Time Capsule - After recent update

Would appreciate some guidance from the knowledgeable! I backup to Time Capsule and the backups seem to be working fine. However, there seem to be no less than five references to the device on my desktop, and I would like someone, kindly, to explain why there are so many:
1. There is "RR Time Capsule" (RR is where I live). There is a mini-icon of the Time Capsule next to it. This is under "Shared"
2. There is "rr-time-capsu" (i.e. lower case, truncated) with a picture of a screen... also under "Shared"
3. There is "Backup of JAA MBP" under "Devices".
4. There are two separate "RR Time Capsule" icons on the RHS of the Desktop (under Macintosh HD).
I should add that I back up wirelessly, using the "Device Password" security.
Any brief guidance would be great,
Thanks,
Fortinbras.

  • Airport Utility can't find my Time Capsule after Mavericks update

Hello - I recently updated my Mac Book Air to Mavericks 10.9.1, and I can no longer manage my AirPort Base Station or Extender from that machine.  This means I cannot use the Time Machine backups from that Base Station, or view the devices on the network at all.
Screen Shot from my Mac Book Air:
I am connected to "Kobayashi" which is the network created from the Time Capsule, so I can connect to the network it is broadcasting from this machine.
From my MacBook Pro using OS X (10.7.5) I can view the network and also perform Time Machine back-ups.  Here is a screen shot from that machine:
I have connected the MacBook Air both using the wireless connection and also an ethernet to Thunderbolt adapter.  I have done a hard reset on the Time Capsule, and also restored it to factory settings.
I have tried it with settings to allow and disallow IPv6 requests.
Any advice on additional trouble shooting/fixes I can try?
    Thanks
    Jon

Thank you. Your suggestion helped resolve my 'Backup Delayed' error for Time Capsule. I use an early 2009 iMac and OS 10.9.2 and my home network is created by this very Time Capsule. I also use the McAfee Internet Security for Mac package. This error cropped up after one of the latest OS updates to Mavericks.

Thanks!  I had a similar problem.  I had McAfee All Access - Internet Security installed and it was blocking the connection to the Time Capsule.
The firewall setting defaults to "Public" rather than "Home or Work".
Path to setting.  Open McAfee.  Preferences > Firewall - Select "Home or Work."
To resolve my issue I went to McAfee Internet Security Preferences and under the Firewall tab ---> Network Connections changed the 'Type' fom Public to Home or Work.

  • Problems with iTunes syncing iPhotos on Time Capsule after Mavericks update?

    Hello all,
I currently have all my Music/Movies/TV Shows/Photos stored on my Time Capsule and have been using iTunes and iPhoto to retreive files from it with no problems until I recently upgraded to Mavericks.
Couple of days ago, I updated to Mavericks, downloaded the latest version of iPhoto and iTunes. Yet once I've done so I could no longer sync photos to my iPhone, iPad or even see my photos on my Apple TV. I could however see the Music other Media. It took iTunes abnormally longer time to retrieve the data from the network and once it did and tried to sync them with the phone it just hung and crashed.
    I tried doing the following:
Deleting the iPod, Apple TV cache from the iPhoto library.
Fixed iPhoto Permissions and rebuilt the whole of the iPhoto library.
Deleted my iTunes library and rebuilt it from scratch.
All that did not work. The only thing that did however, was taking the photos from the Time Capsule and back to my computer. That seemed to fix things and I was able to make everything work again.
What I am asking is: Is anyone else having the same problem? Is this an OS bug that will be addressed? or is there anyway I could fix this on my own? I only own a Macbook Air and the 15GB of photos I have already take a huge chunk out of the 59GB I have available on my laptop. Thanks.

I have a new Time Capsule (the tall version), but no Mavericks yet (I have OSX 10.8.5) and latest iTunes and Time Capsule sw. I have pictures and iTunes library on the Time Capsule.
iTunes messes a lot with synching pictures and music.
I have tried to delete the picture cache on the Capsule, but that only helped once. Next time it looked over the pictures for a long time, but synched none. With music I get an error message that it's wrong format (it isn't, the file is fine, I can see it) - and since next time that song will/might come in, but some next song won't. Then it could gray out some music on iPad (running iOS 6.1.3), some times it actually plays grayed out music, some times it doesn't.
But on my Mac Mini (which runs iTunes, all year long), all is fine, so the music exists fine! Synching looks very broken to me! This happened when my wide Time Capule's disk broke and I had to recover the iTunes library from a backup.
I'd rather not move all of this onto the MacBook, as I want anyone to be able to synch and play music wouthot having to relate to some laptop.

  • Time Capsule after firmware update

I am using a MacBook 2GHz Intel Core Duo (not duo 2) device and a Time Capsule. I just installed the Airport Utility (5.4.1) update which then had me update the firmware on my TC. Since the update, the TC and the MacBook have restarted but now Airport Utility cannot find my TC. The TC has a solid amber light. Internet seems to work fine. I can even go into Time Machine and see my backups. But Airport Utility does not identify the Time Capsule and the light is Amber. Hooking up directly with an ethernet cable doesn't solve the problem. What's the deal?
    Thanks!

Usually it means there is some setting on th TC which is not right/optimum or has been left untouched (factory defaults).
Did you try doing a factory reset on your TC ? Did you update your Airport Utility on the client machine ?

  • After recent update to airport on iMac, the wifi connection is lost when it goes to sleep and requires turning off wifi and turning it on to reestablish contact.

