Tiles for Fiori Factsheets Apps

Dear Experts,
          I am configuring Fiori on HANA DB for Fact sheets and Analytical apps. I Completed all the necessary configuration.
          But here i unable to get Tiles for all fact sheet apps on launch pad.
          In the Catlog designer URL, i able to see all fact sheet apps with only target mappings, butn't with tiles.
          Please Help me to move forward from this issue.

Hello Prasanth,
Factsheet apps are directly integrated with SAP Fiori search in launchpad. SAP has not provided any standard tile for any of the Factsheet app. To access a particular Factsheet app you have to use the SAP Fiori Search Input Field in the Launchpad. Suppose you want to access the Production Order Factsheet app, for this do the following steps:
Select Production Order from the drop-down list and put * in the search field if you dont have any specific Production Order and press enter.
You will have the list of all Production Orders available at your backend system.
From the list select the required one and you will be navigated to the Production Order Factsheet app.
Hope this will be helpful for you to understand how Factsheet apps work.

how can I create custom live tiles for third party apps? There are a lot of applications which can pin live tile which starts another app - for example Facebook. How can I do that?

You cannot. You can create live tiles only for your own app, not for others' apps.

Gateway user maintenance for FIORI app

We are currently in the process of implementing FIORI and are working into the user creation on the Gateway.   We do not want to turn on AE because we do not want it to be visible to users.   From our analysis, there does not seem to be a standard process.   We are going to develop a new auto role maintenance process.   We want only the relevant tiles to display based on the user's role(s).
We came across this Note:

Solution
This note describes a way, how the set of tiles enabled for a specific user by implementing a BAdI.
In this BAdI implementation you change the list of catalog provider nodes extracted from the
standard menu tree based on the current set of roles assigned to the user. You can remove existing
entries or add new ones.
To accomplish this, please perform the following steps:
1. Apply Netweaver UI AddOn 1.0 SP08 or, alternatively, apply the correction instructions of
this note.
2. Copy the class /UI2/CL_ROLE_EXT_CATALOG_PAGES to a page in your package and namespace, e.g.
ZCL_ROLE_EXT_CATALOG_PAGES
3. Create a BAdI implementation of the BAdI definition /UI2/BADI_NWBC_RT_EXTENSION, named e.g.

We tried implementing ‘/UI2/BADI_NWBC_RT_EXTENSION’ BADI in gateway system as per the instruction
given in the note and kept a breakpoint and launched the Fiori launch page. But
BADI was not triggered.
There is no information on; when and where this BADI
will be called by gateway system.
Can anyone give more information on this Note, BADI, or the Gateway user maintenance process for FIORI?
Is the custom solution the best way to do the user maintenance?

    Right now we have only tested the PR approval in FIORI and are getting ready to implement that. We are looking at the best way to do user maintenance in the Gateway for FIORI.   We have designed a custom solution but were wondering if the Note above will help us implement a better solution.
    The requirement is to show the relevant tiles to a user based on their role in the application. Ie. for PR approvals, if they have the approver role(s) in ECC then they should see the PR approval tile in the FIORI launchpage.
    What are you referring to when you say 'catalogs and Groups'?

I am trying to install factsheet Article.
App Implementation: Article - SAP Fiori for SAP ERP 1.0 - SAP Library
According to the requirements specified in the documentation for the factsheet, the following backend system is needed

When I try to create a connecter for the search model for article (ARTICLE_H) I don't see the article search model. I see other search models ( Asset_H, Company_H, ...) but not the factsheets which I need....
Can anyone tell me why I don't see these search models and what I have to do after creating the connector for the search model ?

Hello,
1) How to check availability of language for fiori app.
Lets say case is availability of russian for Confirm Production Operation.
2) And one more, please describe procedure of adding language which is not available.

Hi Lucas,
The language of Fiori apps can be changed from launchpad as in the attached screenshot.
Also the rendering of apps to a different language can be achieved by changing the language code in the URL at sap-language=EN .
Note: make sure the Languages are enabled in SICF .Error Pages -> Logon Errors -> System Logon - where Logon Pages are configured
EDIT : Supported Languages can also be checked in PAM .

Fixed header in FIORI like app!!

Hello All,
I am building a Fiori like app. I want to have a fixed header for this app and the header would be the company logo and a stretched image. I have implemented this but the problem I am facing is that the, when I run the application on IPad, the footer is hidden below and does not show up until I double tap and close the header image.
My requirement is to display header and also the app inside the container to be shown on a single screen irrespective of the device it is running on.
My index.html script is as shown below.

Thanks for your response.
Why not simply create a header inside your application shell?
Basically I do not find any header control to add an image. So I changed my code to the following:

But, looking at the properties of a shell. here I can add an image as a background. but I cannot cannot set as an header. I hope I am doing the right thing. If I am wrong please correct me. Any sample example would come handy too.

Selection of a mobile framework - for enterprise mobility app.

There have been many plethora of mobility frameworks (e.g Kony, HTML5 based frameworks) that have same features as Cordova - write your code once and run it on multiple platforms. Some are free,others are not. Having recently implemented enterprise mobility app (integrating with ECC, CRM) using one such framework, there are a certain I would like to consider before choosing a framework:
a) How easy it to build security into the app (the login module)?
b) How do I know that the requests for my data is an authenticated source?
c) How good is the vendor support with plugins, upgrades to SDK?
d) For frameworks that are free, do vendors really pay attention to issues that you are facing during (very specific to) your implementation.
e) Scalability of the framework to support the app with newer mobile OSs, mobility sets (Motorola, Micromax, Blackberry), tabs.
f) All mobile sets have limited memory at most to 2GB (or little more). How will the framework help in viewing huge amount of data that is there in SAP?
From my experience, I would say it is big pain, implementing a enterprise mobility app with open framework adhering with the go live dates.
SAP products are more easy to handle. A lot of featues comes inbuilt. Mobile apps comes as pre-packaged apps. One needs to customize it according to it needs. Product support from SAP is remarkable. Implementing and going live with such product becomes automatically easy adhering to the timelines. So is the maintenance. But of course comes the licensing price for SAP.

Often I have seem blogs in SCN, advocating for frameworks other than that of SAP. No harm
Please mention the blogs as a reference for more understanding. I can always only see Cordova / appcelerator being the recommended platforms by SAP for cross platforms development.

More over i have worked mostly on all the three for a while and have experienced the ease in development with cordova.
Also the HWC (Hybrid Web Container ) - the former way for developing hybrid applications on SAP Mobile Platform till 2.x has Cordova/phonegap plugins inbuilt in it. Literally it followed the approch of Cordova and ui framework was of Jquery Mobile .
But Now with the release of SMP 3.X things are completely under the control of developer. There are no restrictions to use a particular framework for development and developers are free to use their choice for development (SMP 3.x highlights BYOT - Bring Your Own Tools for Developers).
Adding to above , just would like to mention there are few products mainly focused and developed on cordova technology (KAPSEL plugins, Appbuilder, Fiori Client , River RDE in future integrating Kapsel plugins)
SMP 3.x is all open for developers , we are free to use any platform as per our requirements and convenience now.

My experience has been using Kony-SKY framework for developing the mobility apps (not mobile web). SKY plugins has been certified by SAP, to be used for developing mobility applications. (SAP does embrace other vendors). My questions pointed out above, was out of the struggles we had while implementing the project. Many at times, I felt I was reinventing the same tools while integrating into the SAP backends.
I am not a Kony guy, but will surely look into this and would check if i can help you.But out of my experience with Cordova /HWC/ Kapsel , it was satisfactory.
I presume you might have used/using SAP's Fiori apps, SAPUI5, mobile architecture and would like to gather some more information very specific to SAP's environment. I have no experience now on delivering apps using SAP's products. Maybe three months from now, I would get deep with 'SAP Fiori UX and SAP Screen Personas'. Maybe you could throw some light on few more queries.
Yeah , thanks to SAP for Fiori being out of License now and UI5 an Opensource. I have had the opportunity to also work and implement Fiori transnational applications and also develop Custom UI5 applications .
Note : Personas is really a good product , but on the down side is n't responsive in nature , so might not be a best fit for mobile devices

Typically Native Android apps are developed using Core Java.
Initially all the Core libraries of Android and java are loaded with import command

and Android uses the concept activities and layout for screen navigation and designing.
and by default any android project should have an activity and layout for launching the application, for which the code looks something similar to this

so , a Relative layout is initially launched as main view.
As mentioned in the blog in " How does it actually work section " cordova loads web views instead of the native layouts /activities
How Does it actually work ?
Technically the User Interface of a Cordova Application is effectively a WebView that occupies the complete screen and runs in the native Container. So , it is the same web view that is used by the Native Operating systems. This purely means that only the Native Containers changes according to the OS and internally the web pages remain the same. (Since the browser rendering of webpages are different for each operating systems)
For       IOS it is UIWebView class
             Android it is in android.webkit.webview
             Windows it is WebViewClass and the similar goes to other OS .
This line of code is responsible for that

our developed web applications should reside in the above mentioned location to access as any native web view
also few other hacks are to be done at

Now internally the android applications works just like any native applications but accessing the web applications files in the web view. and just generates the .apk accordingly to the application.
Say a query is executed from a mobility app, say the result set is some 1000 rows, how does the data fetch mechanism work. Do you use some delta data fetch mechanism?
if i were to handle this , would try to filter this out to sections. Lets imagine huge PO s are resulted upon a query, i would try to create some sections/categories for Unreleased/Open/Approved /... and again try to perform some dynamic filter operations on each category selection/ or make use of pagination property to move across the items/records
Also user would not be interested to scroll and search for his item from a huge collection of items.
More over for handling of huge records Native approach is preferred to Hybrid/mobile web.
When a mobility connection snaps while the user is using the app, does the app stop immediately? Or rather how is user informed about non availability of the network connection?
Lets assume two cases here
1) Complete Online application
2) Online Offline Application
1) If user is trying to access the data from the application , since this being an online application , a proper network connectivity id to be checked properly before making any request .
for phone gap/cordova , Network Object helps us to check if network connectivity is available to make any request. else throw an alert to check the connectivity/ turn on the connectivity.
Similarly a Connectivity manager API exists for Android . Here is an example. Same would apply for other OS also.
2) For online - offline application . user wouldn't be able to read records from back end , but can perform other necessary operations on the device, and once the device gets connected to network, can sync with the back end . An alert should be thrown to inform the user about the loss in network connectivity and the limitations in accessing the data .
Build/release mechanism and subsequent tracking for mobility apps for periodic release of apps - say there would regular fixes to bugs, upgrades to framework SDK, device OSs might get upgraded - Is there a tool for tracking all these, etc
Yes. MDM tools are perfect fit for these. Afaria and Mocana are doing well now.
And, anything that you would like to share, related to SAPs environment, that makes implementation easier.
SAP Mobility is really booming and will grow , dominate in enterprise mobility in future.

Notifications (specifically for the Facebook app)

I just bought a Nokia 720, and so far I'm very disappointed because the notifications for the Facebook app don't come through at all.
When I get messages on FB chat I expect to be notified, and having used Android and iOS in the past this isusually what happens, but not so on this phone.
It's very frustrating and I'm really disappointed with the phone because of it. Simple things such as notifications should not be a problem. I'm not sure if it has the same problem for other apps, as I have been focusing on trying to fix this specific problem.
I can't find a solution. Having the app notification settings to toasts and tile count I presumed if I got a message it would show me at the top of the screen and then leave a number on the cover of the FB app.
Is there a way to fix this? I'd like to fix it and then I can start enjoying my new phone, and not feeling like I wasted £300.

After searching and searcing I found that a suggestion to:
setting > general > reset > reset location and privacy
it worked...
i just had to reinstall the app from the app store.

Fiori CRM apps

Hi All,
I am trying to activate Fiori CRM apps. Have downloaded the required components and have alos activated the OData and the UI service. But there are some configurations mentioned to be done on the CRM box. But unfortunately I am unable to see any Fiori Navigation paths indicated in the help.sap. The below path for example is missing....

IMovie for iPhone 4 app not recognizing imported videos to iPhone

Hello! I took a video from my iphone 4 sometime back and I imported it to my computer. Later after upgrading my iPhone to iOS 5.1 I installed iMovie app (latest version) and I imported the same video to Videos app through iTunes. I found that Videos app recognized the video and playback was fine. Then when I opened iMovie app, it dosent show any video in the import video screen when I tried to import it to iMovie app. But still Videos app shows the video where iMovie does not. So how can I make iMovie app recognize videos imported to iPhone? Any help and answer would be appreciated

I put the video file in the sync folder for Photos app and I ticked "Include videos" and synced. I found the video tile on the Photos app and as I opened it, it showed an image of the video instead of the video (as if the video was converted to a picture which shows the starting part of the video). And below the screen was play slideshow tab. Seems the video appeared as an image. Anything else I can do to fix this problem?

Fiori CRM apps with central hub deployment

Hello Experts,
We are looking to configure Fiori CRM apps in our landscape with central hub deployment option. Our CRM backend and frontend server (Gateway) are 2 separate systems.
The CRM backend system (CRM 7.0 EHP3) is running NW 7.4 whereas the frontend server where we have installed the Gateway component is running NW 7.31. Can we go ahead and install the CRM UI components on our frontend server or is it mandatory that the frontend server also runs NW 7.4?

The link you mentioned gives details about the required SAP Gateway Components for NetWeaver 7.3 & 7.4, but does not mention anywhere whether the NetWeaver version of the backend business suite system should necessarily be NW7.4 if we have front-end system on NW7.4.
I am looking to clarify the doubt regarding whether both front-end and back-end systems should be on the same NetWeaver release or it is fine to have front-end on 7.31 and back-end on 7.4

Need confirmation on Windows Mobile Device compatibility for Fiori

Hello Experts,
Can you please confirm if SAP Fiori application is compatible in Windows Mobile OS 7.X/8/X devices? In http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1935915 , I am not seeing any mention about Windows Mobile Devices. We need to know if SAP Fiori application can be run in any browser in windows mobile devices and if there SAP Fiori client in available in Windows App Store. Please help us in getting this information.

So, after seeing the comments, should I come to a conclusion, as of now Fiori is not supported on Windows Mobile Devices and if my understanding is correct, are you aware of any tentative timeframe when we can expect Windows Mobile device compatibility for Fiori? The reason is we are looking for a customized Fiori application for Windows Mobile Device, and was looking to check Fiori compatibility for the same.

Right now, the SAP Fiori Client appliction doesn't work with SMP. With SMP 3 SP03 which was released last week (Ramp-up customers only, sorry), there is an updated proxy that supports Fiori access from a Kapsel application (the application would need to onboard with SMP and that's not supported with the Fiori Client today).
The next release of the Fiori Client will have support for SMP and more. Next on my todo list is a blog post that talks about SMP and Fiori. You should find all of your questions answered there. Expect it next week.
Yes, we plan on supporting Windows 8.1. Right now, Cordova on Windows 8.1 doesn't support some of the things Fiori Client does. We're working with the Fiori team, the Cordova dev team and Microsoft to work through all of those issues. No definitive timeline, but it is something we want to support

How can you use the same Apple ID for music and apps but have a different iCloud

Collectively in my family we have 1 iPhone 2 ipod(4th gen) and 3 iPad mini's and we like to buy music and apps through the same Apple ID so that we can all share it but we also have a problem about the iCloud.
My son has one iPod and one iPad and he would like his contacts and messages to be shared between HIS two devices but he would also like all of the pictures taken in the family to be shared
The same for my daughter and for me.
Is there a way of selecting which devices share what????

You could and should set up different iCloud accounts in "Settings > iCloud", so that every user has its own email account, calendars, reminders, notes, storage for backups and app data (files etc.), by the way everyone could also use his own account for iMessage (Settings > Messages > Send & Receive) and FaceTime (Settings > FaceTime) so that you all could write and call each other.
Next the Apple ID for music, apps and other media: You all could just set up the ssame Apple ID in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores" for all your media purchases like songs, movies, apps etc.
