Tiger 10.4.5 on a Cube: add Classic?

I have a 450MHz Cube, which had the drive reformatted and the Retail Tiger 10.4.4 installed; this is updated to 10.4.5. I have a 'Power Mac G4 Software Install' disk, part#691-2996-A, with OS 9.2.
Can I get from here to a working Classic environment? If so, how? Does OS 9.2 install with Tiger running, as an application, or do I boot from the installation disk and proceed from there?
While Apple has done it's damndest to pretend that OS 9 has just gone away, those of us with major software investments in the old system can't afford to just dump everything. My updated PM 7300 is dying of old age, I need to migrate!

I don't think you can use that disk, Edward.
You should use either a white generic retail or a grey Cube-specific OS 9 installer.
Failing those you could use a Restore, but not an install disk from most Macs to get Classic that will work with your X, but if the disk came from a different Mac, the 9 system Folder should be stuck with Classic, and not boot in pure OS 9.
Restore disks from some Macs will try not to work with other models, including the cube, but you would get round that by opening the disk and depending on the version, either manually drag-copying the System Folder from inside a folder with a name like Configurations, or using Disk Utility to mount a .img disk image from inside a folder with a name like Configurations and dragging out a System Folder from that…
Either way, remember you are looking for a System Folder that's hidden inside a folder with a name like Configurations, not the System Folder on the root level of the Restore disk, which is a cut-down version that won't work from a normal hard drive.
If you're running a 9 Install or Restore utility, you would be booted from the CD; if you're trying the manual extraction you be booted normally in X
Please remember also that not everything that works in pure OS 9, works in Classic - happily your Cube can boot in pure 9 instead of X for Classic, but you'd still have to choose one for each session…
You might like to work with separate 9 System Folder copies for pure and Classic 9, so you can keep different configurations that don't interfere with each other

Installing Panther or Tiger on a G4 450 mhz cube

I have hung on to using OS 9.2.2 on my Cube, and although I have OS 10.1 installed I have never really found it useful. Now though, I am having problems with the browsers I can use with OS 9 on internet scearches ( I mostly use the wamcom version of mozilla now, and I-Cab sometimes). The only way I can see to solve the problem is to install 10.3x or 10.4x and then I can use the safari browser.
Panther and Tiger are both still available if I do a google search. Some versions might be knock-offs and I don't want to waste money if they won't work. Then I worry if I buy a used copy if I will run into pass-word problems. What is my safest way to proceed, and which version should I get.

I think you misunderstood the rep. Tiger can definitely do Classic to run Mac OS 9 programs. I think he meant that the Tiger package does not include a Mac OS 9 installer. As long as you already have Mac OS 9.2.2 installed, you can boot from it and use it for Classic.

You don't have to buy from OWC, but those are the specs. Get the largest one you can afford to add to what you have. Hopefully, you still have a slot open.
I'd get Tiger instead of Panther. Software availability is why you are upgrading from Mac OS 9. If you get Panther, you can't even run the latest version of Safari. There are good browser alternatives, but going forward, more and more software will require Tiger or later.

Tiger disks won't mount on Cube

My friend has a G4 Cube and I told him about Tiger and he went out and bought the retail version.
When he puts the disk in, it does not show up on the desktop.
I even took my OSX disks (MacBookPro) over to see if it was something wrong with his disks and they would not mount either.
A G4 has enough power, it has a DVD drive, what is the issue?

The MAc G4 cube is supported. So perhaps it is the disks he is using. Are they the full boxed black retail disks with the X and NOT gray ones?

I can't boot in OS9, so the usual System 9 CDs don't work.
And no, I don't have an older Mac around.

I was lucky, my iBook came with software CDs for both 10.3 and 10.4. I was able to install os9 through one of the 10.3 discs. I'm pretty sure Tiger comes with classic emulation, or at least the control panel which only shows up when os9 is fully functional on the computer. So all you need to do is download Classic Environment from somewhere or find someone who has software discs prior Tiger.

