TIFF file from PSD

Does saving a PSD file to a TIFF file format destroy or otherwise do anything to the pixels and/or quality of the file? I'm asking because I user Silverfast to scan in to PS CS5 Extended and when I saved each scan I did so as a PSD thinking it is the best option. But now the issue is that I can't edit the PSD file with Camera Raw which seems to have much better global options to fix image issues.

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

ACR purportedly has the correct "workflow" (not quite, but certainly better than PS). Another advantage of ACR is that it won't modify the original, so that is kind of good too.
LOL, define "correct 'workflow'".  It's impossible.  Anyone claiming to have a "correct" workflow is deluding themselves and possibly others.  It's even quite possible to challenge the term "better".
There are people teaching that doing image editing actually IN Photoshop is somehow "bad".  Keep in mind they make money by teaching, not by getting results with Photoshop.
And your statement that ACR "won't modify the original" is literally true because ACR isn't an editor in itself and does not have a "Save As" capability.  However, if you open a TIFF file with it into Photoshop, then do File-Save you WILL overwrite the original.
My point is this:  There's a lot of "accepted dogma" in the Photoshop realm that sounds really right.  Just be wary of it, and try to understand what it really means in your own context, because it simply isn't always right.  There is no "right".  There's too much art involved to even define "right"
Most things you can do in Camera Raw you can do in Photoshop proper.  I agree that Camera Raw does give you different ways to do things, which may well be more understandable.

  • Process TIFF file from FTP server using File/FTP adapter

    Hi,
I have a requirement to process a scanned document TIFF file from a directory on an FTP server using the File/FTP adapter and process through XI into a Web Service via a receiver SOAP adapter.
My question is can the file/FTP adapter be used to process the TIFF file into XI from an FTP server ? Also, what settings need to be made on the file adapter to allow this file to be processed into XI ?
    Thanks in advance

  • I cannot open TIFF files from Image Capture

I cannot open color TIFF files from Image Capture. I can open the Black and White files though. I tried with Quick Time with the same result as with Preview. I never had this kind of trouble before.
I tried the coarser resolution and the 8 bits to make the picture smaller. No dice.
I tried the same thing with my other Mac with the same results. Could it be the scanner?

  • Tiffs saved from PSD are corrupted

I've been trying to find an answer for this for over a week. It shouldn't be that hard to find info on a problem that must be affecting other people who have PS or PSE.
I've been saving tiffs from PSDs for 2 years with no problems. (I draw, color in PSE, then save as both a PSD and a tiff.) Two weeks ago an editor told me she couldn't open my files. Then I discovered that mpst of my tiffs I've made since then are broken. If the image has layers, the tiff can still be opened in Picasa view and PSE, but no windows program. If the image file has been flattened, you can open it with any program, but it is squished to a square instead of a rectangle, and seems to have a lot of vertical lines in it and has been washed out with faint color.
In any case, my editors need tiffs to print, and I need every tiff to be opened by any program! Any suggestions? Did something in my PSE go horribly wrong? Right before they went bad, I did download the new Picasa 3 and Windows Live Gallery, because I read that they both have good tagging, and before (if) I upgrade to PSE 8, I wanted to check out their tagging and organization abilities. Perhaps they affected how PSE works?!
I read here I could reload defaults. I did. Should I change something in tiff preferences, or...what?

How do I check off Not Helpful? from employee Garry. NO reply in 2 weeks.
I think I may have solved this myself, and it's a glitch in PSE, or there's something with saving a lasso that I don't know about. I never learned I could save a lasso or marquee until I started reading a book on PSE 5, so when I started trying this out, I can no longer make a tiff from that file - I mean it says it made it, but it's corrupted, like the one I attached here weeks ago, or sometimes it's only a partial image, what I had used the saved selection for.
And since I always have to make tiffs, this means I'll never be able to use the save and load selection feature. Big bummer.
Also, another issue I noticed recently: I signed into the organizer from the opening splash page for the first time. (For 2 years I've only opened PSE with an image.) There is an automatic trigger in Organizer that starts scanning or doing something behind the scenes from then on, even when PS is OFF. For 2 days my very large CPU was ratcheted up like 50%, making a really annoying sound, and I was on deadline. I finally saw it in my processes - sorry, forget the name of the exe - looked up every exe in there, and finally found out you have to turn off something in Organizer so it won't operate continually. That's a huge problem.

