Tiger/OS9.2 installation and Booting issues  among multiple HD's

G4 PCI, (thats bootable in 9, must be booted in 9 to use an essential business app). It has 2 HD's: an 80 G ata for OS9 & apps, & OSX (from Jag - Tiger, w/minimal apps&files. I later added a SATA 320G driven by a SIIG, pci card. The 320G became the main Tiger,X Apps & files HD, the smaller one for OS9 only, & Tiger emergency boot. The 80G died, but I was able to clone everything on it to a 10G ATA, that was then installed in the G4 so I could run the business app.
I also cloned the dying ATA HD to an empty 114G partition on the Large SATA HD. The idea was to transfer the os9 & Business app to a large partition bec it needed normal space. I couldn't get the G4 to boot in 9 from that partition, though it was a clone of the ATA HD??
**1. The OSX "Startup Disk CP" in the Large SATA HD, sees both Tigers and Both 9's in both HD's. I can restart directly into the Small ATA HD's X or 9. It will not boot into its own 9, though the CP sees it, and allows me to choose it. Itwill auto restarts back in its X, after a blank grey screen while it trys to make sense of whatever it sees in the 9 partition. This 9 is a clone of the ATA HD's perfectly working 9.
**2.When happilyrunnibg in the Small ATA's 9, its "Startup Disk CP" only sees its own X & 9, it doesn't see the SATA HD at all....To get back to the Large HD X, I must first reboot into the Small HD's X, then its Startup Disk CP sees the Large SATA's X & 9. I can then reboot into the Large X, but again not into the Large 9 (same deal as above).
**3.I tried to clone the ATA Disk (working 9&X) to a new external USB HD's 100G partition. It took forever. The SATA CP saw both in the Ext HD,but wouldn't boot in either in either. The ATA saw both but wouldn't boot.Scarey, very nasty freeze/crash, that refused to find any ogood OS.I
**Apple-C, with the 9 CD didn't work... grey dead screen, so I couldn't install a new 9 on the SATA, if it could be found?. I had to use the X disk CP to find a working OS. I Don't want to tell you how many hours of crash restarts with & without the Tiger Disk and repairs I went thru.
** How can I install 9 & its apps, to the large SATA partition?**Why didn't the cloned 9 work on the SATA?** Why does the ATA Startup Disk CP, not see the SATA?**Why do both HD's Startup CP see the EXT usb's 9 & X, allow you to choose them, when they are not bootable? Why are they not bootable? Help!Help!Help! Thanks so much. Totally exhausted! I know the easy answer is getting a new 80G ata and cloning the working 10G to that one, but why won't the SATA work???

Maybe the drive is using a GUID partition table. Tiger can read and write GUID drives, but PPC Macs can't boot from them. Select the drive (all the way at the left, not the volume indented below it) in Disk Utility, and look at the bottom-right of the window for "Partition Map Scheme". You need "Apple Partition Map" for it to be bootable by a PPC Mac. This is selectable via the "Options" button in Disk Utility's "Partition" tab.
Also, for OS 9 to boot, you have to chose the option to install OS 9 drivers when you initialize the drive.

  • Faulty Installation and Unique Issues

First of all, I'll tell you I'm in the middle of Nowhere, China and no one here knows what Apple, Mac, or FireWire means in Chinese or English. It's just not known here.
My MacBook suffered a loss of power today during an upgrade to Leopard that I had been putting off. Now I can start from the Installation Disc, but if I select "Macintosh HD" at startup, I eventually get delivered to a grey screen that goes nowhere. Starting from the disc to try to reinstall presents the problem of not enough storage space now that the faulty install has eaten up a good 7 or so GB. I tell you I'm in China because I can't find a FireWire here to use in Target Disk Mode and the government has issued a halt on the mailing of any electronic equipment until November 1, 2008, because of the Olympics. Now I have a brick instead of a MacBook that I'm not willing to clean install because it's LOADED with irreplaceable data that I can't transfer (to my knowledge, which is where you come in) at this point. I still have the option to run utilities when the installation disk is in, but am not experienced enough to know without your help how to make a backup to any kind of external disk from there. Also, if there's a way to just reverse what changes were made in the faulty installation from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1, I'd be more than happy to hear those or any other solutions you have to offer. Thanks a million!!

