TIFF Files All Black

I have created several projects with slideshows using .tif files and then have converted some of them into tracks. In the past they worked well.
Now, any of the slideshows or trackes that have a .tif file only shows as black. The original .tif files are fine and the look good when I look at them in another program, but DVDSP doesn't seem to recognize them.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Thanks!
Mike

A shot in the dark: are all your images RGB?
Hope that helps !

  • Opened file all black

    when I try to open a file or document in safari on my mac 10.6 and then try to open it with Adobe Reader, I get the message, Adoby Reader could not open because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged(for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). Is there any solution to this problem? I have tried to send recommendations to universities with a pdf. or doc. file but when I open the school application the file appears all black.

    i only heard of these as special seed devices and not for sale yet that I have seen.

  • Importing TIFF files (Portrait) into iPhoto '11

    Since upgrading from iLife '09 to iLife '11, I can't import portrait photos in TIFF format into iPhoto! JPEG versions work fine but as most of my photos are TIFF I'm left with a lot of photos that I can't see/use. Landscape photos are fine.
    I'm using a Nikon D300 camera. I have 2 iMacs and a Mac Book - all running Mac OS X vers. 10.6.8 - and they all have the same problem.

    I had a similar problem, which I suspect is going to be off little help if trying to get photos into the mac from a camera.
    I had all my pics on a USB drive external to my old windows machine. When I moved to a mac I started to import into iPhoto 11. The only images I could not load were portrait tiff files, all of which have an Orientation: 8 (Rotated 90° CW) setting as oposed to Orientation: 1 (Normal).
    Fortunately I have Photoshop which will open them, so open and save as does the trick. I suspect there's a setting in the camera to turn off auto rotation which is what I'll try next before I try to load my next set.
    I'm using a D300s so if I can solve this it should work for the D300 also.

  • TIFF and JPG Files Are Black?

    I have posted this question twice before but didn’t get it resolved. I really need to get some help on this.
    I have some old projects that I use in the classroom while I am teaching. They are TIFF images and often have sound clips with them. I create slideshows and then convert them to tracks. This has been working really well.
    Suddenly, all TIFF or JPG files are black. Old files in old projects and new ones I import are all black. PICT files are okay and I am doing new projects using them, but I cannot go back and edit old projects because all of the TIFFs are black.
    Can anyone figure out why this happened and how to resolve the issue?
    Thanks!
    Mike

    I have seen this when I save over a graphic while the fcp project is still open. The tifs come back inside fcp when I restart the app then trash my render files. If these are really old fcp projects try disconnecting your media (the tif and jpeg files), trashing your render files then reconnecting your media using the locate tool.

    If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
    The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
    Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

    What kind of TIFFs?  Are they multi-layered, for instance?  ACR will not open layered files.

    Back up all data.
    Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Black and white conversion of tiff files in pse6

    I like the "convert to black and white" utility in pse, but was disheartened to discover that it doesn't seem to work with tiff files. Also, the "adjust smart fix" and "auto red eye" options are not available with tiff files either. Is there a way around this?

    Geoff the kiwi wrote:
    How does the OP's green/magenta colouring equate to your stated red/cyan?
    Well, it looks cyan to me. Here it is with saturation boost - assuming the OP made the screenshot correctly, assigning the display profile:
    In any case, the Photoshop bug is well known and well documented, showing up as cyan shadow banding in ProPhoto files, when GPU is set to "Normal" or "Advanced" mode.
    I'm not saying the display profile isn't involved, it most certainly is. The whole issue is the conversion into the display profile. And it also shows to varying degree with different display profiles - sometimes just subtle cyan bands, easily missed until you look for it, other times more pronounced and with secondary red banding (like here).
    It also happens with sRGB as display profile. So the bug is real, no question about that.
    What's different here is that there's cyan also in the highlights. But that could be the screenshot - or it could be "just" a bad display profile. I'm not ruling that out, just pointing out that there is a more likely explanation in this case.

  • Indesign CS3 - Changing file from all black to a pantone color

    Is there an easy way to change an all black file to a specific pantone color in Indesign CS3? I've ran into this plenty of times after setting up an all black job and then the customer decides they want to see on the laser printer what it would look like in a specific pantone color. I've always had to go into each photo and text block separately to do this.

    One way is to build jobs like this using a custom black ink defined as CMYK 0,0,0,100 and then all you should have to do for all elements created in IND is delete the black spot and substitute with your new spot.
    Check with your printer, but in general they'll almost certainly prefer a black file to a "spot" file. So if this is just one page you can always kick out a quick PDF, rasterize in PS and place into IND, painted as the new spot. I've never been burned with this workflow, but understand that the client signs off on a proof that is a couple steps away from the file that will go to press.
    I'm sure you can also export to PDF and use Acrobat's convert color utility to get what you want, but I wouldn't know how to go about it. [ed] And fiddled, and still couldn't figure it out.

