Thanks so from what you have said I should copy all the music and photos onto it using computer the play them using ipad
That is a plan.. I am not sure it is the best plan.. what application are you going to use to run the music?? If you mean itunes then no.. you may as well leave it on the computer.. photos.. hmm.. again what are you going to do.. move the iphoto library to the TC.. but ipad cannot open it.. so you have to move raw photos.. and store them in an area without backup?? May also not be great plan.. but you need to work it out.. whatever you do.. remember the TC is unsafe place to store files. It is a backup target for Time Machine without any ability to backup itself (other than a manually initiated full disk backup).

  • Just bought Time capsule 2tb from apple No Airport CD in the package

I just bought the time capsule from an Apple store,  The setup manual called about a Airport CD which was not in the package,  I have setup my wifi at home, however I have to setup a Windows Vista (already joined the time capsule) for printing,  The manual stated using the Airport CD to installl Bonjour for windows.
Should i have a cd with the purchase?
with my dlink router  (which i just replaced with Time capsule) i was able to set time restrictions for all computers on the wi-fi ,  when to access the web. mac address restrictions,  I do not appear to have that capability with the time capsule.  is this correct?  I configured the time capsule via  the airport utility on my mac,  no additional cd.  by not having the cd am i missing additional confguration parameters that I can tweak?

No, assuming that you have the most recent version of AirPort Utility, which is 5.5.3. You can open AirPort Utility and click on the AirPort Utility menu next to the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
    Click Check for Updates.
Using the Timed Access feature on the Time Capsule, you can set up individual restrictions for devices that are allowed to connect to the wireless.
    Bonjour for Windows is here:

  • How do you extend the guest network on a time capsule to an apple express?

I have a time capsule in my main house with a password protected guest network i set up an apple express in the guest house to extend the networks. Unfortunately the guest house / apple express is only amplifying the main house network. I would like my tenant to join the guest network from apple express. Is that possible?

Sorry, but Apple does not allow the Guest Network to be extended in any way.

  • Time capsule for 5 apple tv to play 5 tv at once?

I have an office with 5 smart tv and I need to play some videos all day long (HD videos very heavy) in the five tv, If I buy a time capsule and 5 apple tv can I play all 5 tv at once? Any other solution?
    Thanks

Does each TV run a different program or are they all the same?
Are the TV close to each other if you are running the same material in each one.. you can usually interlink the TVs. Or there are special devices used by every TV retailer in the world to link multiple TV to a single program source.
If you have 5 TV and need to be able to run 5 different programs with HD, yes that is possible as long as you use ethernet all the way.. wireless is not going to work.
The program material cannot be stored on the TC.. it is not a media player. Nor a media storage device, nor anything at all but a dumb hard disk in a router.
If you already have a router in the network all you need to connect the Apple TV to the computer that must be running iTunes.. is a switch. Gigabit of course.
I wish you luck on this.. the demands of multiple independent streaming is very high.

  • Best file manager with SMB and streaming support? Time Capsule access?

Constantly having to jump through hoops it seems, because of no file manager in iOS. Another simple scenario: have 2 disks connected to my Apple Time Capsule. Can accesss them with Android phones, always in trouble finding a good app on iPhone. Any tips? Wish I could also stream my home videos, etc from these disks. Documents 5 (Readdle) can access them via SMB, but not stream, which is nasty for large videos.
    Thank you,
    Roman

I was experiencing the same problem when I upgraded to a Time Capsule. To fix the problem remove all personal file sharing port mapping settings. Then make sure that the enable  file share, and enable over WAN is on and checked for the TC, then update the TC. While that's updating go into the server app and remove any old file sharing protocols from the TC on the server app. Next add a new custom protocol by hitting the + name it file share and set the port to 140. hit the update button and wait for it to finish. Once that's finish go back to the airport utility and find the newly made file share protocol by selecting it under port mapping for the TC. If you don't have the newly made one in there make a new one your self. Name it the same as you did in the server app and set the public TCP ports to 140 and the private TCP ports to 548, make sure the private IP address is set to the same as your server in the reserve. Update the time capsule and you should be able to access both by putting in the appropriate afp://www.yourserver.com:140 for the server and afp://www.yourserver.com:548  for the TC. Have fun, lion server can be a little fussy!

  • Time Capsule Access?

Is there anyway to restrict or limit individual Mac/PC access to the Internet, both wired and wireless, through the Airport Utility using the latest generation Time Capsule?

The controls in the TC are at best primitive.. time control for wireless.. that is the grand total.
The idea for parental control with apple is to control on the end device. IMHO it is much easier to control at the router.. for that you need a brand with more controls.. particularly things like Quota or QoS are strictly outside of the Apple purview.. and hard to find anywhere actually, although some offer site restrictions. I recommend a Netgear WNDR3800 running gargoyle firmware. Never assume kids cannot find a work around though.