If you can boot with the install disks and can hook up an external HD, then use Disk Utility to create an image of the hosed internal HD (result of interrupted installation) onto the ext HD. Then, wipe and reinstall Leopard (since I'm assuming that you failed to make a bootable backup of your Tiger installation), boot into the installation, mount the disk image, and try to use the Migration Assistant to transfer user and network settings.

  • Installation and Other Issues

I recently upgraded from Crystal 11.5 to Crystal 2008.  Since then I have been battling a host of problems trying to make this work.  This is the latest.
I had a problem running some older reports in a web application.  I was getting the Login Failed error, which can mean about anything.  So I was going to upgrade the report definition to the new Crystal 2008 format.  Since I installed Crystal 2008, I have been having an issue with the report designer.  The disoplay would not refresh the background.  Whatever was on the screen when you opened the designer was in teh background and if you opened a dialog while in the designer, it remained on the screen even though the function completed successfully.  This confusing display made the designer impossible to work with.
So I decided to reinstall Crystal 2008 to see if there was something wrong in the setup.  I opend control panel and uninstalled all the crystal 2008 components, which included Crystal 2008 SP2, Crystal 2008 SP3 and one other component.  All the uninstalls ran successfully.  I still have Crystal Reports XI release 2 installed.
I tried to run the install for Crystal.  The install runs fine until it comes to the section to register the dll's.  Then it fails.  Below is the first message that I get. After that I get the same message for every module to be registered.
    Error 1904. Module C: u2018program Files\BusinessObjects\BusinessQbjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\ReportConvTool .dll failed to register.
HRESULT -2147024770. Contact your support personnel.
I have every version of the .Net framework on this machine and they are all up to the most current level.  I have Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 on this machine as well.  I am an administrator, and I do not have permission issues.
I am getting very weary of dealing with Crystal Reports technical problems.  Nothing should be this difficult to make it work out of the box.  Can someone help me.

    Hello,
PLEASE don't post the same question in multiple forums.
Install SP3 and test again and then search this for forum as well as Microsoft's site for the 1904 error. It's an MSIExec error code. Typically it's missing Windows dependencies or your PC needs to upgrade the MS Installer program.
Usually when dll's fail to register is because the OS is missing windows dependencies and likely the C++ runtime package.
    Thank you

  • X220 resume from sleep and boot issues

This is driving me crazy! I have an X220 with Windows 8 and UEFI boot installed.
It all started when I first installed Windows 8 a few months ago which required me to update my BIOS to the latest version. The installation process often got stuck when booting from the Installation CD (the round circle stopped spinning, the display was at full brightness). Eventually I managed to boot into the Installer (when the boot logo doesn't get stuck, the display is then dimmed to minimum).
I was quite happy to have a superfast lightweight OS which booted in an instant.. When suddenly it started to get stuck when booting (same issue with the boot logo not spinning anymore). This happens quite randomly, but I often manage to boot (maybe 2-3 times a week, I don't boot often though..). Now, the booting hangs are less of an issue for me but more often that that it fails to resume from sleep. The LEDs flash and then it instantly drops to sleep mode again (well at least the sleep/moon LED is active). This happens quite often as I sleep/resume up to 5-10 times a day (changing lecture rooms, meeting rooms, save battery when the lectures are boring, ...)
Now after researching and spending hours in debugging this issue, it seems that I'm not the only one having this (or a similar) issue, but often without any definitive solution being specified.
This is what I have already tried:
    * Upgrade BIOS and SSD firmware to latest
    * Install/update latest drivers
    * Mess around with BIOS options
    ** UEFI/Legacy First options
    ** Intel Virtualization/vt-d
    ** Others..
I know based on other threads that I'm not the only one experiencing exactly these issues. Has anyone managed to fix this?
    Thank's in advance
    Fabio Scala

