Time Capsule Access  With Windows....

Hi,
I have a problem with my TC, i read every thread here and in other forums.
I spent Days and nights try to figure it out but with no luck at all.
I desperate here as i just paid $500 to buy the TC and isn't working.
The Problem:
1.I configured my TC many times with all possible configuration, the airport is working fine (LED always GREEN) but whenever i try to access the HDD it gives me: Username/Password Error, Netbios problem (Win 7) OR Semaphore timeout period expired (Win XP)...
2.When I restart the TC or the LinkSys It works one time perfectly but as soon as i change anything on TC or restart the computers cannot access again.
3. I used 3 Laptops to test, i even changed the router but with no luck.
4. Windows search and Minimum LAN Settings as suggested in the forums are changed but with no luck also.
Settings:
1. LinkSys (WAG120N)- Primary Router - connected to TC WAN port via Ethernet Cable.
2. TC Firmware 7.5.1 - Came 7.5 and updated to 7.5.1
3. Dynamic WAN IP, TC in Bridge mode, Static LAN IP (192.168.1.100)
4. TC Conf: Create Wireless Network
5. IP4 Conf is Manual, I put the router address 192.168.1.1 in the router address and in the DNS fields
Please someone help me ....
Tamer

I don't have a TC, but I saw that you haven't gotten a response yet so I figured I would try to help you out.
You could try a wired connection via ethernet. You could change the file system of the TC. You may be having issues because of the version of windows. Windows 7 may not work. You might want to take the password protection off the TC. You could change the type of password protection. If all else fails contact an apple expert or possibly take the TC back for a refund and get a wireless drive you know will work with windows.

  • How do I access time capsule data with windows 7

My computer hard drive crashed and was recently replaced and a fresh new install of Windows 7 was done.  Also my service provider has change and I no longer use the airport as my wireless router.  I have all my data on the time capsule however I am unable to access it.  I tried downloading airport utility for windows but its not detecting my time capsule.  I am connecting the time capsule to my computer using the usb cable.  Any suggestions?

I am connecting the time capsule to my computer using the usb cable.  Any suggestions?
That is not a valid method of connecting.. the TC is a network device.. you cannot use USB to it.
Plug it in by ethernet or use wireless.. either way it should be accessible by the airport utility.

  • Will the latest 2 TB Time Capsule work with Windows 7

I purchased a latest 2 TB Time Capsule
My computer Engineer says, it will not work with my Windows 7 PC.
He says I should purchase a Mac computer for using it
My aim is to have some important files, movies and music files in it and use it as
    my  iPad accessory.
    Kindly let me know

    Your computer engineer needs demoting..
The TC is SMB compliant when setup properly.
Press reset 10sec and redo the setup.
Download and install airport utility for windows. That will also install bonjour which helps things along.
Rename the TC and wireless names to short, no spaces pure alphanumeric characters.
    eg TC name.. TCgen4
    2.4ghz wireless name.. TC24ghz
5ghz wireless name.. TC5ghz (set the 5ghz name different on the advanced wireless page).
    Lock wireless to a/n - b/g
Lock wireless channels to 1, 6, or 11 as the only 3 non-overlapping channels.
On the disk page.. set the guest account to on with read and write permissions.. that makes life a bit easier. Obviously if security is a problem don't do it.. but TC is a home device.. and is so easy to hack into it is a joke.. so setting high security is seldom of value.
Make sure the workgroup is set correctly .. by default WORKGROUP.
Note the IP of the TC .. generally 10.0.1.1 and if it is running as the main router to the network, you can now open the TC via windows explorer by typing the ip or the TC name in the address bar thus.
\\TCgen4 or \\10.0.1.1 (Obviously if you use different name or IP then replace with those.)
To access the TC from ipad you need a file browser app.. just look it up.. the ipad does not actually natively work with the TC.. so ipad is actually more of an issue than windows.
Also note carefully .. there is no backup mechanism to save stuff on the TC.. it is a backup target not a NAS. It is made for Time Machine on a Mac not for storing files. They are also not exactly reliable. It is sealed.. there are no spare parts.. if it dies, apple will replace not fix it. And they tend to have a short life. If you trust your files to it.. one day they will all be gone.. make sure you back it up or only keep copies of files on it.