I'm new to posting in forums & unsure about which OS to post in.
I run a Mac computer lab at an elementary school. I need to add some licensed software that only works on OS 9. How do I do that without losing the ability to use the OS 10.3.9 & 10.2.8 programs which I mistakenly deleted before upgrading?
eMac info: PPC G4 1.25 &1 GHz, 256MB DDR SDRAM, HD-40GB, OS 10.3.5 upgraded to 10.3.9. Also have PPC G4 800GHz, 128MB RAM, HD-38GB OS 9.2.2 upgraded to 10.2.8.
My experience is mostly PC but I'm slowly learning Mac.
Ideas anyone? I need this for a class on Fri or Mon.

With regard to the eMac models, Classic (OS 9) can be installed only from the original disk set that came with each machine; the specifics of doing so vary a bit depending upon what the original OSX version was for each machine. Although all eMacs can use OS 9 as Classic, not all are OS 9 bootable. The 1.25GHz eMac models are not OS 9 bootable; the 1.0GHz models are OS 9 bootable only if the machine has ATI Graphics and the original optical drive is not a Superdrive.

With regard to the G4 800MHz model, that would be a G4 Quicksilver (2002) model. It is OS 9 bootable, but only using the model-specific version of OS 9.2.2 which shipped with the machine on a stand-alone Software Install CD for OS 9; that disk is the only source for installiing OS 9 (Classic) on that machine.

If you do not need to boot any of the above machines to OS 9, and need to use it only as Classic, then you can copy a working OS 9.2.2 (or perhaps an OS 9.1 or 9.2.1) System Folder from another machine. This should work fine as Classic, but will not be able to boot the machine (even if it is OS 9 bootable).
On those machines which are OS 9 bootable, if the hard drive does not have OS 9 drivers installed (this can happen if the drive was formatted using OSX's Disk Utility and the option to install OS 9 drivers was not selected) then not only will the drive not be available when the machine is booted to OS 9 (such as to an OS 9 Install CD for machines capable of using one), it also can not be used for OS 9 booting. The absence of OS 9 drivers will not have any effect when using OS 9 as Classic.

Can I add Classic/9 support to my eMac running 10.4?

I recently bought an eMac via Craigslist. It seemed to run 10.3 fine, but I also need Classic support for some old games for my son. It didn't have an OS 9 System Folder on it. With some quick browsing, I thought I saw that this generation eMac (1.25 GHz CPU) would need 10.4 on it to enable classic mode. So, I dug out some 10.4 install disks and upgraded the system, but didn't see how to add OS 9x on it. I have OS 9 install disks too, but how to use them on this machine?
I started over expecting to see some OS 9 support options during partitioning process in Disk Utility, but didn't.
What am I missing?
I had my son's previous eMac set up the way it needed to be, but I don't recall the CPU speed and OS X version that I was using before it croaked. I THINK it was 1.0 GHz CPU and 1 GB RAM. I figured it was cheaper to get a functional eMac that I could re-configure for $50 than it was to have it repaired somewhere.

I stupidly bought a CD that needs Classic to run. I don't want to install Classic on my main system. Can I install it on a Firewire 800 external and expect it to work?

I remembered I had an old backup of a friend's Classic system on a LaCie Triple Interface drive. I connected it via Firewire 800. OS X found it, modified it, and aksed me to restart Classic. It worked fine. I was able to view an outdated presentation CD which required either Mac OS 8-9, or Windows.

How to add a time characterstic(date) to already loaded cube??

Hi All,
We have a cube loaded(by daily deltas) for more than two years now, how can we add a date to this cube, what are the possibilities??
1. do we need to delete all data,add that date ,reload??( quite tedious time consuming ,out of option for now)
2. jut add that date to new dimension, load from now on?? but we may need data from past for that characterstic.
3. if we copy that cube to another cube, add that char to old cube, then reload data from copied cube to old cube. is it possible to load all the data for that new filed for last two years??
Please let me know the successful solutions as iam doing it in production system.

ya that might be possible,but that charaterstic cannot be derived from the data present in cube as it needs to be derived from R/3 by changing the extract program of that cube.
the plan is to create new cube with similar structure of old one plus this new date field,populate this new cube for say required years data, then generate query as using these two cubes in multiprovider.
do u have any alternate solution for this

How ADD Times-Roman font

Times New Roman in MS Word in Tiger differs substantially from Times-Roman.
Currently working with text scanned from book which uses Times-Roman and need to add chapters.
While I can add text in THAT font style INSIDE the text from the scan, unable to create new paragraphs in it, always comes up in Times New Roman.
Years ago there was a way to capture the hidden code at the end of a paragraph (regarding font, etc)
and use it on other documents, but unable to achieve that in Tiger.
Were can I obtain, and add it, to the fonts that open in MSWord X Service Release 1 or Tex-Edit??

