Time Capsule Airport Connection with Deutsche Telekom 300HS VDSL Modem

I just swithched my Deutsche Telekom connection to VDSL 50 but can no longer connect to the internet.  There are a couple of configurations I have tried:
a.    The Speedport 300 HS modem connected directly to the Time Capsule.
b.    As above, but with the Speedport W700V router in between the modem and Time Capsule.
The green light on the modem is illuminated to confirm the VDSL is available.
Could somebody please advise the correct settings in the Airport Utility to make either configuration above work?
Thanks,
Paul

This is the easiest one.. just use TC in bridge. You go to the airport utility, manual setup, select internet tab and under connection sharing.. off bridge mode.
a.    The Speedport 300 HS modem connected directly to the Time Capsule.
This is harder as it depends on the authentication system used by your VDSL..
The TC has limited options.. either DHCP.. so the vdsl has to pass the public IP as in half bridge type system.. or it has to be PPPoE authentication.. as that is the only other alternative offered.

  • Time Capsule airport slow with Intel 801.11n, fast on 801.11b/g

I've been running into this problem since I got my Time Capsule (Jan 09).
Both the Intel Macs (MacBook white old model and Imac Jan 09) have very low (50kbps) network connections over Airport. When connected with a cable speed is normal (2Mbps).
An old iBookG4 has no problem either when connected over Airport (also 2Mbps).
I've tried a fresh install of Leopard (problem was there before Leopard) but even a clean PC has the same problem.
    1) Is it possible to turn off the 801.11n on a Time Capsule?
    2) Any1 know what possibly to do about this?
    I've tried:
    - Deleting /library/preferences/system configuration
    - adding open DNS
    - deleting keys to airport in key manager
    - reinstalling computer
    - creating network locations (other than Automatic)
    - Cleaning and resetting Safari
    - Making sure there's a computer name in SystemPrefs/Sharing
    - Turning off IPv6
In other words, I'm at a loss.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    Hi William,
    Thanks.
Well this morning I thought I'd try something else.
I reconnected my old Base Station (the UFO model) and tried to connect to that (letting it run a separate network from the TC). And presto! Internet speed normal (2Mbps).
So I now integrated my old Base station into my WDS network, turned the wireless on the TC off (I know weird) and now everything works just fine (except of course the 802.11n).
I very much think this is a software problem as my notebook works fine on other networks, works fine on cable, my iMac (2009 model) has the same problems, but all the older Macs (old iMacG5 and iBookG4) have no problems. So something is wrong with the 802.11n. It seems to me that the chances that the TC and my MacBook AND my iMac all have hardware problems are really small, so I guess it has to do with software.
Perhaps the combination of 4 different Macs, an iPhone (2G) and two Windows PC on the same network causes a very special problem.
    Cheers!

  • Time Capsule/Airport "connection failed" indicator

Hello! I am having much trouble with my Time Capsule and Wifi/Airport connectivity. We reset the whole Time Capsule, and the PS3, ipods, and Ipad connect without a problem. Now the MAC desktop, and macbook are not connecting at all. Everytime I put in the password it says "connection failed" I can't figure it out at all. I'm not a computer genius either soo easy to follow steps would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Lovely Lion networking.. you didn't list the OS of the computers.. but I am guessing Lion.. awarded the vista gold standard networking award.. so expect nothing but trouble.
    1. If Lion.. you poor unfortunate.. download and install, 5.6 airport utility. You will get nowhere with Lion version.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Remember to open and use 5.6 from now on.. not 6.
    2. Reset the TC.. yet again sorry.. did you do a full factory reset or a reset.. ??
Do it properly this time.. power off the TC.. press in the reset gently until you feel it click .. then power on the TC still holding in reset until the front LED flashes rapidly. If you don't have the required 3 arms and hands to do this get someone to turn off the wall switch and on again.
    3. Open manual setup of the utility 5.6 of course (or 5.5 on SL). Give the TC a new name.. short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.. give a different name to 5ghz.. on the "Wireless Network Options" page.
You might need to fix up the name on the 2.4ghz again.
    4. Set wireless to fixed channels.. just pick one and try it.. this is much more important for 2.4ghz than 5ghz.. so out of 1, 6, 11 try each in turn.
    5. To test leave off security.. once you get a connection set security to wpa2 personal.. passkey should be 8-12 characters.. pure alphanumeric.. no spaces.
    6. If you keep having issues.. how long has the issue been happening?