I had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since

  • Windows 8.1 Install loop and boot issue

    Hi
I have two harddrives in my desktop. I used to use one for my Windows 7 boot and one for data.
Now I partitioned my C: drive for windows 7 as well as data, and I formatted my second HDD to install windows
    8 on.
I burned my ISO to USB using rufus, no problems there. Once in the setup of windows 8, I used the command prompt
to clean my disk and convert it to GPT. (I first tried to install windows 8 on a partition of the same disk win7 runs on, but I'd have to clean the disk to convert it, which would mean I'd lose my win7 boot and files).
The setup continues and all seems to go well. I get to the point where it says "Finalizing setup"
and then it says it will reboot in 10 seconds. Now here's where the problem shows up. When it reboots, it restarts the setup all over again, instead of showing the usual "personalizing" phase.
I tried unplugging my USB during the reboot so it wouldn't boot to that, to no effect. I also checked in my
UEFI setup what my primary boot device was: "Windows Boot Manager". If I changed it to either of the other two options (SATA's), it booted my Windows 7. It seems as though it doesn't properly display the disk to which I installed windows 8, as it
either restarts the setup or boots the other OS.
If I check my disks when in Win 7, it shows the disk to which I installed win 8. It then has all the folders
in it you'd expect when you installed an OS on it, such as Windows, Program Files, ...
The only thing I notice that might be strange during the installation process is that, when you check the drivers
of the disk I'm installing to, it doesn't display any. In all the tutorials I've read through though, it doesn't say anywhere that you have to provide those yourself.
Any ideas as to what might be the problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Pleas make sure to boot your PC into UEFI mode, If you install Windows using the wrong mode, you won’t be able to use the features of that firmware mode without reformatting the drive

Does drive: C on this disk? If you want to convert the disk to GPT, make sure that the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes before you setup Windows 8, otherwise you will lose data.
Lastly, please make sure the bootable usb drive you manually created is not corrupted.

  • Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection Installation and support Issue

My windows 7 operating system became corrupted and I needed to do a fresh installation of both the operating system and the the creative suite.
After installing both the operating system and the creative suite I received an error saying that the program has not installed correctly and to contact support.
I contacted support and I was told support wouldn't help me correct the problem and to ask the forum on how to fix this issue.
Any help on how to resolve this issue would be great!

  • Installation and compatibility issues with photoshop CS4 - Win 8

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8. I am experiencing issues when attempting to install the downloaded and upgrade copy of photoshop CS4. Initially unpacking the software presented issues, but I believe they've been resolved - specifically I had to change the folder attribute from read only  while unpacking, of course the tedium arose when this endeavor didn't seem to apply the new attributes to all subfolders and files. I percivered though by repeating it for each folder throughout. When I select the icon for the setup.exe file though the process ends as quickly as it began. I considered that it my have been seeking the previous version (in my case photoshop elements) so I sought to install it first, but as you may have guessed the old software is experiencing it's own compatibility issues. Does anyone know if photoshop CS4 will even work in Windows 8, and I hope someone will have already cleared this hurdle and can give me direction - please, I really am hoping for a life preserver here!
    Thankyou, Chris
PS I did attempt to open one of the attached adobe reader files that came with the downloaded copy, but unfortunately they won't open prior to installation given they show the file size 0kb. I don't know if these files are simply acting as place holders for the cab files - or whether there remains an issue while unpacking the files to begin with.

If the executable doesn't even run, it's either being shut down by some security stuff on your system or can't find a component. Impossible to tell. whiel there may be compatibility issues, on a more general level CS4 should run on Win 8...