  • Time Capsule incompatibily with Windows XP

I have four computers connected to my home network: one MacBook, one Windows Vista, and two Windows XP. I am able to print to my XP LaserJet 1200 printer which is connected to my Time Capsule with both the MacBook and the Windows Vista computer BUT NOT with either of the Windows XP-SP2 computers.
On each of the Windows XP computers, I installed the latest version of Bonjour and then ran it. Bonjour successfully recognized the printer and installed its drivers. Then I tried to print from MS Word to this printer. MS Word correctly showed one of my printer options to be the H/P Printer attached to my Time Capsule, but when I selected it and went to print, the print job failed.
Thinking my problem might relate to my firewall, I first worked with the firewall vendor (Trend Micro) to ensure that my firewall settings should work with the Time Capsule, but I still could not print. Then I disabled the firewall and tried to run the printer, but still it would not work.
This leads me to question whether or not a Windows XP computer can actually print to a printer connected to the Time Capsule

How is the Lacie disk plugged into the Mac? If it is FW should be fine albeit a little slow.. but USB does not handle the load well.
Time Capsule is not really suitable for using as a Storage device.. Especially with that many clients.
The TC itself is an AFP shared disk.. so will not have issues with tiger.. (just there is no Time Machine). It can handle XP as it also offers SMB protocol. The TC will work on wired network. Although you can also set it up for wireless.
TC die a bit too easily.. and they have no backup mechanism.
I would be looking at Mini Server or a true NAS by QNAP or SYNOLOGY both of which are very Apple compatible. And use mirrored drives and have automatic backup.
Look in the Apple store as even apple sell 3rd party disk array devices.. They simply do not make anything themselves which fits the bill.

  • Time capsule connectivity with windows 7

    Hi,
I am facing problem to connect it to my Toshiba windows 7 64bit laptop. I installed the latest version of Airport and configured the wireless network that is working perfectly fine.
The main issue is window explorer doesn't show the time capsule all the time, if its not shown then i got to restart the computer and it comes up, some time it detects automatically in the explorer and some time doesn't. I am not able to figure out whats the exact problem.
If someone can help me out please.
    Thanks

Two main things must happen correctly:
-- Windows 7 must make a good Wi-Fi connection to the AirPort section of the Time Capsule.
-- Windows 7 driver must mount the drive.
Check your connection to be sure you have a Wi-Fi connection to AirPort. If not, delete any Wi-Fi connection and create a new one.
If the connection is working well to AirPort, see if the drive appears in Computer Management like this:
Right-click Start, choose, "Properties", choose the Start Menu tab, click the "Customize" button, under "System Administrative Tools", click the radio button for "Display on the All Programs menu". Then go to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. The Time Capsule should be one of the drive volume. In the column for "File System", it should show "HFS". In the column for "Status", it should show "Healthy". If not, troubleshoot the Windows 7 HFS driver or use Disk Utility in OS X to repair Time Machine.

  • Trouble finding the Time Capsule HD with Windows XP

This is the first network I have hooked my computer up to and would like help in getting access to the 1 TB hard drive using Windows XP. I have looked in the Airport Utility software for how to enable access and tried finding the network using XP.
I know at work once when I had trouble finding a network drive on a new machine they fed me a run command and then that drive would appear as an option.
Anyone able to step-by-step me through how to use this fine drive?

Do you also have a wireless connection to the TC from the same computer .. turn it off.
Go back to firmware 7.5.2 as it is far more stable.
After that the issue can just be windows 7 issues with large file transfers.
Turn off ipv6 in both the TC and windows machine. It can cause issues.
Do not use explorer to transfer the file.. use an alternative.. anything is better.. !!
In the end if it keeps failing.. look up network file copy fail windows 7.. google has about 4million hits.. it is impossible for me to know which one is the problem.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/234dd5bb -3ea9-480f-baef-b079a27f43cb#be752a92-8d14-42da-8085-377870a682f3
Search specifically as possible.. that will help as the issue does affect lots of different file systems.