  • Time Capsule drops connection with Windows 7 - KNOWN ISSUE

There are several sites posting solutions to this problem (example below).
Solution 1. - revert to older firmware of TC
Solution 2. - change local security policies
ONE PROBLEM THOUGH. I believe ONLY PROFESSIONAL versions of windows have the local policies acceptable. This means all of us using HOME editions are screwed.
    *Thread from:*
    *http://techsupport.foreverwarm.com/time-capsule-windows*
Windows Vista and Windows 7 cannot see Time Capsule drive
This might be your security settings. Open the Local Security Policy utility:
    %windir%\system32\secpol.msc /s
Navigate to Local Policies folder, Security Options view. Find “Network security: LAN Manager authentication level”. If it is set to “Send NTLMv2 response only” change it to “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.

ONE PROBLEM THOUGH. I believe ONLY PROFESSIONAL versions of windows have the local policies acceptable. This means all of us using HOME editions are screwed.
Home Edition users would have to perform a Registry edit as follows:
    1. Open registry editor (ref: Start > Search > Enter: regedit)
    2. Browse to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME = LmCompatibilityLevel & VALUE = 1
    4. Restart your PC and try the connection again...

  • Time capsule wifi connectivity with iPad, iPhone, and other?

I just purshaced a Time Capsule, and it is up and running. I can connect my Macbook Air wirelessly, but I am not able to connect with my Iphone neither Ipad. What would the problem be?

Same as what i just posted here. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4843683?tstart=0
I would suggest factory reset the TC if the above doesn't work and just try again.. the idevices can be more difficult to get running.

  • My time capsule doesnt work when its conneted direct cable modem, and it start working from netgear router

I just bought a Airport Time Capsule, time capsule is connected direct from wan to cable modem (it doesnt work). when i connect it to lan port 1, it start working. normal process i know is from cable modem to wan port. 2nd i notice, network is on bridge mode. so my question is how do i make it to work from modem to wan port.

What model is the modem? Is it a pure cable modem or a combined modem router?
This maybe important as the current model TC does have issues with some of the popular cable modems.. SB6121 or 6141 being often the ones complained about here.
If it is a pure cable modem (most will have just one ethernet port). Then power down the modem for 20min. This allows enough time for the MAC address of the first device connected to be lost at the ISP end so it is ready for a new router.
The TC must be in dhcp and nat mode.
Please factory reset the TC and start over.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
By default the TC is in router mode after a reset.
    Restart the modem.
The power up the TC and run through the setup utility.
The TC should then be accepted as the main router in the network.
If this fails check the WAN ip address. If it is 10.x.x.x or some other private IP you did not turn off the cable modem for long enough.. Try again only this time leave it off longer. (Some ISP it is just 5min.. some 15.. some will require 60min or overnight).

  • Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time caspule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport Express it worked!

Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time capsule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport express it worked, the single Ethernet port got the IP Parameters passed through!
My setup is a Vodafon Esaybox connected to ISP. Time Capsule is not able to extend the wlan of the easybox, neither airport express can do.
Only the option "connect to wlan" is succesful.
With airport express I was able to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the lan via ethernet to stream pictures, the TV set got an IP adress from the easybox.
With the time capsule the easybox dosn't find devices connected to the ethernet ports to submit IP adresses. The TV set get another IP adress (169.xxx.x.x.) in subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and I don not now where from.
My notebook is a MacBook pro.
    Any idea????
    Thank a lot in advance!
    Kind regards
    Ingo

Neverthe less, could there be the chance, that this feature could be implemnented with an firmware update?
That would appear to be a question for Apple to answer. You can make suggestions to Apple here:
Apple - AirPort Extreme - Feedback
If the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are configured to "extend a wireless network" they will provide additional wireless coverage....and...the Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup.
The "catch" here is that you must have an Apple router providing the network to be extended.

  • I can't get my airport time capsule to connect to the internet

I can't get my new airport time capsule to connect to the internet. It works fine with my linksys router

We cannot help with that amount of info..
What internet type and modem do you have? Exact modem make and model may help.
Is the linksys router also the modem? You do know there is no modem in the TC?
How is the Linksys authenticating if it is plugged into the modem??
If cable did you shut down the cable modem for at least 20min to change the router.. this is always required with cable system.. often the time is longer.. one hour or overnight even.

