10,000 students. Now we've got a problem. Why?
Because every time a student queries the client application, the data server has to serve up large queries for the client application to manipulate. This is an enormous drain on network resources.
So what do we do? We create a 3-tier architecture by inserting another program at the server level. We call this the server application. Now the client application no longer directly queries the database; it queries the server application, which in turn queries the data server.
What is the advantage to this? Well, now when the student wants to know his final grade, the following happens:
1. The student asks the client application.
2. The client application asks the server application.
3. The server application queries the data server.
4. The data server serves up a recordset with all the student's grades.
5. The server application does all the calculations to determine the grade.
6. The server application serves up the final grade to the client application.
7. The client application displays the final grade for the student.
It's a much longer process on paper, but in reality it's much faster. Why? Notice step 6. Instead of serving up an entire recordset of grades, which has to be passed over a network, the server application is serving up a single number, which is a tiny amount of network traffic in comparison.
There are other advantages to the 3-tier architecture, but that at least gives you a general idea of how it works.
Incidentally, this website is a 3-tier application. The client application is your web browser. The server application is the ASP code which queries the database (the third tier) for the question-and-answer you requested.

Urgent! Application tier and Data tier on different platforms

I would be very grateful if someone confirms that the deployment of the Beehive, where Application tier and Data tier are placed on different platforms, is supported.

Using databases and container events?

I'm having trouble finding documents show how one should use databases and listen for container events? I'm using Berkley Java DB. I'll need all my remote object to have access to the database. How do I pass that in? Custom adapters? Also, when Tomcat shuts down I need to close the database, how would this be down? Custom adapters? So I may be answering my own question, but I'm asking cause I really don't see anything in the documentation that points this out. It really looks like I'd be using singletons and factories for this. I could register a Servlet or Servlet Context to listen for Tomcat events, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask others using Blaze, as I'm very new to it. Thanks.

So how would you tell Blaze to use this? Is there something you put into the config file? My thoughts on all this is to use PicoContainer to manage all services then create an adapter to inject all resources when creating remote objects. But this seems a little heavy if Blaze can do all this for me. The adapter seems like the injection point to me. Is that not what it's used for? Or is using it like that bad practice under Blaze? I've read all I can find on Blaze, so either it's missing docs, or I'm not finding them all. If I'm missing them, by all means let me know where to go. I don't want to ask questions that are already answered in documents else where.

You have to delete the iCloud account but you can keep all your data such as Contacts, Calendars etc. when you delete the account you will prompted to "Keep on my iPhone".
All your purchased content (like apps and music from iTunes Store) belongs to the original ID and you have to re-Purchase them under your Apple ID.
Photos in Camera Roll remains in Camera Roll.
Photos in photo stream that are not in Camera Roll must be saved in Camera Roll.
Photo that previously synced from iTunes remains in photo library until you synced with another iTunes library (another computer).
Also sign out from iMessages, FaceTime and Home sharing (Settings>Music)

Import and contain?

Hi,
My wife wants me to import a group of contacts she's compiled of invitees to a party we're throwing. The problem is twofold:
1) When I import her list, which contains some contacts I already have in my list, her duplicate contacts overwrite my existing ones, which is not good in cases where I have more detailed contact information for the person than she does. Is there a way to import her group without overwriting the duplicates using her info?
2) There are many contacts in this group that I'll want to delete from my contact list afterward, as my car takes all of my contacts via bluetooth, and I'd rather purge most of this group after the invites are sent. Is there a way to import these individuals and contain them for later deletion without having them added to my main contact list?

I'trying to optimize a query
with a sdo_filter and an intermedia_contains
on a 3.000.000 records table,
the query look like this

Patching mid tier and infrastructure tiers.

I am having some questions on patches and hope someone can help me here.
We have two Oracle Application Server machines both on Windows 2003 servers 32-bit and both are on 10.1.2.0.2 release.
The first machine is hosting HTTP Server, Forms (OC4J_BI_Forms), Reports, Webcache (Application/Mid tier). Release is 10.1.2.0.2
The second machine is hosting OID+Metadata repository, Single Sign-On, HTTP Server, and OC4J_Security (Infrastructure Tier). Release is 10.1.2.0.2.
I am now applying patches to both the servers.
Here are the steps I have:
1. Apply the Patch 4505133 on the Infrastructure (10.1.0.5 Patch Set)
2. Apply the Patch 5983622 on the Mid-tier. (10.1.3 patch set)
I have already completed step (1). I patched the infrastructure database from 10.1.0.4 to 10.1.0.5.
Am I missing the other step to patch Infrastructure tier components? Should I also patch the HTTP Server and the Oracle Home on infrastructure tier? I am not talking about the infrastructure database here. I am already done with that step.
If I only patch the Mid Tier with #5983622, then won't the mid tier will be on 10.1.3 release and infrastructure components (HTTP Server, SSO) will be on the same old 10.1.2.0.2.
The primary requirement is that I need to upgrade HTTP servers on both the tiers to the same level. Can you suggest me the equivalent of patch 5983622 for infrastructure tier and the way forward? Will appreciate any answers!!! TY.

I think u are mixing some things here.
In order to apply 5983622, u have to update database version is 10.1.0.4 to 10.1.0.5. (patch 4505133) That must be done before patching the two homes of Application Server.
Patch 5983622 is for Application Server. U have to apply it on Infrastructure Tier and on Application/Mid tier Home, in order to update Application Server from 10.1.2.2 to 10.1.2.3.
