Tiff file causing finder and preview to crash
Intially I thought there was something wrong with finder however it seems to be just in relation to a tiff file. Also crashes when opening with preview but photoshop 6 is fine. Below it the problem report from preview. Can anyone help? Thanks!
I've deleted the file completely and made a new copy from the psd but hasnt solved the proble. Also ran disk repair, deleted preferences for finder and emptied trah in safe mode as at one point I couldn't open or emty it.

Another suggestion is to downgrade Flash Player to 10.3 and see if it still crash or not. I noted how to uninstall current version and install older version in the other thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/922257?tstart=30
Let us know if older version work fine or stil crash. There is different code path between 10.3 and 11 so there might be chance that older one won't crash. I hope you can enjoy ESPN soon.

Can I delete files in "All My Files" under Finder and Favorites without deleting them in the actual folders? If they will be deleted from the original folders then how do I put them on the external hard drive to save the documents, photos, and videos?
Switch to the Finder app and open its preferences.
Remove the check mark on the items you don't want displayed in the Sidebar tab.
The originals are not removed from the machine. -
I've downloaded Flip4Mac and set as the default player by clicking on a wmv file in Finder and clicking Command I. Nothing is working, Help please.

I have just transferred all my raw, jpeg & tiff files into LR4 and using the opportunity to delete old raw files to free up disc space. How can i completely remove a raw file from my mac disc??
I'd be careful here: LR references files. It can copy them, like from an SD card to your hard drive, but it doesn't necessarily make duplicates. So when you say you "transferred" those files "into" LR it just means you referenced existing files. And if you delete those they're gone, unless you've made copies. LR does not import files by copying them into a managed library like Aperture does.

The Finder and previews of files in cover flow
Just looking at the Leopard video. When I go to the finder and have the cover flow options selected, I don't see any previews of anything on my folders. The folders all have generic names. Nothing like the video tour on apple website. I can't see a preview of something in a folder, let alone play a preview of a movie in one like they do on the video tour. Am I missing something here???
I fixed my problem for the crappy looking .jpegs in cover flow now i want my folders to look good with the icons i gave them example i put the first .jpeg of the folder as a icon on the folder so I know what is in that folder. I did this along time ago but the icons look like crap. Can this be fixed? I thought cover flow showed the 1st file in the folders on cover flow?

ACSM files cause Adobe Digital Editions to crash
So, I've been reading these forums trying to find an answer, but I haven't read about someone with the same problem. (If you know of a discussion where a solution was already posted, please link me if possible.) So, I decided to post this issue and see if anyone has some ideas about what to do.
I'm running OS 10.6.8 and the most recent Adobe Digital Editions. ADE can open/download some acsm files perfectly fine. However, for many, the application unexpectedly quits as soon as I try to open the acsm file. I know it's not the file, since I can send the file to someone else who uses the same computer and ADE version, and he can open the acsm just fine. I also know it's probably not ADE itself or my connection/firewall/etc., since I can open/download other acsm files perfectly fine. However, there seems to be a large number of acsm files that simply won't work for me and cause ADE to quit unexpectedly. Like I said, these same files work for someone else running the same version of ADE. Where should I look for the problem? These are not public library books. I do research at a graduate school, and these are ebooks that my school has paid for (the tech people there have been unable to help me). The person I sent the acsm files to test is not part of the institution, and yet he can still open the acsm files that I downloaded but can't open. So, I don't think it has to do with authorization either.
Does anyone have some trobleshooting suggestions beyond what I've just enumerated? Yes, I have uninstalled it and redownloaded it several times, along with essentially every other suggestion I've read on the forums, and still, many acsm files simply cause ADE to unexpectedly quit. If someone really wants, I can paste the entire error message that's given when it unexpectedly quits.
Thanks for any help.I have the 4.0.3 version and when i open the ACSM I get the "fulfilling license" window and then it crashes. i have uninstalled, reinstalled, authorized & deauthorized ADE. I tried to use my Overdrive account ID to authorize ADE, but when i downloaded a book, i got an error message so i deauthorized and authorized under my ADE. i have a mac with OX SY Yosemite version 10.10.2 .