After recent update to OS on iMac, communication to airport is lost when computer goes to sleep.  To reestablish connection, I need to turn wifi off then on.

    same problem here.
    i have a time capsule.
    symptoms:
    excessively searching for network
but more often than not, it cant find the correct netowrk that is correctly stored in keychain
if i try network assistant opened through safari not finding its page, then it can find the right network after i enter in the password again.  it connects. but only for a few seconds then it loses the connection again.
the only fool proof workaround for me is:
1/ shut down time capsule. restart time capsule.
2/ restart mac with airport turned off.
3/ after restart manually select the network from the wireless icon in the menu bar
airport utility is a complete waste of time
old airport utility is still better.

  • HT2693 My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back. Can I get the update out somehow? Thanks

My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back? Can I somehow undo the update? Thanks

    "UPAD lite?"
I expect that you mean some version of iPad.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Problems with Time Capsule after upgrade to 10.7.5 & firmware on Time Capsule

I got a software update to 10.7.5.   There was also a firmware update to Time capsule.  It won't work now.  I get the error message of (-1).  They tell me it's a Western Digital software driver.  I never had a western digital drive, but must have migrated the driver from an older computer.      I did have an Iomega drive on that computer, but no Western Digital.
Support has not been able to help me.    Any suggestions?

I've worked on this over the weekend with Apple Support.   I'm now on my fourth advisor, who is a tier 3 resource. Over the weekend I've downloaded the patch, erased the Time Capsule, reset it to factory settings, plugged it into ethernet, renamed the Time Capsule, the airport network & my computer and still don't have a functioning Time Capsule after a very 'Microsoft' weekend of waiting for several backups to bomb.
The only reason I'm on Lion is that I was a MobileMe customer and wanted to keep my email address.   I'm now thinking of getting a personal domain email, i.e. [email protected], dumping iCloud which really doesn't have any value to me, and in fact has less functionality that I need than MobileMe had, and reloading Snow Leopard.
That, or I can stop trying to fix Time Capsule, use third-party local drives until Apple gets around to fixing Lion.
Another 'feature' I've also discovered is that I can no longer take a Pages document and send a Mail message converting the document to PDF reliably.   It now works some of the time.
I've been one of 'the faithful' who's had Apple products since 1987 and loved them.   I stuck with Apple through the 'Soda Jerk' years and that european dude.   I'm hoping that Lion is some weird product anomaly and that Apple will improve it's product quality to where it used to be.    Also, not force people into product upgrades by not restricting features on new releases like Mountain Lion to machines less than 3 years old.   There really will not be any place else to go unless Google gets into hardware.

  • HT3728 When I reconnect my Time Capsule after a factory reset, the Airport Utility shows ther message"Unexpected error. Try again." I also get this if I redo the factory reset.

The Time Capsule is not providing a wireless connection.
When I reconnect my Time Capsule after a factory reset, the Airport Utility shows ther message"Unexpected error. Try again." I also get this if  I cancel the Airport Utility app and restart it. I performed the factory reset again, restarted the Airport Utility and received the same error. What are the steps to debug and fix the wireless problem?
My Time Capsule is connected to my FIOS router and to my Mac Mini. I am still able to connect to the Internet from the Mini via ethernet. It seems that the Time Capsule acts as a bridge for the ethernet connections between Internet to FIOS, FIOS to Time Capsule, and Time Capsule to Mac Mini.

Which model TC is this? The A1xxx number from the base please.
Try the setup in full isolation from the network.. so unplug the TC from the network.. and turn off wireless in the mini.. so you have mini--ethernet--lan port TC.. and nothing else.
    Do the factory reset.
Now check if TC comes up in airport utility..
If it fails, turn on ipv6 local link.. if you are using 6.3 utility this could be necessary.
Still fails, try loading the v5 utility.. you will need to plug the computer back into the FIOS to get internet. Then depending on OS.. Lion according to your profile.. you can just down the utility.. ML takes more steps.
    See below.
Do you have an iphone or ipad.. download the airport utility app and use those for the setup.. that can sometimes work better.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • After recent updates from Apple, Mail will not open.

After recent updates from Apple the mail icon on the bar will not open.  Only way to access mailis through Google, rather than the dock.

These fixes have helped others, depending on the situation.

A general repair to fix odd behaviors in Mail is  Mailbox > Rebuild.
    Try booting in Safe Mode.
Boot and when you hear the bong hold down the Shift key.
It will boot slowly.  Be patient.
              Login the the user account.
              Restart.
    Another fix:
    Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
    Click Go.
Move all "Envelope" files to your desktop.
Restart Mail and let it convert/reindex your mailboxes.
If this worked, Trash the Envelope files file that are on your desktop,
if not shut down Mail and put them back.
    Another fix:
    Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db
    Click Go.
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and try Mail.
    Another fix:
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
    Click Go.
Move all the Accounts.plist to your desktop.
    Restart Mail.
If this worked, Trash the Accounts.plist file that is on your desktop,
If not shut down Mail and put it back.
You can try restoring mail from a Time Machine backup.
Hold down the Option key and in the Finder Go > Library
    Enter Time Machine.
Select a date and time from when Mail was working.
    Restore Mail.

  • HT201250 How to restore laptop from time capsule after replacing hard drive

How do I reload all my programs and files from a time capsule after changing hard drive?  Also Apple store reloaded with Snow Leopard and not Lion.  Will that be a problem?  Thank you

Plug the external drive into a computer by usb or whatever box you have available..
When you say blank, is it correctly formatted.. we recommend HFS+ which is Mac OS Extended (jorrnaled)
Make sure you use GUID type disk setup not MBR if it came from PC world.
Copy the files via finder from TC to the external drive.

What "new system" did you reinstall?
Are you upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard?
Or did you reinstall Leopard?  If so, why and how (that may provide a clue)?
How is your Mac connected to the Time Capsule (use Ethernet for best results)?
