Tiffs in LR driving me cuckoo

Hello,
In short: the 'flashing' updating of a tiff file in LR is driving me nuts. What am I doing wrong?
Long: after exporting to PS from a raw file in LR (mac, 3 or 4), the picture comes back as a tiff, but if I still want to do some work on it afterwards in LR ,
like working with a brush. the file keeps 'updating' = 'loading', while working, constantly disturbing the work process.
For example: I have to re-select the adjustment point all the time, while I'm not even done.
Is there anybody with a solution to this? It is not workable.  The tiff is not in layers or anything.
Thanks in advance.

Evert,
Make sure that <Automatically write changes int XMP is un-checked> in >Edit >Catalog Settings.
If you need metadata written to XMP and/or file do it manually via Ctrl/Cmd + "S" or >Metadata >Write metadata to file. In Grid View you can select a bunch of images and do Ctr./Cmd + S for all of them.

  • Driving me Cuckoo!

Yet again i'm back with more problems. For some reason now everytime i load up the PC now i would get to the login window and the PC would restart on me. Then it runs scandisk, recovers and suddenly everythings fine!??
Its also taking much longer now to load up windows.
And you may have been aware of the graphics problems i had. Well i bought a new monitor and thank god it solved many issues i had, but i'm still getting a slight stuttering effect initially helped by moving to Ultra DMA mode 6.
I'm bargaining its the mouse because i've seen how my friends optical mouse moves across screen, ultra smooth & no stuttering then mine moves semi smoothly and stutters!
    Please help! Ginster :(

    looking like this
btw is your mouse stuttering while playing games ?
    if so, look  here (LostCircuits)

LostCircuits: On the nForce2 chipset, it appears as if enabling APIC per se leads to some performance hit in I/O intensive applications since the system apparently prefers to run the old-fashioned 8259 PIC. The drawback is a less flexible assignments for interrupt requests. Most likely, higher access latencies for the individual devices in APIC mode compared to the more rigid IRQ assignment without APIC are responsible for the difference.
Edit by miti: Before reading forward, take a look at backwoodz comments !!
How to change APIC (only changing normally causes new windows installation !!)
cortesy of Planet3DNow Source in German
1.)Go to windows device manager, choose " computer " and actualize driver do not search. Then chose " ACPI-PC " as it shown here (sorry the foto shows german WinXP)
2.) Then Windows demands new start, do so!
At once open BIOS and disable " APIC " (not ACPI !!), save changing and reboot. Windows will do some reconfigurations and demands new start again. But thats all and better than to install Windwos new.nn[/B]

  • _blank stays blank!!

This is driving me cuckoo, hope someone can help.
I am setting up a button behavior to open a new page which
contains a .swf (via loader). The Behavior "go to URL:" works fine
on _top, _self, _parent (page opens, .swf plays) but not when it is

the .swf doesn't load, only the background of the page shows up.

  • Bridge Image Processor always creates JPEG or TIFF folder, how do I change that behavior?

I have searched the web, Bridge forums, and Photoshop forums, and come up empty-handed. (The strange thing is, I know there used to be a post that answered this question a few years ago.) Anyway, I use Image Processor quite a bit, and it works great except for the annoying behavior of always creating a new folder to store the newly-created images.
I remember the solution is to change some line in a (XML?) file from "JPEG" to "". For the life of me, I can't find which file that is! I think it used to located down inside Application Support. I think.
Thanks for help on this, it's driving me crazy!
    Jeff

Thanks for replying! I'm running CS 5.1. Oh, now I see...I've never run Image Processor from within Photoshop, just from Bridge. You're right, it does offer different options than Bridge.
Anyway, I found it what I was looking for.
Open up (don't run!) the Image Processor.jsx file. I opened it up in ExtendScript Toolkit. The path is /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5.1/Presets/Scripts/Image Processor.jsx
I'm on line 1574 (in other versions, the line number may vary)
This is what the line says:
    var subFolderText = inFolderLocation + "/JPEG/";
    Change to:
    var subFolderText = inFolderLocation + "//";
Problem solved. Repeat as necessary for other folders you don't want created (TIFF, PSD)
    Back to work!

