Time Capsule after new hard drive installed.

I am new to this and consider myself a novice Mac person.
I just installed a 500gb Seagate hard drive and reinstalled my MAC OS on my Macbook.
I restored my old info onto the new hard-drive.
Do I need to reset the time capsule to do back-ups?
Will it automatically back-up wirelessly off the new hard-drive?
Should I reset the time capsule?

If you used Time Machine to restore your entire system, you shouldn't have to do anything special.
If not, you might have to set TM up again.
But do be aware that the first backup will be a full one, since everything on your new drive is +*new to that drive.+*
If there isn't enough room on your TC for a new, full backup, you might consider either erasing the TC's internal disk or deleting the sparse bundle. Otherwise, it will take Time Machine a very long time to make room.
I'd strongly advise you to connect to the TC via an Ethernet cable until the first backup is done; it will be much faster than WIFI.

I am having sporadic issues after new hard drive install and recovery using Time Machine. The same sluggish response, start up screen pixelating...If I reinstall Lion will it wipe out other applications? My HD was formatted and partitioned correctly, I have a late 2009 iMac.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • HT201250 How to restore laptop from time capsule after replacing hard drive

How do I reload all my programs and files from a time capsule after changing hard drive?  Also Apple store reloaded with Snow Leopard and not Lion.  Will that be a problem?  Thank you

Plug the external drive into a computer by usb or whatever box you have available..
When you say blank, is it correctly formatted.. we recommend HFS+ which is Mac OS Extended (jorrnaled)
Make sure you use GUID type disk setup not MBR if it came from PC world.
Copy the files via finder from TC to the external drive.

  • IMac taking long time to boot after new hard drive installed. Help?

I recently had a new hard drive installed on my iMac (running Snow Leopard). After the intall all was well, but I couldn't get my screensaver to work. Erroneously thinking it was missing, I reinstalled it and ended up with two screen saver folders in the system files. Now when I turn on the Mac, I get a white screen for several seconds (close to a minute) before the system shows me the Apple logo and then boots. I'm concerned about this. Did my copying the screen saver cause the problem? Should I reinstall my system software?  I was planning to upgrade to Mountain Lion anyway. Will that fix the problem? Any suggestions appreciated.

Restart in Safe Boot Mode (hold the left Shift key as soon as you restart your computer and hold it until the Apple logo appears). Once it gets to the desktop you can restart normally. Safe Mode  serves a number of purposes and one of them is to delete/trim temporary files that might be causing boot problems. There's no guarantee this will improve your startup time but it will do no harm and I have seen computers restart more quickly after a Safe Boot.

  • Restoring data after new hard drive installed

I just got my MacBook Pro laptop back from Best Buy after having a new hard drive installed. I did not have them restore my files, as I have backed up files on my external hard drive- WD My Passport for Mac. I never originally did anything to the external drive in terms of setting it up, partitioning it, or anything. I just plugged it into my laptop and assumed it was doing the backing up. Also, now that I have my laptop back, I wanted to see if the external hard drive did what I hoped it was doing- backing up my files. I have have now plugged My Passport in hoping to restore my laptop and have discovered that I can't open some files from my iWorks files, as it appears that I may now have to reinstall that app. I guess I was assuming this app would have been saved to My Passport. In order to fully restore my files myself (trying to be more computer independent) what should I do? I have been reading some of the other questions people have asked that seem to be related to what I'm trying to do and read about partitioning My Passport. Should I go in now and make the one partition under the Volume Scheme on My Passport and then switch the name and the partition scheme from Apple Partition Map to GUID Partition Table? The message I'm getting is telling me that partitioning this disk in this way will delete all the data on this disk, so I cancelled and reset everything back the way it was, concerned I would lose all my data. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can download iWorks from the App Store.  Since you purchased it previously it should be a free download.
Repartitioning or reformatting a disk will erase all the data on it.
If you are already testing your iWork files it sounds like you have restored or can restore the files.  Other than iWorks, what did not get restored?

  • Re-installing Linksys Connect on laptop after new hard drive installed

I have a E4200 router and had Connect loaded on my laptop. My hard drive crashed and needed replacement. I had no problem signing on to my WiFi once I got the new hard drive installed.
With the new hard drive, I now do not have Linksys Connect installed on my laptop. My question is: Can I re-install Connect with the router running perfectly well or will re-installing Connect with the router already up and running cause me problems?
    Thanks for any help.

  • How to restore music on computer after new hard drive installed?

had new hard drive installed and am not able to retrieve/find music that was backed up on my computer before new hard drive was installed.  Only music that was in the "cloud" was able to be retrieved. Any idea where it could be?
    Thanks!

Did you reinstalled iTunes ? It looks like you had a newer version of iTunes with the corresponding database, and now your iTunes seem to be an older version. If you are a little patient, you might easily fix this with iTunes 10.5 which should come out very very soon since iOS 5 has been annonced for tomorrow.

