Tiger 10.4.4. Update WARNING! (CHUD)
For those who use CHUD tools to disable Nap mode (because of high pitch whine and other weird processor and firewire noises)
I recommend to uninstall older version of CHUD tools.
After I did software update my fans always started to get crazy 2-3 minutes after booting. No matter which app I started, even if any. The fans went so fast and loud I thought they are thinking that the 10.4.4. update turned them into some Rolls-Royce engines (used to "move" airplains) and they probably decided to fly my Mac away...
Then I realized I can not connect to the Internet, because my USB cdma modem "did not exist" even if I checked the connection and the power-on statement...
I uninstalled the CHUD tools and the problems were gone.
There is a new version of CHUD tools from 2006-10-01 available here: http://developer.apple.com/tools/download/
dualG5 2,5GHz 3,5GB RAM WDRaptor drives(no Raid) Mac OS X (10.4.4) Yamaha 01x, i88x, motu828, MidiExpressXT
to ifwuh:
this "chripping" noise is known mostly / and only probably when using firewire interfaces. Many G5 machines are affected-some people reported that changing PSU unit solved the problem....
After you install CHUD tools you have to reboot your Mac. Than will find new Processor pane under Preferences. Here you can untick (disable) Nap mode.
Good news is, that "the CHUD package installer no longer depends on the Xcode Developer Tools package being installed"
(taken from it's latest release notes)....
To everyone else: glad to see it helped
And tobytheuba: I haven't seen that movie, it seems that it is a horror movie right? No, I wasn't feeling SO bad because I knew that I am in OSX world, no Windows anymore, hence I hardly believed it must be solved immediatelly. And it was

I have mac os x10.4.11 Tiger , i tried to update and after I did that when I tried to use itunes, but it doesn't open.. can anyone tell me what I have to do to fix this ??
Hello,
Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+leopard+retail+10.5
There are workarounds if the 867MHz CPU is the only hangup...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/leopardassist/
http://lowendmac.com/osx/leopard/unsupported.html
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, report the version of OSX from that window, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

How do I disable the Flashplayer Update Warning?
Hi Guys
I'm working on a small SWF as part of a webpage I'm designing. I have a swf banner already on the page and that works fine. But when I test the page, with the additional swf in IE9, using the latest player version, IE9 displays a blank white box instead of the animation and a message saying I need to update my Flash Player (which is fully up to date!) However the swf does work if I publish it as version 9 or below (although I get a message below the swf saying I must update to a newer Flash Player version!!!)
I've posted on the Flash Player Forum about the technical Flash Player issues but I'm getting irritated by this Flash Player update warning that is part of the CSS (and pops up often). Unfortunately (as a newbie) everytime I try and take the newer version code out I keep getting a bit of a mess. Can anyone tell me which lines of code I should remove or replace from below please (I hope I have copied all the relevant section of code)? Apologies. It is only local at the moment.
Regards,
Graham

Apols for delay in feedback. The good news is both your solutions work for IE9 and I went with "commenting" to solve the problem, bbbuuuttt the bad news is both solutions impact on Firefox and when I open that browser the swf objects do not display at all (just blank white oblongs with commenting and a blank box for the header and nothing at all for the 2nd swf when I tried your replacement option). That's bizare. Is there a piece of code I'm missing or something I need to adapt for FireFox (I'm running the latest version)?

Will update from Tiger affect Automatic Software Update?
Hi guys.
It's my first question here. I purchased a MacBook approx 3 years ago from Apple Store which got Tiger(10.4.11) installed.
I would like to update to Snow Leopard because I need to upgrade from Adobe CS3 to CS5. My question is if I buy the Snow Leopard disc from Apple Store and upgrade from Tiger will automatic software update and other stuff work?
Appreciate your help.Chubbs75 wrote:

If you are asking if Software Update will automatically update Snow Leopard & other Apple-supplied software to the latest versions during or immediately after the upgrade, the answer is no. The upgrade should preserve whatever preferences you set for Software Update in Tiger, so depending on them you may see no automatic update notifications, notifications only after the interval for checks you have set has elapsed, or whatever.
Remember that it is highly recommended that you backup your HD, or at least your important data, before applying any upgrade or update. If you do that, you may want to run Software Update as soon as you verify that the upgrade went as expected, & let it recommend & install all the updates your system needs to bring it up to date. -
Downgrading both Tiger and EFI Firmware update
After continuing kernal panics after upgrading the 10.4.10 combo update v1.1, I did a successful archive and install back to 10.4.9. Unfortunately at the same time I upgraded, I also upgraded my EFI Firmware which I thought might help conectivity. It did not. Now, I still have the upgraded EFI Firmware on my comp without the correct Tiger update. I thought of downgrading my firmware with the correct firmware CD, but it states that this can only be done with an unsuccessful upgrade. I'm guessing the successful upgrade they are talking about is not the OS system, but the firmware itself. That was, at the time sucessfully upgraded.
Now, I'm stuck at what to do. Do I upgrade back to 10.4.10 and try to downgrade the airpot, which seems to have helped others? I was reluctant to do that because I was afraid of some incompatibility issues. Do I try the CD to downgrade my EFI FIrmware? Nervous about doing that because of the warning. I'm stuck. Laserwriter 360 and Tiger 10.4.6 Update
I have a Laserwriter 360 that is connected to my G4 via the an ethernet connection using an Asante adapter. When I first loaded Tiger, the printer worked fine. However, after I updated to 10.4.6 two things occurred. First - The update loaded a 2nd copy of Laserwriter 8 and second it now shows 2 images of the printer on the desktop (both of which are X'ed out). When I attempt to configure Laserwriter 8 it does not display any printers. I have tried everything I can think of to restore comunication with the Laserwriter 360. Nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics) Mac OS X (10.4.6)Those AppleTalk-over-Ethernet to AppleTalk/LocalTalk adapters have a habit of not re-acquiring printers that drop out for any reason. The Asante is worse than the Farallon. The solution to this problem (which may or may not be your immediate problem) is to power off the printer and the adapter, power on the printer and make sure it is ready to go, then power on the adapter, then look again to see if the printer is there.
"LaserWriter 8" and "Multiple Printers on the Desktop, X-ed out" sound like you are running Classic. Is this a problem is Mac OS X 10.4, in Classic, or both? -
"Document Flow cannot be updated" warning msg in GR for STO
Hi All,
I get a warning when I try to do GR for a STO (Oub Deliver created for this STO and PGI done...and stock is in Stock in Transit).
What does this warning mean?
Thanks in advance!
Edited by: Duke Dukester on Oct 9, 2008 2:44 AMHi,
I think you are trying Goods Receipt in receiving plant w.r.t. Stock Transport Order instead of Outbound Delivery.
As per SAP recommendation, GR in receiving plant should be done w.r.t. Outbound delivery not STPO so that it will update Sales Document Flow also along with PO History.
In MIGO, try Goods Receipt --> Outbound Delivery instead of Purchase Order and then check. -
Tiger 10.4.11 update install reads disk image fails to mount
i've been trying to download the tiger 10.4.11 upgrade and when i go to open i get the following disc images failed to mount and a reason of item not recognized. i'm at a lose considering ti've downloaded the update several times with my slow dial up and tried disc utilty to correct it, all i want to do is use my new ipod nano but need to upgrade my itunes which means i need to upgrade my software please help pretty frustrated.
Would the same error occur if the update being downloaded is for an intel based computer and not the PPC, which is what is needed?
Here's the page for the 10.4.11 combo PPC download
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
Depending also what level of 10.4 you are presently at, downloading smaller combos/increments, may seem time consuming, but actually work better with dial up service. I was once dial up myself, and went through the same difficulty. Also with doing it this way, you would have to repair permissions with each download, and reboot if any were repaired. There would also be numerous security downloads, too. -
Mac G3 w/ Tiger 10.4.3 update problem/issue "digital signature incorrect"
I have an old G3 on which I reloaded 10.4.3 yesterday (Retail copy). It did not go very smoothly. This is the 3rd install; 1st install was several months ago with this chip, 2nd install was shortly after that with a PowerLogix chip which didn't work. I put the old chip/processor back in yesterday and reinstalled again. I don't remember if I messed with the firmware or not with the previous installs.
PowerMacG3, Model 1.1, PowerPC750, 256meg, BootRom 1.1.1f4
The software updater tells me I need to update to 10.4.8. When I proceed with this, the system downloads the software OK, but when it attempts to install the update I get the following error:
The update "Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) can't be installed.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect.
The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple".
Any ideas as to how I resolve this? Could the problem be with the OS registration, and the different chips?
Thanks in advance.