  • Can't get rid of hourly cuckoo chime in OSX 10.4.8

I bought a brand new 17" Intel iMac in Beijing and every hour it makes a startling loud cuckoo chime that is driving me around the bend. It really is a cuckoo clock sound and everyone seems to think that there should be no such thing packaged with Tiger.
I even reformatted my drive and reinstalled from scratch and it's still there so it's not attached to some application I've installed.
Under System Prefs/Date & Time/Clock I do have "Announce The Time" unchecked and I can't find any other things to configure for the clock.

Just for yucks, and maybe a clue:
    1. Open Sound preference
    2. click "Sound efects" tab
    3. Deselect "play user face sound effects".

  • Sudden problem with importing tiff files with alpha channel (CS5)

OK this is driving me nuts. For years I have been importing image files that have an alpha channel  into FCP as.tiff files. I use Photoshop files only when I want to use the layers as they are too cumbersome otherwise). I have recent upgraded Photoshop, etc. to CS5 and now FCP won't import them anymore. I get a message saying: "File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown"
I am not doing anything different and tiff files created in just the same way in an earlier version of Photoshop import and work just fine. Is this a CS5 bug? Does anyone know of a work around. I want to keep using tiff files as they seem to work best for me with alpha channel work (and I don't see why I need to reinvent the wheel).
    Thanks
    A

I've had a similar issue recently. Same TIFF files downloaded from the same server, different FCP project, new error. I either see"File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown" or I get the even stranger, "Unrecognized file type."
I can open them in PS and save them again as TIF, same results. I know these are not CMYK files but even if resave the TIF as RGB, I get the same results, they are not recognized by FCP.
But if I open them in PS and save them as PNG with alpha, they improt fine.
I have no idea what's going on.

  • Grainy export TIFFs in LR3  for use in preview! - LR2 worked fine....

    HI all.
I've just ugraded to LR3.2 from 2.7 adnd i'm having troubles exporting my RAW files.
Once edited they look great on the LR screen, but the i export them as full sized TIFFs and then open them up again in Apple Osx 'Preview' and they appear very noisey and griany......a million mies away from how the look in LR.
    Any ideas?
I have always used Lightroom and never had this problem in version 2.x, only now having the problem in 3.2. I've even tried editing the same file in LR2 and it works fine there..its LR3.
    What am i doing wrong?
its driving me mad as i'm a wedding photographer and need to be able to send files to clients for them to view at home. If i export them as JPEGS, the same thing happens and they only view correctly9JPEGS & TIFFs) if i view them at 'actual size' in preview, which is no good as you cant see the whole photo because its too big....
I'm a photographer so i know all about ISO & noise etc etc and its not that. its something that happening in the export side of things.
I use: Apple Mac, oSX 10.6.4
Please help....i dont want to have to revert back to LR2 as 3.2 is great for everythig else!!!
    Thanks!
    Ben

Preview is just fine as long as you disable the preference to respect image and screen dpi. The "grainy" images the OP is noting might simply be an artefact of it being busy rescaling the image. I have noticed that with large tiffs, especially uncompressed files, it takes it a while to load the file entirely, rescale and show you the image. In the mean time, it will show a pixelated, low res image. The scaling that preview uses is usually criticised for being too aggressive in smearing everything over and causing the displayed image to be too soft. They changed the scaling to Lanczos in Snow Leopard for this reason, the same as Lightroom uses in the export step. Before it was using a bicubic algorithm I think that was much softer than Lightroom's scaling and because of that actually reduced noise and grain.

  • How open images from other programs & convert to tiff?

