Tiling PDF

Hey i need some help tiling a pdf on adobe reader. I have scanned a document that is 8.5in by 28in(out legal contract) but when i want to print it i can only print in landscape instead of portrait. i have played with all the setting and done everything that come to mind but still no success. any suggestion? Any help is greatly appreciated i am really feeling the pressure from my bosses.

Hello dromero323,
It seems that the checkbox 'Auto-Rotate and Centre' under Page Handling group is checked at your print dialog. Kindly uncheck it first, then go to 'Page Setup' ->'Orientation' ->'Portrait' ->'Ok' to get Portrait orientation for your prints.
Hope this would solve your problem.
Thanks and regards

  • Print a tiled PDF

How do I take a tiled 3.125 x 5.125 PDF and print (text is 6 pt.) in a readable format??

    Hi griffons3,
I'm not sure that I follow--are you tiling the PDF using the Page Handling options in the Print dialog box? If you're tiling multiple pages per sheet, such that Acrobat is scaling the pages to fit, your text is likely going to be small. Or is the text in the PDF already at 6 points and you're trying to increase the point size when you print?  Please provide a few details about how you're printing your PDF (if you're scaling it to print, and so on).
    Best,
    Sara

  • Is there a way to split a very large 1 page pdf into letter size multiple page pdf?

I often have very large single page pdfs that need to be printed onto letter size paper.  Usually I don't have access to the printer where I'm working so I have to send the file to someone for printing.
I have AXI pro, they don't.
I want to make sure the job is printed as I specify and most of the users are using Reader.  So I want to give the someone the pdf ready to print sized in legal.  This requires manipulation of the pdf that I don't seem to be able to figure out how to do.
In older versions of Acrobat, I could print to a new pdf and designate the page size.  Acrobat would create the multipage pdf.  The newer versions don't allow this.
With OSX 10.8 & AXI you can't save, export, split a one page (68" x 16") document into multiple page letter size (16 pages) pdf.
Perhaps this can be done by printing to eps and running through distiller again or something else, but I'm stumped at the moment.
Any suggestions of how to attach this would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

That's a tough one. Acrobat is not designed for tiling PDF files to create another PDF. That's really what you're asking. There is the option to PRINT to a PDF, and turn on the Poster feature. If were in Windows where there is a real Adobe PDF printer driver, you could probably use that feature. But for various reasons (too complicated to describe here), that was withdrawn on the Macintosh.
If you have a copy of Adobe InDesign, and if you installed an Adobe PDF 9 PPD file (see description below), it could be done in a somewhat awkward way. InDesign allows you to place PDF files so you would need to make a page of the proper size and place your large PDF:
Then after installing the Adobe PDF 9 PPD file, you could choose File > Print. Then choose to print a PostScript file to the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD file. In the Setup panel, you'd choose a Letter size page. Then you'd choose the Tile option at the bottom and set the Overlap amount:
Then you'd save the PostScript file and process through Distiller.

  • Paging in PDF previews

The SWF preview of multi-page PDFs isn't behaving as I would
    expect for simple online viewing.
Specifically, if you launch a preview of a multi-page PDF
doc, and scroll down to the bottom
of the page, all is as expected. You can't (as you would in
Reader) continue to arrow down to go
to the next page in the document. Okay, minor nit. But then
when you use the page arrows at the
top of the frame, the preview takes you to the bottom of the
    next page--because that's where your
    windowframe is set.
I can switch back from 1-page to 2-up view and back to 1-page
and it resets the scrollbar to the top of
the frame, but that's a bit awkward. I think that unless the
user is using the mini-navigator (i.e. a custom
page-view size) that the "next/prev" page arrows should
always reset to the "chained" section of the page.
That is, on a next page, if the window is at the bottom it
should go to the top, and on a prev page if the window
is at the top it should go to the bottom.
Or is there an equally valid viewing paradigm (e.g.,
non-page-based) for PDF/SWF where the current mode makes more
sense? Remember I'm talking about multi-page PDFs only (I think my
concern would hold for tiled PDFs, too).

Thanks, we checked those option as well but result same.
We need to create swf from PDF, after converting those PDF thin white line appears in swf (as like in  PDF), we don't need those lines. Kindly help us how to avoid these
Note: white line apears wherever the text frame placed in indeisgn.
    Thanks

  • Open PDF; path truncated.

    Hi all,
    I am running CS4 on a Mac with 10.5.8.
I have a PDF that consists of one very long line plotted on a graph. When this file is opened with Reader, Photoshop, and Preview the entire image is shown without a problem. The issue is when I open this PDF with Illustrator, it seems that the line stops about halfway through where it should. I need to load the plotted line as a path, which is why I am opening into Illustrator...
I have successfully opened similar files with lines about half as long as the one I am attempting now...
I feel like I am giving a pretty vague description of the problem, so please ask me relevant questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
    Thanks!

It seems that Illustrator caps paths at around 32,000 points.
This image is the result of a traveling salesman problem plotting 50,000 cities. (That's why there's so many points.)
I tried making a tiled PDF print, but my Acrobat won't let me Save as a PDF from the print window. Do you know how to make a tiled PDF print from an already existing PDF?

  • Issue seeking & scrubbing through a very large FLV

    BACKGROUND
I am working with a flash developer on a project where we
need to playback, scrub and seek through a 2 hour video. The
developer is controlling a locally stored 3.3 GB FLV file using the
netstream command. The FLV specs are: 640x480x29.97FPS encoded w/
key frames every 12 frames to support ½ second seek accuracy.
    PROBLEMS
It feels like the there is some caching mechanism fighting
against our seek performance past the first few minutes of the
    video.
    1) The first time we seek to any point past the first few
minutes there is a long one-time delay. If we go to the 30 minute
mark, it takes 10-15 seconds to cue the video. However, after that
one delay, subsequent seeks from 0-30 minutes are immediate.
    2) If we seek or scrub past ~5300 seconds, go back to the
start and then try to go past the 5300 mark the seek delay happens
again. So after "warming the movie up" we can quickly seek through
the first half until we attempt to pass the magic 5300 second mark.
I could live with problem #1 but #2 is a deal breaker. Here
    are some more data points:
    TESTS
    1) SMALLER FLV: If I compress the movie to 2.75 GB I can seek
further in before running into the above problem (6300 seconds)
    2) LARGER BUFFER: Setting a large pre-load buffer solved the
performance issues but there is no way we have enough RAM to
preload the entire video. (We tried and it crashed).
    3) MEMORY OBSERVATIONS: When we seeked to 30 minutes, we did
NOT notice a jump in memory usage while waiting for the video to
    cue.
Does anyone have any ideas on this one? My gut is telling me
that Flash is building some kind of time code lookup table on the
fly and it is arbitrarily limited in size.

  • Tiling options unavailble for Adobe PDF driver in Acrobat X

I am having an issue printing tiled pages using the Adobe PDF driver from Acrobat X.
Every other driver I have installed has the options to Tile Large Pages and Tile All Pages from Acrobat documents. As soon as I switch to the Adobe PDF driver, the options disappear.
We have tried removing and reinstalling the driver, as I read that this solved the issue for another user here. No luck.
Any thoughts on what could be going on here? I have been using this functionality for several months, and as far as I know nothing has changed with either Acrobat or the Adobe PDF driver since I last used it.
    I'm running Acrobat X Pro 10.1.1 on a Windows 7 PC.
Thanks for whatever insight you can provide.

    Yes, that's where I'm looking.
The options are there for all drivers but Adobe PDF. And they were there for that driver the last time I used it.

  • Tiling a pdf in Illustrator

    Hello all,
I have a big poster to print (2.5m x 3 m) into several A0 pages which I believe is called tiling. I would like to export
the tiles as a multi page pdf. I used the tiling option on the print dialog box but Adobe took off the option "save multiple page
pdf with page tiling" from the save as pdf option. I understand that it is not needed since we can create a multi page
pdf with different artboards but I want the artboards to be placed automatically with some consistent overlap all over the
poster. Is there a way to do it using artboards or any other tools from illustrator? I have access to the full creative suite so
I can use any other adobe cs products (I couldn't find a way with acrobat pro).
    Cheers

Yes you can use negative numbers in the New Document dialog. If you know how many pages it will take, just enter that number in the number of artboards box and suggest the arrangement. Enter a negative number in the Spacing box. Here's an example of 4 US letter pages ganged on one work area> The double lines are the overlap. When you export the PDF and choose Multipage PDF make sure the Use Artboards is checked in the save box.

