Tiger to 35$ Snow Leapord transtion, does it work good

OK long story short; I got the new touch, it wouldn't work with my Tiger mac, but a friend got it working for me. Anyway I'd like to get my computer to snow leopard. Obviously there is the 35 dollar disc and then the box set.
My brother says that if you only get the 35 dollar box set and install, it makes all the Tiger applications go laggy, and he says you should never do it. Personally I see no problem in it.
What do you guys think? Is this true? I'm tight on money so you need to understand my position here.

First, make sure your Mac meets the system requirements for Snow Leopard, particularly having an Intel (not G3, G4, or G5) CPU & at least 1 GB of installed memory. If it does not meet these requirements you cannot use Snow Leopard.
Also note that Snow Leopard installs new versions of most "core" applications, including Finder, Safari, Address Book, iChat, & so on, so you won't be running Tiger versions of them. Snow Leopard works faster with more memory installed, so you might consider upgrading that if you have just the 1 GB minimum installed.
There is no 35$ Box Set. The Box Set refers to the much higher priced bundled combination of Snow Leopard, iLife, & iWork. You do not need to buy this unless you also want the newer versions of the iLife & iWork application suites. You can also buy the new iLife or iWork products separately if you want just one or the other or need to do that later for budgetary reasons.

It should. I don't see why it wouldn't. It all depends on the quality of the headphones though. You should borrow one from someone who has it and test the headphones itself (music, calls, and other features)

Hey there:) I'm the guy who's Logic board got fried this weekend on my 1st generation Dual 2.0, so instead of paying $1100 for a logic board, I found a dual 2.5 with a year waranty left on it, and bought it, now is my conandrum:) I have over 400 plugs installed on the drive that was on my dual 2.0, I've reinstalled all of the cards, PoCo, and Motu pci, and Video, and also a memory(non apple) and I'm thinking would it work ok under 10.4.9 that is installed on my origial drive with all of my apps, or It will fry this motherboard too? I have a show coming up in 2 weeks, and have some work left on some tracks, anybody has PPC G5 dual 2.5 with 10.4.9? how does it work, myne was made in June of 04 I believe, and purchased in March 05, so I have around a year of apple care left on it, but I can not be down for now, I just want my apps to work, even If I have to reauthorize.. Should I go ahead and install the druve? or reinstall the apps for few days, and keep the 10.4.8?

I think you answered your own question.

  • Going from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS - Will it work?

If this has been previously discussed I apologize.  RIght now I'm running Tiger & want to bypass Leopard (too expensive) & go directly to Snow Leopard.  Will I be able to do this?  I just want to make sure before I order the software from Apple.
    Thanks in advance!

Short answer ... yes, very doable
SL needs Intel processor, 1 GB memory minimum (some would argue 2 GB is a better fit, if possible).
Make a very good backup (preferably a clone) of your current drive before yo upgrade in case the unthinkable happens.
Some would say that is too big a jump for upgrade and you just use the full-install SL disk (Apple Store Online $29) for a "new install", and use Migration assistant to pull certain items from the clone.

  • Snow Leopard upgrade does not work

I'm trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard from Leopard 10.5.8 on my mac book pro.
I only have one volume on my hard drive, but the installation program claims that I cannot install to this volume because it is not a "start volume" (though 10.5.8 boots from this volume). The icon has an exclamation mark on a yellow triangle.
I've used the service program to check my hard drive and all seams well.
    Any ideas?

I uninstalled PGP Desktop following a recommendation within another thread - that did the trick.

  • The wifi of iPad 2 does not working good, it always disconnect the Internet.

I don't know why my iPad always disconnect the Internet at home? While I use my iPod that it connect the Internet at home very strength, last month I brought iPad to the apple store at fashion valley to ask, one young man told me that because the Internet signal at my house is not strong. But if it not strong, my laptop and my iPod work fast.

Well, I was expecting some help other than "go to Google." You can't offer any suggestion besides that? No troubleshooting? Aren't you an Apple expert? I thought I'd come here for advice first.
I am aware Apple and all electronics manufacturers consider their devices unserviceable, but I wasn't about to pay Apple or a shop $200 to fix the screen.
    Thanks.

  • From tiger to snow leapord?

