Time capsule blinking yellow

My time capsule will not stop blinking yellow

It can mean anything.. you need to look at your airport utility and find what the list of items is under the yellow dot.. or in 5.6 utility under status.

  • Time Capsule blinks yellow, when I go to airport utility to set up, it Says This apple wi-fi bse station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to internet.  My internet works, but I can't back up anything. What do I do??

Worked fine for about a couple of weeks after my son -law installed the time capsule.  I can access the Internet both from my wife's I phone and from my desktop.  I think that I need to get the DNS server numbers and put them in the two blanks; but where do I get them?  Thanks, Jim

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • Time capsule blinking amber and my wireless network has vanished after factory reset

    Hello,
I have an Apple Macbook aluminum body with a Motorola cable modem hooked up to the Time Capsule which acts as my router. After turning the power off in my home, the internet has not been working. The light on the TC was green, but I had no internet because Airport had a "self-assigned" IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Then, I decided to do a hard reset and restore my setting to factory. The light on the TC is blinking amber. When I go into Airport Utility, it gives me this message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices". On top of all this, when I did the hard reset, my wifi network is not on the list of Airport networks in my range. It has completely disappeared. I have all the wires connected properly to the router and TC. Please help, this scenario is very frustrating.

If you performed a factory default reset, the TC is now broadcasting a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be either a letter or number.
You must first log on to this wireless network (there is no security or password) and establish a connection.
Then, if the TC was reset properly, you will be able to open AirPort Utility and re-configure the TC.
When you click Update to save your configuration settings, the TC will "dsiappear" from AirPort Utility. This is normal. Close AirPort Utility and wait for the TC to restart.
Then log on to the "new" wireless network that you named during the configuration.

  • After upgrading to Lion Time Capsule solid yellow

    Hi
After upgrading to lion I am experiencing a lot of problems with time caspule
    1. backup fail: it starts and than fails (error message and yellow warning triangle)
    2. unable to connect to TC disk, neither from airport utility, nor from Finder
    3. Airport Utility hangs while trying to manually modify configuration (rainbow weel).
After a lot of reboot,  reset, disk rename, time capsule reconfiguration etc etc AND TC DISK REINITIALIZATION (ALLA BACKUP LOST!)
now backup seems to work and I can browse files in Time Machine
    BUT
Time Capsule is a steady YELLOW and Airport utility says there is an error on disk (The disk is not working)
    Can somebody help me.
This all happened after Lion installation. Not a problem before
    Franco

    Hi William
The disk is the internal Time Capsule Disk. It's a 1Tb model.
My iMac is localized in Italian
So I write here the Italian message and a possible translation
The first error message I get opening Airport Utility is:
Utility Airport ha trovato una Time Capsule 802.11n (2.a generazione) che segnala problemi
(AirPort Utility has found a Time Capsule 802.11n (2nd generation), which indicates problems)
If I press on "Continue" I enter a page that says
"Problema 1 di 1: Il disco Time Capsule non funziona"
(Problem 1 of 1: The Time Capsule Disk doesn't work)
"Si è verificato un problema con il Disco Time Capsule. Collega un disco rigido USB al tuo disco Time Capsule e utilizza il pannello Dischi di Utility Airport per archiviare i dati ed eseguire il backup."
(There was a problem with the Time Capsule disk. Connect a USB hard drive to your Time Capsule disk and use Disk Utility Airport panel to store data and run the backup.)
While if I go to the manual settings and I select the disk,
on the disk data info I have
    Stato S.M.A.R.T.: Non funziona
    (S.M.A.R.T status: Not working)
As I said before, apart from that problem, everything else (time machine, backups and file recovery) looks working good (until proven otherwise eh eh)
I don't know if to worry about the disk but I find suspicious that everything just started after Lion installation.
I called the call center and they just said to return the TC for disk repair (have to pay, warranty expired).
I told them about Lion installation fact and they said it looks like a coincidence but actually it is likely that after a disk initialization or a big amount of data writing the TC disk may break (WHAT ?!?)  and the Apple guy even suggested me to buy an external disk that is less expensive and give less problem than a TC !!!!
(I can agree on that now, but I was surprised to hear that from them )
Thank you very much for any help.
    I hope this info helps

  • Time Capsule Blinking Amber.  What to do?

    Hi Guys,
So I've been away from my home for the last 3 months, and on my return, my Time Capsule is blinking amber and my Mac cannot see the Capsule at all. I use my TC also as a Hard drive space too. I'm afraid that if I unplug my TC and hold the reset button, it'll wipe the drive or something. Has anyone had this issue before? How would one fix this? I'd hate to lose my data that I already have on it. My Airport Utility doesn't see the TC either. Please Help!! Anyone. Thanks Guys.

When AirPort Utility cannot find the device after multiple tries and methods, the next logical step is to hard reset the Time Capsule and reconfigure the settings. To do this, make sure the TC is powered on and then hold in the reset button until the amber light blinks quickly. This usually will take 5-7 seconds on average.
Power down the TC and computer, connect the ethernet cable between the computer and one of the LAN ports on the TC and open AirPort Utility to see if the TC can now be seen.
If that doesn't work, the only other option is to reset the TC back to factory defaults and try the configuration again. To do the factory default reset:
    Power down the Time Capsule
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approx 10 seconds.
Connect the ethernet cable as above and give that a try.

