Time capsule blinking yellow but working?

It's blinking yellow, but I'm online and the latest backup was an hour ago.  What goes on?

Find out as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the amber dot
A window will appear with a message to explain why the amber light is blinking.....along with suggestions to remedy the "issue"

  • Time Capsule blinks yellow, when I go to airport utility to set up, it Says This apple wi-fi bse station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to internet.  My internet works, but I can't back up anything. What do I do??

Worked fine for about a couple of weeks after my son -law installed the time capsule.  I can access the Internet both from my wife's I phone and from my desktop.  I think that I need to get the DNS server numbers and put them in the two blanks; but where do I get them?  Thanks, Jim

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • Time capsule blinking yellow

My time capsule will not stop blinking yellow

It can mean anything.. you need to look at your airport utility and find what the list of items is under the yellow dot.. or in 5.6 utility under status.

  • After upgrading to Lion Time Capsule solid yellow

    Hi
After upgrading to lion I am experiencing a lot of problems with time caspule
    1. backup fail: it starts and than fails (error message and yellow warning triangle)
    2. unable to connect to TC disk, neither from airport utility, nor from Finder
    3. Airport Utility hangs while trying to manually modify configuration (rainbow weel).
After a lot of reboot,  reset, disk rename, time capsule reconfiguration etc etc AND TC DISK REINITIALIZATION (ALLA BACKUP LOST!)
now backup seems to work and I can browse files in Time Machine
    BUT
Time Capsule is a steady YELLOW and Airport utility says there is an error on disk (The disk is not working)
    Can somebody help me.
This all happened after Lion installation. Not a problem before
    Franco

    Hi William
The disk is the internal Time Capsule Disk. It's a 1Tb model.
My iMac is localized in Italian
So I write here the Italian message and a possible translation
The first error message I get opening Airport Utility is:
Utility Airport ha trovato una Time Capsule 802.11n (2.a generazione) che segnala problemi
(AirPort Utility has found a Time Capsule 802.11n (2nd generation), which indicates problems)
If I press on "Continue" I enter a page that says
"Problema 1 di 1: Il disco Time Capsule non funziona"
(Problem 1 of 1: The Time Capsule Disk doesn't work)
"Si è verificato un problema con il Disco Time Capsule. Collega un disco rigido USB al tuo disco Time Capsule e utilizza il pannello Dischi di Utility Airport per archiviare i dati ed eseguire il backup."
(There was a problem with the Time Capsule disk. Connect a USB hard drive to your Time Capsule disk and use Disk Utility Airport panel to store data and run the backup.)
While if I go to the manual settings and I select the disk,
on the disk data info I have
    Stato S.M.A.R.T.: Non funziona
    (S.M.A.R.T status: Not working)
As I said before, apart from that problem, everything else (time machine, backups and file recovery) looks working good (until proven otherwise eh eh)
I don't know if to worry about the disk but I find suspicious that everything just started after Lion installation.
I called the call center and they just said to return the TC for disk repair (have to pay, warranty expired).
I told them about Lion installation fact and they said it looks like a coincidence but actually it is likely that after a disk initialization or a big amount of data writing the TC disk may break (WHAT ?!?)  and the Apple guy even suggested me to buy an external disk that is less expensive and give less problem than a TC !!!!
(I can agree on that now, but I was surprised to hear that from them )
Thank you very much for any help.
    I hope this info helps

  • When I switch my time capsule to 5.0ghz mode the range of my wireless network drops significantly.  Near the Time Capsule my Macbook Pro works fine, in my bedroom I have almost no signal.  In mixed mode it works fine.  Any ideas on how to get 5.0 working?

When I switch my time capsule to 5.0ghz mode the range of my wireless network drops significantly.  Near the Time Capsule my Macbook Pro works fine, in my bedroom I have almost no signal.  In mixed mode it works fine both placed.  Any ideas on how to get 5.0 working?  I thought 5.0Ghz was supposed to have a wider range.  Do I need to change a setting on the Macbook Pro?
    Thanks, W

I'm not sure if you understand that 5 GHz has some upsides, but also some very significant downsides.
The upside is that the 5 GHz signal will allow faster speeds.
The downside is that you must always give up something in order to gain something else.Unfortunately, the marketing hype about 5 GHz does not go into very many details about this.
In the case of 5 GHz, the 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so they do not travel as far or penetrate any obstructions like walls or ceilings nearly as well as 2.4 GHz signals. In many cases, in order to get good 5 Ghz performance, you literally have to have almost a line-of-sight relationship between your computer and the wireless router.
If you have a new dual band router, which broadcasts both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simutaneously, your Mac will connect to the best signal quality automatically depending on its location in relation to the router. In the same room, without any obstructions, it will connec to 5 GHz. But, take the laptop down the hall a few rooms and around the corner and the Mac will connect to the 2.4 GHz signal because at that location, the 2.4 GHz signal is not only stronger, it is also faster.

