Tiger upgrade installation problems

I have a G4 Quicksilver currently on 10.3.9. Bought an upgrade from Allmac on CD. Disc 1 & 2 loaded ok. As the Canon Printer Drivers were loading on Disc 3, got a "installation was unsuccessful, please try again" message. It said to reload Disc 2, which I did, then had the same problem loading Disc 3. I checked the log, and saw a" BomFilEerror 5: input/output error.Install failed: Some CanonPrinterDrivers may not have been written correctly " At this point I am stuck, can't go forward, screen is frozen.
Should I quit the installer, and if so, how ? Suggestions ? Need help from you experts !

Were the disks you bought machine specific disks? You need a retail version of Tiger. Black disk with a gray 'X'.

You also need to Go up to your Apple and check Software Updates. Always use the Combo Updater, if you are downloading from another source.
I suggest you Verify and repair Permissions, then try again.
Go to your Mac HD, double click, Choose Applications and double click, next scroll down to Utilities and Double click, next choose Disk Utility and double click.
When this opens choose Mac HD single click it to highlight it and then go to the bottom and click Verify Permissions, when it is finished choose Repair Permissions.
Restart your computer and try your update again.

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems

I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
"You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.

Have the bugs of using with Vista been fixed, or still not working? thanks,
I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
What problems?  I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular).  CS3 and CS4 worked well as well.  Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.

  • ITunes Upgrade Installation Problem

A few days ago, I tried to upgrade my iTunes 8 to 9. The process stopped in the middle and quit. When I tried to open my iTunes, the icon on my 'Start' menu had changed to that paper-shaped icon with the picture of, like, a window or something. It's hard to explain. So, anyway, then I tried installing it all over again and I got it to download, but then when it's about to install, it says something about an unfinished installation that's already in progress. See, the problem is, I don't know where to find that previous installation. iTunes isn't even in my 'Add or Remove Hardware' list. I have no idea what to do. I really hope someone can help me.
here's a link to a picture of the icon shape I'm talking about: http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7834145758512912_655112912_2610074_7907195n.jpg

I'd try reregistering your Windows Installer, theo.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
If you have a 32-bit version of Vista
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter
If you have a 64-bit version of Vista
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter
Do the re-registrations go through okay? If so, can you launch/upgrade iTunes properly now?

  • Flash Player upgrade installation problem - Windows 7 x64 & Firefox

    Hello
It is impossible to upgrade the Flash Player to version 11.7.700.224 or 11.7.700.169
The antivirus DrWeb detects the installer as a virus (Trojan Downloader) and blocks the download process, but even disabling the antivirus and stopping its services (rebooting included) another problem appear:
The OS Windows 7 x64 rejects the installation saying that there is a program or component required that is not present.
The present version of Flash Player that I have installed is 11.4.r402.265, with this version is not problem for install, uninstall or configure, but Firefox claims that the version needs to be upgraded.
Also a new and strange and  disturbing function has appeared.
In the address bar of Firefox at the left has appeared an Adobe icon the request if I want or not to activate Flash for each web page that contain flash elements.
For example: In YouTube each time I open the page is nescessary to reactivate Flash for to allow the video function, if not the video screens reamain in blank.
Many pages that have active contents force to reactivate Flash a lot of times.
For example: The free web storage servers (rapidshare, hotfile, etc) have routines of showing publicity during the login and startup of the upload/download process.
Each time that I need to reactivate Flash the whole page is reset and makes incredibly slow the use of the cloud storage services.

    Hello
Google Chrome has it own Flash Player built in.
So you cannot uninstall it seperatly, only deactivate it.
And it is not Flash Player v11.2.x at this time.

  • Photoshop cs5 upgrade installation problem

I just purchased a Photoshop cs5 upgrade (upgrading from cs2).  There were no instructions with the disk. I put the disk in my pc's DVD-ROM drive, and the computer started reading it, but nothing appeared on my monitor. The computer stopped reading the disk after a short time period. There was never any indication, on the monitor screen, that anything was installing, or had installed. My pc's os is Windows XP professional, and it appears to satisfy system requirements. I have eset smart security 5 installed on this pc. How can I get this upgrade to install?

If the Autorun option is disabled (and it frequently is because of security concerns) the setup program will not launch automatically on inserting the disk.
Use Windows Explorer to see the contents of the disk. Double-click on the .exe file to launch the setup wizard. Follow the onscreen instructions there on.

