Tiger's Contextual Menus seem very slow

This has been bothering me for some time, so I thought I would see if anyone has a similar problem or a solution to speed things up.
Whenever I try to use the contextual menu in the finder by holding the control key when I click on something in the Finder, it seems to take forever for the menu to appear. The more items I select, the longer it takes. This is especially apparent with selecting picture files (which seem to take longer than other docs), where I will often even get the spinning beach ball.
When everything else about the system is fast, it seems strange that this simple operation would be so slow. And honestly, it makes accessing the Slideshow through the contextual menu, something that should be a great feature, worthless if you want to show more than 5-10 photos.

Do you have Stuffit Deluxe's Stuffit Contextual Menu plugin installed by any chance? It would be the following item:
/Library/Contextual Menu Items/StuffItCM.plugin
I've noticed that it can greatly impact the performance of the contextual menu in the Finder. Try disabling it temporarily (by moving it to the Desktop), and then relaunch the Finder to test the difference. At least for me, performance was back to normal.

I started on the installation CD OS X 10.4.2, I used Disk Utility
to partition the disk according to the document that you have proposed. unfortunately
I have not succeeded. When I partition the disk, even if I called it Macintosh HD, it
does not keep the name and it shows disk0s3 instead. I did an erase on disk.
When I mount the disk it tells me that I must repair. When I tried to repair, I got
the following message:
Volume check failed
The underflying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
I also had a message:
Invalid b-tree node size.
Note: The disc is new, but it has already been formatted on a computer Imac 27 inch 2011 OS X Lion.
I used a USB 2.0 to SATA cable to adjust the formatting.
What to do to fix it?

App store seems very slow

App store seems very slow on my MacBook Pro. If I turn off Keychain->Preferences->Certificates->CRL then it runs normally, but leaving this off might be a bad idea for security reasons. Is there a better solution?

If you have any third (application enhancers) apps such as Little Snitch or anti virus software installed, that could be why the App Store runs slow for you.

[Solved - ext4 is just super slow] New Install Seems Very Slow

After 8 years of Gentoo I decided to replace my main development box with Arch. No X, just screen, emacs, w3m, and various compilers/languages.
My old box is a 5 year old Gentoo box. AthlonXP 2200 (1.7Ghz), 512M.
The new Arch box is a based on a Shuttle K48. It's got an Intel E2200 (Dual Core, 2.2Ghz), 2G, new SATA drive.
Just to see I did a clean checkout of Clojure (a new JVM language) and did a "ant" on both boxes.
Gentoo: 20 Seconds
Arch: 51 Seconds
I don't think it's a Java issue (same JVM version btw), it's just the only thing I can really think to compare it against. When Arch hits the compile step I hear a fan go off and my hard drive light stays on for the durations. I used ext4 on the drives, gentoo is using reiser. Nothing else seems particularly slow, but I'm not doing anything on it really like I said. A pacman install will happen almost instantaneously (which after 8 years of Gentoo is a welcome change).
Anyone have any ideas? I'll post whatever info you think might be useful.

So I reinstalled with reiserfs so the comparison would be against the same filesystem type. The compile time on arch is now down to 20 seconds. It still doesn't make sense though. The compile is using 2 2.2Ghz cores, it should be crushing my old Gentoo box.
I might try again with ext3.
If anyone is curious if their ext4 shows similar issues try this (you'll need 15M on an ext2 /boot partition):
On an ext4 partition:
pacman -S svn
pacman -S jdk
pacman -S apache-ant
svn checkout http://clojure.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ clojure
cd clojure
ant [take note of time]
As root:
cd /boot
cp -R <path to where you checked out clojure> .
cd clojure
ant clean
ant [compare times]
Do it a few times, ant clean then ant on both partitions and see how you fare.

I had this problem for about a year or so. I can't remember how long I had it. I just began using safe mode all the time, so I could still use Thunderbird. I had already tried what Christ1 had recommended, too ("You can try to disable all extensions and then enable one at a time until Thunderbird starts getting slow again.").
Then one day fairly recently the problem just disappeared. I didn't do anything. I'd been upgrading Thunderbird regularly, all during the time I had the problem, too. And I'd already tried all the various solutions that had been offered on the web. It just magically disappeared one day. Oddly, I was kind of expecting that would happen. I'd just wanted it to work a lot sooner.