  • Hi. I am using a time capsule for few PC s. I have made 5 different account to access time capsule. but in windows when i enter account name and password for one account, i cannot access other accounts, because windows saves username

Hi. I am using a time capsule for few PC s. I have made 5 different account to access time capsule. but in windows when I enter account name and password for one account, i cannot access other accounts, because windows saves username. how can i prevent this from happenning. I really need to access all my accounts and dont want it to save automaticlly.

Why have 5 accounts if you need to access all of them.. just have one account?
Sorry I cannot follow why you would even use the PC to control the Time Capsule. Apple have not kept the Windows version of the utility up to date.. so they keep making it harder and harder to run windows with apple routers.

  • HT1178 I have failed to Map the Airport Time Capsule to my windows 7 HP laptop as a mapped drive, error message is "access denied"

I have failed to Map the Airport time capsule to my windows 7 HP laptop, i followed all the installation steps and i get the error message "Access denied, you do not have permission to access this device, contact network administrator"

Did you install the airport utility for windows?
Is the windows computer set to home as network location.. it will not work if it is set to work or public.
Is the TC setup with all SMB type names, short no spaces and pure alphanumeric. No apostrophe.
Can you ping the TC from your computer? Open a command window and type ping and the tc name or its IP.
No response you will never be able to get connection .. it is usually firewall problem. Turn off firewall and internet security.
If it pings then simply type the IP directly into explorer.. \\TCIPaddress. (eg \\10.0.1.1 if the TC is at default)
That is usually the most foolproof method.

    4.  What happend when a visitor logs onto my existing wireless router?
I'm new to Macs (well a returning user having started with Mac Plus!!) and not very technical.  Any help / advice will be much appreciated.
    Ray

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

  • Time Capsule setup with 2 machines: iMac and Windows XP

    Long time reader, first-time poster.
OK, so I just got my new 1TB Time Capsule, set it up and am ready to start designing my backup strategy for home. I'd like to do a few things, and looking for some advice:
    1. I am currently using Time Machine to backup my iMac to an external 250MB drive. I want to switch over my Time Machine backups to the new Time Capsule (which I think I can handle), but then I want to format my other external drive and move my video files over to it to free up disk space on my iMac. Once I do that, how do I tell Time Machine to look for that external 250MB drive as well so that it backs up my video files? I see how to exclude files from the Time Machine backup process, but I'm not sure how to explicitly tell Time Machine to back up other drives outside the main HD.
    2. I also use a Windows XP machine for work and would like to configure Time Machine to look for that machine when I'm connected at home and back up certain files on the Time Capsule. Will it do this...or do I need to login to the Time Capsule from the Windows machine and do this manually over the network share (or use SyncToy or something). If this is the case, am I better off "partitioning" the Time Capsule drive so that Time Machine can use, let's say 750MB of the space and I keep 250MB in reserve for the WIndows Machine?
I haven't seen any postings like this in this forum, my apologies if someone else has already answered this...hope it makes sense.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

  • TS2706 I cannot connect to my airport (time capsule) from a Windows PC

Any information on how to connect to an aiport extreme (really the time capsule) from a Windows platform. Have no problem from our Mac's but cannot connect from a windows based platform.  I haven't been able to find any recent posts to help with this problem.

First off, Archon23, what you want to achieve is possible.  I have access to both my Time Capsule (TC) and the USB drive connected to it, from a Win. 7 and Win. XP machine.
Here is what I see from the Windows side of things:
From My Computer - TC USB Drive (Y)
From Windows HomeNet - Time Capsule:
Now getting there is the trick.
One caveat before proceeding:  I am not well versed in Windows Networks, Windows Sharing and Firewall settings so some of the following may not be elegant, may not be absolutely required, and may not be the best way of getting there.  But it is what I did to see both the TC drive and it's attached USB  drive on the Windows side of my network..
1.) First, I added Airport Utility to the Inbound rules of Win 7 Firewall
While poking around my Network Sharing and Firewall settings trying to figure this out, I got a Pop-up recommending I do that.  AND I did that. Oh, and while you are at it, make sure you have a Home network established.
2.) Next, on a hunch, I installed a USB Wi-Fi Adapter (under $20) to my Win PC, enabled that Wi-Fi connection and disabled my Ethernet connection.  I was getting no where on this matter with my Ethernet connection to a DSL Gateway.  But with a Wi-Fi connection to my AirPort Express Base Station, I made progress.
3.) Finally, while poking around my Network Sharing Center some more, one by one I started the various network device Setup Wizards in there, and Trouble Shooters, to find the elusive TC/USB devices in question...AND voila, it worked.   And it's stable, been this way for going on two weeks now.
    Good luck.

  • Weird: why would a network drive named "time-capsule-de" with an icon of an old-fashioned PC monitor appear on my home network?

Weird: why would a network drive with the name "time-capsule-de" and an icon of an old-fashioned PC monitor suddenly appear on my home network?
It happened shortly after I'd set up a new Time Capsule with our iMac and had transferred the configuration for it over from my old Time Capsule.
I'd just taken the old Time Capsule into another room and powered it up with my MacBook  to confirm that Airport Utility's wiping of its settings hadn't affected the old Time Machine backups still stored in it.
I was in the process of tinkering to see how I could use the old Time Capsule, when Airport Utility offered to "extend" my home network, so I tried that setting, and then got a warning that the old Time Capsule and its wifi networks were not yet secure or private.  While I was working to fix that, I noticed that in the Finder sidebar and in my Network settings, this mysterious "time-capsule-de" (with an odd old-fashioned PC monitor for an icon) had appeared.  I tried to click on it, but could not access it.  I also could not eject it.  I shut down my old Time Capsule and my MacBook.  When I turned the laptop back on, "time-capsule-de" was gone.
What do you all make of that?  Should I worry about the security of my home network?  I live in an apartment development, so there are more than a dozen stray wifi signals pouring in from other units.
I'd welcome any thoughts or suggestions.  Thanks!

What is the name of your old Time Capsule? Did you change the name to the new one?
It appears in Finder .. that is to be expected.. it is after all a network drive.. and it has PC symbol more than likely because you are using Mavericks which defaults to SMB network.. ie the computer thinks it is a windows computer.
There is nothing bad or sinister going on.. but you certainly need to ensure your own wireless network is secure..
    That is otherwise all fine.
If the TC shows up again, check that it is also in the airport utility and check its MAC address with the label on the bottom.. It will show in the Utility .. then you can compare and check you are reading the right thing.

  • Will the new time capsule back up Windows on an iMac running Parallels Desktop?

Will the new time capsule back up Windows on an iMac running Parallels Desktop?

Windows home version MSBackup, cannot backup to network drives.
That was a little bonus from Bill for those who didn't fork out for Pro or Ultimate.
Like people with home versions would never need to backup to network drives.. oh no.. never!!
You need to mount the hard disk in windows for it to work.
It will help a lot if you load the airport utility for windows into your windows OS.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547
Open windows explorer and type the network address of the TC.
\\TCname.local (where TCname is the correct network name of the TC).
The TC should have all names that are windows compatible.. ie
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule is just wrong. It is too long, it has spaces and it has apostrophe which is illegal.
A good name for the TC is TC
The default hard disk share name of data is fine. It should not be Time Capsule or anything again that is over long .. has spaces or is otherwise incompatible with windows.
A good name for the TC wifi is TCwifi
Then you can mount it \\TC
typing that directly into the address bar of windows explorer.
There are still issues with windows naturally and running in parallels I have no idea what other issues might come up.
Tell me if you have issues.. but you will need most likely to check the network.
Open a command window and ping the TC by name and by IP address. If IP address works just mount by IP.
\\10.0.1.1 for example .. and that is the default TC IP address when in router mode.
If you still cannot access the TC my recommendation is to use a USB drive and use that.. it is 10x easier and more reliable than mixing Mac and windows backups on the TC.

