Tiger upgrades won't run

This is a strange deal. I have had to clean install my macbook core duo with Tiger 10.4.6 from my install disc. No problems, starts and re-starts smoothly. When I tried to upgrade to 10.4.10 from a standalone installation, the machine just hung at the grey screen/spinning wheel.
I re-installed another clean 10.4.6, did the same attempt to upgrade to 10.4.11 with exact same results.
So I'm thinking why would the machine run flawlessly with 10.4.6, but not any other software upgrade?
I'm erasing and installing, but not choosing to install the Bundled Software option.
Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.

Quicktime in Tiger package won't run

I upgraded from system 9.1 to Tiger and both Quick time and iDVD won't run. A red exclamation point error message appears saying that these applications are not supported. Any suggestions? I also increased the memory and still nothing works.

I would suggest the usual steps, repair permissions, and delete QuickTime's .plist

Otherwise, try to create a new Mac OS X user profile and see if that helps.
OR... try to re-install QuickTime.

Lightroom 5.7 upgrade won't run.

LR 5.6 ran fine on my Surface Pro 2, but the upgrade ran for about 60s and froze. Now it won't start at all. Tried reinstalling (repair) twice; still will not start. I hesitate to remove the program completely for fear I'll lose the purchase code. Haven't tried reinstalling 5.6 over 5.7.

you need your serial number.
do you have that secured?
if so, you can uninstall and reinstall. if you do you may as well install lr 5.7.1 directly.,
if not, you can recover using belarc advisor,

10g/Tiger - It Won't Run

I followed the instructions from Sergio's Blog, along with madhatter's instructions, to install 10g. But when I try to sqlplus, I get this:

And, I don't remember creating the user name "system" nor setting its password, so I'm not sure what it is suposed to be.

Well . . . yes, I did create the database. I've been checking in with my teacher, but we haven't had any luck so far. Here's the latest:
This is what I did:
1. sqlplus /nolog
2. SQL> conn /as sysdba
3. SQL> create pfile='initbookstore.ora' from spfile='/........../spfilebookstore.ora'; OR SQL> create pfile='initbookstore.ora' from spfile='spfilebookstore.ora';
However . . . I get a different error message when I issued the command 'startup'. This time, it is:
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/Volumes/OSX/Applications/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1/dbs/initAWO1.ora'
This particular file doesn't exist in the dbs directory, but I do have:

Pages won't run

After I installed Tiger Pages won't run. It gives me this message:
"The application Pages quit unexoectedly after it was reopened."
There is no other indication of trouble, no splash screen or anything.

The following is to test your system.
1. First make sure you totally delete all of iWork.
2. Do Permissions
3. May want to empty the cache and reboot as well cannot hurt.
4. Create a new user account, within that new user account install iWork.
Does iWork now perform properly? If it does then there is something amiss with your original user account.

purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,

1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,

The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
iChat works well.
3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.

You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode. It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w. I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.

Lightroom 5.6 won't run on Win 7 6 after upgrade through CC

Upgrading Lightroom to 5.5 stopped it from running. I found a fix on the net and moved on.
Now. Lightroom 5.6 has just upgraded and now it won't run. Also, I cannot find a fix - new or old.
This is very frustating..

Installing the standalone version just postpones the problem until you install the cloud version, again.
The SLCache folder has bad data in it that confused LR 5.5 and again LR 5.6 until it was cleared, via Solution 4 on this page. Of course there could be other issues, so trying each of the solutions in order could be useful, but Solution 4 is the one that finally worked for me, with LR 5.5 on my home computer, and LR 5.6 on my work computer, where I'd installed the standalone 5.5 to bypass the issue and it came back with LR 5.6:
Lightroom doesn't launch or returns "Develop module is disabled" error after 5.5 update
Once you remove the contents of the SLCache folder other Adobe programs will ask to be relicensed like Elements via a serial number or the cloud programs by logging in, but that is just once after you clear it not each time.

Yes, this did solve the problem. But I had some trouble updating QuickTime. It failed, with the installer complaining that it did not have the required permissions to install the files it needed in the program directory. I got it to work by telling it to install the files to another directory. All seems well now - Thanks!

Win7 PC won't run upgraded photoshop CC (2014) as standard user

Since upgrade from photoshop CC the PC won't run using the standard user account (which is on the office network) but only run as local Admin (which doesn't have access to the office network).
when opening photoshop CC 2014 the PC prompts for local admin rights, then can't see the files on the network drives.

Thanks Jeff. The user is a standard user. He's been using Photoshop CC on this same PC for a long time. Photoshop CC (2014) is not crashing.
In order to upgrade, I had to switch to the local admin account, upgrade was successful.
When my standard user logs back in using his personal, standard user account, he is prompted for Admin credentials when he opens Photoshop CC (2014). He enters the admin password, but he then can't access the files on the network, as the local administrator doesn't have access to the network. This happens every time.
He has no problem running inDesign, or the old version of Photoshop, or any of the other suite of products.

Okay, I'm not a Genius, but, I'm smarter than the one I spoke to at the Apple Store.They told me that they couldn't help me with Legacy Java SE6 Runtime. Adobe has the worst support in the industry so don't call them.
If you have a Time Machine backup, go to one that pre dates your install of Yosemite. Go to the System/Library/Java and drag copy the folder to your internal hard disk. Now you will need the Administrator password. Once copied, drag the old Java folder into your System/Library folder and when asked to replace, click OK. Restart your Mac and you will have use of your software that requires Legacy Java SE6 Runtime.
I'm totally done with Apple since they are trying to box me into a corner. Have fun kids.

10.4.10 update won´t run

I just installed a fresh copy of Tiger in my old G4 400mhz (AGP Graphics) after erasing the hard drive. But when i run the software update, i get an error and the 10.4.10 update won´t run. Even with the 10.4.10 standalone installer, the DMG won´t mount, i get an error and it all ends with a Kernel Panic.
I´ve tried everything i could remember, but no go. Any suggestions?

If you have any PCI cards, periphreals, 3rd party RAM modules, or anything else that was added to the computer that was not included straight from Apple, pull it. You may want to reseat your original RAM and AGP card as well. When troubleshooting, you want to make sure that all you have hooked up is the mouse, keyboard and monitor.
After you do a fresh install of the system, does it run fine? Make sure that directly after the install you repair permissions and repair the disk, and then restart. If you think it is running okay, then run software update- and only update the system to 10.4.11, don't install all of the other updates until after. If the system still doesn't upgrade correctly, then maybe you should just stick with plain 10.4. If it works well in 10.4, there may be no reason to upgrade.