Colormanagement in Finder and Preview
I received today a TIFF file frm a customer which was separated to CMYK with a ICC profile embedded. I took a look to it in finder with quicklook shortcut and was wondering because that image looked a bit loss od contrast, no real blacks in there. As I opend the file in Photoshop CS 2, the contrast came back.
I opend that file in Preview and Color Utilities and in all states the images didn't look as it should. It seems, that colormanagement doesn't work correct as it should. I gave it another try and made a softproof in Preview, but either profile I selected, the images didn't change.
Anyone has this too or may I have some trouble with my OS system?Hmm, I had before the update a own calibrated profile made with xrite dtp94 and basiccolor software. But that won't really work because of the old gamma 1.8 of Mac OS before snow leopard. So switched to the cinema hd profile that came with 10.6 which should indeed use the correct gamma of 2.2. But I see some delay when I select another profile for monitor and sometimes it doesn't change at all.

The story before the problem:
I tried to defrag my MacBook (core2duo) with Techtool Pro and it failed, then MacBook didn't boot in normal or safe mode.
Disk utility reported error but refused to correct it, fsck -fy in single mode didn't help too and failed before finishing the repair process.
I used Disk Warrior 4.1 to repair the hard disk and it did the job pretty good and after repair MacBook could be boot again.
Now another problem happened and keeps occurring.
The problem:
After finally booting the MacBook I found that I can't use the system because there is no menu bar, dock appears and disappear in just second repeatedly and desktop icons too. (also I noticed that desktop background has been changed to OS X 10.5 default)
So I think that problem is finder crash (that cause also dock crash) that is happening in only 2 seconds again and again and makes the system unusable even for troubleshooting purposes.
What I did before this post (and problem exist yet!):
1- Safe boot
2- cmdoption+fo to reset
3- cmdoption+pr to pvram reset
4- running disk utility from leopard dvd and repaired permissions. (also it reports hdd is ok)
5- made another user and logged in to new user,
surprisingly the new user works just fine and without any problem. (cause I thought it should be a system wide issue)
6- deleted finder .plist
7- moved the .plist folder of old user (after I found that it wouldn't help it has been returned)
8- reinstalled the 10.5.2 combo update
these steps didn't solve the problem. and yet my old user keeps crashing on finder and the new one is works pretty good.
If there is any way to solve this problem (except OS reinstall or deleting the bad user and transfer to new one) please guide me.
the problem is I really don't want to deal with all the data transfer and customization process again! I have all my data in the old user and yes I can transfer all data and files from there but I will be happy if I can do anything else.

About the mess Techtool Pro 4.6.1 made, from 1995 until last year that I moved to Mac (by a MacBook) I guess I did defragmentation, in average, every week on 6 different machines with almost every version of microsoft's OS from dos 5 to windows xp sp2, and never ever something like this happened to me! I even don't remember that windows asked me about making backup just for defrag! Isn't it mucking to make a 50GB backup everytime you are going to do a defrag!
and about that Techtool Pro mucking stuff I should say that it is the worst piece of software I have ever seen. this state f the art! program said that there is a minor problem in the HDD and it should fix it before defrag, after I said go ahead it mucked my HDD but said that the minor problem fixed! but refuses to defrag again cause this time it found a major problem and recommended to try another fixing routine in the program and after that I found my HDD totally mucked up! impressive specially for a software that claims to solve problems others can't.
Any way at the end there is some moral lessons in this story!
1-Don't use Techtool Pro to fix your HDD, you can use it on your bad guys computer to muck them up but not on your computer!
2-Always backup, and also backup your backup if possible.
3-Don't ever think that you can do something here because you did it successfully some where else!

Viewing animated GIFs in the Finder and Preview
I was wondering why my animated gif images do not play while I view them in the preview in the Finder or Preview. I know it plays when I view gifs in Explorer and was wondering why doesn't the Finder/Preview.
I would really like to be able to view the animated gifs without having to open either Safari or Fire Fox to view them.

