Time Capsule Bridge Wireless to Ethernet?

Hello,
I currently use my TC to wirelessly join a network -- it is not connected via ethernet to anything.
I'd like to use the ethernet ports on my TC as a wireless bridge, taking the wireless signal TC gets from joining a network and extending it to ethernet clients that don't have Airport cards.
This doesn't seem possible -- is there a way to do it? The "Bridge mode" seems to only work in WDS mode -- which I don't think is what I want. Does anybody know if this is possible?
Again, I do not want ethernet to wireless bridge, but the opposite, using my time capsule to join wifi, and then share it to any computer connected to TC's ethernet ports.

Sorry, but what you are proposing will not work. You will need to either connect the TC to the other router by Ethernet or create a WDS between the two in order to enable the TC's LAN ports.

Firstly, try a factory reset. This can often iron out problems like this.
Also, what generation is your TC? What version of AirPort Utility are you using?

The external drive must be connected to the Mac using either USB or FireWire
You must remove the external hard drive from the list of items that are "excluded" from backups in Time Machine Preferences.
Here's how:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Time Machine
Click Options
Look for the name of the hard drive in the list of "excluded" items and click on it to highlight it
Click the -- (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the hard drive from the list of "excluded" items....so it will now be backed up
Strongly recommend that you do the first backup using Ethenret from your computer to the Time Capsule since the entire contents of the external drive will be copied on the first pass. Ethernet will be 3-5 faster than wireless.
Once you have the first backup done, you can use wireless for subsequent backups since they will nornally be much smaller....unless you add large files to the external drive.

Yes, it's a 802.11 a/b/g/n (pretty much all the popular wireless standards). If you get the latest generation, it will also give you TWO wireless networks - the main one for you and a guest network. It has dual bands so that your guests can connect outside of your network.
It also has 4 Ethernet ports on the back to connect non-wireless devices.

I have a tower and recently a laptop at work. The tower is connected to our local network with an ethernet cable and the laptop with wireless. So, the internet connection is fine for both.
I was hoping to use my time capsule to do time machine backups on my laptop. Do you have any advice on how to configure this? I do not want to use the time capsule to extend my Internet, as I believe my work I.T. would prefer to handle all access to their network.
Perhaps there is some documentation about doing this that you could point me to? I have not been able to find it.

Your original question was How to use Time Capsule for wireless back-up but not Internet?
There is no reason for you to connect the tower....or anything else...using Ethernet if your goal remains that same as you stated.
If you are asking if you can backup the Tower using Ethernet, and not wireless, then you can connect the tower to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule....not the WAN port.

I just have to select the network that it created. Of course, I have no access to the Internet while this is happening and it can not auto backup, unless I am on that wireless signal.
As I stated, that is the downside to trying to back up without an Internet connection. You have to establish another network...and backup over that network.
If you are asking if you can stay connected to the work network while also backing up to your non-Internet "private" network, that is not possible.

OK.. starting to get the picture..
You should have run ethernet between the two buildings not cable.
Does the cable for the second building start inside your house.. ie do you have a termination for cable or does the second building come in directly from the street.
If you have cable link between the two buildings you can buy ethernet to cable adapters.. plug one it at each end and simply extend by plugging it into the router on the main cable link.. simple and far superior to wireless.
Otherwise you need to work out what kind of budget you want to spend to do this..
You can buy professional or semi-pro stuff from companies like ubiquiti which are far superior to domestic wireless link.. or if you want to do it on the cheap figure out what is the min speed you can live with.
I can give you instructions for using a pair of old airport.. in WDS.. or new ones.. but the new ones will cost far more and no gain.. you can usually pick up the old discus ones for $10 on ebay and they work great.
But don't try to do it without a link.. ie a specific set of AP in one house plus repeater in the other. As anything you do without making a link will just fall down or become unreliable.
You must have a pair of matched items.. You want to do this with WDS.. and you want something with good range. If you want N wireless that is fine.. but buy a pair of N wireless routers that can do WDS with full WPA2 security. eg full N wireless edimax stuff is not bad. TP-Link also not bad.. but if you want to run airplay and bonjour etc.. anything apple network then stick to apple. You will find that non-apple wireless routers will often not work with apple specific protocols.. as they are just that.. non-specified.

iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone back up to iTunes on your computer.....or.....to iCloud.
They do not and cannot back up directly to the Time Capsule.
If you then back up your computer to the Time Capsule, all the backups in iTunes are backed up on the Time Capsule....in case your computer hard drive fails, is stolen, etc.
Your computer can back up to the Time Capsule using wireless or via an Ethernet connection.

