Tiger (10.4.3) netboot image from Panther Server (10.3.9) odd permissions

System config:
Panther Server 10.3.9 on Xserve G5 running Netboot services
New 2.3GHz Dualcore G5 client machines (require Tiger boot image)
Created a 10.4.3 boot image on the server from a FireWire drive. All seems to work okay, except for strange issues with permissions when copying files from Users' home folders (e.g. Desktop, Documents, etc.). If copying a folder from Desktop to a server share, we get the error:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
If there are no subfolders, the contents copy anyway. If there are subfolders, the first subfolder is created but is empty and nothing else is copied.
This does not occur if logged-in as the administrator user for the netboot image.

Found the solution on afp548.com
Same issue also affects non-netboot Tiger clients who are not local admins.
fixed by running serveradmin command in Terminal on the server:
sudo serveradmin settings afp:noNetworkUsers = yes

  • Help creating a netboot image for Panther in SIU

    Hi!
I have an old iBook G3 that has a broken CDROM drive.
I want to install Panther on it, so I'm thinking to netboot it from my SNow Leopard server.
I tried creating a netboot image from the original Panther CD, using the System Image Utility in SL but it seems I can only create images of Snow Leopard.
    This limitation seems strange.
Is there a way to create a netboot image from my Panther CD and use it to beet my ibook ?
Any information online on how to achieve this?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Thanks Antonio !
    That's a really good answer.
I just need to add some more info:
I downloaded the Server Admin tools from the link you gave me but it would not install on 10.6.1 Server nor on 10.5 client.
    I get the error:
"You cannot install Server Admin Tools on this volume. You are not allowed to install the software on this disk for an unknown reason."
Thus I extracted manually the System Image Utility from Installers/Packages/ServerAdminTools.pkg/Contents/Archive.pax.gz
The application runs fine on Leopard client and SL server.
I just need to figure out now how to boot my iBook.

    Hi Don, here's my guess...
The 901 number is additional space added in the scripts. This indicates that the source image size was 0.
Since you are making a NetBoot from Install media, under the covers the installer process is being run to create a NetBoot volume. The media shipped with the 27" iMac is most likely CPU specific and thus the installation fails because you are trying to create the image (i.e. install the system) on an unsupported CPU.
In order to produce a NetBoot from the install media, you'll have to create it on the 27" iMac.
    Hi Brian,
Thanks for the response. This makes perfect sense. I'll give this a try and shout back!
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade from Panther Server with Raid1

Trying to upgrade from Panther Server with software Raid1. Upgrade fails with "Could not prepare disk". I'm guessing it has to do with the RAID1? I need to upgrade and not do a clean install.
Could I upgrade to tiger server first?

Wow, Panther server. Ah the memories... Anyway, what you are running into is an issue with the actual Apple RAID software versions. If you run this command:
    diskutil checkRaid
You should see in the result:
    Apple RAID version: 1
That is your problem. Tiger and Leopard will only install on Apple RAID version 2 which was introduced in Tiger. But, all is not lost. Apple has provided a method to upgrade the RAID version without a break and a recreation. Again, using diskutil, run this command to see your options:
    diskutil convertRaid
    You will get:
Convert a 1.x RAID set (Mac OS 10.3 Panther or earlier) to a 2.x RAID set.
The filesystem must be mounted and resizeable (i.e. Journaled HFS+).
Ownership of the affected disk is required.
    Example: diskutil convertRAID /Volumes/RAID
If the name of the volume is Data, then diskutil convertRaid /Volumes/Data should provide the fix you need.
Boot from your Leopard install media and then before attempting to install, open the Terminal and use the command above. Provided you formated as HFS+ journaled you will be fine.
*Make sure you have a backup!*
Oh, and if this fails, then run a diskutil list and hope that you did not install the OS 9 firewire drivers. If you did, then nuking and paving is likely your only option. In that case, I would suggest a clone, then a Raid break, then a creation of a new RAID set, then a restore, then an upgrade.
Again, make sure you back everything up. Be ready to revert back to your clone. Stop all services before upgrading. Export all users and groups. Just be safe. Panther to Leopard can be a tricky upgrade. If you are using MySQL, do a dump before attempting.
Hope this helps. Backup first. Backup many places.

  • Using flash to display images from sql server or file system

    hello,
what methods and parameters of the urlloader class we have to use to display images in a flash player if possible..
also movie should update everytime a new image is added to a database or file
the images can either be in a file system or in a sql database (if possible)
does flash comes with an object of this type or we have to create it.
    regards,

i responded to your duplicate message 4 days ago:
is it possible to insert and retrieve images from sql server using actionscript.
you'll need server-side script to query your database and you can use the flash urlloader class to call your script.
also  is it possible to create a flash scrolling gallery based on images  stored in a database and everytime an image is added it is displayed in  the gallery.
load the data using the urlloader class and  then load the images.  periodically query the database for new images if  there's no direct way for flash to know a new image was added.