  • System restore on DV6 not working after new hard drive installed (Vista 32-bit)

    Hi there,
I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop (DV6 1210sa) and recently on start up I have been receiving a message saying that the hard drive is at imminent risk of failure. I therefore burned the restore CDs and bought a new hard drive: (A Toshiba 2.5 inch 80gb SATA hard drive 5400 RPM). The first part of the restore completes successfully then the HP screen appears after a restart and then goes to install windows, but before this begins I receive a message saying “Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer.” I then have to restart and get the same message. Is this drive somehow incompatible? Is there something I’m missing?
    Thanks in advance

Here are the factory specs for your HP Pavilion dv6-1210sa Entertainment Notebook Computer. Based on the specs, the original hard drive was 250GB. This could be a factor in your issue. It could also be that the drive is an advanced format (AF) drive. Please provide the model of the drive for our review.

  • Recovering playlists after new hard drive installed in computer

The computer repair store explained that all of my itune music was exported to my external hard drive before they installed an upgraded hard drive into my old computer. I was able to retrieve my songs from my external drive and put them into my "new" library after I downloaded itunes software onto my new hard drive. I seem to have LOST all of my playlists during the transfer to/from the external hard drive. How do I retrieve these playlists? Thanks for your help.

Did they also copy the iTunes Library.itl file as well as the iTunes music folder? This is the database of the songs in your library and the playlists and other info.
If they deleted the file, iTunes creates a new, empty copy when you re-install it, but any playlists are lost.
If you still have them on your iPod, then a 3rd party app may help.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.

  • Computer won't access or stay registered with third party accounts after new hard drive installed

Had a hard drive crash a a few months ago on iMac. Took it to an Apple-certified repair place, and they installed a new hard drive. (And I think updated the OS as well.)  iMac is working great, but have run into an odd issue with signing into accounts -- such as stores, banks, etc. Each time I try to sign in I need to reregister the computer or in some cases, I simply can't sign into the account at all, despite using the correct user name and password. Tried calling the third party accounts customer support and got "It's a Mac - we don't have anyone who does that." One other place said it "might have something to do with cookies."
Can anyone help out with this one? It is extremely annoying!
    Thanks!!

Thanks. This seems to have worked.
I ran the reinstall and then upgraded back to 10.6.8 via software update, and App Store and iTunes both work now.  I was able to log into my iTunes account and my old purchase of 10.7 was there.  I'm downloading it now as I type this.
I still have to deal with the fact that iLife and iWork and Xcode aren't working (and probably other things too), but the biggest hurdle seems to be crossed.  I'll deal with the other apps tomorrow.
    Thanks again!

  • Screen not working after new hard drive installed

    Hi,
Can anyone help me, I just replaced my hard drive on my 15" G4 Aluminum Power Book as it had crashed and died on me. When I finished installing the new hard drive, when switching it on the screen remains blank. Does anyone have any Ideas why and how to get it working again. The screen was working before the hard drive crash. Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Time machine back up problem after new hard drive install

After having my hard drive replaced I restored using time machine (Seagate backup drive)  There are 2 users of  this iMac.  After restoring I seem to have all my stuff back but the other user has nothing, no pics etc.  I assumed that time machine backed up everything on the computer.  Is it possible that it only backed up my data? If not, how do I restore the other users data.  Appreciate any help with this!

How did you restore the computer? If you used migrate it is important you prepared the computer correctly. If you already setup the user name that pre-existed on the old hard disk migrate will not work properly.. you cannot restore to the same username. So you might need to do the restore again.. (migrate but to a different location eg a USB drive and pick up the files from there).. TM should backup all users that previously were on the computer.. but how you restored will affect how it behaves now.

  • Crazy slow Macbook (2008) after new hard drive install

    Hi guys,
I did a clean install of Mountain Lion on a late 2008 aluminum macbook (not pro) in an effort to get it to speed up (my friend upgraded the hard drive (to 500gb WD) a long time ago but ended up getting a new computer since it was so slow). Everything seemed fine, I didn't install anything new, only copied over ~40g of movies and pictures. At some point it turned into the slowest computer I've ever used. Force quit took 5 minutes to show up, then another 5minutes to respond. I force shut it down, and it took 20minutes to get to the login screen, another 10 to respond to my pressing spacebar for the password, etc.
I finally got in and starting repairing permissions, and it said it was going to take 4 hours. Then after about 30 minutes it suddenly snapped back to normal; the estimated time dropped to 5min and the computer started responding normally to everything. I thought this meant it was fixed so I restarted but the problem was still there, although not quite as bad. And like before after a while of being crazy slow it just snapped into normal mode.
I made sure the HD was set as startup disc. Repaired permissions again. Verified drive. Reset SMC.Googled a lot. It seems all the problems like this are on 2009 Macbook Pros and have to do with an efi firmware update but this mac doesn't use the same firmwares. I'm not sure what else to try. I don't have the original hard drive. I might try to install windows with boot camp to see if that behaves normally so as to isolate it as a hardware or os x problem?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