  • Can't copy with LaCie Network Attached Storage and Time Capsule/Airport

    Hi,
I bought a Time Capsule to replace my recently faulty modem/router Linksys AG241 and in preparation of buying my first mac in the next few months.
Right now the network is as follows:
    — 1 Linksys AM200 modem connected to the TC by ethernet and set to bridge mode
    — 2 windowsXP pcs attached by ethernet to the Time Capsule
    — 1 NAS (LaCie 2Big Network) attached by ethernet to the Time Capsule
Despite some initial problems configuring the modem in bridge mode, the present problem is the following:
Everytime I try to copy a file (it can be either an 4MB file or an 800MB one) I get this error window:
    — Cannot copy "Filename": the specified network name is no longer available
Even when copying a file from one Share of the disk to another! However, have no trouble copying 1KB file, for example.
I've been searching throughout the internet for some days now but couldn't find any answer.
This LaCie NAS External Disk is ethernet-only and can only be connected to a switch or a router. It worked before with my older modem/router. I changed the ethernet cable by another one and I get the same result.
The Time Capsule is cofigured to distribute IPs through DHCP. Right now, I even have enabled the DHCP reservations to assign a static IP to the NAS, and to the Pcs. STill the same result.
This happens on both pcs. Still haven't tried with a wireless device yet (I don't have one).
Can anyone help me solve this?

Ok. I've ran a test on a friend's network in order to clarify if the LaCie NAS was the hardware causing this issue.
Well, it isn't. The NAS worked fine on this other network setting - which uses a different router, modem and 2 different computers.
The test ocurred in Wireless G, though, not by Ethernet connection with the computers.
*So I guess the problem must be on my Time Capsule or Modem?*
    *Possibly a configuration issue.*
Does anyone has/had some problem connecting Ethernet External Disks on a Time Capsule/Airport that can share some Solution ?
    Please, Help!?

  • How do I set up my AirPort Time Capsule to connect wirelessly to my VisionNet modem?

I'm trying to get my AirPort Time Capsule to work with my landline phone DSL company. They supply all customers with a VisionNet modem/router. My problem is getting the Capsule to work wirelessly with the VisionNet modem. I want to put the Capsule on the other end of the house so I have internet connectivity all around my house. I have no idea how to do this. Is there anyone out there who is tech savvy enough to help me? Your help and response will be truly appreciated.

It will not work.. Apple routers cannot wirelessly extend other brands..
You must plug the TC into the modem router with ethernet.. and put it in bridge mode. You can then get another apple router, like an express or extreme (or even another TC) to extend its wireless.
This is fairly typical btw if you are thinking apple is being exclusivist.. well they are but the fact is wireless repeater (WDS is normal term), is not a standard and so every company does what is right in their own eyes.
WDS is not cross platform.. you always need to stick to the same brands.. or use universal wireless repeaters. But these are not recommended as they are generally unreliable and have other impacts on the network.
Run ethernet or use EOP (homeplug) adapters to connect the TC to the VisionNet modem.

  • Best configuration to extend wifi with Time Capsule & Airport Express

In my house I have a Fritzbox wifi router on the ground floor as my primary internet access.  I have an ethernet cable going to the 3rd floor study where the Fritzbox signal is relatively weak.  I purchased a Time Capsule as a backup device, but also wanted to extend the Fritzbox wifi network by plugging the ethernet cable in to the TC.  I was not successful in extending the network, so I had to create a new network.  When moving from downstairs to upstairs, my iphone keeps the connection to the (now weak) wifi network and I have to manually change to the (stronger) TC wifi network.
Additionally, I used to be able to successfully extend the downstairs wifi using my Airport Express (and also managed to have my speakers plugged into this for wireless usage), but do not want to additionally complicate my set-up.
So, what is the best way to connect the following equipment, ideally with the same network name, to ensure I always use the strongrst signal automatically:
Third floor:          iMac,    Macbook,   Time Capsule,  Airport Express
Ethernet cable from ground floor to 3rd floor
Ground floor:     Fritzbox wifi connected to internet

You must configure the Bridge Mode setting as the very last step before you Update the settings, otherwise the setting will change automatically.
In other words, you can change the setting to Bridge Mode, but if you make any other changes before you click Update, the Bridge Mode setting will not take effect.
Or, if you see any error messages about DHCP conflicts or Double NAT....the AirPort is not in Bridge Mode...even though you might think it is. Check the settings again.
will I still be able to set up an additional 5GHz network in parallel?
    Yes

  • Airport Express w/Time Capsule drops connection

I just integrated my new Time Capsule into our all-Mac network here a couple of days ago and its been fine for the most part but I've noticed that the existing airport express flashes amber for a few seconds every so often (usually once per hour or so) and disconnects everyone sharing files and connections. I have Leopard Server 10.5.2 running as well and this didn't seem to be happening before introducing Server to the mix (it was connected about 48 hours AFTER the time capsule) but the problem seems to lie with the Airport Express. Things are connected as follows:
    Cable modem --> Airport Extreme
Airport Extreme --> 2 ethernet connections to Macs, 1 ethernet connection to Time Capsule
Time Capsule --> 1 ethernet connection to Mac Mini running Leopard Server
I have bridge mode set up and a couple of portables connected to it as well as an Apple TV, all of these seem to be connecting and staying connected just fine - it's the two Mac's connected directly to the Airport Extreme that get hit - the light on the unit (AE) flashes amber for maybe 2-3 seconds and I lose connection to any other macs I was connected to - I can easily re-connect with no problems at all but its obviously kind of a pain when you're working on files from the server, etc. and everything more or less locks up while OS X loses these connections.
Does anyone have any insight into why this might be happening? I've never had any trouble with this prior to Time Capsule/Leopard Server, both of which I allowed to more or less set their own settings on the Airport Extreme figuring that it isn't too complex a set up or anything, it's not like we're a full on 20 client office here or something, just 5 total macs, no pc's, etc.
any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running into exactly the same problem. Configuration is the same as Jackoschild's. I get about an hour of good connection, then signal drops off and I get a rapid set of connects then disconnects. Very frustrating. I'm considering turning off the Airport on the Time Capsule and going with my 54g wireless built-in to the FIOS router it is attached to. Total of two iMacs running 10.5.2 (one 20" G5, one 24" iMac) and four PCs (Windows XP SP2) demonstrating the problem. I NEVER had a drop issue with the FIOS ActionTek wireless.
    Any solutions?

  • Extending Gen 1 Time Capsule Wireless network with Airport Express N

I am having difficulty setting up my new Airport Express w/ 802.11N (SKU# MB321LL/A) to extend the wireless network from my Time Capsule (SKU# MB276LL/A).
    My setup is as follows:
Time Capsule is connected to Cable modem with the following wireless settings:
Wireless mode -> Create a Wireless Network
Allow this network to be extended -> Checked
    Radio Mode ->802.11n (5Ghz N only)
    Wireless Security -> WPA2 Personal
The issue is the when I attempt to setup the AE to extend the network. I match the settings to the Time Capsule:
Wireless Mode -> Extend a Network
    Select the Time Capsule Network
    Allow wireless clients -> Checked
    Wireless Security -> WPA2 Personal
However after I reset the AE the LED glows Amber and the following problem is reported:
    +Wireless Network+
+This AirPort wireless device is set up to join a specific wireless network that can't be found. If you don't see the network that you want to join in the Network Name Pop-up menu, enter the network name and network password if necessary to try again.+
When I check the Airport->Wireless tab the settings were as before.
    Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Have you tried to position the AirPort Express close, say 10-15 feet, as a test to see if it will connect that way?
If so, then move it back another 10-15 feet, etc.
5 GHz signals do not travel well or penetrate surfaces very well, so my first thought was that the signal was not strong enough for the Express to pick it up where you had it located.

  • Having trouble getting Time Capsule/Airport to connect to new Comcast Internet service

Ok let first start off by saying that as good as I am with computers, Networking ***** and I suck even more at it. With that being said, I'm having a lot
Of trouble with my Time Capsule. At least the airport part of it anyways. We just got Comcast Internet hooked up this morning and the guy that came over said I har Internet on my main computer, I just need to redo the setup on my airport and I'll be good to go. So I thought cool that's simple enough to change it back to default settings and just go through the process of setting it up again....WRONG! I go through the setup and first of all I have no idea what the difference between "Bridge Mode" and the other option but since I never use bridge mode, I just went with the other option. However, once I complete the setup, I have the flashing amber colored light and airport is saying I have two problems one is about "Internet Connection" and the other is for "No DNS Servers". At this point, my wireless devices can see the wireless network I've setup but there's not actual Internet to do anything. However, my main compute that's connected by Ethernet to the modem can connect just fine. So I decided to do a power cycle on everything. All the connections are correct and so I turn it all back on and I still have the same problem with the airport but now my main computer can't connect to the Internet anymore. Needless to say I got frustrated and had to leave for work. So my question is how do I resolve this and get my Internet connect and airport up and running properly? If someone. Luke just break it down to me step by step to the level of a 10 year old that would really help as I mentioned before I'm really terrible when it comes to networking. Any help is appreciated!