Apparently Preview lost that functionality a few versions ago. And Quicklook also doesn't seem to do it. Someone said that Pathfinder plays them, http://www.cocoatech.com.
If you don't want to use a "big" program like Safari or Quicktime, then your best bet is to use a quick and easy image viewer like Xee http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/xee.html.
Set it as default application by selecting a gif file, press cmd-I. Choose Xee under Open with and click Change all.

Opening or saving files cause Illustrator 5.1 to crash, Feb 2011 MBP, Lion
I have the Creative Suite 5.5. Illustrator starts, but trying to open (.ai or .pdf) or save a file causes it to crash
I have deleted the preferences folder
used uninstaller to uninstall complete Creative Suite package. Used Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.app afterwards. Reinstalled. Still it crashes.
Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro all seem fine.

I did the unintall of just Illustrator and removed Preferences, however following directions the Cleaner Tool would not just clean for Illustrator. the XLM file it produced did not list Illustrator separately, nor any Suite compenent, just Creative Suite (XLM listed below). So I just uninstalled the whole suite, rebooted, then went back to the Cleaner Tool. I tried to used the terminal command
sudo /PDHilman's Path to Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool ‐‐removeAll=CS5
But that gave an error message silent mode only worked for CS5.5 or below and went back to the GUI (odd). I then used the Cleaner Tool GUI and removed all CS5 - CS5.5. The log file is also below.
I went into my library and there were still many CS5 - CS5.5 items under Application Support and Preferences! For example com.adobe.illustrator.plist.lockfile
I then reinstralled the whole suite.
STILL ILLUSTRATOR CRASHES WHEN TRYING TO OPEN A FILE.
I note, I think the last thing I did before this started was followed some directions to copy Mathematica fonts into my user library so I wasn't missing some math symbols when editing PDFs created with Mathematica. But that was successful and I was able to open/edit/save them just fine.

Best practice bringing Illustrator files into Fireworks and preview gradients
One of my students has created a series of Illustrator documents she has File >Imported into Fireworks. The .ai documents look fine in Fireworks,
but the background gradients in the .ai documents severely band when she previews the Fireworks file in IE and Firefox. She has tried saving the .ai files as high quality jpeg and PNG files, but the banding in the Preview is severe regardless of quality she selects. I have checked her output quality in Illustrator, and it is at 300 ppi. We currently have Fireworks CS4. Is there any solution to this?

Katie SternAs long as the images are displaying at the correct size in pixels, output resolution isn't a huge deal. As for the banding, make sure the graphic is being exported as PNG 24 - not PNG 8. You may need to slice the area and export it separately depending on how the design is layered. Prior to CS5, jpeg export could produce banding in certain situations.
If you can, please share the PNG with us so we can look into things in more detail. -
Editing TIFF files from camera and saving as JPG
I have searched extensively for this and feel like it must be answered somewhere but haven't found it. Call me an idiot.
I have a camera that can save a picture as a tiff and jpg files simultaneously.
When I open the tiff file in PE2 it is strange. It something like a negative and strange colors. In addition, it seems to have a small portion from the right side that has moved to the left side of the picture.
Does this mean there is something wrong with the tiff files?
I have tried opening it and saving as jpg. Then opening the jpg just shows the same strange image.
Do I need a newer version of PE?
ThanksWell I found something finally on the internet. Apparently it is a problem with the 2GB SD card in my Panasonic FZ20 properly storing the file. I will have to look into it more. The card is an Ultra II San Disk. The sorry part is that the accompanying jpg is much smaller than if I taken the picture as jpg to start with.

Dragging files cause finder to crash and restart
I've noticed when I'm moving files either from a folder to attach on a e-mail or moving files from one folder to another finder crashes and immediately restarts. I can then move the files no problem until I move on to another task and come back to move a file.
I can copy or cut and paste files fine it just seems to be a problem when you begin dragging the file.I have the same problem, had Total Finder installed thinking it was the problem. Now with a fresh install its the same.
It happens when i haven't used Finder for a while, trying to move a file and Finder just restarts.
I also happens when my LaCie USB 3.0 discs is starting up from sleep.
Looking in the activity log errors i see:
