Tiger Upgrade issue

iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) I am looking for any help anyone might be able to offer on an upgrade to Tiger from Mac OS X 10.3.9. I just upgraded to the later from 10.2.8 with no problems. However, in attempting to reach the final summit to Tiger, I received the error message "9972"--"Target volume is damaged and cannot be repaired by installer." I have tried to run Disk Utility several times but this cannot correct it. Am I left with only being able to do an Erase and Install? As a relative Mac newbie, I am a little concerned about the radical approach. I have used SuperDuper to back up the contents to an external HD before the 1st upgrade to 10.3, but am a little concerned about how to bring back all my data from that drive as part of a E&I? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a retail Tiger installer package you can install Tiger directly without doing an upgrade. Unfortunately, the error you are getting is a serious problem and the only satisfactory resolution is to reformat the hard drive. I suggest the following procedure:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Once you install Tiger you can restore your personal data from your backup. This can be done by drag and drop. I would not recommend restoring from your backup using SuperDuper because it will simply overwrite the Tiger installation.

Hello everyone.
Can I get some help with my new iMac?
I had a Graphite iMac, 600mhz. I finally bought a new 20-inch iMac. 500GB HD, with 2GB, 256VRAM. I read that OS9 wouldn't work in 10.4, so I did away with all of the OS9 programs and files. I used the migration assistant to move everything over from the old iMac, (10.3), over to the new iMac 10.4.8.
I was very impressed with the migration assistant. I spent that first weekend comparing the two machines. Everything was there, programs, files, settings, eMails, it was all there. GOOD JOB APPLE!!!
I have spent two weeks, going through all the programs to make sure that they are all updated to the latest versions. I have notice several little problems.
Any input or related experences would be appreciated.
1) Windows Media Player version 9.0.0. I only use it to listen to streaming radio stations from various cities. I can't stand WMP, never liked it. WMP will only work when using the "DEFAULT SKIN". If I change it to the MINI (AUDIO ONLY), it crashes hard. WMP will not work again, until I reboot. I have trashed all WMV prefs, pls, etc.. and have reinstalled. Can I get the skins to work.
2) QuickTime 7.1.3 "FAVORITES" can't be modified. I have Flip-4-Mac installed, and I can listen to the radio stations as listed above using QT7. If I save that station as a FAVORITE, then i get some file name, and I can't modify it to say 640KFI, 640Toronto, 77WABC. I don't want to us a web-browser to listen to these either.
3) QT7, streams take forever to start playing these radio stations. The instant ON is checked and it is set for a short delay, and the speed is set for 1.5mbps.
4) The old, no longer used "Mac OS9 Desktop" folder keeps appearing in the iMac HD. I trash and delete it, after validating it; but it shows up again. It may be several days, but then POOF...it shows up. I do not have any OS9 drivers installed on this HD. How do I get rid of this?
5) Font "TIMES NEW ROMAN", will dissaper from the FONT list from time to time. It isn't every time that I reboot, but it has happened several times. I reload it, but then I will notice that it is gone. Any clue as to what is happening, and how to fix it?
6) Epson Print CD doesn't will no longer print to my Epson Photo Stylus RX700 printer. It says that the PRINT DRIVER isn't installed. I followed Epson's directions and trashed everything, settings, prefs, pls; and I d/l the current drivers and installed. All of the printing and scanning functions work, I just can't use the PRINT CD. I have resorted to using my DISCUS RE program from Roxio. Is there any way to fix the Epson Print CD.
7) Some Safari webpages display with a solid colored diamond that has a question mark in the middle. This is a paste of the character. I don't know if it will display on the forums. "�" Anyone have a clue as to what this is?
8) The print settings presets, don't always work. It's sort of buggy. A given preset will work some times, and others don't. I only have that one Epson RX700. Any clue how to troubleshoot this and repair?

Timmy, since Microsoft no longer supports WMP 9 for Mac, you should just use Flip4Mac or VLC or other third party Windows Media player.
I don't know how migrating from a PPC iMac system to an Intel-based iMac works, but you probably have a lot of non-Universal files on board your Intel-based iMac and that could be a problem.