If you are not already using AirPort Utility 5.6 download it here: AirPort Utility 5.6.
Power down the modem, the Time Capsule, and disconnect everything connected to them. Let them both rest for a moment or two.
Using an Ethernet patch cable, connect the Time Capsule's WAN port to the modem's Ethernet port. Connect both of them to power, modem first. Give them both a moment or two to wake up.
Open AirPort Utility 5.6 so that my screenshot below will resemble what you have.
Select your Time Capsule in AirPort Utility and select "Manual Setup".
Make yours look like the following screenshot:
The other options, such as TCP/IP, your wireless network name and password, ought to be self-explanatory but click through them and ask about anything that is not obvious to you. The important settings are in the above screenshot - that "Connect Using" is set to "Ethernet", and that "Connection Sharing" is set to "Share a public IP address".
Under the TCP/IP, Configure IPv4 should be set to "Using DHCP". Other settings should resemble the following but many parameters are up to you:
Click Update, resolve any errors that it may report, and let the Time Capsule reset.
Whatever you do don't disconnect the Time Capsule from the modem. Most modems will refuse to talk to anything other than the device it finds connected to its Ethernet port when it wakes up, so disconnecting it from the Time Capsule and connecting it to your computer for the purpose of replying here will confuse things.
That is pretty much it, but if you are still unsucessful, "hard reset" the Time Capsule - using a toothpick or functional equivalent, depress its tiny reset switch continuously, about a second or so, long enough for the LED to flash rapidly. That will reset the Time Capsule to its factory default condition. When you do this, the Time Capsule creates an open wireless network named "Apple Network xxxxxx" which exists for the sole purpose of configuring the Time Capsule. You must explicitly connect to this network to configure it. In AirPort utility, select the Time Capsule, and just answer the questions. When you are finished, the network "Apple Network xxxxxx" will cease to exist, so you must connect to the network you just created.
I make frequent use of toothpicks to reset AirPorts because I invariably mess up some setting, so if you find yourself doing this too then you're probably making normal progress.

  • Guest network feature of Time Capsule/Airport Extreme in conflict with DNS on OS X Server?

Hi, I want use the guest network feature of Time Capsule/Airport Extreme which requires an external DNS server but my OS X Server is the dns server...Can I configure server and airport with an external dns without messing up my OS server?
    Thx Ron

If you want to use the guest network while also using your server for DNS - you will need to do the following:  It's a bit painful - but it works.
On your Airport Device (Airport Extreme or Time Capsule) - in the Internet tab you will need to do one of the following:
    1)  Leave the DNS Servers Blank - which they will default to the DNS servers provided by your ISP.
    2)  Actually enter your ISP's DNS servers.
    3)  Enter Open DNS servers (I use 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220).
The DNS servers specified in the airport device must be internet routable addresses (if you are going to use the guest network functionality) - and cannot refer to private ip address (e.g. 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, etc).
Here is the painful part...on all of the devices (Macs, PCs, phones, ipads - that will be used on your "private" network 10.0.1.x - you will need to provide static DNS setting (but still allow DHCP to assign the devices IP address).  You will specify 10.0.1.13 as primary DNS and 208.267.222.222 (or your ISP's primary DNS IP).
One you do this - your devices that you permanently use on your local network - will still use your server for DNS - and the external DNS - should your DNS server happen to be down.
Anyone visiting your house - will connect to your guest network - and automatically be DHCP assigned a guest IP address - and the external DNS servers that you specified in the Airport Extreme device.
This has been working great for me.  I suspect that the guest network functionality is flawed in the Airport Extreme/Express and Time Capsule.  Since I do not have another router that provides a guest network - I cannot say whether this issues is limited to the Airport devices - or whether this workaround would need to be done - regardless of which brand of router is providing the guest network.
In a nutshell - your household permanent devices will have to specify static DNS servers - but your guests will connect seamlessly without having to change and risk messing up any of their device settings.