Assuming that you have the model A1264 or A1392 version of the Express, it must be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the Time Capsule to be able to extend it correctly.
A good general location would be a point that is about half way between the Time Capsule and other area that needs more wireless coverage.
You will use AirPort Utility on your computer to configure the Express. An iPhone or iPad could be used as well.
We can provide more help....if you need it....but we'll need to know what version of AirPort Utility that you are using on your computer....or whether you want to use an iPhone or iPad to setup the Express.

How can I access the time capsule hard drive via ethernet?

I recently bought a new laptop, as my old one was sadly stolen. I'm trying to connect to my backed up time capsule hard drive via ethernet to retrieve my files, but it doesn't seem to work. Oddly enough I have no issues over wifi. When I switch from wifi to ethernet, it gives me an error message stating that the disk was not found in the network. I have a MacBook Air with an ethernet adapter if that makes any difference. I'm also running the latest OS X and firmware. Wifi is simply too slow for this restoration process, so any suggestions?
Could I possibly connect via USB? What kind of cable would that require? Is the ethernet issue a problem with my settings?

How are you doing that switching? When you switch to Ethernet do you have connectivity to the Internet? If not, do you see a tiny green light on the Time Capsule next to the Ethernet socket you're using?

Time Machine backup to Time Capsule clobbers wireless network

Dear All,
When TimeMachine starts a backup to my new Time Capsule, the wireless network gets clobbered. Other computers on the network's throughput to external sites goes to basically zero (slow ping times, dropped packets- basically unusable.) Is this the expected behavior?
The configuration I have for my home network is
cable modem -> time capsule serving wireless network -> "g" network with 2-3 laptops (macbook pro and dell windows laptops.) The dells can't do anything when Time Machine runs, and since it runs hourly it is a bit irritating. I'm considering getting another Mac and then the downtime of my network would increase even more....
Any help would be appreciated.

My old G5 has 802.11b, and back ups to TC are SLOW. But then the "wire speed" of g is 11M bits/s or ~1 MB/s, but in the real world if you got 100KB/s that's probably good. 100KB/s is only 6 MB/min or .36 GB/hr.
So 2GB/.36GB which is 5.6 hrs.
Or to put it another way that's about 3 GB/hr at very best.
And that's ignoring stuff like compression!
in short: not usable with 802.11g

On my Mac Pro with 802.11n (54 Mbs) I get about 8x that because "n" is about 5x faster wire speed and seems to have better "software".
e.g. I get about about 25 GB/hr on my ".11n" system
Still way slow but at least useable.

Cannot restore from Time Capsule backup wirelessly to Mountain Lion Retina

I just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display and a Time Capsule router. The Time Capsule has supposedly backed up my macbook for a few days but when I try a complete restore from the Time Capsule backup wirelessly, it fails. New to Apple but do remember"can't access time capsule" even though network works fine.
Any help appreciated !!!

Time Capsule Degrades Wireless Internet Connection: I am in FL using Brighthouse Cable as my internet provider (15MG down). The internet connection speed is slower than a dial up connection when wirelessly connected to my network to my Time Capsule. When I remove the Time Capsule and replace it with Brighthouses Netgear router the internet speed are normal (fast). Additionally, the internet speed is OK when I first hit a website, but the speed degrades rapidly as I access additional web pages. I no longer use my Time Capsule and therefore are not getting my back-up protection. (NOTE: I tried Verizon Fios and had the same problem.) Can anyone help?

Bought the time capsule in Oct 2013. I have a Sagemcom 2864 modem from Bell but used through Teksavvy. The 5 ghz has been flaky until I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 I think. I had a closer look at it and it appears that the wifi is ok. I was thrown off by the wifi symbol being all animated in the menu bar. I was able to ping the time capsule via wifi. All the status lights on the modem looked ok. Next time it happens, I'll see if I can get some more details. Do you know if there's anyway to get some logs from the airport utility?

Time Capsule as Wireless Ethernet Bridge

So I picked up the Time Capsule to handle things with my MacBook. That means I now have a wireless N router (dLink DIR-655) kicking around. I want to try to use it to get wireless N to my Xbox in another room.
Sadly, the dLink router doesn't seem to be able to bridge, so I've used it as my primary router (connected to my modem).
How can I get my Time Capsule to hop on the existing wireless network, and then use the ethernet cable to connect the TC to my Xbox?
MODEM--(wired)-->DIR655--(wireless n)-->TC--(wired)-->Xbox
Note that I still need my PC (hard wired to the dLink router) and my MacBook (wireless to my dLink router) to see the TC for hard drive storage.
Bonus points if you can figure out having the one dLink network serve only the TC, and having the TC broadcast a new network for the MacBook and my iPhone, while still serving the Xbox on a wired connection.

I'm afraid we'll get no bonus points since products from different manufacturers are rarely compatible for bridging or extending a wireless network.
While the Time Capsule could be configured to "join" the wireless network of your D-Link router and backups would occur over your current wireless network, when it is setup this way, all routing functions become disabled. This means that the ethernet ports are not enabled and the Time Capsule does not provide any additional wireless coverage.
It's not possible to configure the the Time Capsule to "extend a wireless network" with your D-Link router since this function only works if you have another Apple "n" device setup as the main router on your network. (When the Time Capsule is configured to "extend", it provides additional wireless coverage and the ethernet ports are enabled.)
If you want the Time Capsule's ethernet ports to be enabled and you want it to create a wireless network for more coverage, you'll need to connect the Time Capsule to your D-Link router using an ethernet cable. Or, if this is not possible, you might consider a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by utilizing the AC wiring in your home.

I am connected to a time capsule both wirelessly and through ethernet...and state of the time capsule is solid green...the internet however doesn't work...The internet works fine when directly connected to my macbook pro but it won't work through the tc

I have deleted time machine preferences...restarted the modem a bunch of times, restored time capsule to it's original settings...after I first set it up in Airport Ulitity its shows a page quickly that states there is a internet problem, but the page quickly goes away before I can read what it says exaclty and states the internet connection problem is resolved...
However it's not resolved, I'm also having trouble doing a back up to my time capsule...I recently purchased a new macbook and retrieved/restore what was on the time capsule to the new computer...that worked fine...wireless worked fine...however when I tried to back up the new macbook...it would faii stating that there isn't enough room on the TC to do a back up...
I didn't end up keeping the new macbook, I was just using it/trying it out while my current macbook pro was being repaired (logic board)
Ever since I got my current macbook back from repair...my backups have failed due to their not being enough space to perform the back up...in the past the back ups would happen and old back ups would be replaced...
I think this has to do with my current computer having a new name after the repair..."Adam's macbook pro 2" vs "Adam's macbook pro"
The internet was working fine wirelessly through the TC a day ago, but it wasn't allowing my other laptop that was connected via ethernet access to the internet...I had a self assigned IP address error then...I don't have that problem now, but it's not transmitting internet at all...even though it's in a solid green state.
I have no problem completely wiping out my TC including the previous back ups on it...just don't know how to go about it...I have restored it to factory settings a bunch of times and created the network from scratch...just hasn't fixed the issue

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

Using Time Capsule to Wirelessly Receive Internet and then Extend Network via Ethernet

Our modem/router combo is located downstairs, and my computer that i want to get online is upstairs. I cannot get a ethernet from the modem to my computer to access the internet, so I wanted to try to use my Time Capsule to help me get online upstairs (not sure if this is possible...)
My idea was to have the Time Capsule receive the wireless signal and then connect the computer to the Time Capsule through an ethernet so that I may get the computer online. Essentially wireless connection in, wired connection out.
I've been playing around with the device for a while now, and can't seem to make this work. Has anyone used the Time Capsule in this fashion? Is it even possible? If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my computer online?

The Apple solution might well need Two devices to extend range.
You would retain your ISP router/modem however would go into settings and TURN OFF wireless on that device - you can do this in the Java Web based control panels on most routers.
Now you sling the Ethernet cable between that router and a purchased Time Capsule device locally and set this up to create a new local Wifi network (Replacing that of the ISP supplied router) . Being a dual band device and being able to broadcast both over 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz frequency base bands simultaneously you could well see improved performance and range straight away.
However if not then you are going to need a further device an Airport Express set up in bridged mode somewhere between the Time Capsule and your upstairs rooms. Your may have to try various power points and locations to get coverage required.
Further Airport Express devices can be added in bridged mode as required to cover blind spots, however remember each additional device degrades the overall network performance somewhat.
Again this will get quite costly.