Tiger upgrade, probs w/ Safari accessing Google pages etc.

after my easy Tiger upgrade, i now experience a huge degradation of response time -- up to several minutes and sometimes unable to connect to my customized Google homepage with Safari. same is true using Safari's Google search box -- searches hang for minutes before connecting or don't connect. any ideas of what setting got changed or what i need to tweak? no problem with Firefox or IE. thx, diane

Mac OS X Tiger Upgrade

Hello, i'm currently running a iBook G4 with Mac OS X Panther, I got Tiger for christmas this year, but i have not upgraded. simply because i don't want to lose all my programs, like adium, or psptoolchain (which is in the user directory), is the tiger upgrade process easy on programs and files? will all my programs still be in the applications folder? i could care less about my system settings, its just my files that i cannot afford to lose.
oh, and one more question, is the Mac OS X intel install available to purchase? it would be great to run a computer with more power with mac os x tiger.

Hi Koba,
You can continue to use all your programs by choosing 'Simple Upgrade'.
But, before this upgrade, make sure your 10.3.x system has no any issue.
Do the followings before Tiger installation :
1-Boot from Panther Install CD,
2-Open 'Disk Utility' from menu bar, select the disc you want to install Tiger,
and run "Repair Disk". İf there is any correction, run it again until you see
'Everything is OK'.
İf you get some error message(s) that Disk Utility cannot fix, use DiskWarrior to repair.
Important: If it cannot be fixed by DiskWarrior ,do not continue installation procedure.
Backup your data and use 'Erase and Install'.
İf everything is OK ,
3-Start up as your normal user in Panther. Open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility .
Select your volume and click on 'Repair Disk Permissions'. Quit Disk Utility
4-Backup your data.
Check if your iBook needs a Firmware Update.
Boot from Tiger dvd.
1-After language selection, do not continue and open 'Disk Utility' from menu bar.
2-Run 'Repair Disk' utility only.
Very important : Do NOT run 'Repair Permissions'
You must see 'No repairs were necessary'. If you get any correction report, run it once
again.
Quit Disk Utility.
3-Select your volume, click on 'Options' button and choose 'Upgrade Mac OS X'.
Click Continue.
4-Choose Easy Install or Custom Install which lets you install additional software like
fonts and printer drivers.
Click on Install. Your Mac will reboot automatically after installation.
That's all.

After Clean Instal Tiger, upgrading to 10.4.7. many errors appeared

I wiped my boot drive, installed tiger, upgraded combo 10.4.7. Created anount account user. Things were spiffy for a moment until I mounted my firewire drives and some dmg file. BLAM! CRASH! MAYDAY MAYDAY! RUN FOR COVER into the apple forum! I've search forums for several problems and was unable to find solution but did on my own.
Errors:
Media ejectables: DMG, firewire drives, cd, dvd would not appear (but would on other users) I tried permission fix, disconnecting, whatever.
Internal audio wasn't working. Volume control was dissabled, and volume icon dissappeared from menubar after clicking it.
Worse of all: My icons on my sidebar were missing, desktop icons were randomly missing. I did comand J on finder and select show icon and show preview. That worked until log out, log in. Icons were switched around to the wrong ones, I thought I was on mars.
What else, well didn't get around much since I tried to deal with one problem at a time - it became overwhelming.
Before erasing the drive and reinstalling for another try, I decided to trash all my contents in my prefs folder in my home/personal directory (didn't empty trash). Logged out and back in. I'm back in business!
Those of you may want to try that and may have to re-adjust all your settings, serials, etc. Or you could drag some prefs back to folder to to find culprit or just the ones you really need. When happy with everything... Take out the garbage!
Hope it works for you as well.

I have to upgrade OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 to OBIEE 11.1.1.5 along with OBIA 7.9.6.1 to 7.9.6.5(Informatica 8.6.1 to 9.0.1) at my client location and I have very little knowledge on it. and want to know/have help documents for upgrade.
And if anyone in the forums involved in upgrade please list the errors/issues occured during upgrade and after upgrade.
1. OBIEE 10g to 11g upgrade issues??
2. OBIA OBIA 7.9.6.1 to 7.9.6.5 upgrade issues along with 10g to 11g??
3. Informatica 8.6.1 to 9.0.1 upgrade issues??
4. DAC upgrade issues??