  • Time capsule now does not work with Lion just installed.

Just downloaded Lion to Mac Air. Time capsule now does not work. Where is the problem?

Restart the TC.. lion is stupid.. it forgets what it is connected to with alarming frequency ... like someone suffering dementia.
If it continues to have issues, plug the TC directly to the lion computer by ethernet (if not already) and try again. Change the wireless to manual in airport utility and change the wireless name.. to force a new configuration. Once setup you can just use wireless.
In the end you may need to reset the TC.. just hold in the reset button for about 10sec. It should then become available.. a reset does not do anything to data on the hard drive but you might need to restore any passwords.

  • I live in europe. Does a time-capsule bought in usa work in europe?

I live in europe. Does a time-capsule bought in usa work in europe?

Yes, but you cannot select your country.. so some channels work that shouldn't and other channels that should don't.. there are major differences not so much at 2.4ghz but at 5ghz.. which is more important for AC routers.
    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
So the US one is now and always set to US wireless regime.

  • Time Capsule with HH3 but want to still use HH3 Wi...

    Hi folks,
I'm thinking about getting an Apple Airport Time Capsule (2013 version) but need to check compatability with my HH3 first.
I've seen other posts here regarding TC and HH3 but not specifically for the configuration I want.
I only want to use the TC for backup and do NOT want to use it as a Wifi router.
I want to continue to use my HH3 for my Wifi network (mostly because I dont want to reconfigure all (10) of my computers with a new Wifi password).
I'm thinking the best way to set this up would be to switch OFF the wifi on the TC and connect it directly to the HH3 using an ethernet cable. In that setup would computers connected to the HH3 via Wifi then be able to see the TC?
Or is there a better configuration?

    Hi.
I have a Time Capsule and have it configured in a similar fashion with my HH4. I still use Airport Utility 5.6 and in the Internet section if you set the Internet Connection Sharing to "Off (Bridge Mode)" it will disable DHCP and any device you connect to it will get its IP address from the HH. It will be visible to any other device on the network. As you say by switching off Wireless Mode you can continue using your HH for this, although the wireless capabilities of the time capsule can come in handy. I have used it to set up a "guest" network and I have also used it in WDS mode to use an Airport Express to extend my network to a non wireless device (PVR) rather than using homeplugs.
    Hope this helps.
    Andy.

  • I've got an apple 3TB time capsule.  It was working fine until we moved to a new house.  The day the ISP showed up to upgrade my speed it stopped working.  Now will not pick up signal.  What happened what do I do?

What signal is it picking up? Are you joining wireless network? If so don't.. it is really poor way to run things.
Is it connected to a cable modem? Full router or just a modem type?
    Try a reset?
Plug in via ethernet.. turn off everything.. wait 5min then restart cable modem.. if that doesn't work, give it a longer off cycle.. 15min or overnight.
    We need more info.

  • AE blinking yellow but is working

My AirPort Express is only connected to my Stereo setup in the living room.
After receiving a software update it started blinking yellow and wouldn't work.
I try using the Setup Assistant and get this message:
There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again.
AirPort works fine with my AP Extreme base station which I use to download movies so it appeared there was nothing wrong with the card. I did a hard reset of the AP Express and downloaded the latest firmware.I still can't use the setup assistant and the yellow light is still blinking, but the Express now works fine.
Any ideas what's going on? Why the erroneous messages and blinking yellow when the unit appears to be working fine?

All this may seem obvious to techies, but it's a big deal to a senior type person.
After much anguish and hand wringing I have my Express showing along with my Extreme in Airport utility in all their green dotted glory. Somehow the firmware update request for 732 that magically appeared (and that I quickly downloaded) managed to change my AirPort network settings. These are some notes I made for myself for reference in the event of future mishaps.
Make sure AirPort is connected by checking in NETWORK - NETWORK STATUS
If not connected click on AIRPORT in drop down menu
If on AUTOMATIC change to PREFERRED NETWORKS
Select name of desired network from list
Open AirPort Utility - see base station(s)on left (if not, do a factory reset)
    Click on Manual setup
When asked which base station do you want to connect to, click on Extreme xxxxxx
When asked for password type in Extreme wireless network password-xxxxxxxx
follow any other instructions and click on UPDATE. It will take quite a while to connect to Express - just WAIT. (maybe 3 to 5 minutes). Express will show green and unit will show green.
The key was changing from AUTOMATIC to PREFERRED NETWORKS, and selecting the correct one from the menu shown. I had not had to make this selection in the past. AUTOMATIC had always worked until the update. Oh yes, and forget using SETUP ASSISTANT. It still is indicating something wrong with the AIRPORT card even though everything now is working fine.

  • Time Capsule is recognized but connection does not work

Hi everybody. My TC is recognized by my MacBookPro, I can change settings and it can be seen in the finder. But I cannot connect to it in the finder or do a backup and get access to the stored data.
I already updated the software, rebooted the TC, did a reset of all settings but still no connection.
The problem appeared after I disconnected the TC for 3 weeks. Before everything worked perfect.
    Can anybody help?

Have you reset Time Machine as follows?
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click your Time Capsule Disk to highlight it
    Click Use for Backup
Then, power off your complete network....all devices....order is not important
Start the modem first and let it run a few minutes
Start the Time Caspule next the same way
Start each device one at a time the same way
    Check for proper operation

  • After Time Capsule setup ethernet connection works but not wifi

    Time Capsule 2GB 5th Generation ME177LL/A model
Create a new network not matter what setting I use for wifi WPA/WPA2 or none when I go to connect it says invalid password on every device.
Everything plugged into ethernet works, bridge mode static IP and DNS setup. Firmware version 7.7.3 tried any combonation of android, iOS, Mac and Windows all same result. Any thoughts?

Take to apple store for testing.. it is not a very reliable model.

  • Time capsule blinking amber and my wireless network has vanished after factory reset

    Hello,
I have an Apple Macbook aluminum body with a Motorola cable modem hooked up to the Time Capsule which acts as my router. After turning the power off in my home, the internet has not been working. The light on the TC was green, but I had no internet because Airport had a "self-assigned" IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Then, I decided to do a hard reset and restore my setting to factory. The light on the TC is blinking amber. When I go into Airport Utility, it gives me this message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices". On top of all this, when I did the hard reset, my wifi network is not on the list of Airport networks in my range. It has completely disappeared. I have all the wires connected properly to the router and TC. Please help, this scenario is very frustrating.

If you performed a factory default reset, the TC is now broadcasting a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be either a letter or number.
You must first log on to this wireless network (there is no security or password) and establish a connection.
Then, if the TC was reset properly, you will be able to open AirPort Utility and re-configure the TC.
When you click Update to save your configuration settings, the TC will "dsiappear" from AirPort Utility. This is normal. Close AirPort Utility and wait for the TC to restart.
Then log on to the "new" wireless network that you named during the configuration.

  • Time Capsule Blinking

I have a time capsule 1TB that started blinking amber, now airport can not see it.  I have reset the capsule but will not connect.  I am currently on OSX 10.8.2  The capsule was originally setup with lion.  Does anyone have any ideas.

I had the same problem last night, having mistakenly changed from Internet bridge to DHCP. My TC is not used as an internet router, only as a wireless router, backup for time machine and an attached laser printer.
The TC was no longer visible on my iMac via Airport. It was visible as a device, but didn't show the folders, so useless.
On my VM windows XP (on the iMac) it showed up on the airport utility, but I always got an error message reading the configuration file. I had read that some problems were fixed in later versions of the windows airport utility, but having downloaded it told me it wanted windows 7.
I did a hard restart hoping the default settings would make it work, but no luck.
On the apple site there is an upgrade: AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule Firmware Update 7.6.1 but for some reason they have forgotten or removed the download button.
So until this morning completely stumped.
then I just wanted to check my network, which I can do using the iNet app on my iPad and I could actually see the time capsule.
    Solution:
I called up the airport utility on my iPad (iPad 1) and could read and edit all the time capsule settings no problem. The iPad utility showed 3 potential errors, one of which was having DHCP and NAT still switched on. I suppose this is default after the hard reset.
It seemed to be important to use static IP's and Bridge mode.
I could also start an update and suddenly the green light was back on. Restarted Airport on the iMac and it was back.
Luckily I had recently saved my time capsule config, so I could just restore it.
Hope this helps, at least those with an iPad.
