Time capsule and Bell internet hub

Just changed services from Rogers to Bell, but can not seem to connect my time capsule or airport extreme.  How should I set up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Do a full factory reset of the TC.. this is important when you change ISP.
Power down the router.. hold in the reset with a bent paperclip, toothpick etc.. power up the TC without releasing the reset.. keep holding for about 10sec until the front led flashes rapidly. Then do a new setup.
If you are supplied with a modem router.. setup the TC / AEBS in bridge mode.
If you have a pure modem, then the TC or AEBS has to be in router mode.. whichever is plugged directly to the modem.
If it is a cable service and pure modem, you must turn off the modem as well. This is required because the single IP that is given has already been captured by whatever computer or device was connected to it.
Sometimes 5min is enough.. sometimes 15min.. or more is needed.. it depends on the service and provider.

  • Time Capsule and Bell Fibe

I just purchased a TIme Capsule yesterday but haven't been able to get it to connected. After spending almost an hour on the phone with Apple Support, she told me that the TC may be faulty and to exchange it for a new one. However, after reading things here, I believe that I just have to connect it in "bridge" mode. The problem is that I have no idea what "bridge" mode is and apparently neither did the person I spoke to because this didn't come up during our conversation.
Basically what is happening is when I plug the TC into the fibe modem and try to connect, it can't find the TC. We did a factory reset and and suddenly the TC appears but it can't connect. I get a flashing amber light and can't go any further.
Can anyone walk me through the steps?
    Thanks!
    Tania

There are a number of issues with fibre connections that can crop up. Sometimes the TC will not work in this setup. It is not faulty.. it is just not suitable.
But everything depends on what hardware you already have and what it does.
If the fibre to ethernet converter is just that, then the TC has to be a router. But if the converter also includes a router then the TC has to be bridged.
Before you purchased the TC, how was the fibre connected to your network.. or did you have just one computer plugged into it??
If you are currently running a single computer plugged into the fibre.. please open the network preferences and check the actual values ..
I would like you to post them.. a copy and paste or a screen shot.
I would then like you to plug in the TC by ethernet to WAN port..
And I want you to do a few screenshots of the WAN (internet interface) so I can see what IP you are getting along with gateway and dns address.
Failure to get the correct address and it won't work. Bridge will not work if the fibre is just a single IP connection.
It might help if you give the exact model of any hardware you are supplied by Bell.. look on the bottom labels for the exact model and version info.. please supply that. Do you get Phone and TV via this box??

  • Time Capsule and Wifi internet radios

So I bought the Time Capsule to replace by old USRobotics router and am so far relatively impressed, apart from the problems in backing up that are filling up this topic. Who said Apple "just works", I wonder?
However I have had to keep my router going, because both of my Wifi internet radios will not work with the Time Capsule, whether it is set to 802.11n only, or even g/n. Only the signal from the b/g router will work.
Has anyone got a Wifi internet radio to work with a Time Capsule alone, and if so, how?

Bought the time capsule in Oct 2013.  I have a Sagemcom 2864 modem from Bell but used through Teksavvy.  The 5 ghz has been flaky until I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 I think.  I had a closer look at it and it appears that the wifi is ok.  I was thrown off by the wifi symbol being all animated in the menu bar.  I was able to ping the time capsule via wifi.  All the status lights on the modem looked ok.  Next time it happens, I'll see if I can get some more details.  Do you know if there's anyway to get some logs from the airport utility?

