Time Capsule blocked Sound Preferences

Since installing Time Capsule/Airport my sound is on mute in System Preferences: Sound. It is grayed out so I can't turn it back on. The sound keys on my keyboard no longer work nor is there a sound icon in my desktop menu. Any ideas? I really miss the sound of email leaving and arriving.

i had the same problem on my parents imac g5. this was without the tc, but with time machine newly working. perhaps its related. were you using time machine before?

  • Time Capsule blocking one web site.

My Time Capsule is plugged into several PC's and several MAC's. I can't get to my work email web site only with anything that is attached or connected wirelesly to the Time Capsule. If I hardwire a computer directly to my cable modem I can access the site. I've had the Time Capsule for about a month and a half now and it just started blocking this site about three days ago. Any suggestions?

Having this same issue. All sites work fine except for one: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org . I've restored the Time Capsule to default settings, use DHCP to auto config the TC from the modem, same problem. If I plug directly from mac into cable modem, the site works.
The IP resolves fine. I can traceroute to the IP, can ping it, but when I try telnet'ing to the IP on port 80, connection times out. No TC, it works fine. Grrr... really frustrating.

  • Time Capsule Blocking Verizon Email

My Time Capsule is blocking Verizon email.  The problem is on the wired and wireless connections.  It seems clear that the email is getitng through the modem and then getting blocked by the Time Capsule.  I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my imac but the problem is also present on my iphone 5 and my macbook air.

To provide a little more info, Verizon is not my internet provider; TWC is.  The airport is plugged into a dedicated modem (not a modem/router combo device).  The verizon email addresses are the only ones that don't come through.

  • Time Capsule blocks WAN more and more often until ________.

I'm afraid my very expensive, one year old Time Capsule is becoming an expensive mistake.  According to Apple it's out of warranty.  According to me it doesn't work as a router anymore.  (My ten year old Linksys is back in action at this point.)
A couple weeks ago I noticed that internet traffic stopped for no reason.  At first I thought it was the cable modem, since it was eight years old, so I replaced it.  The internet traffic started stopping more frequently as time went on. After much troubleshooting and narrowing down the patterns all fingers pointed to the Time Capsule.  Firmware updates, hard factory resets, re-configurations, etc, were not helpful. In the end the unit can't even downgrade firmware because it can't download it.
I'm so disappointed in this product.

It does sound like the TC is dead.. I presume it is Gen4. They have a nasty fault.. and I think it might be the ethernet is gone. Let it cool down overnight..
On startup do a factory reset immediately.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
You do not need any connections to it.
And plug your computer in by ethernet. Then just track it for an hour or so.. keep a ping to the IP address 10.0.1.1 and see if it drops out or not.
If it runs plug it into the Linksys and see if you can do a firmware downgrade to 7.6.1. I don't believe yours will go back further than this, although early gen4 will actually go back to 7.5.2.
The alternative is to exercise warranty.. if it is more than 12 months old you need apple care on your computer. or AppleTV.. and the TC must be purchased within 2 years of the computer or Apple TV. So if you take it to Apple and they say no warranty because it is 3days over 12months.. ask if you buy a new Apple TV and buy apple care on it.. will they replace the TC.. if so, go ahead with the purchase. Do not open the Apple TV.. simply sell it again immediately on ebay .. you will get almost new price for them.. sealed in the box.
So effectively you slyly bought apple care on a TC and made Apple replace it.
You may like to sell the replacement unit on ebay as well.. as yes, they can be less than reliable.. luck of the draw I guess.. gen4 have been very reliable up until recently when this issue started to show up.

  • Time capsule blocks wifisignal

Recently, my time capsule has started to block out my home router wifi signal.  When I turn off the time capsule, I can access the internet fine but not when I turn the capsule back on.  Really hope someone out there has some ideas?  Thanks.

It is not blocking the signal .. it is alternative to home router wifi.. because the TC is not setup correctly as part of the network.
We need more info.. how is the TC plugged into the network.. working in what mode??
What are you using the TC for?
Did this work ok before and has failed or never worked?

