Tiger 10.4 upgrade to 10.4.1

Recently purchase iLife 06, but when I tried to load got an error message "iLife ’06 requires Mac OS X version 10.4.3 or later. To update your system software, choose Apple () > Software Update.". I have 10.4 Tiger, so i decided to upgrade 10.4 to 10.4.1, with the aim of get to the required 10.4.3. in various increments. Downloaded the 10.4.1 upgrade and went to load but got the following error message when sellecting a desination drive (auomatically defaults to hard drive) "when installing this software requires 103MB of space. You cannot install Mac OS W server update on this volume. The volume does not meet the requirement for this update." the hard drive has 132GB free.
What am I doing wrong.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
With your computer turned on and booted go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Open Disk Utility. Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel and First Aid in the main panel. Click on Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU.
With your computer connected to the internet, go to the Blue Apple (Apple Menu) and Select Software Update (second item down). This will open the software update application which will search for updates which your computer needs. You want to choose the Combo Update for your computer which will bring your OS fully up-to-date. While there you should install the other updates, too.
After updates have been successfully installed open Disk Utility and repair Disk Permissions again.
Good luck.

  • Can I get Tiger cheaper by upgrading from Panther?

Hi, I was wondering if I could get Tiger cheaper by upgrading from Panther. Is there such an option? I would prefer it as I am going to buy new system soon but I need tiger for next few weeks but don't want to pay the full amount. Any suggestions?

    No you can't.
The price for the Tiger retail install package is the same regardless which OS X version you are upgrading from.

  • Will Quicken designed for Tiger or later upgraded to Lion run on Leopard?

There is now a 2007 QUICKEN (Tiger or later)  upgrade for Lion.  Will the upgrade run on my OS 10.6.8???

It should if you upgrade to 10.6.8 if your profile is correct, as it says you are running 10.6.5
    Run this update:
    ttp://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then run software update, as there will most likely be a few more. Run them one at a time.
As with updates, always do a back up before, in case some thing goes wrong. I suggest using an ethernet connection if available, as it is faster and much more less peone to corruption than wireless.
    Hope this helps

I am running 10.3.9 and trying to upgrade to tiger 10.4. When i put the disk in absolutely nothing happens. my computer can not even find it. I normally dont have this problem. How do i install this. Also will this disk work with my computer? it is Mac OS Tiger upgrade dvd with Xcode 2, which i have no idea what that means. any help is appreciated!

    phnxxx4, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Is the DVD you have black or gray?
Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A and M9639Z/A . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray).

  • ICal birthday calendar from Tiger missing after upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Tiger to 10.6.7 Leopard.  I noticed that iCal did not import my Birthday's calendar that I had manually created in Tiger.  None of my birthdays show up except for one when I select "show birthday calendar" in iCal preferences.  I have done the following:
Removed from Leopard and replaced with my Tiger data the following:
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
I have also removed the iCal folder in the Application Support folder in my Library.  After I did this I reopened iCal.
That didn't work so I tried removing the Calendars folder from my Library and reopened iCal to no avail.
I also rebooted into Tiger on my external to verify that the missing "birthday' calendar is still there, and it is.
I tried backing it up when I was in Tiger, than rebooting in Leopard and tried importing the backup to no avail also.
    Any other suggestions?
Edit:  The calendar that I had created "Birthdays" does show up under "On my Mac", but the actual birthdays are nowhere to be found.

The birthdays for the iCal birthday calendar are taken from your address book
You will need to have one contact page and one birthday in your address book for each person.
Otherwise enter the names onto the correct dates in iCal and set them to repeat each year which is what I have done. I run couples and families in my address book.. Most of the Grandkids don't have their own pages

