Time Capsule and Windows XP connectivity problems

I installed Windows XP on my Mac Book and use Boot Camp to run a Windows program I need for work. It worked fine until I updated to Time Capsule 802.11n. Now I am not able to connect to my network with the Windows portion. I believe I have SP2 installed. Any suggestions? The Mac side works fine.

Can you please let us know what you've attempted so far and it has failed? Have you already installed Airport Utility on your XP computer?

  • Time Capsule and Vista (HD connection problem)

Hi, I've read all posts with lots of people trying to use TC and Vista, tried all suggestions, but still stuck.
The "router" part is working great, I have TC connected to my desktop (Vista Ultimate 32bits) wired, and wireless working fine.
But for some reason I can't connect to TC HD. it says I have to enable NETBIOS. I already did this (properties on tcp/ip), but no luck.
    any other suggestion?
    tks.

Hi All, just to contribute here my solution for this.
after making sure the computer browser services was up, I opened the networking and sharing center, clicked on the "view status" of the connection, and then on the "properties" in the new window that opened.
Then I added 3 things there (was not there by default, don't know)
+ Link Layer Topolgy Discover Mapper I/O Driver
+ Link Layer Topology Discover Responder
    + Client for Microsoft Networks
After that, worked like a charm. Now I'm trying to use TC with Account Access, w/o success (if I put disk password goes fine).
    hope this helps

  • Firmware 7.4.1 Time Capsule and Windows

    Hi
I know that firmware 7.4.1 has caused problems for people using Time Capsules with Windows PCs:
    http://theappleblog.com/2009/03/06/a...ate-available/
I know that this problem affects the original TCs as I actually have an original TC and I had the problem with firmware 7.4.1 (fixed by downgrading to 7.3.2).
Does anyone know if the problem with 7.4.1 only affects the older TCs or does it affect the new updated TCs (released earlier this year) as well?
I want to buy another TC, but not if it has the 7.4.1 problem and not if it can't be downgraded to 7.3.2.
    Thanks

i have been using an AEB w/ an attached USB drive to backup wirelessly using Time Machine for several months. I've had no problems restoring several files wirelessly from the TM backup. No problems at all so far. I have a 2nd hard drive attached to the AEB which serves iTunes and movies wirelessly. No problems there either.
The only issue is that accessing these drives is slow even when the mac is connected to the AEB via ethernet (the TC exhibits the same issue). If you aren't upset by that speed, or don't mind jacking the drive straight into you mac when you need to make big transfers, it's a perfectly livable system. I was certainly hoping that the new AEB and TC would feature upgraded server ability and loosen up that bottleneck but they apparently have not. c'est la vie
As far as an official comment from apple is concerned, it's doubtful that you'll ever get that. And if you did get it, what good would it do? Do you think they'd pay you a huge settlement if they 'officially supported' this backup method and you wound up with a corrupted backup that caused data loss? It either works or it doesn't and personally I give more credence to the experience of other users and my own cautious trial than I do to any official statement Apple makes on the subject.

  • Time Capsule and Windows 7 clear approach

    Hello all,
I tried now for one month to install the Time Capsule (with Airport and Bonjour software) with Windows 7 WIRED.
First I had to turn on the Net-Bios, which is difficult to find. I did.
The Time Capsule was visible in the Windows File system, now it is gone. The green button is burning. It's 4th generation.
The help-desk of Apple Holland can not help me and they say that it will not work with Windows because the Windows file system is different than the Mac system. Then they say that I have to make the same IP adres on the Time Capsule and the Windows file system, which is impossible as they said also.
I bought the Macbook Air. I want to put all my files from the Windows PC to the Time Capsule in order, after that,  to reach the MacBook Air with the Time Capsule. The shop told me that this is possible. I tried some advises from the web, but seems to be difficult for me. The help-desK isn't able to help me anymore.
Please who can help with a clear step-by-step approch?

doesnt work for me, its a real dealbreaker.
I've tried manually adding and editing the lmcompatability registry key, mapping via explorer, mapping via net use, browsing via unc, tried with airport config software and without, mapped via IP and mapped via hostname.
The thing is just flakey and doesnt work.
    I've tried firmware 7.4, 7.41 and 7.42. As you say, 7.3 is no-go with a dualband.
The problem for me isn't mapping the drive, but using it once it's mapped. files and folders fail to copy, stuff doesn't always delete, drive sometimes becomes unavailable. The TC is solid otherwise.
There has to be another registry setting to change somewhere though hopefully. Either that or they've tightened the security within win7 to the point of no return for some legacy stuff.

  • Time capsule and Windows Back Up Centre

    Hi There
I have just bought a new Time capsule and it has set up properly, except for one small issue.
I can see the TC in Explorer as a network drive but it can not be seen in the back up centre, has any one got any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    cheers in advance
    Graham

map the drive thru explore first, enable the option to reconnect at logon and provide the TC id and pasword.
then use the windows backup menu and select your newly maped drive as the backup media.

  • Time Capsule and Windows Vista network

    Hi everyone,
    Just looking for some advice/feedback.
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and love it. Now considering buying a Time Capsule - 3 reasons - extra storage space, allow printing from all computers, and ease of backup with Time Machine.
I currently have a DLink wireless modem/router that is wired to a Windows Vista PC, a windows laptop and the new Mac.
My question is: How will the Time Capsule fit in with everything? I am guessing that the DLink will remain wired to the PC, and the Time Capsule will be plugged into the DLink. Will I gain extra speed with the Time Capsule and how do I allow it to take over the wireless network?
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
    "When I try
to connect it sees the new network I set up,
but won't connect to the internet."
Are you saying that the Vista PC will connect to the wireless network, but can't get an internet connection, or it can see the wireless network, but can't connect?
If it cannot connect to the wireless network, is there an error message displayed? If so, what does the message say?

  • Time Capsule and Windows Vista

Hi there i have a Macbook Pro and my flat mate has windows vista on his note book.
So i am thinking of getting Time capsule 500gb to back up my Mac pro and use it for the internet (going to replace my old wireless modem with time capsule) and my flat mate just wants to connect to the internet thats all no backing up files or anything like that.
Will it be easy to set up his vista to connect to the internet? does he need apple software or anything like that?
And will he get the same internet speeds as before?
Sorry i am new to Time Capsule don't know much about it just don't want to wast money
    Thanks for your help

Yes, it should all work fine and connecting to the Time Capsule will be just like connecting to any other wireless router. There is no additional applications needed.

  • I recently bought a new iMac as well as a wireless time capsule and have it connected how can I use this external drive as the location to store all my files for iTunes, or is this even possible?

New iMac user here, I recently bought a new iMac and Time capsule and have the whole network up and running now. I have connected another external HD to the time capsule as well and have a total of 3 TB of storage connected wireless to my new iMac. My question is can I use this location as the default location for iTunes?  I doubt I am gonna run out of room considering the iMac has 1 TB of storage already, but I'd prefer to keep my movies and music off the Mac to keep it running smoothly. If this is possibly, I'd like to do this with iPhoto as well.

I would advise against placing your iTunes library on a Time Capsule.
The Time Capsule is designed as a backup device and not for wireless streaming of video.
Before you do anything more, can I suggest you put into place a reliable, redundant backup strategy.
Unless you are prepared to risk loss of your iTunes library due to a hard drive failure, I would not put iTunes on the Time Capsule.
Leave your iTunes library on your iMac until such time as your internal drive is full. Backup to Time Capsule using Time Machine and create a clone of your internal iMac HD to your external drive.
That's my 2 cents worth. Others may have a different opinion.

  • Airport Time Capsule and Airport Extreme connection

I have replaced an Airport Extreme in my study upstairs by a brand new Airport Time Capsule 2T. It is the Airport Time Capsule that is connected to the Internet. The Airport Extreme has been moved downstairs and connected to the Airport Time Capsule by an Ethernet cable (run in a ventilation channel).
First, I configured the new Airport Time Capsule alone (without the Extreme). Then, I connected the Extreme and, unfortunately, configured it as a new network. Now, I would like to undo the last step and have, as they should be. both the Time Capsule and the Extreme in the same network.
The Airport Utility does not like it. Obviously, I am not doing things correctly.
    1. Should I reset both the Time Capsule and the Extreme, in what order and how ?
    2. How to delete unwanted networks from the list ?
    Regards - Kris

You do not have to change the TC.. leave it as the standard setup.. as long as it is right.
Reset the AE to factory and try again.. or just manually edit it.
Click on the AE in the airport utility then click on edit.
Go to the network tab and make sure it is set to bridge.
Go to the wireless tab.. and setup .. create a wireless network.. NOT EXTEND.
Use identical Wireless Name to the TC.
Use identical Security setting (WPA2 Personal is only valid one really).. and same password as the TC.
Then update your AE.. it is now part of the same network with the same wireless name..

  • Time Capsule with Apple TV - Connectivity problem

I excanged my Airport Extreme to a Time Capsule. I copied all settings of the Air port Extreme as suggested by the installation process of the time capsule. Now my Apple TV does not work with eathernet anymore. Apple TV shows that it has a connection but the port on time capsule where the cable is connected to Apple TV is not illuminating. What is the problem?

You need to tell us a bit more..
But the whole network should be..
Modem---TC in router mode .. wireless and wired clients.
    or
Modem/Router----TC in bridge mode... wireless and wired clients.
    How was the Airport setup?
I recommend you redo the setup and not use the setup from the airport. Start again and run the setup so you have the TC in the right mode.
If you use Lion.. download and install the 5.6 airport utility (just ignore v6.. the two can live side by side).. 5.6 is a real utility.. a tool. .v6 is a toy.

  • Time Capsule and Unexpected Double NAT problem

I have had a Time Capsule setup and working fine for about 2 weeks. The Time Capsule is the only router on my network and connects to a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem which as far as I know has no router capabilities and serves up the IP address that it gets from Comcast.
All of a sudden this morning I get a "Double NAT" error message in my Airport Utility window. I cannot figure out any reason for this to happen, since the Motorola Surfboard doesn't act as a router at all.
What is going on? Is this a bug in the Airport Utility software or what?

I'm having this same issue. Resets, hard resets, and unplugging the ISP antenna did not resolve it. I was using an old AEBS G as my DHCP server, with the TC patched into it in bridge mode.
Today, I decided I wanted the TC to be the DHCP part of the network, and the AEBS G as the bridged AP, but it just won't work no matter what I do. The TC is now getting the WAN from my ISP's wireless antenna, which I'm pretty sure has no NAT capabilities. My ISP does block ports, though, and maybe that's what's confusing the TC.
Connectivity is all good, everything works, I just have this Double NAT error that I can't get rid of.
    Any ideas?

  • Time capsule and windows xp

I run windows xp on boot camp, becouse I have a management software which works only on PCs.
If I would buy a time capsule, when leopard does a back-up, are the files in window backed-up or have I to do it manually?
I don't mean the time machine feature, but only the wireless back-up one.
Time capsule works as an acces point, too. Can I connect a network printer to it?

The app in Leopard that does backups is called Time Machine. And, NO, TM will not back up your XP partition.
I don't mean the time machine feature, but only the wireless back-up one.
I don't know what back up feature you are talking about if it's NOT TM.
Time capsule works as an acces point, too. Can I connect a network printer to it?
Yes, if it's supported. The Time Capsule USB port can also accommodate a supported USB printer (printing only) and HDD.

  • Time Capsule and windows 7

Just installed a new time capsule. I have a MacBook and my wife has a pc. I am able to get on fine. I downloaded airport utility for windows 7 from Apple support for her, but when I open network preferences I can only get on the guest site from the pc. Question: I named the time capsule network the same as I had on our old wireless network. When I open network preference in the pc it shows the name of that network, but says the settings have changed and can't log on. If I change the name of the network would that make the difference?
    Thanks for any feedback.

Login using airport utility.. manual setup.. go to airport.. wireless tab.. change the names.. update.
There is no need to reset at all.. do it from the Mac. But use 5.6 utility if you are using Lion.
It can also help btw to lock the channels and make 5ghz a different name to 2.4ghz.

  • Time Capsule and Windows 7 Back Up and Restore

    Hello,
I would like to know i can manage to save my backup of windows 7 on the Time Capsule using the back and restore tools ?
I am using on my time capsule the file sharing with the disk password, but it doesnt seems to work.
    Can u please help ?
    Thx !

Open the guest access and give read and write permissions.
Also make sure you actually give the WORKGROUP name in the WORKGROUP area, correct to the win7 workgroup..
If you still cannot access the TC try turning off the firewall in win7.. you may also need to ensure that win7 is recognised as in home, ie local network, not work or public.
Open a command window and ping the TC to make sure you have network access.
In windows explorer type \\ipaddressofTC\ into the address bar.. that being its IP address. You can also try netbios name.
If none of that works post again but it should.. on latest firmware on the TC??
You need to use windows backup which is near useless.. I recommend you download a utility that can do a proper disk image.. there are plenty around.

  • Time Capsule and Ethernet cable connection

    A simple question (I hope).
I currently have a 1TB Time Capsule working as my network wireless router and my Time Machine backup device. The TC is connected wirelessly to my iMac.
I would now like to connect the iMac to TC with an Ethernet cable in order to sped up my regular backups. (Heck, maybe it will give me a boost in Internet connection rates, too?)
My question is this - will simply plugging an Ethernet cable into my iMac and my TC work, meaning, will I have to drill down and change settings? Or will plugging in an Ethernet cable mess up a system that has for months worked flawlessly?
    Thanks for the help!

    Matthew Palm wrote:
So you are saying I should push Ethernet to the top?
Yes. That's how I have it. If Ethernet is first, it's my understanding that OS X will try to connect with it first. If an Ethernet connection isn't available, OS X will work its way down the list until it finds a connection. I know it doesn't stop at that point, as I routinely have simultaneous connections with Ethernet and AirPort. The AirPort signal where my MacBook normally is is weak, so I depend on the Ethernet connection. I'm guessing that the order of connection items may play some part in prioritizing the use of network connections.
I definitely DO want to keep my Airport connection (i.e., wireless network), as I do indeed need wireless internet in my home for my iPhone, iPad, and my AirTunes streaming (which is sent to my Airport Express).
What I've recommended won't affect any of that.