  • How to create a pdf file where big (spread) images are tiled into small ones?

    Hi,
How do I create such (as in subject) file? I read on the net that people compain about such issue sometime occur in their export. I've to confess, I'm no expert in publishing and my friend help with creation of presentation file and I want to emulate this option as a sort of security measure, to discourage people from extracting images from my file.

While I haven't exactly managed to find the answer to my question, I've found a workaround that gives me the look that I want.
Instead of adding the 'parchment' background in Adobe Acrobat, I already add the background (as a Watermark) in the original Word 2010.  Although I think the images still get flattened, they get flattened into the parchment background so it doesn't actually matter.
    Solved now!

  • How can I save a page-tiled document as a multi-page PDF in CS6

This was very easy to do in earlier versions of Illustrator, but now it seems like the only option is to make a separate artboard for each page tile!! Please help!

i cannot figure this out, either. and i am also not able to set a custom page size to tile (in this case, tabloid/landscape). the dialog box defaults to my ppd for my epson printer (max size = letter) even when i select the drop down for "printing" to a post script file. I've been using illustrator since it's first release and i'm really surprised that this is rudimentary step in finalizing docs for release has been complicated.

  • NEED HELP PUTTING MULTIPLE PAGES TOGETHER IN 1 PDF

HOW DO I PUT 10 PAGES TOGETHER TO OPEN IN 1 PDF?

Thanks Janelle - I do not have that ability with the Epson RX580. Epson just answered my tech support question with this answer:
I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your EPSON Stylus Photo RX580. Unfortunately this feature is not available with Mac OS X. You will need a third-party software that will help you with this, such as Poster Print for Mac or Tiler. Please note though that Epson does not support these applications.
So I guess my question becomes what software can I use to print my images on multiple pages. As I do large photo transfers I need to be able to do this with my mac in an efficient way and not try to cut portions of image into seperate print jobs that would be too time consuming. HAve you had any experience with other software. If not I guess the next question  what printer would you recommend that would do this with my MAC. I have included a pic of one of my larger transfers on a cupboard. To do this I needed the image to be tiled on 8 different sheet of 8.5x11 so this is a feature I need through either software or a printer that is easy to use and easily accessible. Thanks Krista

  • How do I output a large Ai file as multiple PDFs (via views, pages, whatever)

I am working in FreeHand 10 and Illustrator CS3 on a large street map. The client wants to do his own edits to the map in Illustrator (version unknown) then output it so he can show a section per page, in an atlas he plans to publish. And maintain the map himself in the future. The base map is 30 inches square, and the section excerpted on each page of his atlas will be 7 x 9 inches.
The client currently outputs (text-only) directories in MS Word, and I'm wondering if I need to tell him "Hey, you need to buy and learn InDesign (as well as Illustrator) to output your atlas" or whether there's an easy way to output a large map in multiple PDFs, a page at a time that he could use as images in Word. I am trying to keep it sensible for everyone plus affordable.
What I know about Word is you can make a picture box, and crop images placed in the picture box, but I could only get it to crop an inch or two at most. Not the comparative "limitless" picture box found in Quark (and I assume InDesign).
(In FreeHand I had a similar atlas project where I created the master map on page 1, then made a couple dozen small pages, each with a rectangle (a frame) on a top layer. I gave each frame a "lens fill" set to a magnification of 1X, and put the centerpoint over the desired part of the master map. The section of the map appeared in the frame. This worked great for the first five or ten pages -- I could make multi-page PDFs -- a sort of PDF atlas. Eventually all the processing of lines, type, and fills bogged down my Mac's (or FreeHand's) memory so the PDF export would abort mid-stream -- I ended up outputting only individual map pages or 10-12 pages per PDF).
IS THERE A WAY to do a similar, multi-page output, or a series of little PDFs, in CS3? (Or in CS4, which is in the mail)? I know the "professional" way is to place the full EPS or PDF of the map in a page layout program and crop the picture box to the desired area. That's making more and more sense.
I get the sense from what I don't find in the CS3 User Manual that the only way to output a drawing is a page at a time (and naturally only one page per file). I would feel a little nervous in CS4 making an array of multiple pages butted against each other and laying the map on top of them all (but maybe that would work). CS4 has "views" but I don't know if they correspond to output files.
There are enough pages in the finished atlas that it's not economical to make the master map into a big PDF, save multiple copies, then crop each PDF on a different section of the map (such as using Apple Preview). Enough hand-work that labor would equal the cost of the software we're tentatively too frugal to buy. (A clue as to how to proceed).
The client is on a PC (not necessarily a powerful one); has a friend with Illustrator. Is open to upgrading his equipment. I'm on a Mac G4, running Illustrator CS3 and soon CS4.
At a certain point it may be the least troublesome approach is to lay the learning curve and burden of [computer and] software acquisiiton on the client and let each piece of software do what it does best. Or say, "sorry, editable files aren't practical, but here's a good set of prints for you to mark up, and I'll do the edits and make you a set of PDFs" which is more how I usually work.
I acknowledge this was a rather long, multi-stranded question; thanks to anyone who waded through it, and I apprciate any wisdom anyone can offer. Thanks!

    ...continued
If this is a valued and expectedly ongoing relationship, regardless of whether the files working files are going to be in FH or AI, I would make sure that both your and his working files are both on the same application (and I would say even the same platform).
    > The client currently outputs (text-only) directories in MS Word, and I'm wondering if I need to tell him "Hey, you need to buy and learn InDesign (as well as Illustrator) to output your atlas".
I would politely and briefly commend the client for considering doing his own routine edit maintenance, but caution him that such edits need to be done in the native map files, not in the "container" file of whatever program he imports the artwork into. Doing so will likely involve a not-impractical, but still-significant learning curve for him or his staff--editing the maps requires at least working familiarity with a vector drawing program--and offer your services to help him along the way as he learns. If the client is going to commit to doing his own edits, he needs to commit up-front to doing them
correctly in the native illustration files' format. Otherwise, he will be asking for trouble down the road that will eventually cost him more than the benefits of bringing the edits in-house.
    >...or whether there's an easy way to output a large map in multiple PDFs, a page at a time that he could use as images in Word.
PDF exported from FH will not provide the client the editability you have suggested he needs. PDF exported from Illustrator (with AI editability included) will have the same file-size problem you've already encountered: Content of the map beyond the page is merely masked, not actually removed.
    > I am trying to keep it sensible for everyone plus affordable.
    I commend
you for that stance. Freelance illustrators often shoot themselves in the foot by being overly protective of
practial illustration / design work that a client rightly
needs to be able to edit. Helping the client achieve self-sufficency can be just as profitable (or more so) than requiring the client to come back to you for every little edit.
    > What I know about Word...
Include in your explanation with your client: Common office- or personal-productivity software, by their nature, lack technical capability necessary and proper for commercial reproduction. It's not that they are "bad" or "amateurish" programs; they're just not designed for the purpose.
Leave open the option of re-importing the map illustrations into Word, if the client still wants to. But re-emphasize that any routine
editing of the working map files needs to be done in their native illustration program.
    > (In FreeHand I had a similar atlas project where I [used Lens objects]. This worked great for the first five or ten pages...[but eventually]...bogged down....
Illustrator provides nothing like FreeHand's excellent Lens Fill feature. You can use Clipping Masks and Symobls as a cumbersome workaround, but you'll have the same file-size issues, because you are merely masking artwork, not actually removing it.
I must admit I can't remember if FH's Lens objects actually trim to their content after being Ungrouped, (and don't presently have FH on this laptop to check), but I don't think so. If they did, then Lens objects would be an alternative to the other cutting method described below.
    > IS THERE A WAY to do a similar, multi-page output, or a series of little PDFs, in CS3? (Or in CS4, which is in the mail)?
I strongly suspect that artwork that
spans adjacent pages in AI CS4 will be treated the same as artworking which
extends beyond the artboard in current AI: it will be merely masked with a clipping path when exported to PDF, not trimmed. The same sloppy and data-heavy content problems will persist.
    > I get the sense from what I don't find in the CS3 User Manual that the only way to output a drawing is a page at a time (and naturally only one page per file).
    No. In CS3 you could:
    1. Open the 30 x 30 map in AI on a 30 x 30 Artboard.
    2. In the Print dialog, set up 7 x 9 page tiling, and in the Output pane, select Tile Full Pages.
    3. Export a multi-page PDF.
But again, the content of the PDF pages would merely mask the artwork that extends beyond each page tile. Your PDF file(s) will still likely be much larger than necessary.
Understand, that may still be a workable option if the client places in his page layouts some
other format that actually crops the artwork. In other words, you could:
    1. Get the FH native artwork into AI and perform all the cleanup necessary for the AI file to become from now on your permanent working file.
    2. Use a single Artboard, and use PageTiling as described above to export the multi-page PDF.
    3. Use Acrobat Professional to export the PDF pages to raster images.
    4. Place the raster images in whatever program is to be used for the whole document page layouts.
    > The client is on a PC (not necessarily a powerful one); has a friend with Illustrator. Is open to upgrading his equipment. I'm on a Mac G4, running Illustrator CS3 and soon CS4.
The above workflow should work fine. To be self-sufficient, it would require as a minimum:
    * The client contracting with you to build a proper and clean AI version of the FH map. Depending on the actual content, that may be a straightforward file translation, or it may require alot of tedious and time-consuming cleanup after importing the FH artwork.
    * The client (and/or friend) would need Illustrator and Acrobat Pro, plus whatever program he choses for the page assembly work. If he/they use AI CS4, that
may suffice for the page-assembly portion of the work, too. That's yet to be seen. One limitation that comes immediately to mind is that AICS4's long overdue multiple page capability is (unlike FH's) limited to 100 pages.
    > Or say, "sorry, editable files aren't practical, but here's a good set of prints for you to mark up, and I'll do the edits and make you a set of PDFs" which is more how I usually work.
That is, of course, for you to work out with the client. It sounds like your head is screwed on straight. You are looking for the most practical and expedient solution to server your customer, not being denfensive and desirous of requiring the client to come to you for every little edit.
The decisions is going to boil down to how much actual illustration editing know-how he wants to take on. It can be a great hands-on training opportunity for you as his "on call" trainer. That arrangement would provide your client the practical autonomy he wants, with the comfort and confidence that things won't get out of whack with you as his outsource guru.
Or, the client may find that the editing tasks require more hands-on skill than he wants to take on. Consider doing a walk-through exercise to show him (and/or his staff) the skills involved in the kinds of edits they will need to make routinely.
Regardless, though, I would firmly insist that the editing needs to be always done "according to Hoyle" in the native illustration program--and
never (stress this) by means of cheezy workaounds in the page-layout program, or some intermediate program. That is
not in your client's best interest, even if it seems initially the "easy way out." It will quickly lead to the map artwork becomming an unmanageable mess.

  • View Multiple PDFs in tabs in ONE window in ADOBE 9

OK...so after hours of uninstalling and reinstalling adobe 9 to get past adobe's multiple error messages and running CHCKDSK and Windows registry cure I finally get Adobe reader 9 to work, only to find out that
I can not view multiple pdf's in one window in tiled tabs. Basically I need to have several pdf's open in one window in adobe. I'm a student and writer and deal with multiple e-books at once for dissemination and I do not want them open in multiple windows, just one window with multiple tabs.
In adobe 8 this option was in preferences. It does not exist in adobe 9. I can not have all these pdfs open in different windows, I want multiple pdfs to open in one window.
This has been a very frustrating evening dealing with adobe 9. I wish I would have never installed it in the first place. I probably won't be buying 9 pro, its pretty crazy that there are all these frustrations. This whole thing with the Error 2330.Error getting file attributes C:\Program Files\AdobeReader 9.0 GetLastError:1392 which I finally fixed myself and then to find that there is not any way to view multiple pdf's in one adobe 9 window--at least according to what can be found here on adobe, I'm just in tears. I'm not a technical person and I have things due on monday. This is very frustrating.

The change is due to Adobe's following Microsoft's user interface
guidelines. I would recommend getting MS to change its tune.

  • How to create multi page PDF in illustrator CC?

Hello, can anyone help with this, used to be able to do it easily in CS but doesnt seem to be available when saving a PDF file in CC?..... really frustrating!

    Hi Monika,
When I open my old tiled illustrator file in CC, it asks if I want to open a legacy art board. I do this.
This then displays on screen correctly as the individually paged tiles.
This is all fine. However when I then want to save as PDF there is no option to save this PDF as a multipage document.
The saved PDF file just comes out as one long single drawing board page and isn’t split into individual pages when read back in by Acrobat

Thanks in advance for any help you can lend.
I have a 16 page .indd document that I'm trying to export via "print booklet", using Adobe PDF 9.0 as my printer.