  • Time Capsule Hangs with USB Drive Connected after installing 10.5.6 update

The 10.5.6 update basically made my External USB Disk connected to the Time Capsule unusable. I've repaired the permissions as suggested in other posts - this did not fix the problem.
I was unable to perform any incremental backups initially after the 10.5.6 update, so I archived my sparsebundle and created a new one by doing a full fresh backup - which completed successfully. However, after the backup, I was unable to connect to the Time Capsule or the USB drive connected to the Time Capsule via Finder - when trying to connect, my computer hangs and I'm forced to do a hard restart of BOTH my computer AND the Time Capsule, if I just restart one or the other the problem persists. If I let the connection attempt run long enough I get an "Error Code: -8072" message and still have to do a hard restart. After the hard restart of my computer and Time Capsule I'm able to connect to the Time Capsule and the USB drive connected to Time Capsule just fine. However, once the Time Machine backup runs again - the same problem returns, I can no longer access the Time Capsule or the USB drive connected to Time Capsule via Finder and have to do a hard restart of BOTH my computer AND Time Capsule. This 10.5.6 update has been havoc, anyone have the same troubles or ideas for resolving this? Before updating to 10.5.6 my system was working flawlessly with Time Capsule and the connected USB drive.
UPDATE: I've just verified that this problem only occurs with my external LaCie Hard Drive connected to Time Capsule via USB. If I disconnect my LaCie Hard Drive from the Time Capsule and restart the Time Capsule everything works fine (backups, access to Time Capsule Disk from Finder). If I connect the LaCie Hard Drive via USB to the Time Capsule, I am able to access the LaCie Hard Drive in Finder UNTIL the next Time Machine backup. After the first Time Machine backup with the USB drive connected, I can no longer access the USB drive from Finder - Finder hangs and eventually produces "Error Code: -8072". If I disconnect the USB drive, then plug it back in - Finder no longer hangs and I can access the drive connected to Time Capsule until the next backup occurs.
Anybody have ANY ideas? This worked fine before the 10.5.6 update!

I am having a similar problem. Never tried it before installing 10.5.6, but have a Time Capsule (500GB) with a 1TB WD MyBook Essential Edition connected via USB. Hardware is password protected by authorized users of network and needs separate login to access. When I initially set it up, it worked fine (though too difficult to set up). The WD storage drive showed up in Finder window as a subset of the Time Capsule after clicking on the Time Capsule icon. I had an "-8072" error message yesterday that I ignored, but then the file contents of the WD storage drive took forever to be viewed in Finder (though video files could be accessed wirelessly). Today started having a problem... coincidentally?... after a Time Machine backup, and got the message: "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -8072)." Now I am unable to get into the WD drive when I click on "Connect As" on the Time Capsule icon in the Finder menu... I just get the -8072 error. I no longer even see the Time Capsule disk as a subset of the Time Capsule icon in the Finder Toolbar.
    What is going on???

  • Does time capsule work for windows

Will Time Capsule work on Windows computers?

Yes.  It's just a network drive to Windoze.  Once you find it browsing the network (assuming you named the worksapces riht, etc.), it will pop up on the list of network drives, and from there you can assign a drive letter to it and keep it auto-mounted.
However, with windoze 7 home, their new built-in 'backup' won't touch it, or use it in any way, because Micro$uck considers backup to network attached storage a 'premium feature' that mere home users shouldn't have access to.
However, any other backup software that isn't ******** will copy to the drive, if you assign a drive letter to it.  Including 'xcopy /h /e /r /d /i /c /k /y D:\mystuff Z:\backup', assuming you mounted the Time Capsule as 'Z'.