  • Loader will load images from another server, but then we get error on Bitmap operation

I'm developing an app that currently is using Loader to get images from another server.  This shouldn't currently work since we are still waiting for the owner of that server to put a crossdomain file in place.  However, it does work -- sort of .
Loader can load the images fine, without an error.  But then the app has a feature in which we are making a larger duplicate of the image to display in a sidebar, we do this in this manner:
    var myBitmap:Bitmap = Bitmap(loader.content);
and when this runs we get a Flash player security error 2122, sandbox violation.
So while I'm hoping all this will fix itself when the crossdomain.xml file is put in place, I'm confused as to why we only get the sandbox error when we make a Bitmap from the image, and not when we initially try to retrieve the image.
(Incidentally: is there a better way to make a "copy" of an image loaded by a Loader, and then change its width and height for simultaneous display in another part of the stage?  I don't need to change its actual dimensions -- I just need to change its display width and height.)
    Thanks!

The sandbox allows viewing, not editing from another server without a crossdomain.
So, when you try to load it up, it loads it, but "read-only" and gives you an error when you try to "edit" it by making a new Bitmap out of it.
This should resolve itself once that crossdomain is in place.
    ||EDIT||
I just realized I should clarify my statement a little more.
When you load images from another server without a crossdomain, it allows the load for display only.  When you try to load data, it will fail.  This is because, XML data, or some other type of data is editable by default, and images are only viewable by default.  So, the image fails when you try to convert it into an editable form.

  • Tiger Server can't be replica from Panther Server?

I had an error message when tried to make a replica from my Panther Server in my new Tiger Server... so I search in Google and found some people with the same problem.
Server Admin began having trouble getting the status of running services after I was messing with Software Update settings. I logged out and back in and the status recovered from spinning wheel. Looked like a problem connecting to open directory server. Tried to do a replica and got error "incompatible software versions" (my directory master is 10.3.9) so it won't replicate to 10.4.
Is there any way to solve this?
    Thanx a lot.

The LDAP database formats are not compatible between 10.3.9 and 10.4. All of the replicas must be on the same base OS.

  • Retrieving Invoice images from Content Server

    Background
My problem is, that I need to retrieve images from the Content Server and save them on a local drive with a path provided by the user. Metadata that is available for the image includes Object ID and the URL to the image on the server.
However, the Object ID is not valid for DMS, so the Function Groups for this are invalid. The cl_gui_* function groups have several usable Function Modules, but the URL link provided for the image is something like this:
    http://xxxxxx.xxxxxx.com:XXXX/ContentServer/ContentServer.dll?get&pVersion=0046&contRep=Z2&docId=123AB1C123D12E12345.... etc.
What makes the cl_gui FM unable to work, is the :, ?, % and & characters in the string - which makes the FMs look at the URL as invalid.
I have also tried more or less the entire content of FM in the SCMS_* Function Group (containing FMs for the Content Server), but to no avail.
    Question
So, now to my question: Is there any way to translate the URL provided so the cl_gui FMs can understand it? Or, should I go the other way around and fetch the Invoice Image using the provided Object ID?
All needed at my program to finish off, is a method to retrieve the given images and save them to a local path.
I hope the Guru's of the SDN will be able to help me here

  • Retrieving Image from IXOS server

    Hi,
We want to retrieve an image from the IXOS server, convert it from IXOS format to JPEG,GIF format, and store it on the R/3 server for later use.
Are there any function modules, class methods etc. to achieve this?
    Regards,
    Saurabh

The link between R/3 and the IXOS server document should be contained in table toa01.  Once you locate the link to the document you can use function module ARCHIVOBJECT_GET_DT_VIA_TABLE to retrieve the archived document and do what ever you want.  There are a number of function modules that can be helpful in working with archived documents.  Just do a search in SE37 for ARCHIVE and you will find several.
    Hope this helps.

  • Request a .jpg image from Indesign server via script?

    hello,
I have a scenario in which I am switching from using QuarkXpress Server to Indesign Server. With Quark Server I am able to request a jpg image from a quark Document. Basically, by providing the right parameters, I can get a JPG preview of what a picture box or text box looks like in the Quark Document.
I need to do something like this with InDesign Server. Is it possible to write a script specifying an Indesign Document and maybe a TextFrameID or PictureFrame ID and get a JPG rendering of it?
I know I can export the whole document as a PDF but I need to be able to get images of single textframes/pictureframes or grouped frames.
Does anyone know if this is possible or how to do this?
    thanks in advance!!!
    -Lloyd

Or maybe the only way to achieve this (hopefully not, though) is to export the whole document as a JPG, and then find a way to programmatically crop the part I need based on the coordinates of the textframe/pictureframe (or grouped framed) that I need?
    thanks in advance,
    Lloyd

  • Problem viewing images from FTP server from HTMLs generated from a JSP

    Hello,
We are developing an web application. The htmls will be dynamically generated based on user request. These htmls will contain images using urls like this "<img src="ftp://xyz/test.jpg">". We are having some strange problem. When we view the jsp generated html then it can not retreive the images fromthe FTP server. But when I copy the texts of this html and make a static html with this text then the image is shown...:-((
    Ahmed

    I don't know for sure,
but if you use a server like resin you need to place the port after the server (e.g. intranet:8080/index.html) so maybe you should type ftp://xyz:23/image.jpg.