  • Spotlight problem after Tiger to Leopard Upgrade

Since I upgraded my Macbook Pro 15" from Tiger to Leopard, Spotlight never worked. Initially I didn't mind too much but now I want to get it work.
I tried all suggestions I found in this forum (see list below) to no avail.
It seems Mac OS cannot index the system disk.
Any Terminal command like mdutil or mdimport have no effect and return no info. As a check, I ran the same utilities on my iMac (same Leopard version, but native) and they do in fact work as expected, as well as Spotlight. Another example: mdfind works on my iMac but return nothing on my MBP.
If I try the regular way, when I write my search string in the Spotlight window I just get nothing on my MBP.
I tried the OnyX features for Spotlight:
    - Maintenance/Rebuild/Spotlight Index seems to do something, but in fact it does nothing useful
    - Parameters/Spotlight/Options: Enable Indexing the Startup-Disk makes an attempt to enable it and switches immediately back to disabled. No way to keep the option checked. Also removed the Font cache from OnyX as suggested in some post - null.
    Some attempts I made:
    - used Disk Utility to check the disk (no repair needed)
    - used Disk Utility to repair permissions: there are many that are always repaired... this makes me feel the problem might in fact be in the permission area. But after many repair the result is always null.
    - added the start-up disk to the Privacy area in Spotlight Prefs, and later on removed - null
    - trashed com.apple.spotlight.plist pref user prefs - a new one was created but no effect
    - removed /.Spotlight-V100 from terminal - a new one was created but no effect
    - used mdutil -E and -i on and off - I always get the message "/: Indexing and searching disabled"
    - mdimport -L or -A or -X return nothing (on my iMac they return the list of plugins, schema etc.)
    - rebooted many times also in safe mode - null
    - the problem exists also for the other user on the same MBP
    - tried OnyX as described above.
    No effect!!
Now my question is: what can I try next ?
I'm sure there is some parameter somewhere (some .plist ?) that can re-enable Spotlight. But which one and where ?
    Thanks in advance
    Piero

    Take a look at Spotless
    http://www.fixamac.net/software/spot2/index.php
It deals mainly with Spotlight indexes, but it also contains some diagnostics - its description includes the following:
Spotless will automatically find and delete the "mds-crash-state" file from selected volumes. The file may be created if the Metadata Server crashed or was unexpectedly closed during the indexing process. The presence of this file can prevent Spotlight from indexing the volume in the future.
Spotless allows you to see exact size of the index directory on each volume.
Spotless also includes an on/off switch for Spotlight.

  • Mac mini 10.4 tiger can it upgrade

Can a Mac mini os 10.4 tiger be upgraded?

Does the Mini have an Intel CoreSolo. CoreDuo. Core2Duo...?
Early models of these shipped with Tiger OS X 10.4, too.
If the computer is an intel-based Mini, and not a Power-PC based Mini
then it could run an OS X later than Leopard 10.5.8. The Intel-based
models can run Snow Leopard (retail DVD) 10.6, & get a combo update
download 10.6.8. A RAM upgrade may be necessary for best performance.
So you could reply to this if so, then more info could follow.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Issues after Tiger to SL Upgrade

About 5 months ago I upgraded from Tiger to SL... although Tiger never gave me any issues I wanted to be on the latest version. I have an older MAC so needed to upgrade via the (expensive) Box Set. I did the change via the "upgrade" and not the complete install (erase disk). Since then upgrade my MAC has given me issues... it freezes at times requiring a hard shutdown... other times the graphics do not refresh.. the desktop icons tun into horizontal lines... again requiring a hard shutdown. I ran the Apple hardware test and no errors were identified.
I can not find the common cause... there does not appear to be any common events before the problems. The only key change in the use of the MAC is my wife's use of FACEBOOK games... especially the farming ones... I've installed FireFox for her just for those games as she say's the games don;t work right in Safari (and of course not on the iPad)...
Do I need to do a complete install of SL? Any other suggestions ? Thanks in advance...