  • Unable to connect to Time Capsule: "Access the volumes and files locally"

I've been experiencing a problem for about two months now with no ability to connect to my Time Capsule. I have other systems in my household including being able to access from a Windows desktop and another older MacBook.
When I attempt to connect to the Time Capsule, I receive an error "The server <Capsule Name> is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally."
I've attempted various fixes including changing the network sharing name of my laptop and time capsule name via AirPort Utility as suggested in the following link without success:
    http://positivelyglorious.com/software-media/snow-leopard-afp-access-the-volume- and-files-locally/
I've also seen that this was previously posted late last fall without any satisfactory resolution at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10526171
And none of the troubleshooting helpful hints in the following link are applicable or resulted in any resolution of my problem:
    http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html
With now two months of no backup, this is getting a bit ridiculous. I had hoped a OSX update would have helped but as of yet no glory.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help any of you might be able to provide!
    Thanks,
    Tim

Several volumes and folders have been shared and they are accessible within LAN. The problem is that I cannot even connect to the server, even though the connection has been established. Mac OS X always seems to think that it has already been connected and they are readily available but it's not listed under Network.
Looking at other topics, this seems to be a prevalent problem but I don't find any solution for this yet.

  • Use time capsule content on Apple TV

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV and I am looking at purchasing a Time Capsule to store all my movies, music and photo's on
Would I be able to watch my movies and listen to my music that would be saved to the Time Capsule? Or would I need to leave a computer turned on with iTunes running?
I think this would be a great feature but if iTunes has to be running on a computer this will be a great downfall unless it is something Apple plan to add to an update on the Apple TV, Same goes for my iPad too... I think it would be great if I could access content from the Time Capsule without having to use a computer to go through
If anyone has any thoughts or ideas please get back to me

Can't tell you about Time Capsule but it works with my Airport Extreme so my guess is that it will work with your Time Capsule too. The Apple TV can not access the files directy so you will have to access them with an iPhone or iPad and airplay them to your Apple TV.
The Airport Extreme I use does not support the DLNA standards which most external drives like LaCie Fule or DW My Cloud use. I found out it supports the SMB standard though. So a quick search on the App Store with SMB as the keyword showed up a few file managment apps and the first I tried worked!
It's called FileExplorer Free and can access files on your external drive attached to your Airport Extreme. There were more hits but since the first app I found worked I didn't bother to check out the other apps.
I tried FileExplorer with songs first and it worked. You can listen to your songs with your iPhone or iPad or Airplay them to your Airport Express and listen to them at your home audio system. I couldn't hear any loss of quality.
It also works with yorur movies. Just select the movie and watch it on your iDevice or Airplay it to your Apple TV. Works with HD movies as well with no problems. Only downside was that the Apple TV can only display .mp4 files. Even the movies bought on iTunes won't work with the app and the Apple TV. So I had to convert a few movies using the free converter HandBrake.
FileExplorer works with other types of files like photos or documenst too. Oh and as a bonus: The FileExplorer app can also access your library from the DropBox or Google Drive. Works with NAS drives as well. Looks like you need the paid version though for those extras.
In case your router supports DLNA search for a DLNA app like 8player.
So finally I can move my big movie collection to my external drive and still watch it without the need for the Mac or iTunes to run. Hope this helps you too.

  • Time capsule connectivity with Apple TV

i was wondering if my Apple TV can connect to content stored on my Time Capsule? Since my computer is not always on (unlike my Time Capsule), i cannot always access my stored music. But, if the Apple Tv could play music stored on my Time Capsule I'd always be able to play music through Apple TV.

While something is needed to send the movie from the capsule to the ATV, ii don't think it has to be iTunes own a computer. Most apps for the iPad and iPhone that can access other drives (and i assume a time capsule) like FileBrowser can both play movie files they find and AirPlay them to your Apple TV, which in my experience is quicker than booting my mac up, logging in and starting iTunes.

  • How to connect my new Time Capsule and new Apple TV to my Airport Extreme?

Hello, I just moved into a new apartment with one DSL outlet for internet from the kitchen. I set up an Airport Extreme in the kitchen without a problem. But I don't know how to set up the TIme Capsule in my home office and the Apple TV in my living room? Can someone help me? Thank you very much!
    Ray

I would try to connect the Extreme and the TC by ethernet for a more reliable and faster network. The secondary router must be in bridge mode, use Airport Utility "manual" to set that up.
Once your network is tested by yourself and reliable then power up ATV and use the remote to go to setting. Assuming you have a main computer with your itunes library setup and launched without sleeping then go to ATV settings/computers and point to your computer which has your library. ATV should give you a 5 digit code. Enter this in your itunes column on lefthand side, its self explanatory assuming in itunes preferences you have checked under ATV "look for ATV."