  • How do I resolve issues with missing layers when opening a Tiff file from Photoshop CS5.1?

I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue. Any recommendations?

Thanks Curt... I don't think my explanation was clear. I'm downloading an image from an external webiste. The image downloads in a ZIP archive. After extracting from the Zip file, I go into photoshop and do file open. Only part of the image appears. It looks as if it's the top layer of a photoshop image but since I didn't build the image, I'm not certain it was built with multiple layers. Any ideas?

  • Opening TIFF files from Safari mail

I have a Mini.mac using OS X 10.3.9 and am unable to open TIFF files. I am particularly interested in opening TIFF attachments from my E-mails. I have downloaded Graphic Converter but can't get it to do the job, neither will Preview. Can anyone please tell me whether there is an easy way to make my machine open TIFF files? And if so, a simple explanation (because I'm a simple man) of how to do it would be greatly appreciated.

kbwolf, you'll probably want to go to http://www.mactopia.com to do a search for issues with PowerPoint, Excel and Word as those are Microsoft products.

  • Editing TIFF files from camera and saving as JPG

I have searched extensively for this and feel like it must be answered somewhere but haven't found it. Call me an idiot.
I have a camera that can save a picture as a tiff and jpg files simultaneously.
When I open the tiff file in PE2 it is strange. It something like a negative and strange colors. In addition, it seems to have a small portion from the right side that has moved to the left side of the picture.
Does this mean there is something wrong with the tiff files?
I have tried opening it and saving as jpg. Then opening the jpg just shows the same strange image.
Do I need a newer version of PE?
    Thanks

Well I found something finally on the internet. Apparently it is a problem with the 2GB SD card in my Panasonic FZ20 properly storing the file. I will have to look into it more. The card is an Ultra II San Disk. The sorry part is that the accompanying jpg is much smaller than if I taken the picture as jpg to start with.
See the following link if you have a similar problem.

  • Compression a tiff file from 25 MB to 2-3 MB by lwz

I need help. I am trying to compress a tiff file (CMYK) using lwz format.
The size of the file is 25 MB. Photoshop (CS5) compressed it to a 19 MB-file.
I need to compress the file to at leats 2-3 MB size. Any one how to do it?

Bypassing the portion of the file is not a option in my case since a part
of the program reads the bytes and performs operation on the image when it
    reads 8bim.
The image if re-saved in Photoshop gets the required metadata. (Can be seen
    by using imagemagik's identify utility)
Only option that I have is to write the information for the resource in
side the Image resource block tag.
How am I suppose to write this resources when I am using BitmapMetadata
    class?

  • Minilab won't read .tiff file from Aperture

When Aperture exports a TIFF file it gives it the .tiff (rather than .tif) extension. Our local professional minilab uses an Agfa D-Lab 2 machine, and apparently this will not read files with a .tiff extension. The lab had to rename all the files on their PC first to give them a .tif extension.
Is there a way of getting Aperture to export files with .tif extension? Or do we have to rename all the files after export before submitting to the minilab? Thanks for any advice!