Now, there are a few other Fonts that steal Times' Font number, have you investigated that angle?
Not sure what you mean about a font 'number' as I only saw it when I was working in Text Edit.
Internaly the OS doesn't use the name, but a number, some "cheap" Fonts have a completely different name but use Times' number, in Font Book lok for something like Duplicated Fonts... not on Tiger/10.4 at the moment.
I tried to find the old font but have been unable to get it.

Cube empty but request ok ?

Some days ago, I did a changes in a cube (add a new key figure).
Today( I guess other days too), I can see that this cube isn't fill for 01.2007 data's ( month agregation cube ), though I can see requests available ( when manage this cube ).
and the daily delta works fine !
Where can be the problem plz ?

When I look at the infopackage in the monitor, it updates my two cubes with more than 4000 records...
In the request Tab of the cube I can see all request are available.

E mann asked me to explain the cube effect I did:
I used PE3.
The cube:
Bring 3 clips into the timeline, each on a separate track.In properties reduce the scale of each one and move them so they are all visible. I found a picture of a cube that I like on the net, copied and brought it into the project as a guide, on a track beneath all the video clips. (Keeping the cube large makes it easier to align the clips)
Take one of the video clips, rotate and drag it to align with a corner of one section of the cube. Apply the corner pin filter to the clip. In the properties window highlight Corner Pin and the handles will appear around the clip. Now just drag each handle until the clip fits the section of the cube. Do this with all 3 clips. If you want a title on the cube, add it.
When you are done, delete the cube photo. Then export the movie.

For the tumbling:
Bring the cube movie you just saved into a new project. Now you can scale down the size of the video cube to whatever suits you. Move the cube to a corner to start. Toggle motion animation on, that's your 1st key frame. Then move the the video ahead X number of frames and drag the frame to a new location and set a new keyframe. Keep doing this till you have the paths complete.

Once you have the path right, set the rotation as you want it for each key frame. Start at the 2nd key frame and type in the amount of rotation you want between key frame 1 & 2. (Note: minus values rotate counter clockwise) If you want it to rotate more than a full turn put in some like -600, when you hit enter it will show as -1X-240.0 which equals 1 full turn counter clockwise plus 240 degrees. (-2X would be 2 full rotations and so on) Fine tune the rotation manually to get it where you want it. Do this at each key frame.
When you're done, export this too. All done. Hope I was clear.

That's why I suggested this thread be started. I would like to hear what others are doing to get new ideas, likely there are many things people are doing which I would never have thought of on my own.

G4 Cube unable to book past grey screen!!!!

Hi All, I just installed Tiger 10.4 onto my G4 Cube, I then inserted a disk where I had the combo update for 10.4.11 and got halfway through installing when I turned the computer off by mistake. I turned it back on but it will only boot as far as the grey apple screen and I cannot eject the disk. I have tried booting in target mode and attaching to my macbook to try and eject the disk that way but the G4 cube disk does not show on the macbook. Does anyone know how to get around this as I cannot think of anything to do to get the computer back up and running...........

Hey many thanks for that, finally got the disc out. However, I am still having major problems. I have reinstalled Tiger (Erase and install) twice now and everytime the installtion completes, the machine restarts, I get the grey apple screen with the whirling circle but then it just stops and freezes and i get no further. I have done this twice now and I am really worry something is wrong with the computer.
When the disc was originally stuck in the machine I noticed there are two very small buttons on the underside of the machine, one of then seems to just restart the computer and the other button gives you a screen saying something about firmware if you press it. I then typed mac-boot as per instructions on the screen but still no joy.....
I also just installed some extra RAM I am not sure if this would affect anything?
Can someone please help me out as I am getting very desperate here as I only had the cube one day