  • Apple Time Capsule and Comcast Internet.. a Relationship from HE77

    Hello,
I cannot believe I have waited this long to ask for help from you guys, but here I am pleading for advice..
I have Comcast Internet, and Direct TV television service.  I've been experiencing major issues with both but I think that I've realized the issue.  My wifi signal with Comcast All in One or the seperate modem.router they tried SUCKED!!! But I'm pretty sure that the issue is the fact that I have 2 digital baby monitors that run on a 2.4ghz frequency, which is exactly the frequency that Comcast wifi runs on.
The reason why I brought up the Direct TV thing is bc I've had them at my house several times because my Whole Home Media Center simply would not stay online, and when it did, its speeds were so slow downloading on demand content.  But, everything in my house is slow, not just Direct Tv.  This week the Direct Tv people hardwired their equipment directly to the Arris All in One Comcast router so that shoule alleviate that issue.
My thoughts are this. I know that my Apple Time Capsule can put off 2.4 as well as 5ghz frequency.  So my questions are:
Can i have both the all in one AND the time capsule putting off their own wifi signals.. The all in one using their standard 2.4ghz for some things, and the Time Capsule putting of the 5.0ghz for others.. If so, how do I do this and not have any issues such as double NAT, and things like that?
Should I just put the All in One in Bridge mode, and simply use the 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz from the Time Capsule to address this issue?  How do i do that? Also, would having the direct tv equipment plugged into one of the 4 ehternet ports on the All in One still allow it to pull internet from it, or should I just plug that into the time capsule as well?
Are there devices that for whatever reason will NOT be able to log onto the 5ghz frequency?
I keep hearing about bandwith this, and bandwith that.. I know I have a lot of devices pulling internet at once including, 5 direct tv recievers that somehow always need to be online, 3 iphones, 2 ipads, imac, apple tv, smart tv, laptop, xbox 360 (which really isnt ever even plugged in)  Is there any reason to be fearful that the bandwith the Time Capsule puts out may not be able to handle this load any better or worse than the all in one?
I will but lunch and/or dinner for anyone that can help me get this working, i swear!!

But I'm pretty sure that the issue is the fact that I have 2 digital baby monitors that run on a 2.4ghz frequency, which is exactly the frequency that Comcast wifi runs on.
That will sure as anything mess up your wifi.
This week the Direct Tv people hardwired their equipment directly to the Arris All in One Comcast router so that shoule alleviate that issue.
Ah.. hard wired.. that is the solution. Do not use wireless for media streaming.. it is destined to fail.
Can i have both the all in one AND the time capsule putting off their own wifi signals.. The all in one using their standard 2.4ghz for some things, and the Time Capsule putting of the 5.0ghz for others.. If so, how do I do this and not have any issues such as double NAT, and things like that?
You cannot turn off 2.4ghz in the TC.. but that is unlikely to be an issue.
    Bridge the TC.
Setup wireless to create a wireless network.. Use the same SSID as the Comcast all in one. Same security.. but use a different channel.. how you will do that with baby monitors x 2 I am not sure.. you may have to accept some overlap. There are only three non-overlapping channels, 1, 6, 11 .. pick the least signal one where you setup the TC.
Should I just put the All in One in Bridge mode
No you cannot do that. You can turn the wireless off though.
Also, would having the direct tv equipment plugged into one of the 4 ehternet ports on the All in One still allow it to pull internet from it, or should I just plug that into the time capsule as well?
That is why the unit cannot be bridged.. you will mess up the TV.
Are there devices that for whatever reason will NOT be able to log onto the 5ghz frequency?
Most old stuff.. only the most recent iphone and ipad are 5ghz. Most stuff requires 2.4ghz.
And there is an issue.. range of the 5ghz is poor.. you need high power wireless devices.. and none of the apple routers rate above mediocre. Even high power ones suffer dropoffs.
To be honest it is not going to fix the basic problem.. you probably do not have enough internet bandwidth share.. but the more devices connected the lower time slice each one gets .. that isn't the main trouble though.. it is the efficiency also drops off. Apple routers have no QoS.. this is important.. some things need real time connections.. streaming media, voip, etc.
Other stuff doesn't .. uploading or downloading email or updates. It is important that a choked system has a way of getting the best out of limited resources.. and that is QoS Quality of Service.
Look at a better router.. I recommend Asus RT-N66U as having far superior range and handling QoS.
You should also do a proper site survey to see how much wireless signal you really have.. but again you run into trouble.. the baby monitors are not going to show up unless they are wifi based, which is unlikely.
Sorry but until you can finish with the baby stuff you are going to have to live with non-ideal world.