The .tiff extension is something Apple has needed to fix ASAP for a long time. It gets in the way of a proper workflow. When clients receive .tiff files and they work on them in Photoshop they'll end often end up with .tiff.tif files after they are saved. Very annoying and it probably makes the photographer look sloppy in the clients' eyes.
I've tried the automator route and it doesn't work because it will not rename the extension. You can batch the files in Photoshop, save them as tif's, they'll then be ".tiff.tif" and then use a program like iView to extract the ".tiff" and replace it with nothing so that you end up with the the file_name and the .tif extension. IOW, a tiff named as it should be.
I haven't tried it yet but I may pick up this software, A Better Finder Rename. http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html It says it will rename the file extension and it will do it as a batch. Could be a lifesaver until Aperture fixes the .tiff issue.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 won't recognize alpha channel in .tiff file from photoshop

    Hey Everyone,
I'm new to Premiere Pro, but I have used Final Cut Pro 6-7. Anyway, I created a 3D text design in Photoshop to use on top of another photo in a video in Premiere. In Photoshop, the alpha channel appears fine. In Premiere Pro it is not recognized. Instead, a white background appears where the alpha channel should be. When I layered the 3D text on top of a photo (in Premiere Pro), the white still appears around the 3D text design. After I imported the file, I did click on the .tiff file and clicked on modify---->interpret footage----->alpha channel (where I deselected ignore alpha channel). Premiere Pro still does not recognize the alpha channel. Should I convert the Photoshop file to another format or is there something I'm not doing? I'm spending more time trying to figure this out than I am on putting this short video/photo slide show together. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks Ann!!! Seriously, you just saved me hours of aggravation. I didn't know I had to select that in Photoshop. I was under the impression that Adobe product files were seamless.

  • Opening files tiff files from desktop always open with Camera Raw with Photoshop 2014

Why do my desktop tiff files which in the previous version of PS CC, opened directly into Photoshop (File>Open), but with PS 2014 always open into Camera Raw first? Is there a setting/preference that needs to be changed?

    Preferences - Camera Raw...
Under JPEG and TIFF handling, change to "Disable TIFF support" to have images open straight into Photoshop.
Edit:  R_Kelly, you beat me to it.

  • How do you change the color of a jpeg or tiff file (from b/w to color)?

I recently was given Creative Suite 5 so I can create ads, flyers, etc.  I am trying to change our logo from a black and white to PMS 541 Blue.  I was able to change the text color, but for some reason it will not stick to the images.  Most of the graphics/logos I use are jpegs, tiffs or eps files.   I am still learning PS, but so far I have found it hard to use and would appreciate any help so I can at least get this very easy flyer out.  Will definetly be a regular on this forum until I can figure it out. Thanks in advance for any help.

...If I did define my PMS Spot Channel then I did it by accident
You can tell if you have defined it by looking at your Channels palette. I would wager that it is not there based on your description.

As you have the suite, you might look at using Illustrator for logos. Photoshop is rarely used for logos.

  • How do I associate a scanner's icc profile with the TIFF files from scanning old slides?

I profiled my slide scanner and have an icc profile for that scanner. In Photoshop I can assign that profile to those files obtained by scanning slides in that scanner. Can I do something functionally equivalent inside Lightroom?

This is totally off on a tangent, so feel free to ignore:
After struggling with slide scanning on an Epson V500 for years, and generally getting lousy results (loads of chromatic aberration, poor detail resolution despite plenty of pixels, and bad color) - I decided to try to photograph them. The setup is simple. D800, Micro-Nikkor 105mm with extension tube (but any macro that goes 1:1 should do), small piece of diffusing plastic, flash backlight. And some tape to hold it all together.
    Wow.
The result is razor-sharp with all the fine detail I have always missed, totally clean from CA, and with a few quick Lightroom adjustments it's there. Previously I had to bring them into Photoshop and spend hours.
The scanner is outside my window if anyone needs it...

  • Please, how do I convert an automatically ',tiff' file (From using GRAB to save a picture!) - to a .jpg file?

When I use Grab on my iMac (OSX 10.6.8) the picture put on my desktop is in ".tiff"!
How do I covert it instead to .jpg - (for sending as email attachments?) PLEASE?

Preview will convert it. Right-click, open with Preview (if it doesn't automatically launch) then save as jpeg.
