Tile windows ala Microsoft

Hi, I've been using OSX for a couple of years now and the one thing I miss the most about the Windows OS is the ability to tile windows. It seems there must be a way to do it in OSX. I know I can hit F9 and get a selection of windows to choose from, but that's not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to expand the windows to fill the screen, each taking an equal share, either horizontally or vertically, and allow me to work back and forth between the two. The way I'm used to doing this in Windows is to right click the taskbar and choose Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically. Surely in such an advanced OS there's a way to do this basic command?

Hi Owern,
Drag the sides of each window to resize. Drag the title bars to rearrange them on your screen.

Ian.

  • Launching VB6 Editor after installing Visual Studio 2013 results in "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio..."

I have had various versions of Visual Studio installed beside Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise for some time with no problems, most recently Visual Studio 2012 Premium.
I recently installed Visual Studio 2013 Premium, and now every time I open VB6 I get a dialog that says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013" that shows a progress bar. After it finishes (30 seconds or
so), it launches again and again and finally VB6 will open. This happens with each instance of VB6, regardless if I've already done it once and never run VS2013 in between.
If I cancel the dialog, I get this error message in a dialog: "Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found. Restoration will not be possible." Several more "Please wait"...
dialogs will appear and if I continue to cancel, eventually I'll get the VB6 editor. It appear to work fine despite the error messages.
It seems to me that the VS2013 installer flagged some dll's or other files to be rolled back whenever starting VB6. It doesn't appear to be necessary, and I'd like to avoid playing the "Please wait" wack-a-cancel-button game before launching each
instance of VB6 (or waiting several minutes for no reason). So how do I fix this?
Note: I've seen something similar happen in Outlook on a different PC when upgrading from 2010 to 2013. The same sort of "Please wait"... dialog would appear each time I opened Outlook. Judging by the "similar" questions that popped up when
entering this forum post, I'd say this is a general problem with upgrading older versions or installing newer versions of major Microsoft software side-by-side.

    I found the answer!
I was having the exact same issue, and I was search for a solution and I happened across the following thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f4b0fd38-f4f9-41ea-bd8d-834203a175d2/building-visual-studio-2010-project-triggers-please-wait-while-windows-configures-visual-studio?forum=vssetup&prof=required
Scroll a small bit down, and there is a post by Barry Wang explaining that you need to use event viewer to find out what is missing. Anyway, I opened event viewer, then open VS 6, then hit refresh in the event viewer (under Windows Logs -> Application)
and saw a warning message from MsiInstaller. It gave me the following message:
Detection of product '{9C593464-7F2F-37B3-89F8-7E894E3B09EA}', feature 'Visual_Studio_Professional_x86_enu', component '{E3FF99AA-78B9-4A06-8A74-869E9F65E1FE}' failed.  The resource 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\URTInstallPath_GAC\' does
    not exist.
I opened an elevated command prompt, I navigated to the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework folder and verified that 'URTInstallPath_GAC' didn't exist, and then I did "md URTInstallPath_GAC".
Closed and reopened VS 6, and it instantly opened - no "Please wait" message.
Now this may or may not be the same problem you are having (problem is - I have had it happen on two separate computers now with VS 6 and VS 2013 installed), but it should point you in the right direction. In fact, you should be able to use the Event Viewer
for anytime the "Please wait" message shows up for any application, and then once there find out what is really missing.

I have Windows 7, Microsoft Outlook and PSE 13. I have used the "Share photos as embedded images" feature frequently, but today when I went to use it, it wasn't there, only the option to send email with files attached. How do I get back the ability to send emails with photos embedded. I like adding the frames and backgrounds and I think it's easier for recipients to look at the photos. Thanks for any suggestions of things to try.

I had a similar problem in that my wife's iphone 5 could not send pics with imessage.  Had to set the settings to default to SMS or whatever.  After laboring many hours on the web I coincidentally was on the phone with the internet people to question my internet speed.  They changed the router channel, which is something that I am capable of doing myself.  After that, the pics go over imessage.  My own Iphone didn't have the problem.  We are both latest IOS 7.0.6.

  • Visio 2013 startup problem "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visio..."

    Hello,
I am getting the "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visio Professional 2013" window on every load of this program. I have found no resolutions from Google searches.  I have tried a full reinstall of Visio, registry modifications
(per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685120?wa=wsignin1.0), tried running it in safe mode (still happens), tried a clean boot (still happens). I'm out of ideas. Does anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi,
    Try the following method:
If you have an earlier version of Visio installed, such as Visio 2003 or Visio 2007 or Visio 2010, follow these steps:
1.In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then select Run.
In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run.
2.Type the following command, and then press Enter:
    reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Visio\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
3.(Optional) Instead of typing the command line, you can  copy it to your clipboard, right-click an empty section of the Run box, select Paste, and then press Enter.
4.Verify that the problem is resolved.

  • Please wait while windows configures microsoft visual studio professional 2013

After installing visual community 2013 and rebooting visual studio works fine but all other microsoft office programs display "please wait while windows configures microsoft visual studio professional 2013" and continues the installation for
about 1 minute before the program starts. I tried deleting mso.dll and reinstalling but it is still the same. Any help would be appreciated?