I am new to digital photography. I usually take 2 to 3 MB images with my Canon Rebel XT and use iPhoto as my basic program to organize images, create albums, and do very basic editing. I'm running on a G4 Powerbook with OS10.3. I expect to upgrade to iPhoto6 soon. I also use Canon's Image Browser (because it does a better job of compression for emailing that my present iPhoto) and an abbreviated version of ArcSoft PhotoStudio which came bundled with my Canon and has editing tools similar to Adobe Photoshop Elements.
So far I usually use iPhoto's "Preferences/Open in Other" command when I want to open one or more selected images in one of the other programs. I have not found any easy way to locate an image while working in ImageBrowser or PhotoStudio, because iPhoto assigns folder numbers by date, so I'd have to know in which of many numbered folders to look. Placing images into iPhoto albums does not help because while the album names appear in these program's tree view they appear unable to link to them. Canon refuses to answer questions relating to iPhoto and referred me to ArcSoft for any questions about PhotoStudio. ArcSoft says they provide no support for programs bundled with hardware. Typical. What I'd like to know is:
    1. Is there any easy way to locate iPhoto images while I'm in one of these other programs?
    2. Is there any way to copy an entire album from iPhoto to one of these other programs?
    3. I've attended two different digital photo classes in which instructors felt it desirable to convert jpegs to tiffs. One felt it was necessary to reduce the loss of pixels during editing, and the other does it for any image he plans to print, claiming it improves print quality. They recommended getting a special conversion program. Based on responses here to the topic: "Want to save jpeg file as tiff before making edits to photos", others feel that for most amateurs like me this is a minor issue, especially with iPhoto. Testing this I have found, as Kevin Wolfe1 says Feb 12, that compression of a jpeg appears to occur primarily on the first edit and does not sognificantly degrade the image. The programs I mention above appear able to save an edited jpeg as a tiff if desired, but I've noticed also that iPhoto's Export command includes the option to export a jpeg (to desktop or another folder) as a tiff. When I tried this, it did create a file identified as .tif, and I can drag that file back into the iPhoto Library where it remains named as a .tif, and according to iPhoto, this file contains about 5 times the MBs the original jpeg had. What I'm curious to know is, is that a true tiff file or is iPhoto kidding me?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Typical. What I'd like to know is:
    1. Is there any easy way to locate iPhoto images
while I'm in one of these other programs?
In iPhoto 06 you have the option to NOT move imported image file in to the iPhoto library. So they images stay in the place where you put them. With this option the iPhoto library only contains "pointers".
    2. Is there any way to copy an entire album from
iPhoto to one of these other programs?
Can't you open an album, select all the images then then use "export"
    3. I've attended two different digital photo classes
in which instructors felt it desirable to convert
    jpegs to tiffs.
If you are worried about this then you should be shooting RAW format. In your case the camera is doing the JPG conversion and the "damage" is unrecoverable.
iPhoto 6 and Tigeer (10.4.x) has a little bit better supportfor raw format images i yu are worried about something that makes such a small difference then you should be woried about the stuf that makes a large difference first.
You might want to concider this workflow:
    1) use Canon software to download files from camera
    2) use Canon software to convert to TIFF
    3) Import TIFF to iPhoto (using option to NOT consolidate library
    4) specify arcedit, PS or Gimp as your external editor
Others might want to lt iPhoto do the import and raw conversion but you said you wanted thr photos to be stored outside of iPhoto's library system you you can find them with out having to do an export.

  • A generic error occurred in GDI+ while assing tiff image file to Bitmap and Image

    Hi,
I am getting "A generic error occurred in GDI+" error while reading the tiff image file to Bitmap or Image.
    Below is my sample code.
    string filePath=@"c:\Images\sample.tif";
    Bitmap bmp=new Bitmap(filePath);   // here getting exception
    int totalpages=bmp.GetFrameCount(.....);
    etc......
I tried using Bitmap.FromFile() and also from FromStream() even for Image also but there is no use.
Moreover i m having full permissions for the file path and the tiff file is having multiple pages.
Can anyone help me to solve this issue please.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kishore
    Kishore

Make sure that the Tif file is valid (can other software open it)?  If you are able to save a Tif using GDI+, try saving that Tif, then opening it.  Part of me wonders if there is something about that specific Tif that GDI+ doesn't like.
You could also try using WIC to open the TIF, perhaps you would have better luck there.

  • Error while Driving a view using parameters from other view

    Hi,
I have created a report with streamlist and Barchart view.Driving option is used in streamlist to drive the barchart. The driving works well untill i dont use any filters in the Streamlist.Once i use parameters in streamlist , the driving works only for the default values set. When Second set of values are chosed for the parameter, the values are displayed correctly , but once they are selected for driving, the current values are replaced by the results of the default parameter settings.
I have already done the tutorials for driving and it worked well untill i use filters in the main view, from where the driving is done.
I would really appreciate if someone could give a solution for this problem.