DaddyPaycheck, could you please explain why you ask what external peripherals he has attached. I'm not being snarky — I am just curious because I also had random freezing of programs after upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger. After a month of trying various fixes, including more than one clean install and taking my computer into a shop (they could not replicate my problem, and my computer passed their diagnostic tests with no issues), I gave up on Snow Leopard and reinstalled Tiger, which runs just fine on my computer.
Anyway, the fact that my computer seemed to run fine on Snow Leopard in the shop made me wonder if my peripherals were the culprit, since they weren't attached when the computer was in the shop. All I have hooked up to my computer is an HP Deskjet F4180 printer and a Lacie external hard drive. BUT, while they are plugged into the USB ports on my iMac, both are ALWAYS turned off unless I'm actually using them. Could simply having these external peripherals plugged into my computer — and not actually being "on" — cause the problem I was having?
I've been monitoring Apple Discussions for a couple of months now, and plenty of people are experiencing graphics-related problems and freezing using Snow Leopard, so it seems the problem goes deeper than just the peripherals. In my own case, I'm guessing my mid-2007 iMac just isn't up to running Snow Leopard despite Apple's insistence it is. I don't know what I would do if it turned out the problem actually is caused by my peripherals. After having already spent a couple of hundred dollars on Snow Leopard and iLife 11 and the computer repair shop, I don't feel like buying a new printer and/or external hard drive just so I can use Snow Leopard. Still, as I said, I'm curious to know what you know about whether peripherals could be causing our problems.
    Thanks.

  • Getting rid of Tiger after successful upgrade?

If I'm satisfied with Leopard and did an upgrade is there an easy way to get rid of Tiger?

Thought this was only the case if you did archive and install as opposed to the upgrade install?
The Archive and Install setup says something like "you will not be able to boot into your previous operating system" leaving the impression that if you do the Upgrade Install (listed above the Archive and Install) you will be able to revert to prior op sys.
    Not so?

  • Tiger 10.4 Upgrade - Computer frozen

I have upgraded my iBook G4 to Tiger with an Apple upgrade DVD. The upgrade worked and Tiger was properly installed. Following the upgrade, I checked for software updates on the Apple website and I tried to install an update for Tiger called Tiger 10.4.11 (powerPC). (I wonder if I should not have done so in hindsight). At the end of the installation, I was told to restart my computer. I did so, and now my computer will not boot. I simply get a grey screen with the Apple logo. I have used the Disk Utility which has confirmed that my HD is fine and I also performed a hardware test which was clear, so I am not sure what to do now. I have tried to re-install the Tiger upgrade but this does not resolve the issue.

  • Still any Tiger to Leopard upgrade issues?

For reasons far to boring to explain I purchased Leopard when it was first released (so its a vanilla 10.5.0 disc) but never was able to install. My Macbook Pro (15" 2.2) has an up too date Tiger install and finally I have time to upgrade. i know at the start there were frequent reports of people having real trouble upgrading (a friend of mine, after a week of stress did a fresh wipe and install to fix his errors) and I wanted to know if this is still the case with a 10.5.0 version?
    {I will be superdupering a backup of my current set up just in case.}
    Thanks!

Once you've made your bootable backup/clone and tested it, see these for info on the three installation options:

  • Boot Camp on MBPro/w Tiger - want to upgrade to Leopard & keep Pc Partition

I've got a MacBook Pro running Tiger with the original Boot Camp Beta PC Partition that I want to upgrade to Leopard, but I don't want to have to re-install everything into the PC partition. I want to be able to take advantage of the newer features of the latest Boot Camp. Is this possible?

Just upgrade your OS X, then do [this|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/15553.html].

  • How do I back up or save my tiger os before upgrading to Snowleopard

How do I back up or save my Tiger OS before I start the upgrade to Snowleopard?  Will the install ask me or do I have to do that first?  Also, if I don't save it willnI lose all my files?  Music, pics, docs, etc?  Thanks!

You should do regular backups, not just when you're going to do major surgery on your Mac.
If your internal HD fails, or gets hopelessly corrupted, or your Mac is lost or stolen, you lose everything.
You already have Time Machine.  You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

You will need to upgrade Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 2 for Lion or ML. CS3 version 10 will work.
Mac OS X Leopard discs are expensive. Snow Leopard requires an Intel CPU.