  • How to connect New Airport Time Capsule to non Apple asdl router

    Guys,
I have just purchased a new AirPort Time Capsule to back up the various macs in my house. I want to connect it to my wireless router which is a non apple product but the setup instructions are a little unclear to me.
My current router has simply a phone line connector and the power source coming into it. Do I simply connect an ethernet cable from the Airport to the Router. And if so, do I use the single Ethernet WAN port or one of the three Ethernet LAN ports on the rear of the airport? I assume the other end of the cable goes into any of the Ethernet slots on the back of my router which are marked 'Ethernet', or would it go into the socket marked 'Broadband WAN'?
Appreciate your help and if anyone is willing to speak on phone, I am very ahppy to call you in the next couple of hours! I am in the UK
    Best, Anthony

    thanks LaPastengue!
    Here is what ive got
What ATT router do you have? Exact make and model please.
        gateway 2wire from at&t
What TC do you have.. Latest AC tall one?? Or older one?? If older. .please tell us the model number. A1409 for example from the base mat.
yes I have the latest airport time capsule 2TB
Please tell us the full setup.. what is currently plugged into the main modem router??
The Main modem route has an ethernet cord plugged in the other side of the cord is plugged into the phone      jack
Do not plug the TC in first.. plug a single ethernet TC to the computer.. Hmm. so I need an additional ethenet cord to plug the TC into the computer? Leaving the router plugged in as is?
Open the airport utility and change the TC to bridge mode.

Update the TC and then plug it into the ATT modem and plug it into your computer or use the wireless and then tell us what happens.

  • Time Capsule Access Control and Extended Network Question

I have a Time Capsule where I have set up a wireless network access list…and extended the network using an Airport Express unit. The Airport Express unit also has settings for an Access Control list. Do these need to be the same as the those for the network from TC that it is extending…or does that happen automatically…and if not what on earth are they for?
Thanks for any help…this doesn't seem clear from what I've read/seen.

Unfortunately, they are not automatically applied to each base station in an extended network. You would have to manually enter the exact same list in each base station.

  • Time Capsule access is slow

I started this on a separate thread, 'cause my problem seems to differ a bit from most reported here.
After updating to Lion, I noticed that file transfers to the Time Capsule disk are much slower. I'm not talking about Time Machine backups as most people have noticed (these, believe it or not, have now gone back to normal speeds after the first slow backups), but manually transferring a file onto the disk. It takes me around 15 minutes to transfer a 100MB file - and the progress bar is highly irregular! These slow speeds happen both via Ethernet or via wifi...
Really not sure what my options could be on this one. It takes longer to transfer a file to my TC disk connected via Ethernet than to transfer it to another Mac on the same network via wifi! My other Macs (Snow Leopard machines) on the network can access the Time Capsule disk at normal speeds, even via wifi!
Thanks for any input on this!

    Hi Pedro,
I'm having the exact same issue as you, whilst transfering files using finder to the Time Capsule or a USB drive attached to the Time Capsule it used to be quick really quick specially via Ethernet connection, after upgrading to Lion the speed is appaling and it can come to a stand still. I have a 100gb iTunes collection on the disk that used to work fine with Snow Leopard now I can't access it. Same goes for the multiple iPhoto collections I have there.
I have tried to format USB drive and Time Capsule HD as well it did not help. Sometimes the transfers can take ages other times they just stop and Finder can be seen on activity monitor as being hanged.
To rule out a problem with the Time Capsule I connected the Mac at work to a windows network I logged in and presto! All network transfers were bad in terms of speed, really bad!
Decided to re-install Lion from scratch but alas the problem is still there.... appareltly Lion 10.7.1 is coming quicker than previously thought....

  • Getting videos from Time Capsule to my Apple TV

I just got a time capsule and would like to stream my videos to my Apple TV.  I know I need a device in the middle Mac, iPad, etc.  But do I need to add the videos to iTunes first or can I play them via a file manager type app?  They are all in the mp4 format already so I've got that going for me at least.   Also not sure if it helps but the vides were originally on a Windows based computer but I'm moving away from that except for a couple of exceptions that are work related.

As long as you can stream it to the ATV then you can use it.. so many applications can play video files and there is no need to add them to itunes.. but if you intend to use itunes as a main media application then it does make sense to add them to its library. The problem is the TC is not a great place really for the library to be stored.
ATV2 are very popular because you can still Jailbreak them to add a proper media player and then you don't need a device in the middle.
Or think outside the box.. a WD live TV can play media directly from the TC. Much easier.. no box in the middle.. you can sit at your TV and select. That is because ATV is a streamer not a true media player (unless you hack it of course and add XMBC to it). WDlive is a media player.

  • ITunes library on Time Capsule accessed by multiple accounts - Not working!

I moved my iTunes library from an external hard drive to my new Time Capsule (it is in the Data folder). I can access it fine from my user account, but my husband who has an account on the same MacBook Pro cannot. When he tries to access the Data folder it has a red circle with a white line indicating that he does not have access. I have used Airport Utility to change the file sharing (enable file sharing with time capsule password and airport disk guests access read and write). But still he has no access on his account. Please help! Thanks!

I have my iTunes library on a Time Capsule. I can access it from more than one user account without the problems described here. In fact, I can access it from more than one account simultaneously if more than one machine is on. I have not tried accessing from multiple accounts using Fast User Switching.
The only think of that might be different is the location of the files. The iTunes Music folder is on the Time Capsule but not inside a Data folder. Each user's iTunes Library files are stored in the usual location in their home directory on the machines. iTunes' preferences are set to point to the folder on the Time Capsule.