  • Saved files in illustrator turn into all black when viewing

    Hi All,
    I've searched through the forums + google but haven't been able to get an answer on why this is happening.  Sometimes when I save files as a pdf in Illustrator, or receive files from other people the image loses it's colour.
    All colour is just black.  I'm attaching a screen shot so you can see what I mean, the colours here are supposed to be a shades of a PMS colour, but instead they're all black.
    Hopefully someone can help!
    Thanks in advance.
    Jo

    You should never view any PDF in any other program than Acrobat or Reader. All other viewers support only a subset of PDF standards, so they are not reliable viewer program.
    The Word thing has nothing to do with Illustrator or PDF. You need to know,
    in which program the Word embedded graphic was created.
    how the graphic was saved as. Not every file type, which can be imported on Word in Windows is supported completely on the Mac, like EMF, WMF, but also other file types. (The other way round is also true.)
    How the graphic was imported. Some people copy an image or a graphic from a source and paste it via clipboard. Which is not a good way, because it needs several system ressources from the local computer to show up in the host application, in that case in Word. If such a document is opened on a different computer, often even on the same Operating System, those images show up black. The only correct and robust way to import images in Word is via the Insert-Command or button with a compatible file selected.
    Another problem might be, that an image or graphic was inserted in a version which creates docx files, like 2007 or 2010.Those versions support more graphic file types than older versions do. But because some people think, it is better to save files as DOC than as DOCX (smae with PowerPoint or Excel) for compability those images get lost and are only represented as black boxes. In my experience it happens often with PNG-24 files. It is never a good idea to save DOCX back to DOC. I inerit only problems with that workflow. (Also when I import files into InDesign I get always messed up with footnotes with this method, several get lost, several change their reference with each other, I have got DOCs where not even 1 of 400 footnotes was on its original place after import to InDesign. But this is another topic, but it is also an argument to avoid this workflow!)

  • Problem displaying TIFF BufferedImage. It's all black.

    Hello,
    I am new to Java2D and I have a problem. I have a BufferedImage, bi1, created from a RenderedOp object (containing a grayscale TIFF image). I now would like to copy a part of bi1 to another BufferedImage, bi2. Creating and displaying bi1 works fine, but when I try to display bi2 it's all black. Since that is the default background color of BufferedImage, I guess this meens that my copying wasn't successful.
    So my question is: How do I set the data in bi2 correctly?
    Thanks in advance.
    My code looks something like this:
    FileSeekableStream stream = null;
    try {
    stream = new FileSeekableStream(args[0]);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.exit(0);
    ParameterBlock params = new ParameterBlock();
    params.add(stream);
    TIFFDecodeParam decodeParam = new TIFFDecodeParam();
    decodeParam.setDecodePaletteAsShorts(true);
    RenderedOp image = JAI.create("tiff", params);
    int tiff_width = image.getWidth();
    int tiff_height = image.getHeight();
    BufferedImage bi1 = image.getAsBufferedImage();
    BufferedImage bi2 = new BufferedImage(tiff_width, (int)Math.round(tiff_height*0.35), BufferedImage.TYPE_BYTE_GRAY);
         bi2.getRaster().setRect(bi1.getData(new Rectangle(0,(int)Math.round(tiff_height*0.65),tiff_width,(int)Math.round(tiff_height*0.35))));
    ScrollingImagePanel panel = new ScrollingImagePanel(bi2, tiff_width, tiff_height);
    Frame window = new Frame("");
    window.add(panel);
    window.pack();
    window.show();

    The BufferedImage class has method
    public BufferedImage getSubimage(int x, int y, int w, int h);
    Probably you might use it
    bi2=bi1.getSubImage(0,0, newWidth,newHeight);
    hope this helps

    Even though I have checked "Automatically open all supported TIFF's" in Camera RAw Preferences - My tiff files do not open up in camera RAW - PS 6

    Sorry I'm taking to along, but I checked a few things using ACR 8.6
    Saved a png as an 8 bit tiff, then to 16 bit. Changed the background layer into a floating layer, all opened in ACR.
    It was when I added an adjustment layer, that it no longer opened in ACR.
    Now what can I recommend? If you have Lightroom, you can Import and work on your layered tiffs that way. I hope this is a viable alternative for you, because I think ACR does have a problem with layered tiffs and I don't really know of any workaround, but you are free to explore.