  • Two independent installation and performance issue

    Hi,
We have installed two independent DBs (11gr2 enterprise 64 bit)on a large box with 80 cores 256GB RAM.
The data files for both DBs are on ram. The objective is to find if we can double perf number with two instances.
What we see is that when both instances are run the "log file sync" event takes 5 times more time (there are other wait events also go up).
    db2: (when db2 running alone)
    log file sync 202,445 21 0 .9 Commit
    db2: (when db1 & db2 running together)
    log file sync 267,512 97 0 4.5 Commit
The CPU load average -1 comes down from
14.1 to 1.68 though CPU utilization jumps from 41% to 82%.
There are two independent installations. We are trying to find out how one instance of DB can affect other (make other wait more), unless there is an underlying issue in the common resource used by both.
The SGAs should be allocated and accessed by DBs separately, right?
    ipcs -m shows:
    ------ Shared Memory Segments --------
key shmid owner perms bytes nattch status

    0xcd05b8c4 622594 oracle 660 4096 0
if we turn off one db then

    0xcd05b8c4 622594 oracle 660 4096 0
I am not very familiar oracle and do not know how to find memory layout of oracle DB. Any help/pointer is appreciated.
What is the best way to find out that two DBs do not share the same SGA/resources?
The two DBS have everything different except ora inventory.

Without a lot more information there really isn't much one can say other than that, properly installed, the two should be completely independent of each other.
That said it seems that is not the case which takes us back to what none of us out here can know ... what isn't as you assume it should be.
What is most confusing to me is this statement:
The data files for both DBs are on ram. The objective is to find if we can double perf number with two instances.I have no idea what either sentence is intended to mean. The first because datafiles are not "on RAM" and the second because two instances will never double anything other than resource utilization and overhead.

  • Strange noises and booting issues

    Hi,
My MacBook froze up this afternoon and started making strange clicking noises that sounded like someone typing on a computer. Because all my applications were completely frozen, I went to reboot, but now it is stuck on the loading screen. Is this because I have a CD in the CD drive and it is trying to boot from that? If so how do I get it out?

Sounds like your hard drive may have failed. Try booting from the Mac OS X installation DVD that came with your system (hold down keyboard "c" key during startup), then run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu before actually beginning the OS X install process.
If you have a non-startup DVD stuck in the optical drive, just hold down the keyboard eject button during startup to eject it.

  • CS5 Installation and Update issues

I am trying to re-install Photoshop CS5 onto my Win 7 Ultimate System. I know from previously installing it several years ago that there was an issue with installing it with Adobe Raeder on a system. Something to do with folder location issues. I have tried re-installing CS5 and it does install (apparently Reader issue solved(?)). Both 32bit and 64bit seem to install ok. I can open Photoshop and access the program.
Problem:  When I try to do updates for the software, that are available, they download and then hang on install. The Adobe installer stops responding and nothing installs.
Could someone pleas assist me with this issue.
    Thank You

  • Installation and boot rescue

    Just installed arch linux 0.7.1
Everything is smoooooth, I was able to play video, music, connect with ADSL modem and now Iam in FireFox, there are two problems however:
    - I needed to install base packages only, then add everything manually, because when I select all packages - there were conflicts or errors, and each time I need to select packages from start (installed don't remember anything!)
    - rescue doesn't work, even if I pass root=/dev/hda1 option it still run installation process, there is no /dev/hda1 mounted as /

Hope this helps... I got it right out of the Arch Installation Guide:
How do I reconfigure LILO from the rescue system?
As a first step you simply boot from the Arch Install CD or disks. If your partitions are intact and don't need checking, you should supply the root= kernel boot parameter as the instructions tell you. That will boot directly into your system, and you can skip all but the last step of actually reconfiguring and running lilo.
If you cannot boot your old root directly, boot the CD as if you were going to start an installation. Once you're in a shell, you mount the root partition of your harddisk into the /mnt directory, for example like this:
    # mount /dev/hda3 /mnt
Then you mount any other partitions to their respective mount points within that root of yours, for example a /boot partition:
    # mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/boot
Now you need to mount a /dev tree in the /mnt area, where lilo will be able to find it:
    # /mnt/bin/mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
Once everything is mounted, make this /mnt directory your new root with the chroot /mnt command. This will start a new shell and drop you into the /mnt directory, which will be considered your / from then on.
Now you can edit /etc/lilo.conf to your liking and run lilo to fix anything that needs fixing. Simply type exit when you want to break out of this root again, back into the original file tree. You can now reboot and test your changes.

