Time capsule cannot connect to internet

Hi,
I had just purchase the time capusle(the model they have in stores now) and am trying to use my time capsule as my wifi router but failed.
Here's how it works now, internet-->modem--(LAN)-->Buffalo routerWZR-HP-G302H--(LAN)-->Time Capsule
and how I want it to work internet-->modem--(LAN)-->Time Capsule
When I connect the time capsule directly to the modem, and had setup the timecapsule, the airport utility shows that I am not connected to the internet so I checked from my system preference-->network, it says I am connected to wifi. The Airport Utility still shows that I am not connected to internet, orange/amber light for internet and flashing orange/amber light for time capsule.
At first, airport utility says time capsule has internet connection problem and DNS server and the other problem that I cannot remember, but in the end I fix the other two problem and now there's only one left, that is the internet connection. I am not able to connect to the internet no matter how many time I use the system preference-->network and use "Assist Me" to fix the internet connection, which usually works but not this time. I also try it on my ipods, iphones and ipads and they all cannot connect to the internet through wifi but when I connect the LAN to my computer it works perfectly.
Can anyone help me with this probelm? Why can't it connect to the internet?
Thanks in advance

There is some extra info I need.
What modem.. make and model..?? What kind of broadband?
How is the Buffalo setup? Is it router or bridged and if router is it using pppoe?
There is nothing wrong with keeping the buffalo .. it is a very reasonable router.. and just use the TC in bridge plugged into it..
I have to confess I really dislike the airport utility v6 in Mountain Lion.. it is a kiddie toy version of the real v5 utility. Half your problems relate to the near to useless nature of the utility.
Can you install 5.6 and then we can get somewhere.
Here is howto..
How to load 5.6 into ML.
1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
2. Download and install unpkg.
http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

A "clicking noise" is often a sign that a hard drive is malfunctioning. Suggest that you power down the device and take it to an Apple store to have them take a look, or contact Customer Service at Apple for instructions.

  • Time Capsule Not connecting to internet

Hello. So recently I received a new iMac for Christmas and knowing that my wireless network is setup with MAC address filtering, I used my working laptop to connect to both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to add the iMac to the network. That worked and my iMac has been able to connect to the network no problem.
Let me explain what my network setup is before I tell about the problem:
I have the latest generation Airport Extreme (Dual Band II) and a first generation Time Capsule (1TB).
The Airport Extreme is connected to the internet by cable modem and the Airport is the main router sharing a single IP address.
I connected the Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme through Ethernet and set it up automatically with Airport Utility to extend over ethernet.
Now up untill now, I had no problems but since I got my iMac, I haven't been able to ever get a list of the Airport devices connected to the network, while connected to the Time Capsule, however, when connected to the Airport Extreme 5GHz network, I'm having no problems.
And today, the Time Capsule wouldn't connect to the internet over wifi, and all other devices wouldn't either. Of course, I tried to connect to the base station, but Airport Utility wouldn't display any devices connected. This happened with my MacBook as well.
Since connecting to the 5GHz network from the Airport Extreme, I have no problems with internet or Airport Utility. After a while though, the Time Capsule connected to the internet again.
Would someone shed some light on the situation?

I normally use the manual setup mode so I'm not sure what exactly is the end-state when choosing to extend a wireless network with the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet.
I am guessing that the AirPort Utility configured the TC as a bridge to allow the AEBSn to still provide both NAT & DHCP services for all wired or wireless clients connected to either router.
Let's start by double-checking some settings on your TC. Please provide the following TC settings from the AirPort Utility:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Time Capsule > Wireless
    o Wireless Mode = ?
o Allow this network to be extended = checked or unchecked?
    o Radio Mode = ?
    o Radio Channel Selection = ?
    Time Capsule > Access Control
    o MAC Address Access Control = ?

    o Connection Sharing = ?

