Tiff won't open in CS3

Photoshop CS3 (Windows) crashes when I open one particular Tiff.  Two others created by the same person/system open just fine.  Help?

Someone very knowledgable about TIFF would have to look at the structure of the file.
It also helps if that someone has access to the Photoshop source code, like I do.

  • .inx won't open in CS3

I've been having a recurring problem of having .inx files that won't open in a freelancer's InDesign CS3. I tried opening the files I sent her on CS3 at my house and I ran into the same thing (I'm fully updated and have the latest version of InDesign CS3 running v. 5.0.4.) The first time this happened, I didn't get a chance to troubleshoot, we just worked around it with pdf's. This time I did some experimenting.
I created three more .inx files...one I made a non-printing layer a printing layer thinking that could be problem, another I totally deleted that layer, and the last I cut and pasted everything into a new document and then exported another .inx. None of them worked on either of our CS3 programs.
Next I had my boss create an .inx file and send it too the freelancer…this didn't work either.
I didn't use any GREP in my styling. The file itself is pretty simple. There aren't any new to CS4 features that I'm using.
This is the second time I've had to go back and forth with the freelancer over this issue, and it's getting to be a bit disruptive to our workflow.
It should be noted. Not all .inx files aren't working. I sent one home of a personal project, and that one opened just fine. If I knew what was wrong with my file, then I maybe I could avoid this in the future. Could it be .indd files converted to CS4 from CS2 and then exported to .inx won't open?

Of course…I forgot. It gives the error message, and I'm paraphrasing, "file may already be open, there may be a missing plug-in, or InDesign may not support the file format." That's off the top of my head, but I'm sure you're familiar with it.
I did email them to her…and now that you mention it, the .inx that did work was sent in gmail, the one's that didn't were sent by the web version of Outlook. I think you might be on to something! I'll re-export the file and send it too her zipped.

  • Old format won't open in CS3

I have an old format files that won't open in either 1.0 or CS3.  Any hints? or do I have to find Version 1.5 or 2.0 to open.  Only want to create a PDF from them.
    thanks

What happens when you try to open them?
    What's the file extension?
Old version files normally open just fine in newer versions unless they are corrupt.

  • Recovered CR2 files won't open with CS3

Hey, I need help with this!
I worked in a photoshoot with a Canon EOS Rebel XSi and SD memory; then I had troubles trying to download them because the memory wouldn't let me do it, so I used the 'PC Inspector Smart Recovery' and I recovered all my CR2 files indeed. BUT! some of them won't open with Photoshop CS3, most of them do, but there's just some others that won't open and I really need to get this job done
My camera files always worked perfectly with photoshop CS3, plugins are installed, I really don't know what went wrong.

I am having a similar problem.  I downloaded CR2 files from my camera to my computer and CS3 Bridge will not recognize the files, allow me to open in Camera Raw or open in CS3 Photoshop.  I also stuck the same memory card in a Lexar mem card reader and attempted to download to my Mac in CS4 Bridge and that version of Photoshop and Bridge won't recognize the files either, however the CR2 files do appear, where I can view the thumbnails, in iPhoto.  All original files are still on the memory cards (4 cards worth of wedding photos!).  I've downloaded Camera Raw updates for both cs3 and cs4 on my windows pc and my mac and still no luck.  I'm at my witts end! Help!

  • Some recently scanned files (TIFFs) won't open in ACR from Bridge, while most will. Why or how to correct?

All my TIFFs will open from CS6. In Bridge, when I select some TIFFs, the “File > Open in Camera Raw…” is greyed out.  For other TIFFs it is not.  Similarly for right clicking on an thumbnail in bridge. I’ve noted that preferences refers to “supported TIFFs” but can't find information on when a TIFF is not supported. Is there a size limit, the problem scans are larger than my normal ones at over 800MB!.   I’m on a MAC, OS X 10.9.5, PS CS6 13.0.6 and ACR 8.7.1.311.  My current work-around is to open these from PS.  Also note that the Bridge thumb nail do not have the symbol showing it's been changed in the upper right corner on the TIFFs I can't open, yet when I open as a RAW image from PS the changes are reflected in ACR.