I have noticed that my iPhone 4 seems to run much slower since I upgraded to the new OS. Is this a known issue?

i have had the same problem on my iphone 4 since upgrading to IOS 4.2.
i tried deleting my apps, tried resetting it, tried doing a restore through itunes (twice, one as new phone, and one with a backup which gave errors), tried doing a factory reset on the phone itself - all of which made the phone much worse.
Vodafone are replacing my iphone on warranty.
it is worth trying the above diy repairs but yours is probably knackered permanently from the 4.2 upgrade like mine.
in future i wont be installing very many apps apart from mainstream apps, and i wont do the IOS upgrades until i have seen one month of good reviews on them.

Your iPad is covered by the normal warranty for one year. If you have AppleCare that extends the coverage. If you feel there is a problem with your wifi reception visit an Apple store with your iPad for a consultation. Be sure to make an appointment before you go.

Downloads have seemed very slow lately...with a lot of buffering on videos etc.

What a mess. Ok so I ckecked out MacKeeper and supposedly ran a scan on my computer that came back with critical issues. I used MacKeeper to clean but of course it won't really clean unless you purchase. Now my browser is mess up so that FaceBook and YouTube won't display properly and on top of that it's still hanging. Safari seems to be working but I use Firefox as my default. Can I back up to where I was before I downloaded MacKeeper?

InDesign problem With Https cURL Seems Very Slow at first time to handshaking to server

I am trying to connect the server using cURL from Indesign, but when i am trying to call to server the indesign takes so much time to open and initialize the socket it takes 25 seconds at first time only, but On all subsequent calls it is fast,

I was tempted to move this over to the InDesign SDK forum where there are coders, but there isn't a lot of traffic over there, so I'm going to leave this open here with the advice that you probably won't get an answer from anyone here becasue we are, for the most part, not folks who work with code beyond scripting (and very few scripters hang out here, either).
You should cross-post over there yourself and hope someone who understnds the qusetion sees it in one place or the other.

New download of Firefox v. 3.6 for Vista seems very slow. Can anyone think of why this would happen?

First, I didn't install Firefox 4 because it doesn't support Norton 360 and the related toolbar which is crucial to me. So I installed 3.6 which I have used before which was corrupted by a Trojan virus I was infected with. I had to uninstall everything and in the interim I used IE8. I re-installed Firefox 3.6 yesterday and the only add-on I installed was the Yahoo! Toolbar for Firefox.

Also, I forgot to add that often times I am waiting while the top of the screen says "Mozilla Firefox" - (Not Responding) which is what I went through with IE8. I'm getting VERY frustrated.

If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Last but not least, consider disabling the Yahoo ActiveX plugin via Tools | Add-ons | Plugins. ActiveX is a Microsoft technology which is frequently targeted by hackers. By installing it in Firefox, you're comprising the browser's security and potentially exposing your system to attack. Firefox can open any Yahoo page without requiring ActiveX to be installed.

SCCM2012-Client Push Installation Process seems very slow to me....

I've yesterday configured my first SCCM 2012 installation. Around 146 systems have been discovered so far by using the AD discovery method. But out of those 146 only 9 have agent installed successfully by the time I am writing this post..Dont see any errors
in ccm logs, no dns issues,admin share accessible,and other required services are running, machines are reachable, correct sccm account with required permissions is defined and boundary configured correctly.
How long does it take to install 140 machines. Am I missing something, what else do I need to check, it is the only primary site server with no CAS installed in the site coz the expected clients in future are lesser than 1000 and SQL 2K8 R2 wSP1
with CU6 installed on the same host.
Any suggestion....would be a great help..

Here is a script I wrote to push clients using PSEXEC tool (part of MS PSTOOLs)
1. I created Install folder on my SCCM server and shared it as Install$ for all Domain Computers
2. in this folder I put
-psexec.msc
-comps.txt (a text file contains computer names as a single column)

-script install.cmd
3. Start a command line as Administrator and navigate to \Install folder
4.run install.cmd
Note: the script will copy source of Client folder locally to root of c:\, so you may decide to change the location and remove it.

OS 8.1 safari very slow offer upgrade.

After upgrading my iPad Air, Safari seems very slow. While surfing the web, pages are slow loading. Pages with pictures keep trying to play catchup as I'm going down the page. I downloaded another browser and I don't have the same problem with that one. I've turned the iPad off and on, cleared the history, etc. to no avail. Anybody have any advice.

If you are having an issue with the Safari web browser on your iPad performing slowly and you have already tried resetting the iPad, I would suggest the next step would be backing up any data you have on the iPad and then setting it up as a new device. See this article -