  • My Time Capsule WiFi connection and internet connection issue

My Time Capsule WiFi connection to other devices works fine, but for some reason it can not connect to the internet only when "it feels like it",it will go in and out showing that its connect (green dot on airport utilities) then literaly the next second it disconnected (showing a yellow dot on airport utility) and it does that continuesly sometimes it stops doing for a couple of hours. I basically did every thing like reseting it, unplugging wait for what ever time, and it still does the same thing. i do have ethernet cable connect to the Time Capsule. Also sometimes my airport utilities say it cant find my Time Capsule (rarely) . So obviously i dont have a clue whats going on. PLEASE HELP

You have an issue with the local network. Pings to your local network device should be in the order of 5-10ms tops..
Look at your first line.. 2293ms that is over 2sec for the local router to respond.. but it is likely that little box that is the problem. You will get some websites simply time out if they take that long to respond.
Let me recommend you either get some help from ATT or get a local technician to fix it. There are other better ways to connect things.. in the end getting it cabled with ethernet is the best. Buy a long long ethernet cable if you want to have a test.. so you can plug the TC into the modem. Bypass the HPNA over cable slug.

  • I took my laptop on vacation and it says the computer cannot find the time capsule cannot connection; the wireless still works.  How do I get it to reconnect

I had my MacBook Pro running Mt Lion OS X 10.8.3 disconnected from my Time Capsule, gen4 for a month.  Upon returning, I get the message that my computer cannot connect to the Time Capsule for backup.  It does however, pick up the wireless internet.  How do I reconnect for backup?

Just pretend you are setting it up for the first time, and follow the directions here:

  • Time capsule cannot find the internet

I have been using a prior Time Capsule (flat square 2 Tb).  Recently I've had intermittent problems connecting to Time Capsule.  After resetting it would would again  work briefly then the Time Capsule would be lost from the wireless connection to my MacBook Pro using Yosemite.  I suspected a hard drive issue and decided to upgrade.
I purchased the latest Time Capsule 3 Tb (ME2LL/A) to increase backup capacity and hopefully faster wireless transfer.
I disconnected the old and plugged in the new.  I was unable to connect to the internet.  I know the ethernet from the modem is working.  It can be directly connected to the computer and all is well.  All I get on the Time Capsule is a blinking yellow light.  I have done multiple resets without a connection.  Thinking I may have a defective unit, I returned it for exchange.  The same problem occurred as with the firs unit  It cannot connect to the internet.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

Yosemite is a cause of pain and suffering.
First things first can we simply bypass Yosemite.. at least do the setup with another computer .. non-yosemite. An iphone or ipad using airport utility for iOS is actually superior by far cf airport utility now in Mac OS. It seems to have far less hassles.
Start with a full factory reset of the TC.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Tell us then if you are forced to use Yosemite what is happening.
When you open the airport utility it should show an airport that needs configuration.
Make sure wireless is on and make sure the new device shows under the wifi icon in the top menu area.
Make sure you set ipv6 to link-local only for whatever connection you use.
I do recommend if you run into trouble and have no luck plus no ipad/iphone available.
Do it manually. Fully manual instructions using ethernet.. here.
Airport Utility shows "unexpected error - please try again" when connecting to Time Capsule

  • Time capsule wifi connection to internet?

I just installed my new 2TB Time capsule. I bought it mainly to do Time Machine (previously on another hard drive) and to store movies and stuff.
I also thought I'd use it to set up my home network for printing and access to files from other machines.
I now find to my dismay that it does not connect to my broadband server by wifi (as does my iMac, iPhone and MB Air) and it has to have an ethernet cable connection. However, my office is upstairs and my broadband router is downstairs so a single ethernet cable solution is out of the question.
So I can continue to connect to my internet server via wifi from the computers.
And I can have a home network but it will remain independent from the internet (with no special guest network).
    Question:
    1) Am I correct in my understanding of the situation?
    2) Is there a way around this? Like using an Airport Extreme Base (but do they still exist)?
    3) Maybe I need a very long ethernet cable
Thanks for putting me straight on this one
    Best regards
    Christopher

In the last para, you lost me with "set static IP on the computer". Sorry, I'm not sure what this means, what I will gain or how to do it. A bit more of your patience may solve my problem.
If I plug an Airport Exrpess into my server, will that solve all my problems simply (but for another hnudred euros!) by creating the network from there and would the TC be able to join that network for printing?
If you base the network around Apple routers then it will work. That would mean as you say purchasing another router.. although there is nothing stopping you buying a second hand extreme.. maybe a bit cheaper.. but it depends what is available in your market.
In your first post.. you mentioned alternatives.. long ethernet.. yes, that would work. You can also use EOP adapters.. although that would not cost any less than buying another apple router.. it does however remove the double hop wireless and so is generally better.
My other recommended solution is to set static IP address so you can join two networks at once. This is to allow the TC to act as hub for the printer.. but you need to realise there is a limitation here.. only those computers that directly connect to the TC can use it to print or share files and stream to it. I was only thinking  of the office area.. how important is it for the other devices to print. Or use the files on the TC.. which is btw not ideal.. TC is not a file store.. it is a backup target for Time Machine.
Nevertheless it might be possible to get this working. You would need to route through one of the computers to the TC.. is that possible..?? Then the computer can share the resources to the rest of the network.