  • Anyone else have time capsule and BT home hub 3 problems

I have a a home home hub 3 with Bt infinity. I have a time capsule connected to it by ethernet. both are creating wireless networks but whenever the time capsule is on I can not connect to the HH wireless network. Any suggestions?

Setup the TC wireless to manual settings so you can reinforce the HH3 and not compete with it.
    So
    1. The TC should be in bridge. Leave the HH to do routing duties.
    2. Go to the TC wireless setup page.
Change the wireless name to match the HH3.
Change the security of the TC to match the HH3 or change the HH3 to match the TC.. only WPA2 AES = WPA2 Personal should be used.
    Change to the same passkey.
    3. The only difference you need between the two boxes is wireless channel. I recommend you set this manually.
In the TC use 11 or 13 in UK is also fine for 2.4ghz. Use 6 or 1 in the HH. And make sure it is set for 20mhz bandwidth not 40mhz. I do not have a HH to look at but all wireless in the presence of another WAP should automatically drop back to 20mhz.. but some device allow an override.. do not use or force 40mhz wireless.. it will cause issues.
Depending on the utility you use you may also have to set a channel for 5ghz in the TC.. use one of the lower channels for example 36-40.
    4. You can also change the name of the 5ghz channel to force devices to use it.. if you are close by the 5ghz in the TC offers much higher speeds.
Does it make sense? I can give screenshots but I am running Snow Leopard on this computer and it is different in v6 utility on Lion or ML.
If you do use Lion you can install the v5 utility easily..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
For some manual setups it is much easier to use.

  • Time capsule and express internet settings

    Hi there,
    I have the following setup:
    1. cable modem
    2. connects to airport express (as it's beside my amp for airtunes etc) which also is the main station for my wifi
    3. time capsule in office
So the airport express provides the internet access and time capsule is just for backups. Only thing is that the backups take AGES. I have figured out the reason for this is the data travels to main server (AE) then to the TC, before coming back and forth between the laptop. So it's taking a long time.
My question is thus: can I set up the main server to be the TC, and still use the internet connection from the AE?
    Many thanks,
    Saqib.

    Saqib wrote:
AE: internet connection sharing: off (bridge mode)
Those settings look reasonable, but the "bridge mode" setting suggests that your cable modem is actually a router.  What is its brand and model number?
The MBP varies in location but never more than a few feet from one or t'other station (TC/AE) - transmit rate varies from 100ish and above (from the details that appear when you option-click the wifi icon).
From that option-click display you can determine which base station the MBP is connecting to.  Compare the "BSSID" value to the "AirPort ID" values of your base stations.  If you can get the MBP to connect directly to the Time Capsule backups might be faster.
What value of "RSSI" (signal strength) do you see at the MBP?

  • Time Capsule and an Internet connection

I was getting an error with TC with regards to backing it up.  I tried to reset the TC back to factory settings I bought this TC from Apple in 2009,  Once I did that, I now no-longer have access to the Internet with the TC. It has a sold yellow light and my computer dosn't recognize it.  can someone please help?????  I was able to hook up a non TC router and it worked fine with no trouble.  I am not sure if loading Maverick had any issues with this?

    Hi, Under Water.
You should configure the Express to "Join a wireless network" or to "Extend a wireless network". (Either one will work.)
Connect your computer to your Express via Ethernet and open AirPort Utility. Press "Manual Setup" and authenticate if necessary.
Go to the "Base Station" tab. Give the Express a name and password.
Go to the "Wireless" tab. Set the Wireless mode to "Join a wireless network" or "Extend a wireless network." Enter the name of the wireless network created by your Time Capsule (or select it from the list). Check the box that says "Allow Ethernet clients" (if you're joining) or "Allow Wireless Clients" (if you're extending).
Provide the appropriate security mode and password for the Time Capsule's network.
Press "Update" and allow your Express to restart.
Then you can plug the solar system into the Express's Ethernet port.

  • Time Capsule and BT Home Hub compatibility

    Hi
I would be very grateful for your help.
I have a BT Home Hub (brand new) connected via ethernet cable to my Time Capsule (gen 4).  I get the combination to work together OK (without switching off the BT Home Hub wireless), and I have the option of using the BT Home Hub wireless network too.  I notice that the Time Capsule network is much less consistent than the direct BT Home Hub one.  I also see that the BT Home Hub seems to have a much better coverage of the rooms in our house thean the Time Capsule network.
Is there some sort of conflict going on here?  Should I permanently switch off the wireless router function on the BT Home Hub?
If I do straight speed checks - most of the time they both seem to perform similarly, yet every now and then - perhaps 3x weekly, the Time Capsule one just goes very slow or stops all together.
I was hoping the Time Capsule would give the best possible coverage around the house, so if that issue is not linked to the BT Home Hub compatibility issue, then are there different settings I should be trying on the Time Capsule via Air utility?
For completeness sake I also notice that the hourly back up sometimes fails as my iMac does not find the Time Casule every hour, and sometimes very small updates can take longer thah I would expect.  Perhaps this is linked to the above, but perhaps not.
Anyway, I would be most grateful for your advice.
    Best wishes,
    David

Hmmm.. TC should auto select channel to not interfere with the Home Hub.. but the home hub might also be set to auto.. this means you have auto-auto.. and no controller who dictates the terms. Set fixed wireless channels.. and keep them separated as far as possible from each other. Even using EOP or long ethernet even better to run the TC in some wireless dark area of the house.
In my case I have a Thomson G wireless adsl modem.. and it beats the TC wireless hands down at the other end of the house.. simple fact is, the TC is no wireless power house.. regardless of Apple's so called improvements to the antennas and power output. The design is just not good for wireless.
So for 2.4ghz there are only 3 non-overlapping channels, 1, 6, 11 (13 in UK).. I recommend you set the BT to 1 and the TC to 11 or 13.
Use wireless names in the TC that are short no spaces pure alphanumeric.. and use wpa2 Personal security.
That is about the best you can do.. I like to force 5ghz to a different name.. so I can select it and it is much faster if you are in range.. but 5ghz has poor range.

  • Time Capsule and the internet

I am having some problems with my internet speed and I used speedtest.net as recommended by some other users. My connectivity is @ 1.0 mb/s. I am wondering if this is something with my set up or with my ISP. I have verizon dsl. Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions, cwinicky!
Just a few quick questions and suggestions.
Do you know what your speed should be from your ISP? There are usually different packages available at different price points.
Can you connect your computer directly to your modem and check the speed that way? If you are checking ethernet connectivity, you could compare the speeds when hooked up directly and also through the Time Capsule to see if they are about the same. If they are, and you are not getting the speed that you should, contact your ISP and have them do a line test.
As a double check, you could also try another speed test. Something like http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ should do the trick.
    Post back on your results.

  • Time Capsule and BT Home Hub

    Hi
Has anyone had any luck getting a Time Capsule to work with a BT Home Hub? (Reading this forum I wonder if any one has a TC running at all!)
One minute the AirPort Utility picks it up the next it does not locate it. Sometimes the TC will not pick up IP address. At one point I managed to change the name, the TC appeared in Finder, but then I could not connect to the drive. Then the AirPort Utility would not locate it.
The majority of times I am getting "An error occurred when attempting to update TC".
In summary a series of random issues that I cannot make head nor tail of at the stage. Turning it off and back on seems to help, but at no stage has the AP Util managed to completely sucesfully set up the TC.
    Mark

I had an initial rejection message like you connecting to BT Hub, Mark.
I used the setup to add to my existing network (BT Hub) and the amber light on the front of the capsule just kept flashing, looking for a network. This was done wirelessly
So, I reset the capsule to factory settings by pressing the reset button on the back for 5 seconds amber flashes fast. I then restarted my computer and restarted the BT Hub
I then ran airport utility again. (No ethernet cable is connected, but running wirelessly) When the Time capsule appears in the left sidebar of airport utility and the IP address is picked up in the main window, I then clicked on continue. After naming the capsule and giving it a password, I then clicked on continue. When I got to the next window, I choose the top one 'I have a wireless network and want to add Time Capsule or replace an existing device on my network'
I then clicked continue and in the next window I chose the second option 'I want Time capsule to wirelessly join my current network'
In the next following window, your BT Hb will show in the first field, click on wireless security (I chose (WEP 40 BIT preset) and enter your BT Hub wireless key and repeat it into the next field.
Clicking next will give a summary of what the settings will be updated too.
When the final window appears, close it and wait for the steady green light appears at the frot of the capsule. Be patient and it will work.
If you go by the settings similar to mine you should be good to go.