  • Upgrading to Tiger Installer problems

Ok, thanks in advance for giving a glance, and, Happiest of Holidays.
I did search and still doesn't fit my situation...
Upgrading to Tiger-retail box from OWC. I use an external partinioned 200g firewire drive as a B/U and bootable OS/software tester before installing on the Pismo. The drive has 10G space available on the bootable OS partion.
Start the Tiger DVD installer it begins and after installing Base System part 1 and moving to Running Installer Script the process stalls; doesn't crash - just stops: The FW drive stops blinking and the DVD stops spinning....
OK maybe i overlooked something etc... Have to erase the OS partition; clone 10.3.9 from the pismo to it and start again. This time do all the checks: Run disk utility, Tiger cache cleaner etc... all works well, even boot and work on the drive for a few days. Start the upgrade process again, stalls at the exact same place. I want to run Tiger on the FW drive prior to the Pismo to check it out and i don't relish the thought of having to start from scratch if problems occur installing on the Pismo....
This time i printed the log file which i include below.
I called OWC tech dept. - they said i probably don't have enough disk space for the process... the process told me it only required 3.5G. They didn't offer any further knowledge.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
    Peace

  • Installation problems upgrading to Tiger

i just recently bought the Tiger update and was so eager to try it out. But... I couldn't even try and install it `cos the installation CD keeps getting itself ejected. It just sorta makes this continous noise inside there and then ejects it. Happens everytime. I rechecked the requirements thinking I went somewhere wrong with that. I dismissed the firewire bit prior to buying the Tiger pack, thinking it was no big deal.. cos I don't have it in my PowerBook G4. Could that be the reason?
    Pls advice

  • Tiger 10.4.3 Upgrade installation ends with "Error Occurred"

Nothing like ambiguity to help troubleshoot a software installation. (I've installed Mac OS's since 1986, so before those of you who like to flame people with problems with your favorite platform get out your flame-throwers, stop in your tracks. Comment only if you actually have something constructive to say. I'm a bigger mac-head than you.)
I have a PMG5 1.8ghz single processor rig running 10.3.9 that I got back in April (right before the free Tiger upgrade period). This weekend I bought a copy of Tiger from MacMall, along with a new iMac CoreDuo for the wife. I got it today and attempted to install it. It ran all sorts of checks, and began the installation. It seemed to progress well, albeit slowly. I got tired of waiting and took a nap before I had to go to work. I got up later to find that it ended with "Error Occurred".
Well, I thought it may be a situation of just needing another pass at it. So, I instigated the upgrade again, and asked my family to check after it. They just called to say that "Error Occurred" again.
A few things that might be of use to someone who has gone down my path and has an answer:
    - I left all my peripherals attached before the installation, including an external USB 2.0 drive.
-The RAM in the computer consists of 256 mb installed by Apple, and 1gb from Crucial installed by me.
-I have installed all the firmware updates that I could find, including the one that came out specifically for my model of PMG5.
-I had 25 gb's of free space on the drive being upgraded.
-The drive being upgraded was the one that came with the computer, which was bought from the Apple Store (no third-party junk).
Anyone have any suggestions for me? I would greatly appreciate anything you could suggest. I certainly hope that a simple OS upgrade with an installer disk that should be mature by now hasn't hosed my Mac.

Hi Glen, Welcome back to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
    No Flames, I promise.
Is the CoreDuo the new Intel version? (Pardon MY ignorance.)
Some 10.4.5 Disks are machine specific. Do you have the right ones?
Try reinstall w peripherals disconnected. That seems to be standard upgrade advice round here.
Beyond that, hope the REAL Gurus / Maestros find your thread. I'm in quarter vast mode right now. [see below.]

  • Warning about bizarre eMac Tiger installation problem due to memory

I'm a fairly proficient user. I've upgraded the OS on my 800MHz eMac (original version with NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics) many times. This time, while upgrading to Tiger, I blew almost an entire weekend trouble-shooting the machine. I'm posting this so others on the forum can hopefully save themselves some time.
My machine came from the factory with 256MB RAM and a Superdrive. I had the AppleStore add another 256MB of RAM when I bought the machine in Nov 2002. This was Apple-branded RAM, not third-party.
When I tried to upgrade to Tiger, the installation would proceed through all the DVD media and system hard-drive tests, then succesfully install one or more packages. It would then fail with the "Please try to install again" message. The installation log was showing messages about file corruption. I was able to re-install Panther from CD, which eliminated optical drive failure from the list of possible problems.
I ran all of the hard-drive checks in Drive Genius and my drive passed. I ran all of the Apple Hardware Tests from my original system CD. Then I found some warnings on the Apple site about marginal third-party RAM causing this kind of problem. I first rejected this line of approach, since I had Apple RAM.
Eventually I ran out of "normal" trouble-shooting, so I decided to pull the extra memory module as a last resort prior to replacing the hard drive. Once I did this, the installation ran flawlessly using the original 256MB of RAM.
The message here is that EMAC MEMORY PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN EITHER DVD I/O OR TIGER-SPECIFIC INSTALLATION. Check your memory before cracking open the rest of the machine, even if all the Apple hardware tests say the memory is OK.
I have new memory on the way from OWC and will follow-up with status when I get some runtime on it.
As an aside, I upgraded to Tiger from Panther mainly to get the increased parental controls (this machine is destined for my kids). Now that I have Tiger, I am pleasantly impressed by the other refinements as well.
    E-Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The RAM test on the Apple Hardware Test disc is a compromise between being throrough and completing in a reasonable amount of time. Memtest (especially if run in single-user mode as per it's instructions) offers a more throrough test.