    Hi,
Login as i.e. sys as sysdba. Standard password is change_on_install.
Or you can login in using user that has CREATE VIEW WITH ADMIN OPTION and then grant CREATE VIEW privilege to user to want.

  • TIFF files in Adobe bridge

My normal routine after I have converted my Nikon NEF files and processed them in Photoshop CS3 is to save as TIF files. These have always then been visible in Adobe bridge CS3. For some reason I can no longer see the picture thumbnail in Adobe bridge - instead I just get a thumbnail showing a TIFF logo rather than the picture itself. Does anyone know how I can restore things so that the thumbnail shows the actual converted picture? My NEF files and any converted JPGs continue to show as actual picture thumbnails in Bridge.
    Many thanks
    Steven

    Hello Curt and Charlie
Thank you both for taking the time to help me with my tif file problem. Unfortunately none of the sugestions worked and consequently I decided to reinstall the Photoshop suite without removing the existing programme. I did this hoping it would repair any corrupted files and because I took fright at the deactivate message not knowing what the implications would be for installing on other computers or in the event of a hard drive failure.
Anyway, the result was that I still could not see my tifs as picture thumbnails in Bridge. I hit on the idea of trying the original RAW files and converting them into fresh tifs in Photoshop CS3. Hey presto, I can see these fresh tifs as picture thumbnails in Adobe Bridge, so I can go back to my original workflow if I want with any new photographs.
I then reinstalled lightroom 2 and it happily shows all the tifs I possess as picture thumnails. By some trickery I don't understand I used the edit as a copy function in Lightroom for one of the tifs I can't see in Bridge. I was surprised to find the new copy created in Lightroom is viewable as a picture thumbnail tif in Bridge. So I now have a workaround to see some of my old heavily-processed tifs as picture thumbnails in Bridge. I'm still completely mystified why my original tifs won't show as picture thumbnails in Bridge.
The irony is that after this amount of playing around in Lightroom I have begun to get used to it and found it can do what I was trying to do in Bridge i.e. quickly identify and compare different versions of the same image after differing Photoshop post-processing regimes. Instead, I'm now wondering if I will ever need to bother with Bridge again - is there anything that Bridge can do that Lightroom can't?
    Thanks again for your help
    Regards
    Steve

  • Opening tiff photos in Adobe Camera Raw

I can not open my tiff files / photos in Adobe Camera Raw.  I am using CS6 that has been completely updated with all the current updates. I go to Bridge, highlight a tiff thumbnail photo and go up the file drop down menu.  The open in raw selection is grayed out and I can not select it.  It works fine with jpeg files, and I can open raw files without problems.  It just won't work with tiff files. I have gone to preferences and selected the option to open all supported tiff flles but this did not work either.
I have uninstalled Photoshop and Bridge and reinstalled it and updated it all again and it still will not let me open tiff files in Camera Raw.
    Any ideas?

I am more apt to beleive the issue is with the tif files themselves. Not all tif files are equal. It depends on the compression, bit mode and so forth. Can the tiff files be opened in photoshop? if so, then that just maybe the problem. if not, then the file itself maybe corrupt. But I am leaning towards the settings used when saving the file.

  • Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

this was supplied by Ann Shelbourne.
Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
These files will often open in Photoshop 7.0.1 or in CS1 but not in CS2.
The trouble may be caused by bad dates in the EXIF data and can originate from an incorrectly-programmed digital camera; or from a scan that was created after after Jan1 of this year (because of a known bug in some scanner software).
If someone runs into the "Could not complete your request because of a program error" problem, and does not have CS1, try opening the Tiff in TextEdit.
The EXIF data is right at the top. Check the EXIF data for bad creation dates and change any incorrect ones there.
Save and close; and then the file will probably open in CS2 without a murmur.

    > If iPhoto causes problems why not open the images from the Finder?
I get the error if I open a file from within iPhoto using "OPen in external editor" and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
I get the error if I do "Show file" in iPhoto to see the file in the Finder. Then, if I double-click and it opens in PS, and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