  • MSI P55-GD80 - POST and boot issues

So I built my previous custom rig about 7 months ago and have had no problems up until about 2 weeks ago. My computer began to restart itself and hardlock with no warning. The only indication of what was happening was an IDE Controller error - Eventid: 11 / Source: atapi (most likely HD Cables or Motherboard), so I went out and got a new MSi P55-GD80 mobo today and put it in my computer with a new 850w antec psu. When I boot the computer, it hangs at a black screen for a long period of time (3-8m) and eventually it manages to POST. It doesn't allow me to enter the BIOS setup menu because the motherboard never initializes the setup of USB and other devices (debug code 38). By the time the computer boots to Windows (if at all), the debug code reads 33 and will slowly revert back to debug code 30 over time. I am not able to do anything while in windows due to a lack of mouse and keyboard. It doesn't seem like the motherboard is initializing all of the correct processes before moving on to the next, and I've never seen a motherboard just sit without POSTing for minutes at a time until initiating the motherboard splash logo. Do I need to RMA this motherboard or do you guys have any other ideas?
P.S: Yes, I am booting with one stick of ram in the first black slot closest to the CPU (second slot).

My computer was previously using the ASUS P7P55D EVO motherboard. I had no issues until I started receiving the IDE controller errors that would freeze up my computer endlessly.
So basically I swapped to the new MSI P55-GD80 motherboard on a freshly formatted SSD and am now encountering these strange POST issues.
Here's a walkthrough of what is currently happening to the machine when powered on with 1 stick of RAM in DIMM slot #1, no drives connected, video card/cpu only:
    1. Power button pushed.
    • Computer powers on.
    • Debug LED reads FF for 1 second
    • Debug LED reads d4 for 1/2 second
    • Debug LED reads d5 for 1/2 second
    • Debug LED reads 04 for 1/8 second
    • Debug LED reads 05 for 1/8 second
    • Debug LED reads 06 for ~45 seconds
    • Debug LED reads 0c for 3-5 minutes
    2. The computer sometimes POSTs at this point, with the Debug LED reading anywhere from 30-38 (it changes randomly, sometimes backwards after a period of time), or continues to sit at a black screen until restart.
    • It is still not possible to use any USB or PS2 devices at this point, so loading into the BIOS setup is not an option

  • Linux installation and display issues

    PROBLEM:
During installation, the following error occurs:
No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH
environment variable. You must install a VM prior to
    running this program.
    RESOLUTION:
Install Java 1.5 and make sure that it's in your PATH environment. To
    doublecheck that Java 1.5, simply
    type 'java -version'.
    PROBLEM:
When opening any display view, the following error occurs and nothing shows
    up:
ERROR GuardianApplication [main] : Registry does not exist, creating
    default registry
    Unhandled event loop exception
    Reason:
    No more handles (java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError:
    /<GUARDIAN_INSTALL_DIR>/configuration/
    org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/72/1/.cp/libswt-mozilla-gtk-3139.so: libstdc++.so.5:
    cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory)
    RESOLUTION:
Add your browser's library dependencies by editing the /etc/ld.so.conf and
    add /<PATH>/firefox or /
    <PATH>/mozilla directory.
    Example: /usr/lib/firefox-1.5.0.7
Make sure that the path to firefox or mozilla contains the
    /usr/lib/firefox-1.5.0.7/libxpcom.so. After
that, run ldconfig command to update your library.
Install compat-libstdc++-33 library. For Fedora users, simply type: "yum
    install compat-libstdc+
    +-33.i386" as root. Relaunch Guardian.