  • Upgrade Options for Internal Hard Drive on dv2000t Laptop (Installation Problems)

I need to replace a failed hard drive in my 2006 dv2000t laptop.  The drive I'm replacing was already a replacement drive from the original 80GB drive that shipped with laptop.  That first replacement 3 years ago (2008) was a 200GB drive, that worked well for about 3 years.  But it just crashed (apparently).  I was getting some "S.M.A.R.T" imminent drive failure warnings a week prior, and then it finally would no longer boot-up.  Subsequent tests on the extracted drive show it as having many failed sectors.
I had no problem ordering a replacement drive the first time in 2008, restoring an Acronis backup image of original drive, installing it, etc.  All went smoothly in 2008.   So I assumed all would go smoothly again for yet another replacement and upgrade.
In 2008 the drive I ordered was a W.D. (Western Digital, sticking with the same brand as original) 2.5-in 5400rpm SATA drive (200GB).  That was a SATA (I) drive (1.5 Gbit/s interface).
The first drive I recently ordered (Mar 2011) was a W.D 2.5-in 7200rpm 500GB SATA II (3.0 Gbits/s interface) drive (from W.D.'s "Scorpio Black" line.)   Got the drive, burned the disc image to it, and popped it into the laptop.  Unfortunately, upon startup, and after BIOS screen, all I get is a black screen with a fast flashing white cursor at the top of the screen.  Drive apparently is not being recognized by the computer?  Then I did some reading in a few on-line forums and found some references about this laptop not doing well with drive capacities over 320GB, nor with 7200rpm drives (because they run hotter than 5400 drives).  And finally, references to the SATA interface speed.  I ordered a 2nd drive, this one from W.D's "Scorpio Blue" line, this time a 5400rpm 320GB drive (but still SATA II).  Same story, still won't work.  So I decided that maybe the issue was the SATA speed.  So I found someone who still had an older SATA (1.5 GBit/s) W.D. drive in stock .  It's a W.D. SATA 250GB (no longer made).  It should arrive in a couple days -- and I'm hoping this one works!
I would like to get some kind of confirmation about the blinking white cursor on the black screen on start-up.  Is that typicalif the system not finding a bootable hard drive?  Also, is this SATA vs. SATA-II issue a likely cause of my problem?   I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the new drives themselves, and the restored images on them , as the drives will mount and are accessible when I plug them in as external drives on my other computer.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I have been able to solve my own hard drive installation problems.  It turns out that there were no issues with any of the new replacement drive(s) I ordered (thinking I had ordered drives with the wrong specs).  The solution to the problem was a simple one.  The restored drives were not booting because there was no MBR (Master Boot Record) on the drives after disc image restoration.
I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 as my disc imaging (backup) software.  And I just didn't understand how to properly restore backed up images to a new hard drive.  I had done everything correctly except that I had not checked the box to "restore MBR" -- at the time not understanding what that was or its significance.  Once I checked that box, and reimaged the new drive, it worked fine.

  • Installation Problems: OSX Tiger

    Hi all,
I have a G4 iMac, I had 10.3.9 Panther on there, and I was starting to have some issues with space and computer running slow, and just recently my Quicktime7Pro just stopped working all together. SO... I got myself a 250GB LaCie Disk external HD and OSX Tiger.
I took all my files and made backups of them on the external hd, then I ejected it, turned its power off and unplugged it and everything else that was unecessary. I then put in my OSX Tiger Install DVD. It's brand new, I just bought it yesterday!!! (2/28/07 @ 10am) I put it in and the system loaded. It said it was finished and it was going to restart. The computer shut down, and restarted and came to the loading screen, the bar went 100% filled and then it came to a blue screen.
THIS IS WHERE I'M HAVING PROBLEMS!!! The top right corner will have the mouse cursor fade in, the "umbrella" will spin, then back to mouse, and fade out. Then it will change to a more of a greener/lighter blue and will have the lines "sun ray" loader. Then back to the normal blue (more cyan) and the cursor will fade in, umbrella, fade out etc. Over and over again. It won't go anywhere. I read the OSX Tiger booklet. I put the DVD back in (YES! it is retail!). I held C down. Waited. I chose the startup disk I wanted, and the computer froze. I had to shut it down and reboot. I followed the same steps, except this time it worked, but took me back to this mysterious blue>lightblue>blue>lightblue screen of death! I just wanted to start with a fresh HD on my iMac with Tiger, and now I can't even use my computer.
    I read this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=818804
And s/he had similar problems. I just could really use some guidance here. I don't know how I'm ever going to be able to use my computer again, and I really don't have the $ to take it to a shop and get charged $200 for someone to install software that I could've done with a little bit of help.
All help is definately welcome, and more than appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    -Mace

    Hi mace510,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Did you buy the disks from the Apple Store? Are they black or gray? Did you follow this procedure: 10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+checklist? It shows which steps you could have taken to ensure a successfull upgrade. Please go through the list and tell us which points you did NOT cover. It might help to diagnose the problem.