  • Time Capsule Blinking Orange when iMac off

I have my time capsule plugged in via USB and the wireless mode off - its just used for videos which is fine until I turn my iMac off and then it blinks its light orange to mean theres a problem....
Anyone any idea why and how to make it stop? When its switched on the light is green

When the TC is in a flashing amber condition, open AirPort Utility and click the TC to select it on the left and then click Manual Setup.
On the summary page of settings, click on the word "Status" and a message will appear to offer information about the "error".
It may be a notice that the TC does not have an internet connection. If you don't use it to connect to the internet, you can click "ignore" and the light should stay green at all times.
I'm not that familiar with iTunes, so you may want to start a new thread for that issue if you don't see responses on this thread.

  • Time Capsule Blinking

I have a time capsule 1TB that started blinking amber, now airport can not see it.  I have reset the capsule but will not connect.  I am currently on OSX 10.8.2  The capsule was originally setup with lion.  Does anyone have any ideas.

I had the same problem last night, having mistakenly changed from Internet bridge to DHCP. My TC is not used as an internet router, only as a wireless router, backup for time machine and an attached laser printer.
The TC was no longer visible on my iMac via Airport. It was visible as a device, but didn't show the folders, so useless.
On my VM windows XP (on the iMac) it showed up on the airport utility, but I always got an error message reading the configuration file. I had read that some problems were fixed in later versions of the windows airport utility, but having downloaded it told me it wanted windows 7.
I did a hard restart hoping the default settings would make it work, but no luck.
On the apple site there is an upgrade: AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule Firmware Update 7.6.1 but for some reason they have forgotten or removed the download button.
So until this morning completely stumped.
then I just wanted to check my network, which I can do using the iNet app on my iPad and I could actually see the time capsule.
    Solution:
I called up the airport utility on my iPad (iPad 1) and could read and edit all the time capsule settings no problem. The iPad utility showed 3 potential errors, one of which was having DHCP and NAT still switched on. I suppose this is default after the hard reset.
It seemed to be important to use static IP's and Bridge mode.
I could also start an update and suddenly the green light was back on. Restarted Airport on the iMac and it was back.
Luckily I had recently saved my time capsule config, so I could just restore it.
Hope this helps, at least those with an iPad.

  • Time Capsule with BT Home Hub - 9 hours of trying to set up and counting...

Hi...I am at my wits end having spent two long evenings trying simply to connect a Time Capsule to an iMac. We have pored over the instructions, read all the postings in all the forums, probably in the entire world (OK, slight exaggeration) and tried every possible combination, and still we end up with a non-responsive Time Capsule (blinking amber light), and the Airport software saying "Waiting for the Time Capsule to restart" in a perpetual loop. The issues may well be around compatibility with the BT Home HUb, but there again they may not. There are no clues about why it fails so consistently in every combination. For the record, these are the combinations we have so far tried: ethernet connection from WAN port on TC to Ethernet port on Home Hub...A wired connection is established successfully. But then immediately the wireless connection wizard starts up, we can't turn it off, and the wireless connection wizard fails. We have tried it in all three combinations of the Wireless wizard. The end result is always the above, the blinking amber light.
We have tried adding the TC without any ethernet connection being involved in the first place. This was the most promising, we actually finally got a green light on the TC itself, but, crucially, NOT in the Airport software: that just hung in the same perpetual loop saying "waiting for Time capsule to restart", even though it CLEARLY HAD RESTARTED (because it gave us the green light). So, after about 9 hours and counting trying to get this "out of the box" solution simply to be recognised by a Mac computer, let alone connected to any other devices in the house (heaven forbid), we are now at our wit's end. Does anyone have any advice?

hi cprelude, I have the same or nearly the setup as you a BT HH V1 and a 500gb timecapsule this is hardwired to bt hh and works well so fear not it can be resolved. first hold the reset button on the HH with the TC disconnected, then while the HH is restarting unplug the TC for a couple of mins then replug inyour TC with the reset switch at the rear pushed in and then let the TC restart and plug in the ethernet cable to thr HH then use Airport utility to connect to the TC. then if all goes well you can set up two wireless networks first being the HH and the second the TC 5ghz. if I was you I would do the first backup on TC via ethernet as the first wireless backup can take hours and hours depending on the amount GBs you already have on your hard drive
    good luck

  • Time capsule 'error occurred reading settings'

I was trying to configure 'back to my Mac' when I lost my Time Capsule. Have now got most systems OK and the Airport Utility window shows that I am connected to the internet; however it states 'no base stations found, searching'; on 'other wi-fi devices' it shows my time capsule but when I click on it a window starts up with 'reading settings' then after a while another window shows ' error occurred while reading the configurations.'  The only button I have to press is 'OK' then nothing happens and it leaves the light on the time capsule flashing yellow.  What now? Appreciate any help.

Redo the setup of the TC in full isolation from the network.
Ethernet to a computer and lan port on the TC. turn wireless off on the computer and nothing else in the TC.
Do factory reset and start again.
For BTMM to work it has to be main router in the network.. this can be difficult if you have a modem router that cannot be bridged. Tell us exactly what equipment you have.. modem and routers.
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.

  • Time Capsule lost connection, now my computer tells me there's no AirPort-card installed... HELP!

This morning my Time Capsule blinked orange for a minute, then went back to green. In the meantime I couldn't see one single wifi network through my Airport, it just showed as no connection and no networks available (my husband also on this wireless network, had no problems though). I decided to restart my computer and after doing that my Airport told me there's no AirPort-card installed. I can't look for my Time Capsule now as it won't detect it of course, so through that there is no way of solving it. I did the disk First Aid as read somewhere that checking and resetting the authorities for writing (I'm sorry, really don't know the right term for this, in Dutch: Schrijfbevoegdheden) might help but that didn't do anything. I really don't know what to do, sure it's a software program but I'm a total nitwit with computers and don't want to start just doing things and messing it up even worse... Any help is much appreciated!!!

Updating to 10.5.6 fixed the issue.