Some additional information: When I open the image as a raw image from CS6 my previously made raw changes are intact.  But, when I open it in CS6 but not as raw (e.g. open recent images), none of my raw adjustments are there.

  • CS5 won't open a CS3 document

When I try to open the CS3 document, I have no tool palette on the left side of the screen and cannot edit the document.

Is this something other than a US-English installation? If so, see How I fixed the missing shortcuts in InDesign CS4 and http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408055.html

  • .CR2 files won't open in CS3 on  a new WIN7 'puter

I just got a new 'puter with WIN7 installed. I installed CS3 and updated ACR to 4.6, (removed the old .8bi, (or whatever it was), file first). I am shooting a Canon 40D BTW...
I still can't open .CR2 files - I ge something like: "could not complete your request as it is not the right kind of document". They will not open in Bridge or CS3.
My discussion with tech support left me with "Bridge can't open .CR2 files..."
My next step, unless someone here can offer something easier/better, is to uninstall CS3 and reinstall.
    Thanx,
    Ron

Do you see Camera Raw listed correctly in Photoshop > Help > About Plug-in?
Don't re-install until you've tried resetting all three sets of preferences and purged the Bridge cache.

  • New Macs with Mavericks won't open Photoshop CS3

I upgraded my desktop and laptop and am having trouble with my licensed version of CS3.  I spent over an hour with the Adobe Chat line to try to resolve the issues.  My desktop computer (iMac) says: "Licensing for this product has stopped working."  It quits the program after that message, so I cannot deactivate CS3 on that computer.  My laptop says that I need to deactivate the software on the other computer in order to activate it on the laptop.  After an hour on Adobe Chat, it abruptly ended unresolved with:
    Bopanna N B: Thank you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the appropriate group.
You are not currently connected to a chat representative.
    The End.
Can my licensed version be deactivated from all current computers so I can reactivate on my new computer?  I'm in the middle of a project with a deadline and need this program.  My Adobe account shows that I purchased it, so it's legitimate.  I just can't access it now.

On this page you should be able use the Chat Now button at the bottom of the page and then adobe can reset your activations

Also, this might fix the error your seeing in case you want to use cs3 on your desktop, because you are allowed to have cs3 installed on two of your own computers.

  • Help! My CS3 won't open RAW files from my Canon EOS 7D..

I have always used Photoshop CS3 - I like it and am quick with it, and I shoot RAW files on Canon EOS.
I don't want to upgrade to CS5, however since upgrading my camera to a 7D, Photoshop will no longer
open my RAW files. I've tried to update plug-ins, I've tried to work through DNG [it won't open those either]
and I've tried for hours on end to get an answer from Adobe on the phone. Nothing is working. Does anyone
have any advice for me please? I'm begining to tear my hair out!! Emma

    Hi,
Are you saying your Ps CS3 won't even open the sample DNG file (/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Samples/Doors.dng)? If that's the case then you need to make sure you have the correct Camera Raw 4 plug-in installed properly.
If it is just DNGs generated from your 7D files, then maybe the DNG Converter options need to be tweaked.
    regards
    steve

  • I'm trying to install Adobe PS CS3 for my boss on an other computer. I put the Program on a hard disc and copied it to the other computer now it won't open and says it needs the license. What can I do to make it work on this  computer?

I'm trying to install Adobe PS CS3 for my boss on an other computer. I put the Program on a hard disc and copied it to the other computer now it won't open and says it needs the license. What can I do to make it work on this  computer?

Copying the program over to a new machine will not work.   Install it using installation files and activate it using the serial number assigned to the license.