PowerMac G3 Mac OS X (10.4.3)Thank you for replying to my post.
Yes, I can do a nozzle check with the USB unplugged,
and I still get poor results on the C82 and nothing
on the C86. I just can't believe both printers are
broken. The C86 is new, and they were both working
fine previously.
Epsons are notorious for getting their print heads clogged. Run the clean print head routine a few times. If that doesn't work, return the new printer 'cause it's dead out of the box. The old printer, well, once Epson print heads get to a certain level of clogging, nothing will unclog them. Toss the printer and get a new one. Hint: HP and (some) Canon printers put the print heads in the ink cartridges, while Epson and (some) Canons have the print heads in the printers. Machines which have the heads in the carts also have an easy fix for severe clogs: toss the cart. Warning: HP printer drivers stink.
If you don't need colour, you might think seriously about getting a low-end laser.
I just got the C82 to print readably, but still
completely missing magenta and with minimal
fuzziness. This was just dumb luck though, from
letting the printer sit idle for several hours.
It's still clogged. Clean the heads a few times again, or just toss it.
And yes, I've tried setups through the Print & Fax
pref pane, which usually works better than going
through the Printer Setup Utility which tends to
freeze and crash.
I wish I could afford to just buy another printer.
But I'm still worried it's something to do with my
computer, since both printers are having problems
simultaneously, and they're both really good
all-purpose printers.
It's not your machine. It's Epson.

How to stop a daily update warning?
Once a day, my mac keeps asking me if I want to install an update for my printer then says it's not available after I click update. This is strange cause when I go in the systeme updater, it says no updates are needed. Is there any way I can stop this daily warning? It's just get anoying to get this everyday.
You can hide the unwanted update, if you want.
Launch and sign into the App Store.
Click the "More" button if you have more than one updates.
Right click the update you want to hide and select "Hide Update".
To see hidden updates again, click the store menu and select "Show All Software Updates".

InDesign 5.0.1 Update Warning
Hi
A word of warning for anyone about to upgrade InDesign to 5.0.1.
On my Mac I have both the debug and release versions of InDesign CS3. The release version is in the default '/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS3' folder, while the debug version is in '/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS3 Debug'. I started up the debug updater, which asked me for my password but then left me alone while it installed the patch into '/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS3', breaking the release version. At no point did it ask me where to find the program.
Fortunately the damage was easily reversed by applying the release patch, and I managed to upgrade the debug version by a bit of folder renaming. However, it would have been nice of the updater to give me a chance to tell it where the InDesign CS3 Debug version was. I imagine most plug-in developers have both release and debug versions installed.
Actually, Adobe could solve this problem completely by giving the debug version a different program name. That would make it dead easy to install alongside the release version, without any renaming on the user's part. I still don't know how to install both the release and debug versions on a PC.

IOS 5 Update Warning for iPad 1 Users
If you sync to multiple computers you may loose all your Apps and data when you update your iPad 1 from iOS 4 to iOS5.
iTunes is SUPPOSED to back up all your Apps and data before the update, and is SUPPOSED to restore them afterward. This is not how it worked for me. Either Apps were simply not restored, or were not backed up in the first palce -- either way, they are all gone.
I can re-download them, if I can remember them all and have the several hours to do so. However, all your data will be gone. For example, I had an irreplaceable library of documents in my GoodReader App that are now gone for good, despite having synced daily to two computers.
WARNING ADVICE: If you have applications and data that are irreplaceable, make sure you find another way other than iTunes to back up your information before performing this update.
Another reason why iPad is not ready for the business enterprise environment.I've tried that numerous times this morning without any joy. Screen just goes black then when I let go of the buttons it goes back into the 3 screen loop.
BUT.....
I don't know if it's a timing thing but I just tried holding down both buttons as soon as the first Apple logo screen appeared and it popped back into recovery mode
It's currently running the restore and so far so good, fingers crossed ! -
Tiger hangs after system updates
Have friend with iMac running Tiger was way behind on all OS patches. After the software updates installed the Mac asked to reboot. I initiated the reboot and the finder quit but the Mac would not go all the way down. I eventually hard reset the Mac but it would not boot past the same place.
How should I trouble shoot this problem?
RogerHi rodgerdodger, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing. -
After Tiger 10.4.11 update Final Cut Express won't open
I just ran the software updated for tiger 10.4.11. Now my final cut express won't open and run. The error report says:
Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000008
Does this look like a file or folder permissions issue? Where can I get info on software update rollback? Thanks in advance, very frustrating. Thanks for the tip BGreg but no joy. I repaired disk permissions, installed combo update 10.4.11, repaired disk permissions but FCE still won't run. Same error report as before. Any suggestions appreciated:

Numbers update warning, however, Numbers is up-to-date
Hi,
When trying to open a spreadsheet in numbers, I get the warning that I need a newer version of numbers to open the spreadsheet. However, numbers is up to date (version 3.2.2). Also, the App store says there are no updates available.
The problem only occurred after I opened that spreadsheet on my iPad (running ios 8).
My macBook pro (mid 2010) runs OSX 10.9.5.
Can anyone help me fix the issue?
I tried updating software, restarting Numbers and restarting the computer.
Thanks,
IveHi Ive-P,
While Numbers 3 is installed '09 is still on your machine. If you try to open a 3 file from '09 you will get that message. Wayne has a fuller explaination here.
Need newer version of Numbers to open file