  • Time capsule keeps losing internet connection

I seem to keep losing the internet connection, and this seems to be when Time Capsule is doing backups. It is fine most of the time, it seems to have an IP address, but I can't connect to the internet. This seems to happen when it is doing backups. Have I got the time capsule set up correctly? I am using it with BT Home Hub which is also a wireless router, and I have set up Time Capsule to join the same wireless network. Most of the time it works fine. It also works fine when connected via ethernet, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the Time Capsule, maybe just the way it's set up. Or does it always behave like that? Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3, I don't have 10.6.4 yet though am just about to install it, so it can't just be related to 10.6.4.
This morning when I booted up, I had lost my desktop background picture, the clock was wrong and my keychains seemed to be messed up. Nothing else seemed to be wrong, but I restored a backup anyway, and repaired the keychains. I don't know whether this had anything to do with Time Capsule or not, but I have my suspicions. At the moment I have connected the Mac to the Time Capsule by ethernet, and that seems to be OK, but I'd like to be able to put the Time Capsule in another room, to extend the range of the wireless network. I did wonder if there could be interference between Time Capsule and the Home Hub, as they are quite close to each other.
I do not seem to have any problems when using my Macbook Pro.

  • Problem with Time Capsule recognizing three USB hub hard drives at one time

I attached three external drives to my Time Capsule using a USB hub, but it only wants to recognize one drive at a time. I know that all three work individually with Time Capsule and the USB hub, because when I turn off the two other drives the third appears. I can turn these on and off sequentially, and all are individually recognized, but only one at a time. Does anyone know what I would need to do to get Time Capsule to recognize all three drives running simultaneously on the network? I turned Time Capsule on and off, to see if it would then recognize the three drives, but it didn't help. Could the hub be the problem, that it is underpowered? I do have an AC adapter on it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same issue and would love to know if you resolved it with a powered USB hub. Otherwise, i may just return to one external hard drive--though I will miss the double-backup idea. Anyone try the hub change?

So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)

  • Time Capsule drops wifi/internet connection and flashes amber

Time Capsule drops wifi/internet connection and flashes amber.  I've tried unplugging it and my modem but it continues to do this every so often.  The time capsule is out in the open, so I don't think it's a heat issue.  It's running firmware 7.7.3.  Anyone else having this issue?  Any suggestions on how to fix it?  It's driving me crazy!

  • I recently purchased a time capsule and thought I would put my itunes on it as an external drive as my mac book air only has 120gb. However I can not be connected to the internet and the TC at the same time in order to download the files to the TC. Help?

I recently purchased a Time Capsule and put my iTunes library on there so that I wasn't using up my hard drive space. Only 120gb on my mac book air. However when I download songs from iTunes I can not be connected wirelessly to the internet at the same time. Can I hard wire my TC in to my mac so that I can treat the TC as just an external hard drive? Thanks

Initially, you asked if you can hardwire your MBA to the TC. The answer is yes, by using the optional USB Ethernet adapter that Apple provides. However, in order for your MBA to access the TC's internal or USB-attached HDD, it would need to establish a network connection to it. This would be true of any NAS device on an Ethernet network. Therein, lies the problem. Your MBA cannot connect to two networks simultaneously.
One option then, would be to have two separate iTunes Media folders; one on the MBA & the other on the TC. This way, you can download the music to your MBA when connected to the Internet at the AirPort lounge, and then use iTunes Consolidate Library feature to transfer the audio files to the TC's iTunes Media Folder location. A great program to help maintain multiple iTunes Librarys and/or Media Folders, that you may want to consider, is PowerTunes.