  • Time Capsule not connecting to internet properly

I have recently purchased a Time Capsule 2TB to replace a 4 year old Airport Extreme Base Station.
The Airport Extreme has been working perfectly fine in my wi-fi network, however, once I replaced it with the Time Capsule, the internet has not been working properly. Both the internet and time capsule will have 'green' light indicating they are working properly, but now when I visit certain websites, the connection will time out, not load etc whereas some sites work fine. This problem exist across all the devices I connect via wi-fi using the network created by TC.
When I changed it back to the airport extreme base station, everything works perfectly again.
I am not sure what the problem is and how to rectify it!
Is it something to do with the ethernet cable?
Is it to do with settings?
Is it a problem with the TC itself?
Thanks for any advice and suggestions!

What kind of broadband do you have?
What is the modem and how does the TC connect.. how did the AE connect??
Is the modem also a router?
Are you experiencing double NAT.. the TC should give a warning message.
Give a screen shot of the summary page on the AE when it is connected and one from the TC.
One thing.. if you have a cable modem.. did you power off the modem and power on again.. to release and renew the MAC address of the first connected device..
Sometimes you need to power off for 15min sometimes less.. sometimes more..

  • Time capsule cant connect to internet

My Time capsule has recently stopped working (yellow flashing light) when it cant assign an ip address. I checked Airport utilities and now it has no ip address and cant find dns server. The problem with losing ip address has happened before and was resolved by restarting the modem. I've tried another router and its fine so my modem is ok. This time my time capsule dont want to work with the modem. Its stuck and cant connect to internet. I've restarted the TC but it didnt help so now Im pretty clueless. Any advice woyld be appreciated.

Ok, when the simple stuff doesn't work you need a lot more analysis.
    1. Plug a computer direct to the modem.. does the modem give you internet? (are we talking cable?? what internet?)
Once you clear the modem is working.. then the issue is purely the TC.
    2. You didn't make clear if you followed the instructions I gave.. I want you to plug in the TC to a computer by ethernet. Lan port to the computer ethernet. Turn off wireless on the computer.. disconnect all other network connections on the TC. Press and hold reset until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Can you now access the TC?
If not it is likely dead ..
If you can make sure it is in router mode.. plug the modem into the TC wan port.. for cable you will have to power cycle the modem.. this can take a while.. 15min depending on your ISP.
Reboot everything.. and check if the TC has picked up a public IP on wan.. if not it has failed on wan side.
If the TC is dead.. or just as a means of testing.. get another router and plug it in. Substitution is the best test method.
Exactly how old and what model is the TC?
If it is Gen 3, A1355 try leaving it off overnight and restart the next day.. test immediately from cold. They have several board issues.
Or if the TC is newer and you have existing warranty or applecare let apple fix it.

  • Time capsule not connecting to internet after firmware 7.6.4 upgrade

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me, I updated my 4th gen time capsule to the latest firmware yesterday and post the update my TC was telling me that there was no internet or DNS.
After tralling the internet (using my iPhone and 3G) I eventually did a hard rest of my TC, put all my PPoE details in, wireless network details in and still I got the same error messages on the TC.
Thinking that this could be a PPoE error I plugged an old router in, did the PPoE setting and the internet is working just fine, which leads me to beleive that this is purely a firmware issue on the TC post my upgrade to 7.6.4.
I then decided to downgrade to a previous firmware however this seems to be impossible on my TC using airport utility. I dont have the drop down menu in my airport utility aplication to do a dowgrade, infact these is no option button at all (so I cant hold it down as suggested in other posts).
I am currently running OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion), Airport Utility 6.3.1, TC 7.6.4.
If anyone can help me resolve this issue or tell me how to downgrade the software I would be extremly gratefull! Also note I am not a techie at all, just learnt what a PPoE was!!!
    Thank you.

