Time capsule 802.11n
I bought my time capsule a few weeks ago, it´s working fine. My question is what happens if I erase a file from my computer and a new back up is made in time capsule, will the file that was store in the previos back up also be areased?
that's the whole point of time machine, you can go back in time and hunt around your system to find a file deleted.
The best thing you could do to prove this is to do a backup, delete a file, do a backup again, then go back in time and find the file again... To prove this, I've just gone back to JUNE to find a file I deleted a while ago!

I have an 2tb time capsule 802.11n Wi-Fi base station can I use this as an external hard drive and use a new airport extreme 802.11ac Wi-Fi for my wifi?
You can use the 2 TB Time Capsule as a network drive. That means that it must connect to one of the Ethernet LAN <--> ports on the new AirPort Extreme, or connect to the network using wireless.

My new Time capsule 802.11n (4th generation) remains saving after a long time (3 weeks) but there is no backups files in time machine. It seems that it is working without results. What should I do?
Hello, no experience with TC, but...
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?
http://Pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Can't imaging something not being covered there. -
When I start my MacBook Air, I get a problem report on the Time Capsule 802.11n. When I click Continue, it asks for a password. I don't know what the password is because I didn't set this up. How can I find out what the password is?
Who set it up?

Apple TV and Time Capsule 802.11n -- idle timeout and group key stuff...
I've been having some wireless issues since moving to a Time Capsule to provide my 802.11n service.
I have my time capsule setup as an 802.11n only router, on a 5 ghz band only, with WPA2 security (AES-CCMP.) My reception is great -- but I've noticed in the logs that there's an idle disconnect that seems to occur about every 10 minutes.
What seems to be happening is that when the idle disconnect occurs, the AppleTV renews its connection. The problem, at least 90% of the time, is that if the "group key timeout" value in the Airport Admin Utility has been passed AND the idle timeout occurs, the unit appears to be unable to connect to the network unless you reboot OR reenter the network password.
The Time Capsule is setup strictly from a networking standpoint as a wireless bridge -- I have an existing network DHCP server, and during the disconnects, a DHCP renewal is not occurring.
Another observation when this issue is occurring: on the "Network" settings page, instead of selecting wireless network, you can select TCP/IP, and select "DHCP" and the unit will state that it has successfully connected to the network, and states the network name. The Time Capsule though doesn't show an active client; I have to assume this is some sort of bug.
Since the unit works fine after a reboot, I have to assume something isn't quite right with the way it is attempting to reconnect to grab an update group key after an idle timeout occurs.
I'd like to test this further, but I can't find anyway in the Airport Admin Utility to change the idle timeout value. There's a place to enter the group key timeout, but not the idle timeout.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior and found a way around it?

Message was edited by: Matt DomeniciJust one more follow-up post to say that I continue to have the same problem. (Just picked up my TC and aTV on Tuesday and didn't get a chance to do too much with it until this weekend.
I have the TC running in bridge mode to my FIOS Actiontec router. The Actiontec does DHCP for the home network (has to because of paculiarities with FIOS on MOCA with a cable TV set-top box) and runs an 802.11 g network for all my non-N hardware (iPhone, older computers, etc.). The TC runs 5 GHz N-only, and the aTV connects to that. I set things up this way because I wanted to keep the aTV and my N-capable computers on a dedicated wireless channel for speed.
Alas, I'm afraid I'm going to have to use the aTV on the G network, or perhaps ethernet, until this problem gets sorted out. -
Can my time capsule 802.11n (4th gen) affect performance?
for several months i have been having trouble with what i think is excessive read/writing and a slowdown creating the dreaded beachballs. i especially have trouble when safari is open.
can my time capsule cause these symptoms? about a week ago i got a message that i was not connected to the internet even though i had just been using it. i called my isp (wow) thinking they were down. the rep said that they weren't having trouble, but he was getting a week signal from my router (time capsule).
in the last few days i have been experiencing beachball delays on my laptop, which uses my home wifi. i have not had trouble with my laptop before, only my intel imac.
when i run the airport utility, it tells me that my time capsule is ok.
is it possible that a failing time capsule is causing my problems? i bought the time capsule in early 2012.
here is my etrecheck report, if this helps.

thank you for your help.i'm writing to report. i downloaded the java update that a brody suggested. i ran fix disk permissions and then tried the internet. i started out using firefox and then chrome. they were nimble and responsive (sounds like a car review). then i tried safari. it was slowwwwwwwwwwww. no beachballs, now gray revolving circles. safari is /was so slow it often takes a while for a character i have typed to show up on the screen.
i have rerun etrecheck and the outdated javaapplet plugin message is still there as though i have not updated my imac.
i am going to remove some of the 3rd party software, but i'd like to be sure that i have accomplished what i needed to do re java.
does anyone have any other ideas about safari besides using another browser?
thank you.

Time Capsule 802.11n WiFi Hard Drive 1TB
Does this act as a Wireless Router as well?
Which wireless router will perform better XFINITY or my Time Capsule?
It is impossible to answer without a full breakdown of the network and what you do with it.
It may not even be possible if the XFINITY wireless is not bridgeable.
And there is usually no real need to choose. If your modem router is supplied keep using it as router.
Plug the TC in by ethernet and run it in bridge mode (that is router bridge). But you can still use the wireless on the TC. Simply set it up the way you want and make sure the two do not interfere with each other.. you can do this by locking radio channels. You can use identical SSID (wireless name) and security on both and the clients will join to the strongest signal. But it is better to use this setup with the two separated by a few meters at least if not in different rooms. -
How to Setup Airport Time Capsule 802.11AC on Verizon fios
I just got an Airport Time Capsule 802.11AC and i would like to set it up on to my existing verizon fios router as you can't change their router as the cable box works with it does anyone know how to do such a thing?
Setup is amazingly quick and easy, assuming that you connect a permanently installed Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the Fios router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule, and then use AirPort Utility on your Mac or iPhone/iPad for the setup.
We need to know what operating system you are using on your Mac to provide any specific setup details. Or, let us know if you are going to use an iPhone or iPad for the setup.
The Time Capsule will set up another wireless network, so if you do not need two networks, you can turn off the wireless on either the FIos or Time Capsule. If you decide to have two networks, be sure to separate the Fios router and Time Capsule by 5-6 feet or a few meters.....to minimize the chances of wireless interference occurring between the two devices. -
I am considering buying a Time Capsule and use Time Machine to back up 2 iMacs (specs of both below).
However I see that Time Capsule uses 802.11n Wi-Fi and System Profiler says: Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g'.
Hoping someone can elucidate/elaborate...?
With thanks,
GillyI checked my TC and in the wireless tab of Airport Utility, the radio mode can be selected. The options are 80211.n (b/g compatible), 80211n (a compatible), 80211n 2.4GHz, and 80211n 5GHz.
If you have wireless phones in the house you might want to check the freqs to avoid potential signal conflict. This shouldn't be a problem though as long as the devices potentially using the same freq use different channels. DECT 6 phone should not be a problem. Older phones might be a problem i.e. 2.4GHz phones.
After all this, actual thruput on the Internet is dependent on your ISP and the loading of the Internet. I tested on http://speedtest.net and experienced no significant changes in thruput to the same test site no matter what 80211n mode (g or n) or freq setting (2.4/5GHz) I used. -
Extending Wireless Network Is Crippling Data Speeds - Time Capsule 802.11ac
Just set up a new Time Capsule (3TB ac) to replace my older 2TB dual-band TC. I had successfully been running a network with another dual-band Airport Extreme (bought this year/the model before current one) extending from the older TC.
Now when I extend the network using my new TC and the same, older AE, the whole networks grinds down severely. Most times, pages dont even start to load for 10-20 seconds, and then I watch the load up slowly. Testing the speed on Speedtest, the data seems to stop and start a few times, sometimes peaking at around 30Mbpsm but the rate is all over the place.
The second I turn the wireless Network Mode to "Off" on the AE, the system comes right back up and Im getting my constant 60 Mbps.
Im up to date on all firmware.
Running OSX 10.9
This is a days old iMac 27" i7
Something seems seriously wrong here and Im at a loss for figuring it out. I was hoping the new range of the TCs would allow me to get rid of the extending AE altogether, but even in my modest sized home, the network is sketchy from the opposite end of the house. So unfortunately, Im going to have to figure something out here. I really hoping the answer isnt to buy a new AE with ac.You are aware that you must completely reset a cable modem whenever you change the device that is connected to the modem, correct?
The cable modem may need a power down period of up to 30 minutes, sometimes longer.
The reason for this is that the cable modem associates with the first device that it connects with. If you connect another device, the cable modem "remembers" and "looks" for the old device. When it does not see it....because it is no there.....it refuses to give out an IP address to the "new" device.
The trick is make the cable modem "forget" the original device, so it will associate with a new device.
If you want to try the 802.11ac product, see this excellent User Tip provided by forum expert Tesserax for the correct setup.

New Time Capsule (802.11ac) issues reading files on USB drive
My 802.11ac Time Capsule reguarly fails to read .mp4 files stored on an external HDD drive connected to the Time Capsule via USB. All the files were tested as working when they were copied over, then for some unexplained reason the Time Capusle refuses to recognise them when they are accessed at a later time. This happens for about 1 out of 3 files (sometimes more). All the files are .mp4 format video files. Detacthing the Seagate drive from the Time Capsule and connecting it directly to the MacBook Air fixes the problem and allows the files to be read and played normally – this indicates the problem is with the Time Capsule, not the Segate drive.
Symptoms;
1) iTunes generates a file error with trying playing the video from iTunes,
2) selecting the file from Finder no longer generates a playable preview thumbnail as the Finder preview box remains blank (white),
3) attempting to play the file from Finder generates an unrecognisable file error in QuickTime,
4) connecting the external drive directly to the MacBook fixes the problem (the file can be read and played normally),
5) the files remain readable after reconnecting the external drive back to the Time Capsule, however the problem just reoccurs again later.
My normal use case is playing movies and TV programmes from iTunes to my television via Apple TV. Apple TV plays the video files over WiFi from the iTunes Library on my MacBook Air. The video files in my library are physically located on the Seagate external HDD attached to my Time Capsule.
I use a mid-2012 MacBook Air 13" running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I have an 802.11ac (2 TB) Time Capsule (latest firmware 7.7.1) with a Seagate (1 TB) GoFlex drive attached (to the Time Capsule) via USB 2.0 (USB powered). The Seagate is my media drive and holds all my movies and TV programmes (all in .mp4 format). Both drives are Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with single partions. Time Capsule network is set to Bridged mode to resolve double NAT. I have an Airport Express extending the wireless netowrk to my MacBook Air. Prior to errors occuring, all files tested ok as follows; file plays ok locally on MacBook Air, files play ok from Finder after being moved to the Seagate, files play ok from iTunes library (pointing to Seagate).
Disk Utility verifies the Seagate drive has being OK. No other network issues.Problem Solved!
The 1TB external HDD attached to my Time Capsule was divided into 2 equal partitions. The first partition used to be my Time Machine backup which I deleted and made available as free space. The second partition was the one I was copying to. It seems the Time Capsule has a problem with blank partitions on an external HDD. Once I repartioned the drive into a single 1TB partition, everything worked fine and my Time Capsule no longer crashes. -
Re: Time Capsule & 802.11g
Has anybody used a Time Capsule over 802.11g? How is the performance? Thanks.
The goal of this testing is to ***** the Time Capsule as a network access point, not a network disk. Disk read/write is not part of this experiment. Each of the measurements above (repeated w/ typo fixed so you don't have to scroll) are results from the exact same test -- testing internet upload and download performance to a test server on the speedtest.net network.
My topology is as follows:
SBC DSL -> 2Wire modem -> TimeCapsule
For the tests below, I connected my MacBook Pro to each device, wirelessly via 802.11g and direct connect via Ethernet and ran the test from speedtest.net. Since I have a 3Mb connection, the speed of my ethernet is irrelevant. The results of the testing is below and the results show that using the Time Capsule as an 802.11g hub is slow, in fact 75% slower.
Internet Performance (3Mb service)
network performance -- connecting via
*660k dl/430 ul -- TimeCapsule (802.11g - single base station, or as WDS main)*
2546k dl/429 ul -- TimeCapsule (Ethernet Hard Wired)
2547 dl/432 ul -- 2Wire 802.11g
2546 dl/431 ul -- 2Wire (Ethernet Hard Wired)
My conclusion, based on this testing and from several posts in this discussion board is that the Time Capsule exhibits poor performance for hosts connecting via 802.11g. -
Do I need File Sharing on or off for time machine to work
RichardI have a time capsule and I was using disk sharing.
I don't want to do that anymore and deleted the folder I had on Time Capsule and turned off file sharing.
Now Time Machine won't work. It wants that shared disk.
It doesn't see my Time Capsule, only the shared disk.
What do I do? -
Time Capsule 802.11ac - SMBv1.5 and NTLMv1 authentication
2015 is coming...
Why are protocols in Time Capsule so old?
What about firmware update with SMBv2 and NTLMv2 support? Are your questions for Apple?
If yes, you have posted on a forum of users.....just like you.....and it is extremely unlikely that anyone from Apple will ever see your post here. Even if they might, they will not answer on this forum.
You might want to contact Apple directly here:

Setting up Time Capsule with existing AirPort Extreme 802.11n and AirPort Express.
I already have and am using an AirPort Extreme 802.11n with an AirPort Express. I want to set up a Time Capsule 802.11n. Which is the best way to configure this?
... Which is the best way to configure this?
The answer depends on what you need the TC to accomplish. If all you need it to do is perform Time Machine backups, simply have it join your existing network in client mode. It would be if it were to connect to your existing router (presumably your Extreme), not through an "extended" wireless network (presumably your Express).
If you need the TC to "extend" your network so as to serve additional wireless clients, you can do that also. Configure it to "extend" the network created by your Extreme.
As you can see it's quite versatile.

Bug in either ANSI Join or Oracle 10.2
I can't tell whose bug this is, but it's almost certainly a bug. My co-worker Martin wrote a query (below) that returned zero rows, which he knew was wrong. In exploring this further, he discovered that rewriting the join from ANSI 92 to the old WHER

Can't sync a blackberry with the new Macbook
I'm asking a question for a friend of mine who bought the new MB. She can't get her blackberry to sync using either pocketmac or missing sync. She's been talking to folks at Apple stores and pocketmac, and they've said it's a known hardware issue. So