  • Installed 10.6.3 and now Photoshop CS3 won't open

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Photoshop CS3 hasn't been the same. Whether it is the OS or the new drivers to manage my printer and my scanner, I don't know.
Today, I had been working on Photoshop all day and at some point the computer got slow and it told me it had a software update. I decided to save everything I was doing, quit Photoshop and install Mac OS 10.6.3 hoping it was the answer to all the glitches.
Instead, Photoshop won't open at all anymore. I have restarted, shut down, repaired permissions, reinstalled the program, updated everything and it still won't open. It's the only program affected from my design suite as far as I can tell, but it's also the one I use the most!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also happened here with all of my CS3 apps on my Mac Pro. Also, Quark XPress v8.16 exhibited the same crash at startup. *_Not Good_*! Lightroom loaded properly with no issues. Haven't had a chance to run through every app yet, but as a Graphic Designer, those are the ones I need to work. An interesting tidbit was that this did NOT occur on the installs of CS3 and Quark XPress on my MacBook, which also was updated to 10.6.3. Just the Mac Pro.
Re-installed CS3 suite and Quark XPress to no avail. Also cleaned font caches.
I "fixed" this by re-installing Snow Leopard from the DVD which brought me back to 10.6, which just installs over itself, keeping all your apps and settings intact. I then downloaded the older 10.6.2 Combo Update, and installed that, which brought me back to the point I was at prior to 10.6.3. I also ran a software update after the 10.6.2 update, and installed all the found updates EXCEPT for the 10.6.3 update it found.
    No problems as of yet...
I'll report back if any do arise.
My gut feeling is that this is some sort of color profile or font issue.

  • Why JPEG - TIFF files in Bridge won´t open directly in Photoshop CC 2014?

Since a couple of weeks ago, whenever I click a jpeg or tiff file in Bridge (last reinstalled in 17/08/14) it won’t open directly in Photoshop CC 2014, but in Windows photo viewer.  Am I doing something wrong or is it Bridge’s fault?

Thank you for your help. I tried this, but, at least in Windows OS if I do it, every time I'm within any window, a JPEG or TIFF file will open directly in Photoshop, not Windows Viewer. I contacted Adobe support and they sugested me to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop and Bridge. It took me some time, but the problem was solved. I suspect that my issue began the moment I uninstalled Photoshop CC, which was active at the same time with Photoshop CC 2014. So, if you have both, try to live with them or uninstall both apps and reinstall only CC 2014.

  • New install of CS3 won't open NEF (Nikon RAW) images

New install of CS3 on my new PC laptop won't open NEF (Nikon RAW) images. Same PC product opens them on my older desktop, and CS5 for MAC opens them on my iMAC.
What am I missing? CS3 has been registered and activated. Thank you

    Hi, Again, John,
I followed the instructions to the letter, and nothing worked. I still got the wrong kind of file message. After I tried to use the plug-in, I could no longre open pages in IE or Firefox. I have to wipe my new computer and reinstall everything. This time, I made CS3 the first thing I installed, and followed the instruction again as follows:
    "Windows
    ®
    1. Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open My Computer.
    3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
    4. Navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats.
    5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to anot
her location (for example, a new folder on your
desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, fr
om the download into the same folder as Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge."
Still unable to open RAW images in PS. I did notice that the two files I copied to the desktop folder were the same, although one was slightly larger than the other. I chose to keep both.
Why is CS3 working on my desktop from the same disk with no plu-in, but not on my new laptop? Is it Windows 8.1 instead of XP? That doesn't make much sense. PLEASE help. This is insane.

  • CS4 won't open TIFF with IBM PC Byte order

When our team tries to open images saved as TIFFs with a Byte order for IBM PC with Photoshop CS4, we get an error message that we do not have enough RAM to open the image.
We then opened the image on a machine running Photoshop CS2 with no problem, resaved the TIFF with a Macintosh Byte order and that seemed to fix the problem.
Is this a glitch that Adobe is aware of and will it be fixed in any upcoming updates?

I know of one bug like that, reading PackBits compressed images (the bug is very rare).
But if you could send me a copy of the file that won't open, I'll take a look and see if it might be a problem we don't know about.

  • CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
    What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.
