Time Capsule 2TB

Just purchased a Time Capsule 2TB. In our home we have a combo modem/router from Verizon. Can the Time Capsule be used with this unit or do I need to get a different stand alone modem?

If you want to back up a desktop, return the TC and get an external drive of the fastest kind available to your budget and Mac. ie USB3 far superior to USB2 and FW800.. but FW800 is far superior to USB 2.. Thunderbolt is superior to all but costs arm and a leg and most of the bits inbetween.
For a laptop or notebook.. there is nothing around for the price. It works really well as TM target over wireless. That is its design forte!
Remember it is covered by applecare on any computer you own. So whilst it only has 1year warranty it is up to 3years if you have or even buy a Mac with applecare up to 2years into the future. (warranty rules depend on local country laws but that is generally the idea).
At the 3year mark or a few months before.. wipe it and sell for a new one.. judging by current prices you should get back 1/2-1/3 of your money.. although Apple could kill it in the future with a new product.

  • How to use AirPort Time Capsule 2TB as an external storage hard drive only?

I have a new AirPort Time Capsule 3TB, now I want to use my AirPort Time Capsule 2TB as an external storage hard drive only, how do I it?
I would like to  connect the AirPort Time Capsule 2TB directly to my Mac Pro. using OS X 10.7.5.
I have erase disk and reset the 2TB to factory default, after that, I cannot make it to connect to my Mac.  Please help.

The 2TB Time Capsule needs to connect to your 3TB Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
Connect from a LAN <--> port on the 3 TB Time Capsule to the WAN "O" port on the 2 TB Time Capsule and configure the 2TB Time Capsule in Bridge Mode and turn off the wireless function on the device as well.
Once that is done, you can connect your Mac directly to the 2TB Time Capsule using another Ethernet cable, or your Mac can connect to the network using the normal wireless network, if you prefer.

  • I am a fitst time user of the new airport extreme time capsule 2TB. I have a mac book pro and an imac. I installed the router today and got my computers online wirelessly. BUT I cannot get my previous wireless printers to connect with the router.

I am a first time user of the new airport extreme time capsule 2TB. I use a macbook pro and imac. I installed the router today and got on wirelessly. BUT I cannot get my 2 printers that were previously wireless to find the router signal. The worked fine on my current set up OS Mounitain Lion 10.8.4.  Apple tells me it is the printer mfr issue and printer companies tell me it is apple issue. Any help appreciated.

    Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.
Apple's printing support documents contain a great deal of redundancy, but this one may be a good place to start: OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a printer to print wirelessly

  • Time Capsule 2TB vs. Netgear WNDR3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless Router

Hey everyone, I just bought the Time Capsule 2TB since I was running out of space at home and wanted a solution for both PC and MAC machines. Upon installation I learned that the TC can actually be my Wireless Router! Right? For some reason I never knew it could do this - I thought it could just be a wireless harddrive.
Ok, so I already had a wireless router (the Netgear WNDR3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless Router). So my questions are the following:
    1) Is the TC a completely safe and equal replacement for the Netgear Wireless Router that I have?
    2) Currently the TC is setup as a wireless HD on my network (where the Netgear is the router) and the transfer speeds I am seeing are pretty darn slow! I am assuming it is because the data needs to go from LAPTOP -> Router -> TC. Right? So my question is, if the TC is setup as the actual wireless router, then would the data transfers be faster? Since I would only have to go from LAPTOP -> TC to store the data.
One more side question regarding the TC and connecting a printer:
    3) If the printer has scanning capabilities, then where does this scanned document file go when the printer is connected to the TC ?
    Thanks for your help!
    John

    John, welcome to the discussions!
I can provide a few thoughts and hopefully, others will as well.
"1) Is the TC a completely safe and equal replacement for the Netgear Wireless Router that I have?"
It appears to offer essentially the same features and performance at a glance. If you are using ethernet devices, the TC has 3 LAN ports, while there are 4 on the Netgear.
"So my question is, if the TC is setup as the actual wireless router, then would the data transfers be faster?"
I think it will be about the same. You could of course hook up the TC and try it, but I doubt that you would notice any measurable difference.
"3) If the printer has scanning capabilities, then where does this scanned document file go when the printer is connected to the TC ?"
Assuming that your printer is compatible with the TC you will be able to print, but advanced functions such as copying, scanning, maintenance, etc. will not work. You will need to connect your all-in-one directly to your computer if you need these other services.

  • 306 Error Printing with Time Capsule 2TB

I just upgraded from a 1st Generation Time Capsule (500GB) to a 4th Generation Time Capsule (2TB).  I have a Canon MP600 printer connected via USB to the Time Capsule.  In my previous setup, this worked flawlessly and other computers on the network could print to this device.  With the new setup, I'm receiving a 306 Error printing to the printer via the new Time Capsule.
    I have:
    Reset the printer system information.
Rest the TC to default settings, attached the USB for the printer, and restarted the device.
Tested the USB direct connection to my printer (works fine).
I feel like this has to be related to the new TC...wondering if I've got a setting mixed up.
Any help would be great - I've reviewed most of the postings related to this subject, but this one feels different as it involves an upgrade to new TC and I'm not trying to use a wireless printer.

First, restart your MacBook Pro and your Time Capsule. This solves the problem in most of the cases.
    If it doesn't work, see > http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html

  • I purchased a new Time Capsule (2TB - 2013), and I would like to use my old Time Capsule to extend the range of my wireless network.

I purchased a new Time Capsule (2TB - 2013), and I would like to use my old Time Capsule to extend the range of my wireless network. I can't get them to communicate. Any ideas?

You need to use the airport utility on a computer.
If you use v6 utility it is fairly easy and straight forward.
The trick is to place the old TC in the same room as the new one.
Do a full factory reset and then you can just go through the utility to extend wireless network.
I did one post with all the pictures.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24161378#24161378
If you have issues just ask.
Then you can place the old TC about half way between the new TC and the clients would want to connect.. the half way point is not distance but wireless signal levels.
You can pick that up by using the wireless diagnostics in a mac laptop and walking around to pick up the signals.
This is for extend wireless.. if you want roaming network it is entirely different. That means they are plugged together with ethernet.
Tell us if you mean roaming not wireless extend.

  • I bught a new Time Capsule 2Tb. I connected it to my internet router. I manege to set it up as base station but when i try to use it with time machine I always get the message "Check your IP addres"? What am I doing wrong? On my computer I have OSX 10.7.5

What IP address does the TC have and what IP does the computer have?
We need more info as we really have no idea what your network looks like.
Modem router, model, type of broadband?
TC setup as bridge or router?
Is the computer getting internet via the TC?
Are you using wireless or ethernet?
Have you set IPv6 correctly to local link in the computer on whichever network client is doing the connection?
Did this work the first time for backup and has now failed? If so simply reboot the TC. It is a constant bug that the TC is lost to the network.

  • I have a new mac book pro and and older MAC desktop.  Both are backing up to my time capsule but it is close to full (1TB).  If I purchase a new time capsule (2TB) can I bridge them or access both and back up to it still from both computers?

If you add another Time Capsule, you can have one or both Macs backup to that new device.
However, please note that it is not possible to have backups "carry over" seamlessly from one Time Capsule to another.
If you add a new Time Capsule, each Mac that is backing up to the new device will make a new complete backup and then backup incrementally after the master backup is completed.

  • Can i use the time capsule 2tb as a internet provider without having internet access?

Can i use the time capsule 2tb as a internet provider without having internet access?

Nope, the time capsule is a router, but it will still need access to the outside world (Internet) by way of a modem.

  • New Time Capsule 2Tb does not do FULL backup

I've been using a 500Gb USB drive and decided to upgrade to a Time Capsule 2Tb.
Installation goes without a problem. Everything the manual says should happen, happens. So far so good.
Starting Time Machine, I'm asked if I want to replace the previous Time Machine or use both. I select replace.
Using an ethernet cable to speed the process, Time Machine starts making the initial backup. This should be full.
However, after it finished - no apparent error messages, Time Machine just closed on its own - I decided to check that some of my most important files had been backed up. I have 3 VMs. Only 1 had been backed up!
I'm assuming there will be other files that haven't been backed up. But why isn't this a FULL backup??

It is all the information that was backed up in the first one. After it started backing up after the second time I deleted that .plist file, it only backed up 4MB...it seems to be doing that now.
Edit: an interesting error seen in the time machine widget is "Could not mount recovery partition"

  • My computer is macbook white with iOS 10. 6.8, will i able to use the new Airport Time Capsule 2TB and what does it mean administrate the Airport Time Capsule 2TB ?

my computer is macbook white with Mac OS X (10. 6.8), will i able to use the new Airport Time Capsule 2TB and work properly with Time Capsule on my computer to back up wirelessly?
And what does it mean "to administrate" because it was written in requirement of the Airport Time Capsule 2TB ?

You must use a Mac running Lion (10.7.5), Mountain Lion or Mavericks to be able to set up the Time Capsule and make any changes to the settings.
A recent version iPhone or iPad could also be used for this task.
From the Specifications on the Time Capsule:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3

  • How to extend mobile wifi LTE with 2013 AirPort Time Capsule 2TB

Recently I bought 2013 AirPort Time Capsule 2TB, and Im trying to extend HUAWEI E5776 4G/LTE wifi connection with this Airport Time Capsule
Im using iMac airport utility but it seems there was a "crash" when I had choose the extending option, As it went nowhere
Does this airport can only be used with internet cable ?
I also have an old version of Airport Extreme which i can actually extend HUAWEI E5776 4G/LTE mobile wifi connection
I assume perhaps there is something need to be updated?
    Other questions are

    Thanks for your help

The instructions for upgrade install of DD-WRT are very clear.. and simple although you should always take care. I read the instructions and follow them.. It might seem like obvious but 90% of the issues people get themselves into is caused by not reading the instructions.
DIR-632 has a set of specific instructions.
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-632
Follow them to the letter deviating neither to the left or the right.
    And good results will follow.
As with any products in the domestic realm.. some are excellent .. some average and some stink real bad.
I have dealt with rotten products from all the major companies. Netgear still have plenty of stinkers out there.
Any universal wireless repeater should work.. be careful though with some products are actually not UNIVERSAL. I do take great care again to find out if people can use the Netgear with products from another brand. All wireless is voodoo .. wireless across brands is like voodoo plus plus.
My current Asus router is one of the best I have owned .. RT-AC66U.. far superior to what went before.
And I usually avoid dlink like the plague, but it is important to realise that amongst the dross there can still be specks of gold.