Report generation toolkit upgrade issues

I have created multiple vi's in that utilize the previous report generation toolkits specifically using the Generate Report Get Data to Modify.vi and the Generate Report Set Modified Data.vi. Obviously the report reference has now changed in 8.6's version of the report generation toolkit and these vi's do not exist in the 8.6 library anymore. What vi's do I need to replace these functions with to make this code work. Can anyone tell me what the work around is to solving this problem. This is a picture of the code.

Hi BJD1613,
The Report Generation VIs on the LabVIEW Palettes mutate properly. However, you may run into upgrade issues if VIs distributed with LabVIEW, but not available in the Palettes are used in the code. Hence, I would caution against using them for the same reason.
In this case, the specific references do exist in the report generation classes; however, since they are private, they cannot be accessed by VIs outside the respective classes. A temporary workaround for now is mentioned in the following KB 4OOCSJ4M Getting References in Report Generation Toolkit 1.1.3 with LabVIEW 8.6.
This was reported to R&D (CAR# 123064) for further investigation

Hi,
We're currently on 4.6b and going to upgrade to ECC6 with unicode I'm trying to compile a list point taken care converting to unicode from ABAP technical point of view. Does anyone have such a list?
Some points i shortlisted are :
1) Use GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD rather than WS_UPLOAD and WS_DOWNLOAD.
2) Structures or table headers that contain non-character data need to be identical when moving, comparing, selecting into, updating from, etc.
3) OPEN DATASET filename IN TEXT MODE FOR INPUT ENCODING DEFAULT.
I know there are others. Any help would be appreciated.

Errors in Forte 3.5 -Upgrade issue

hello ,
We are having a frequent disruption in the communication SO which has an
externalConnection Class. Did anything change in 3.5? We did not have
these errors in 3L!
After these erros, we have a mutex locking problem which leaves our
application hanging.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Tiger Upgrade

I am looking to purchase a full disk set Tiger upgrade...I have a PowerMac G5 Panther 10.3.9...from what I gather...I have to purchase a disk set designed for "PowerMac"...as opposed to a set that is designed for "eMac"..."Mac Mini"...etc...is that the case?...any comments/input will be much appreciated...smiles

The current retail Tiger disk from Apple (10.4.6) will work on any PPC Mac that meets Tiger requirements built-in FireWire, 512MB RAM). Any other Tiger disks were made for a particular model, and were designed not to work on other models. Even if you found one that worked, you would probably be violating the license, since they are only licensed to be installed on one computer, and since Tiger is the current operating system, it is unlikely to have been removed from the machine the disk came from.

R12 upgrade issue:Not able to login using forms:Please help****urgent

We have recently upgraded our instance from 11.5.9 to 12.0.4 in Windows 2003 server.
We are unable to login to forms after upgrade, however we are able access self service responsibilities without any issues.
We are getting APP-FND-01496 when we access any forms responsibility. We have tried all possible metalink notes with no luck.
Any help to resolve this issue will be appreciated.

ECC 6.0 EHP-4 upgrade Issue in phase MAIN SHDRUN/ALTNTAB FILL were negative

while doing ECC 6.0 EHP-4 Upgrade in MAIN_SHDRUN/ALTNTAB_FILL phase we are getting the following issue please help us.
Checks after phase MAIN_SHDRUN/ALTNTAB_FILL were negative!
Last error code set: BATCH JOB RDDNT2MT FAILED: Error(s) found in the log(s), accumulated in "ALTNTFI.ELG".
We check the shadow instance is up and we can log in to the system. Check ST22 and SM21 notice no error.
Check the JOB RDDNT2MT (SM37) successfully running and all the job finish without any error.
Hope anybody can share a bit your experience on this issue. we try search the note and find the forum but no luck.

The thing is when I try to upgrade the image to the latest 6.x version using the .bin.gz file, I get the follwing error message :
The filename IPS-IDSM2-K9-sys-1.1-a-6.1-2-E3.bin.gz is not a valid upgrade file type.
Continue with upgrade? []:
There is no image file that is not .bin.gz on the download section of the website. Only recovery images have the .pkg extension.
Does anybody how to troubleshoot this simple(I guess) upgrade issue?

You are trying to "upgrade" using a "System Image" (-sys-) file instead of an Upgrade file.
The upgrade file for the IDSM-2 is the standard upgrade file used across almost all IPS/IDS models:
IPS-K9-6.1-2-E3.pkg
It can be downloaded here:
