Time Capsule Cannot Be Mounted

I have had my time capsule for about a month and for some reason it cannot mount the disk image. If anyone found out how to fix this please tell me.

If it has been working for the past month and you recently encountered a cannout mount message, you can try restarting your Mac and/or TC.
I saw this message once (on 1 of my 4 Macs) and restarting solved it and it has not happended again.

  • Time Capsule will not mount

To begin, my finder stopped working and I was advised to re-install Snow Leopard. I did so confident that I could backup from my Time Capsule. However my Time Capsule will not mount and at times cannot be found. I am reluctant to change settings which may result in me not being able to ultimately restore my files.
Where do I go from here? Any help much appreciated.

I had the exact same issue. What actually got my attention was the loss of the internet first. That took pulling the power on Time Capsule and plugging back in to the net back. Then I notice time capsule wouldn't update -- my Time Capsule disk wasn't visible. I tried everything I could think of, resets, hard resets and new passwords all the way around. There was no issue with the network access it was great -- good on wireless, good on ethernet. Just no time capsule disk visible anywhere -- not in Finder and not in AirPort Utility Disks.
I finally downgraded my firmware to 7.3.1 (Airport Utility -- Base Station > Upload Firmware) --- and that still didn't work. Had to go pull the plug again just to get out of the yellow light.
With nothing to loose I upgraded the firmware back to 7.3.2 and voila --- an error message!! "Internal Disk Error" --- at least I was getting something.
A quick search turns up the solution to this issue...just erase the dis in the AirPort Utility. Open the Time Capsule in AirPort Utility, go to the Disks tab, select the disk and click Erase.
PIA - but it is all good again. I thought I had a HDD failure.

  • Time Capsule won't mount after upgrade to iTunes 9

See my full post in the Time Capsule support section ("Help! Time Capsule won't mount after installing iTunes 9"). My music library is on my Time Capsule, but after installing iTunes 9, it won't mount on my iMac G5. I can use the internet, but the disk won't mount. My Powerbook hasn't been updated yet and the Time Capsule mounts fine.

To make it easier, here's the post:
"My music library is on my 500 Gb Time Capsule. I just installed iTunes 9 on my iMac. It updated my library and synced my iPhone. Now, the TC won't mount. I still have internet connectivity, but I can't access my media or print to my printer connected to the TC. I can use the computer and everything, but if I hover my mouse over the TC disks menu bar icon, I get the spinning beach ball there. If I try to connect using my Network icon in the sidebar, it allows me to log in and get to the screen to select the volume I want to mount, then stops responding. In the Activity Monitor, AFP Client & AirPort Base Station Agent are not responding. I also have a Powerbook G4 w/Leopard (10.5.8) which hasn't been updated to iTunes 9 yet. The Time Capsule mounted fine on it."

  • HT1218 How do I troubleshoot this: Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/ MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" is already in use.

This is the second time I've encountered this issue with Time Capsule using Time Machine automatic backup. I haven't found the following specific error message in the list of troubleshooting issues: "Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use."
I'm not certain what causes this issue. I think it may have something to do with having to force shutdown with apps still open when the beachball hangs and the MacBook has to be rebooted.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Restart your Mac and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this should solve the problem.

my time capsule cannot support printer canon mf4500 is there any solution ?

How are  you trying to connect the Canon device to the Time Capsule?
    USB?  Wireless?  Ethernet?
Have you checked the Canon web site to see if new software/drivers are available and downloaded the latest versions of the software for your device?

A "clicking noise" is often a sign that a hard drive is malfunctioning. Suggest that you power down the device and take it to an Apple store to have them take a look, or contact Customer Service at Apple for instructions.

  • Time Capsule cannot complete the backup, backup disk not available. Help please!

    Hi,
I've only ever been able to complete one back up using my time capsule and have been having problems for months! I've tried resetting and restarting the TC, it re-installs successfully and the green light comes onto the TC. However, when I try to backup I get the following message:
Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk is not available.
I've tried taking it into the Apple store to the genius bar and they seem to think it is working fine. It seems to have connected successfully to my network at home so I'm struggling to work out what to do. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

Have you updated to the latest Time capsule firmware?

  • Error message: "Time Capsule cannot be found"

I tried accessing my Time Capsule drive from Finder. The TC shows up in the Finder window as a shared drive. However, when I try to open TC, I get an error message that says: "the operation cannot be completed because the original item for Time Capsule cannot be found." The wireless router is working and it shows that I am connected. As I was typing this, a scheduled backup was supposed to begin but the desktop icon that shows the backup in process that pops up when I'm backing up is not appearing.

I am having similar problem. My error: "Connection Failed: There was an error connecting to the server "NAME HERE.local". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator".

  • Airport Time Capsule cannot see my existing wireless network

Just bought iMac and an ATC, and have the iMac connected to my wireless network (Linksys WRT1900AC, 802.11ac) and trying to get the ATC to see it and extend it.  The ATC light is blinking amber and while I can see it in the airport utility, when I try to get it to join my wireless network--it doesn't see it, only sees one (my iMac sees 6) and it's my neighbor's (who has a Mac, not sure if Apple wireless)
    What to do?
    Thanks!

The Time Capsule cannot wirelessly "extend" the signal from the Linksys wireless router.
Instead, the Time Capsule needs to connect to the Linksys router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you want the Time Capsule to provide additional wireless coverage, it can do so. Simply use the same wireless network name and password as the Linksys network.
Here, I am assuming that the Time Capsule will be located a few rooms away from the Linksys router....and not in close proximity to the Linksys router.

  • Time Capsule disk wont Mount

Please help: I have scoured the discussion topics, etc., for hours and hours now, and though there are some out there who have similar problems, any answers given don't work.
After "upgrading" the firmware to 7.4.2 the disk for the TC is gone. It won't appear in the finder, nor the Airport Utility (5.4.2), nor Disk Utility. Internet is fine for both my computers and PS3, the disk won't appear on either of my computers. I have tried:
-resetting, hard resetting the time capsule.
-downgrading to 7.4.1, then back up again (after trying numerous fixes)
    -verified disk/checked/repaired permissions.
    -numerous starts/restarts
-adjusted file sharing, etc., on the TC via Airport Utility
-tried setting up the TC with no password
    -and more.
The disk simply won't appear anywhere. In Airport Utility (which claims everything is just fine), clicking on the "disks" tab simply says "no disks found." Time Machine, when accessed via sysprefs, when "off" says choose disk, then when that is pushed it doesn't come up. When I turn Time Machine on, I get a screen showing no disks to choose from, but a radio button saying "set up time capsule", which leads me back to the Airport Utility which says all is fine. As I mentioned, I have gone through the setup numerous times. Disk Utility simple doesn't show it, and it mounts nowhere in any permutations of the finder.
Is it mechanical? The thing is only a couple months old and have had no problems until the upgrade.

    How to erase?
Temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC and open AirPort Utility to see if that will "find" the TC.
If you still cannot "see" the TC, you'll need to reset the TC back to factory defaults as follows:
    Power down the TC
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it is as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 5-6 seconds
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Disk icon at the top of the Setup pane
Click the Disks tab just below
    Click Erase
The most secure erase will take forever...maybe a day or two depending on how much data is on the disk. So try one of the other settings unless you have plenty of time.

  • Time capsule Hard drive mounting

With multable users logged on to a single laptop. Only one user can see time capsule Hard drive content .  you have to log other users off., or de-mount the time capsule of the other users. this seems not right. Why

Hey....I got my TC up in going 1-2-3. Getting my wireless router and time machine going was a snap. I could not figure out how to use it as a hard drive. I was able to see the TC as a shared device (open up your hard drive, it is displayed on the left column) but I was denied access.
After I updated my system software, the problem went away. Up to date, meaning run software update and make sure it is up to date. Also, I am running Leopard, I would think TC is geared towards that. Also....I suggest restarting all your equipment. Your TC, computer and router.
I hope that made sense. Time capsule is now doing what I expected it to do. I am currently looking into web options with it.

  • Time Capsule Disk not mounting

Since a couple of days, my 2 TB Time Capsule (1st generation, software version 7.6) disk (2 partitions) will not mount. Neither does it show up in the TimeCapsule preferences list. It has a wired ethernet connection with my MacMini and I use AirPort with my MBP and iMac. AirPort (sofware version 5.5.3) still works. I tried resetting, going through the fast-and-slow amber blinking lights, and the light on front is green again. What is the problem and do I get access to my data?

I'm curious: How did you manage to partition the internal disk of your Time Capsule?
The first 2TB Time Capsule was a 2nd generation model.
Neither does it show up in the TimeCapsule preferences list.
Please explain what you mean by "the Time Capsule preferences list".

  • Time capsule cannot connect to internet

    Hi,
I had just purchase the time capusle(the model they have in stores now) and am trying to use my time capsule as my wifi router but failed.
Here's how it works now, internet-->modem--(LAN)-->Buffalo routerWZR-HP-G302H--(LAN)-->Time Capsule
and how I want it to work internet-->modem--(LAN)-->Time Capsule
When I connect the time capsule directly to the modem, and had setup the timecapsule, the airport utility shows that I am not connected to the internet so I checked from my system preference-->network, it says I am connected to wifi. The Airport Utility still shows that I am not connected to internet, orange/amber light for internet and flashing orange/amber light for time capsule.
At first, airport utility says time capsule has internet connection problem and DNS server and the other problem that I cannot remember, but in the end I fix the other two problem and now there's only one left, that is the internet connection. I am not able to connect to the internet no matter how many time I use the system preference-->network and use "Assist Me" to fix the internet connection, which usually works but not this time. I also try it on my ipods, iphones and ipads and they all cannot connect to the internet through wifi but when I connect the LAN to my computer it works perfectly.
Can anyone help me with this probelm? Why can't it connect to the internet?
    Thanks in advance

There is some extra info I need.
What modem.. make and model..?? What kind of broadband?
How is the Buffalo setup? Is it router or bridged and if router is it using pppoe?
There is nothing wrong with keeping the buffalo .. it is a very reasonable router.. and just use the TC in bridge plugged into it..
I have to confess I really dislike the airport utility v6 in Mountain Lion.. it is a kiddie toy version of the real v5 utility. Half your problems relate to the near to useless nature of the utility.
Can you install 5.6 and then we can get somewhere.
    Here is howto..
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • I took my laptop on vacation and it says the computer cannot find the time capsule cannot connection; the wireless still works.  How do I get it to reconnect

I had my MacBook Pro running Mt Lion OS X 10.8.3 disconnected from my Time Capsule, gen4 for a month.  Upon returning, I get the message that my computer cannot connect to the Time Capsule for backup.  It does however, pick up the wireless internet.  How do I reconnect for backup?

Just pretend you are setting it up for the first time, and follow the directions here:

  • Cannot find time capsule, cannot back up

My time capsule will not back up. The message is that "the backup disk is not available". When I go to airport utility, it cannot find the time capsule. I cannot "connect to backup volume" if I try to open time machine. I have power cycled the router I'm connected to as well as the time capsule.
I am running OS 10.6.8. I just updated the firmware for my 1TB time capsule, but it stopped connecting before that.
    Any help?

If you are using SL go back to 7.5.2 firmware.. there is no use to you have latest firmware.. it is much worse and adds nothing to SL. it was to help lion and failed miserably.
If you keep having the issue.. plug the TC into the Macbook.. with no other connections but the ethernet to LAN port of the TC. Turn off airport in the Macbook. Press and hold the reset for 10sec until the LED flashes rapidly .. then rename the TC and wireless.. use short names. no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.. (which is more for SMB issues true enough).
Fix and lock the wireless channels.. fix the wireless security to WPA2 Personal with passkey of 8-12 characters pure alphanumeric.
The TC disk should have no issues now but if you do, go to the file sharing page and turn on the guest account and give read and write access.. Still got issues then the hard disk could have failed.. look at the log.