  • Time Capsule blocks access from outside

I just changed my Airport Extreme with a Time Capsule using the "replace existing airport" option in the airport utility. I have a MacMini attached with ethernet to the Time Capsule that runs as a server (web server, ftp server, vnc) that can be accessed from the public Internet. However, after upgrading to the Time Capsule I cannot access the MacMini server from the Internet. I have tried all the settings I can think of. Both NAT with default server and NAT with configured services fail to work.
Are there any changed behaviours between these network equipment? (the Airport Extreme is the fast-ethernet version). Both uses the latest firmware and software.

There was a problem in the ISP settings - the external IP address changed when i swapped the Airport Extreme with the Time Capsule...

  • Is the Time Capsule suppose to sound like a whirring fan - really loud all the time?

My newly purchased time capsule is sounds like a loud fan!  Is that normal?

No. It should be nearly whisper quiet when operating. It may be that you have a defective unit and I would recommend returning it for a replacement.

  • I need to use my time capsule as an external HD

I bought a time capsule recently and not knowing what i was doing, I copied my music and movies library over to it into the "data" folder. I think I screwed up because every time I try to play it in itunes the destination changes, and I can't bring the files back over. Trying to remedy that problem i created a 1 partition on my time capsule, I labeled it "storage" and used "EXFat" because that's what i read on some website which had no credibility apparently because now my time capsule can't find the sparse bundle.
So my first question is, how do I completely restore my time capsule? It only has about a month copied and it's not a big deal if i lose my media because most of it I havn't listened to in a long time.
Second question, How should i successfully store my future media? I spend 80% of my week at school with my laptop. I don't need all the music and movies taking up space on my computer while I am at school. I would like to have a storage disk, preferably wireless, at home that can store and play my music and movies. I also want all of my media to be backed up, i bring that up because I have read that files on the time capsule do not get backed up.
A guy at the apple store told me I should get an external hd and hook it up to the time capsule, that sounds ideal, but I have a question about that. Will i be able to access it wirelessly? Also will my timecapsule back it up routinely?
    Thanks for the help.

What do you see that gives you that impression?

I'd like to know how you did that.  I agree with that Web site's lack of credibility.
how do I completely restore my time capsule?
In AirPort Utility put the Time Capsule into "manual setup" mode, select the Disks panel and the Disks tab, select the "Time Capsule Disk", and click the "Erase" button.
How should i successfully store my future media?
You might consider a 2.5" bus-powered external drive that you'd connect directly to your Mac.  Unless you want to buy an already-configured one, you should be able to buy a bare drive starting at US$40 and an enclosure for under US$20.  Time Machine would back up the contents of a drive connected that way.

  • Only One User Can Access Time Capsule At A Time

    This seems strange....
I've been using the Time Capsule without issue for around a year. I can access it from my Mac Mini with no problem. I can also access it from my Macbook with no problem. When it comes to the iMac, I have two user accounts. One for me, and one for my wife. When my wife tried to access it, the Time Capsule blocked access beyond the root. (So we could select TC from the sidebar, then double-click the TC folder that appeared, then the small icon in the top of the window has a stop sign through it with no folders displayed).
Mine is fine - so I tried to fix it by deleting my wife's keychain passwords to the TC. I reset them and it connected her. However, when I swapped to my account I was locked out!
I reconnected, and I regained access - and now my wife's locked out again!
I haven't got the time capsule set to user account access, so I have no idea where to go from here!
    Please help!

I am not sure if this issue is happening because of following observation.
The config is using ip 10.2.10.255 in the VPN pool , we cannot use this ip address as this is broadcast ip in the VPN pool subnet. Do the following and then check connecting vpn clients and post results.
no ip local pool ifn_noc_ips 10.2.10.1-10.2.10.255 mask 255.255.255.0
    ip local pool ifn_noc_ips 10.2.10.1-10.2.10.254 mask 255.255.255.0

  • HT201250 can a time capsule be used as just a backup for data without being connected to a home network?

This is the explanation for my my question about whether a time capsule can be used as a backup without being connected to a network.  I had to disconnect my time capsule when I upgraded my landline to a wireless home phone in order to go to a wireless security system that would work with my 2WIRE router. The time capsule blocked the usage of my camera on my security system, not allowing the camera to connect to the 2WIRE router. Once I disconnected the time capsule,  the camera was able to connect wirelessly to the 2WIRE.

As you can read, you can do what you want. You just have to set up the Time Capsule network in AirPort Utility without connecting it to the router and ignoring the messages, and connect to the Time Capsule network. You will have to switch between the Time Capsule and the other router's networks

  • Big Time Capsule Problems

I'm having big problems with my time capsule.
I've had it a week and the first backup is not yet done. Today I have spent 6 hours watching it say 'preparing' but never backing up. Now it is saying 'failed' because 'The backup disk image could not be mounted.' What is going on?
Please help - I've spent nearly a week on this and I'm sick of it. It's not what I xpect from apple.

I have been having problems with Time Capsule being unable to create disk image or not mounting, on and off since I got it about a year ago. I have gleaned a series of different assists, which I apply en mass, each time I need to reset and start all over.
Here are the key things to do to rid it of gremlins. (I don't know whether they all help or one is the key to my problems)
1/ Network name. In system folder> Sharing make sure there is a name of your network. Less than eight characters and no punctuation.
2/ Run disk utility to verify and repair disks
3/ In TC preferences, select no disc.
4/ Turn off TC at wall.
5/ Delete the sparse bundle (Created by TC)
6/ Erase the disk (In disk utility), if it will allow you
7/ Change name of Time capsule in TC preferences. Same again, less than 8 and no punctuation
8/ Turn back on and select disk, newly named disc.
    9/ Try backing up.
Even if you have done some of these before, I always need to make minor adjustments to the disc or network names to kickstart it again. This will necessitate a 24hour full HD backup to take place, and will wipe what is already on your disc.

  • Joining time capsule to existing wireless network

I want to back up my computer to time capsule
My time capsule was previously set up as my own wireless base station, with ethernet cord plugged in.
I'm currently staying in a house with it's own wireless router/network, and I just want to use the time capsule to back up through the house network, not as its own base station. How do I join it to the existing wireless network and set it up for time machine backups?
    thanks

Are you able to log onto to the old wireless network that the Time Capsule is providing and open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup?
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    If yes,
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Write down all of the current settings for safekeeping.
    Then, make these changes:
Wireless Mode = Join a wireless network. If you do not see this choice, hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the selection box
Wireless Network Name = Name of the network you want to join
    Wireless Security = WPA2 Personal
    Wireless Password = Wireless Password
    Confirm Password
Click Update to save settings. The Time Capsule will disappear from AirPort Utility, so close AirPort Utility. After 30-40 seconds, the Time Capsules should have a green light.
You'll need to reset Time Machine so it can find the Time Capsule
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use for Backups
    That should get you going.

  • Accessing Time Capsule from iPad 1st Gen.

I want to access my Time Capsule from my iPad 1st Generation, but the option to "Set up an AirPort Base Station" is not showing up on the iPad's "Wi-Fi Networks" screen.

"All you need to do is plug in your Time Capsule and connect it to your DSL or cable modem. Then simply select your Time Capsule in Wi-Fi settings in iOS 5, or from the Wi-Fi menu in OS X Lion, and follow the instructions."
I understand this to mean that you would configure the iPad to connect to the wireless network that the Time Capsule is providing. So, it would connect just like any other computer.
You select the wireless network, enter the password to connect and you are on the network.
AirPort Utility would only be used if you have a brand new Time Capsule that you want to configure.
If you are asking if the iPad can "read" normal files on the Time Capsule (not Time Machine backups), then you will need an app like App Store - FileBrowser - Access files on remote computers (and Time Capsule)
Really sounds like you have questions for the iPad Support Area.  Please follow up there:

  • Time capsule will not back up/sparse bundle is already in use?

Time capsule will not back up/sparse bundle is already in use?

Thank you.  After reading more, I turned off time capsule in system preferences, shut down computer, unpluged and pluged back in time capsule.  Turned computer back on and the problem went away and time capsule successfully backed up.
There is an old rule in boht PC and MAC world, try reboot first, ask later.  I often forget it.
    Thanks again.

. .....but i couldn't find the time capsule from airport utility..... why?

Are you using a new 802.11ac Time Capsule - the "tall" one - and are you still using Mac OS X 10.6.8?
You need OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or later, or an iOS device, to configure an 802.11ac Time Capsule:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1645/en_US/airport_time_capsule_802 11ac_setup.pdf