I am really interested on comments. Anyway check also those sites about Linux on Toshiba notebooks:

  • CRYSTAL Reports 2010 for VS 2010 Installation and Deployment issues

On Installing Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 the Crystal Report Viewer in the Toolbox reports itself as Version 13.0.2000.0. When dragging said viewer onto an ASPX Page it: -
    1) Comes up with the wrong version: - Assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304", NOT 13.0.2000.0!
    2) The ADE visualisation of the ASPX Page comes up with the following error: - "Error Creating Control - ContentPlaceHolder1. SessionState can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true. ...............
In my Web.Config file enableSessionState is set to true AND System.Web,SessionStateModule is referenced in <httpModules> the message is therefore less than helpful.
    3) Surprisingly when I correct the Version to 13.0.2000.0, the same error happens. Even more surprisingly the page builds and in the development environment the CrystalReportViewer works@#@!! Unfortunately when deployed to a production Web Serrver W2K8 x64 and IIS7.x the page loads but the viewer does not, no errors are caught, the event viewer log is happy. (The click-once Runtimes x32 and x64 have been installed on the server).
The same code works fine in VS2008 targetting CR 2008.
    How do I:
    1) Get CR2010 for VS2101 Installed Correctly?
    2) Deploy The Viewer to a production server?

This is a known issue (unfortunately, no KB created yet as I just duplicated and reported the issue to QA (tracking number; ADAPT01506220)  two days ago).
The issue appears only on computers with side by side install of .NET 2008 and .NET 2010.
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    1) Remove the following from the web.config:
    <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692FBEA5521E1304"/>
    <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.ReportSource, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692FBEA5521E1304"/>
    <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692FBEA5521E1304"/>
    2) Open the form that has the viewer on it, go to code behind and replace this:
    <%@ Register assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304" namespace="CrystalDecisions.Web"; tagprefix="CR" %>
    with:
    <%@ Register assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=13.0.2000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304" namespace="CrystalDecisions.Web"; tagprefix="CR" %>
    3) Go to the Properties of the project, select references and remove crystaldecisions.web of version 10.5.3700
    4) In the Properties, click the Add button and then the .NET tab and select crystaldecisions.web version 13.0.2000.0
    5) Recompile.
    Distribute the CRVS2010 runtime.
    MSM:

    32 bit MSI:
    http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_redist_install_32bit_13_0.zip
    64 bit MSI:
    http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_redist_install_64bit_13_0.zip
BTW. the same issue exists with WIN apps. The fix here is much easier; Remove all CR 10.5.3700 references from the project and add references to 13.0.2000 assemblies. (tracking number; ADAPT01506310).

  • Complex NAT and ACL issue with multiple VLANS

    Hello Forum.
We have about 12 different VLANS behind an ASA 5515-x. One of those vlans contains a webserver and a DNS server (different machines, different IP addresses). ASDM 7.1.3
From outside the firewall, people need to be able to get to the webserver via http, https and a custom  port (3390). From outside the firewall, no one needs DNS access.
From INSIDE the firewall, things are much more complicated. They need access to the DNS server from all VLANS and they need access to Webserver from all VLANS
The VLANS themselves are defined on the core switches, not the ASA The Vlan labels and network subnets increment by 5 (except in the first 5 numbers) and the VLAN subnets are equal to the vlan name. So for example VLAN 10 is on the 10.10.10.x subnet, vlan 20 is on the 10.10.20.x subnet, and so on. Each subnet is 24 bits
    WHAT WORKS:
Outside_in: http, RDP work fine. Pretty sure I will be able to get https myself, so not looking for help there
Inside_in: traffic from vlan 10 to vlan 5 works fine, but I think that is in part to the any any allow rule on the vlan 10 interface. Apart from that, all vlans can get out to the web, but they cannot get proper DNS resoliution or access the webserver across vlans
I have looked at the access lists, I have looked at NATting the DNS, but it is not working, and I am not sure why. Any assistance would be appreciated

Tried that, no joy. It said that the problem was a NAT issue, but I cannot figure it out. The NAT rule looks right, but is not because it doesn't work