    Hi iwallhead,
Then can your VS work fine? Anyway, please upload the installation log.
Use a tool named collect.exe to collect the log file. Download
    collect.exeand
run it directly. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the VS and .NET logs to
    %TEMP%\vslogs.cab. Please upload the
    vslogs.cab file on onedrive.
I will help check if any install error exists.
    Best regards

    Hi everybody.

If I try to access to \\servername\c$ , or vmm agent on a server try to access it, in the "Server Manager , File and Storage Services, Servers" console I can see the message, every minutes:
    servername ID 30620 Warning
    Microsoft-Windows-SMBClient Microsoft-Windows-SMBClient/Operational - Connection to server \servername IP Address x.x.x.x:445 was aborted.
I alreday apply the registry update:

UAC and firewall on the server are disabled.
Anyone have some suggestion for me ?
    Thanks.

Two HP DL Servers - a DL380 G5 and a DL 360 G5 - running Server 2012 Standard with Hyper-V.  Both servers have HP NC373i onboard Gigabit NICs.
NIC 1 is for Management OS, NIC 2 is dedicated to Hyper-V.  The latest/greatest HP Management software, drivers, firmware for Server 2012 are installed on both servers.
Could copy files to/from other servers with no problem, and near gigabit speed.  All other networking appeared normal.
Could not copy files to each other. Could ping each other though.
Ran the above command and rebooted both servers - issue has gone away.
I've got a few more of these older HP servers that I'm going to test with Server 2012.

  • Can I Tile Windows in Tiger?

Can I Tile Windows in Tiger like on PC? Sometimes I just want to work with all my windows visible at the same time.

    HI, Terrabay.
There is no system-wide Tile function like you describe. Some applications support tiling of their windows, which would be under their Window menu. Whether or not tiling is supported is application-specific.
The "All Windows" Exposé shortcut —  F9 by default — displays a spread of all open windows in all running apps, save those windows which have been minimized to the Dock, from which you can select a given window. See this KB search for all Exposé-related Help.
    Good luck!

How do I open multiple windows on microsoft Surface? I'm a grad student and would like to have multiple PDF windows open or availible while I use Microsoft Word. Is this possible?

Other user asked a similar question a couple days ago - except the question was in French and the other app was Microsoft Excel (not Word).
Please see the option (b) for running two apps side by side in this post.

It may not be an ideal solution for you.  But this may be the only option you have if your device is running the Windows RT operating system.  You can install Adobe Reader XI (desktop app) if your device is running the Windows 8 operating system.

  • Applescript or Action to tile windows

I'm trying to write a script that will open two files after the user selects one of them, then tile the two windows.
I don't see a "tile windows" command in the dictionary for CS3, so I thought I'd create an Action that selects Window>Arrange>Tile vertically, then use "do action" in the script. But nothing happens when I try to record that Action.
    Is this possible?

Does your tile action work when manually called from within PS? When you
record it, you probably need to explicitly treat it as a menu call
("insert menu item" from the actions pop-up menu).

  • [SOLVED] Possible to tile windows in xfce?

    Hi guys,
i'm curious if there's any possibility to tile windows in xfce4. i'm very used to this nice feature from kde4/gnome/win7/etc. where you can drag/drop the window to the edge of the screen and it gets automatically adjusted, or more precisley, tiled horizontally/vertically.
i know that there are many tools/hacks avaible in the AUR but can they also be applied on xfce4/xfwm?
    best regards!

xfwm4-tiling is really great and recommendable (it's available in the AUR)! tiling is a bit 'harsh' when you use more than one desktop because the distance between skipping to the next desktop and tiling is a bit too small, but ok
edit: thank you warfruit for pointing at the pkg!

Microsoft is not in the business of giving software away for free, they sell it instead.
Buy a copy of Windows 7 Home premium or Professional, then install it using the method of your choice.

  • Tile windows in Openbox

I've been interested in tiling WMs for a while now, but I don't really have the time to configure one. I was fascinated by this article, and I promptly installed "tile" with yaourt. Sadly, the "tile" command returns command not found, and I haven't found a file to use pacman -U on.
    Any suggestions or alternatives?

you´re looking for tile-windows (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16168). tile (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7498) from the AUR is something completely different.
i named it tile-windows, because tile was already used.
    btw, i´d rather recommend whaw (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O … _Search=Go).
you need the mouse for that, but i think it´s more versatile.

  • HT2477 Are documentS created with Microsoft office for windows and Microsoft office for mac are compatible with each other

Are documents created with Microsoft office for windows and Microsoft office for mac are compatible with each other?

As with a lot of software, it depends on the version of Word, and what features the author used.
Technically, Office 2010 for Windows and 2011 for Mac are supposed to be feature compatible. As are Office 2007 for Windows, and 2008 for Mac.
However, if a person using Office 2010 / 2011 used a feature that only exists in that version and sends the file to someone using Office 2007 / 2008, they would very likely have trouble opening the file, or having it display as intended.