HI, a friend found an old macbook and gave it to me to use.  I've never had an apple product before, so I may not know all the terminology.  It's a tiger 10.4.11 with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.   Is there any way to upgrade it to a snow leapord, or something that works?  I tried installing what I found on the internet, but it says I need a 10.5 before I can install the leapord.  I can't find a 10.5 to download online.  Can someone help me with this?  Thanks Mo

The fact that it is a 1.83 ghz  Core 2 duo indicates that it is either an early 2006 or late 2006 model.  The latest version of OSX that can run on early 2006 machines is Snow Leopard and the latest on the late 2006 is Lion, so whichever you have, you can run Snow Leopard.
When you say "I tried installing what I found on the internet" - was this a genuine version of Snow Leopard?
I don't think Snow Leopard is available as a download (well, not a legal copy anyway) but you can get the disk from Apple still.  See this link (UK in this case but available elsewhere too):
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Also note the questions and answers from the Community, where someone asks if it can be installed over 10.4.11 - the answer is yes, if your MacBook has an Intel processor (and explains how to check for this).  Also explains that Snow leopard is NOT available as a download, only as disks to buy.

  • Print queue does not work

Since the update I did from Tiger to Leopard the Print Queue does not work. When I print a document the printer starts to jump up and down on the Dock for more than 5 minutes. Printing finishes and the icon of the printer is still "dancing" on the Dock. If I try to open Print Queue the window does not open immediately but after a long time and I can't see the printing documents that are waiting in the queue. As a result I can't stop or pause or delete a printing document. The same thing happens if I try to open Print Queue from the Print & Fax Preferences' window. The window opens after a long delay and nothing can't be controlled from this window. I forgot to say that the printer icon remains on the Dock and Force Quit is the only option I have when trying to quit it.
I have tried Permissions Repair. Nothing happened. I installed the latest driver. The problem is still there. Only after Reseting Printing System the problem is fixed but until the first reboot. If I restart the computer then the problem appears again and the only thing I can do is to Reset again the Printing System. So, if I want to control the printing procedure, I have to Reset Printing System after every restart!!! Any help???
P.S. I have a Canon iP4500 but I don't think that the printer is the problem because with Tiger I had never face this problem and I have also printed with this printer from a MacBook running Leopard with no problems.

    1) I tried Print Therapy and after I had repaired Permissions the problem was solved (some permission problems were found) until the next restart.
    2) Then I tried to stop and start again the cupsd process and again the problem was solved until the next restart of the computer.
    3) Then I replaced the cupsd.conf file with a new one but the app asked to restart the computer and after this the problem was back.
    4) Print Therapy does not find any problems neither in the properties of the root user nor in the current user or any other group.
    5) Also the verification of the temporary files find no problems.
In conclusion I think that the problem lies in the cupsd process because when stopped and restarted (we can forget that by Repairing Permissions actually we restart cupsd) I have no problem until the next restart of the computer.

  • Windows Vista and iTunes does not work

First Time sorry for my bad English, I'm from Germany and my English is not the best.
I have the new Windows Vista but iTunes does not work good.
And I have to use it, to manage my music on my iPod.
When there will be a Vista compatibles Version of iTunes??
And when will come an 64-Bit Version?
    Thanks for Help,
    Karsten

iTunes running under VISTA does not recognize media burned by iTunes Backup (v7.0.2) from a non-Vista machine.
The original machine recognizes the media just fine, but the new VISTA machine does not recognize the dvd at all.
Anyone else having a problem with VISTA recognizing burnt media?

  • I cannot print after updating my MacBook Pro from OSX Tiger 10.4 to OSX Snow Leapord 10.6.  Can anyone help me?

I cannot seem to print after updating my MacBook Pro from OSX Tiger 10.4 to OSX Snow Leapord 10.6.  Can anyone help me?

Try re-adding your printer in System Preferences/Print & Fax. Not sure what type of printer you have, but if it was old and relying on an Appletalk connection, Snow Leopard dropped that support.

  • Cant use CCC to clone Snow Leapord mac to Mountain Lion mac

    hello all,
I just bought a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 not retina), and it came with Lion OSX. I recently installed Mountain Lion OS and it appears to be working welll except I am having trouble using a cloned external drive. I cloned my 2007 MacBook (Snow Leapord), using CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner), onto a Seagate 320GB eternal USB Hard Drive. When I plug the drive into my new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion, and go to system Preferences, startup disc, select the coned drive, and click restart, the computer shuts down and appears to be starting to restart, but it just stays on the white screen before the apple symbol shows up and the apple symbol never even pops up, it just stays white forever without booting up. Now, I tried using the drive as a startup disc for my dad's 2008 MacBook Pro with Leapord and it worked like a charm and also tried it on my sister's MacBook Pro (Lion) and it worked fine there too. Is there something about mountain lion that could be causing this problem? I even tried using Target Disc from my old mac (that i cloned) to my new one and it wasnt working either. If anyone has any ideas, please help! Are there any particular tricks to using CCC for Mountain Lion? Thanks for the help!!!

Thanks that makes sense, however, my sisters Macbook pro worked with it and hers is a 2011 and came with Lion, so I'm not sure what to make of that.
Right the Early 2011 model MBPs came originally with Snow Leopard installed and Apple updated SL to 10.6.8 to work correctly with the newer hardware in the Early 2011 models. Then in June Lion came out and then all shipping MBPs came with Lion Pre-Installed but they would still run SL if you had the 10.6.8 version of SL. Since the Late 2011 models were basically the exact same computer, just upgraded CPU and some other minor changes, as the early 2011 models even though the late 2011 models came with Lion Pre-Installed SL would work on those if you had the 10.6.7 or .8 version of SL.
Now with the newest Mid 2012 models all of the Base hardware was changed to the most current versions available, New hardware. Even Lion that worked on the late 2011 models will NOT boot on the Mid 2012 models.
The 2011 version/build of Lion does not have the correct driver package to work on the new hardware.
Apple put together a Special build of Lion to work on those newest system with an updated driver package for the newer hardware.

  • How to sync new Macbook Pro with 2011 iMAC on Snow Leapord

    Hello,
This is my first post so hello!
My small business has an office iMAC and a Macbook Air both running 10.6.8. The two aren't synced in any way other than that the Air can access files from the iMAC's hard drive via the network. I have 2 email accounts on the iMAC's mail and just one of them set up on the Air.
I've just bought a new 15" Macbook Pro running Lion.
I'd like to be able to sync some folders (but definitely not all), bookmarks, iTunes and mail accounts between the iMAC and the new Macbook Pro. Ideally I'd like to be able to access the shared/synced folders when I don't have an internet connection
    What's the best method?
Snow Leapord doesn't have iCloud does it? If not, why the **** not?
Is it just easiest to set up the email accounts on the new MBP as normal and then use dropbox for the folders I want to share? Can I access the with no internet connection?
One other question, can i link a gmail account to my Apple mail?
    Thanks for any help.
    Best wishes
    Dave.

No.  It was a feature that was introduced with the release of 10.7.2.  I do not know why it was not introduced on earlier versions.  Probably the same reasons why some features will be introduced in later versions of OS X that will not be found on older versions.

  • Can't play long voice memo after upgrading from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS

I have a voice memo that's 1.5 hrs long saved on my computer that I used to be able to play in iTunes & Quicktime, but ever since I upgraded from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS, the file will not play anymore. I tried installing quicktime 7 from the snow leopard optional installs but the file still didn't play. I also installed the VLC player which opened the file, but only played 7 minutes of it. When I try to open the file in quicktime it says that it can't play the file and that it is not a movie file, but my file is saved as a ".mov" file. Does anyone know how I can get the file to play again?

I have an older Mac Pro (2006). I want to install Boot Camp and Windows. I have installed a boxed Snow Leapord on the machine. And it says the download of the Boot camp drivers cannot continue because they are not available. But at that point I have not inserted a windows disk, so how does it know i have XP?
So it appears I am limited to Windows 7? And where are the Windows 7/Boot Camp Drivers? On the OS disk?
Finally, since I have necer considered Windows 7 before, I assume there are no compatability issues with mainstream applications that were running in XP?
    Thank you.

    You're welcome
Just remember to reformat the partition (bootcamp partition) to NTFS with the windows installer, ensure to pick the correct partition.