Please do a factory reset.. it is more complete than hard reset.
The Factory Reset TC Gen1-4. Or AE Gen1-5
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
In the airport utility.. plug it in by ethernet..
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local in both wireless and ethernet on the computer.
Then simply hold down the option key whilst you click on version.. downgrade to 7.6.1  as the last two firmware are hopeless.

  • Time Capsule cannot connect via PPPoe when MacBook Pro can.

I used to connect to the internet using my TC as a router, connecting via PPPoE using a DSL modem.
While my ISP had a problem with their network, the TC stop connecting to the PPPoE host and the amber light kept blinking. Because this was taking too long, I decided to investigate this issue.
I tried connecting my laptop directly to the modem, the restored my original configuration.
My MacBook Pro connected via ethernet to the DSL modem, is able to connect to the internet using a PPPoE connection. When I try the same via the TC, it just doesn't connect!
What should I do to troubleshoot this?
Is it possible that it is related to my ISP? Even though the laptop manages to connect via PPPoE.
Even the DSL modem when switched to router functionality is able to connect via PPPoE.
Only the TC seems to fail. What could be the problem?
(I have ruled out incorrect passwords and faulty wiring...)

  • HELP? Time Capsule cannot connect!

HI, this was going so well for one week. Today TC is not seen by Airport Utility at all, and TM does not see it as a backup disk, so where did everything go? OMG, I just backed up about 300GB to the TC and I cannot access anything. I unplugged and plugged for a reboot, I have not reset back to factory settings- won't I lose everything?
    Thanks for anyone's help! Julie

Well if you've completed your initial backup, which from your first post you said was about 300GB, then the capacity arithmetic isn't too far off.
You can look at the contents by mounting the TC disk by cliking on it in Shared in Finder, then double click the TC's disk name.
You see a file called yourComputerName_someHexDigits.sparsebundle. If you get info on it it will eventually compute the size. (There are a couple of hidden files on the TC disk but they normally are a few K bytes at most.)
The sparse bundle is your backup.
If the size of it and the reported free space don't add up to 463.8 and you haven't placed other files on the disk then we need to look further.
Let us know what you see.

We cannot help with that amount of info..
What internet type and modem do you have? Exact modem make and model may help.
Is the linksys router also the modem? You do know there is no modem in the TC?
How is the Linksys authenticating if it is plugged into the modem??
If cable did you shut down the cable modem for at least 20min to change the router.. this is always required with cable system.. often the time is longer.. one hour or overnight even.

  • How to connect my time capsule & macbook to the internet?

I purchased a Time Capsule last weekend to back up all my photos etc.  I was able to set up the Time Capsule with Airport Utility and now have my home network set up, I can easily get everything I need on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009, Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 if that helps?) EXCEPT I can't get the time capsule to connect to the internet.  For some reason whenever I want to access my pictures or the time capsule, I have to connect to the wireless network but if I want to connect to the internet I have to reconnect to my old wireless network.  I have tried everything but just can't get it to work correctly! The Time Capsule light has only ever flashed orange at me...

time capsule should be in bridge mode and plugged into your main router so it is part of the existing network.
Bridge on you Lion version is easy as you can still download and install a real utility.

  • I receive a not connected to the internet message several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via cable modem.. When I input my password to enter network preferences, the connection re-establishes.

I receive a "not connected to the internet message" several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via a cable modem. Software/firmware is up to date on the iMac (OSX 10.6.8)  and Tme Capsule(7.5.2). Browser is Safari 5.1.
When I input my password at the prompt to enter network preferences, all the lights go green (ie... ethernet, ISP etc.) and the connection re-establishes immediately and states "the connection appears to be working normally".
It more of a nuisance than anything and seems to have started ocurring over the past couple of months. I also have a windows XP box also connected to the same cable modem that I never have internet connectivity issues with. I've verified all the physical aspects of the connections and can't see any evidence of any actual drops in the modem logs. I suspect it is just an intermittent communication loss between the Imac and the Time Capsule, but I am not very familiar with Mac equipment yet.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem and what you did (if anything) to resolve it?
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.
