Time Capsule connected to internet via ethernet and static IP address

Hi! I'm at my wits end and getting no help from my IT department. I want to use my Time Capsule to create a wireless network within my office. I can directly connect my TC to the internet via ethernet and an assigned static IP address. However, doing so I'm unable to connect to the internet using the created wireless network on my laptop. I've tried using the bridge option for sharing as well as the "sharing an IP address" and neither configuration is working. any thoughts?

I have the same setup; my ISP uses static IP only. No probs configuring a LinkSys router but with TC it's not obvious where to plug in the info. Can't ping the TC router via IP address to setup directly like the LinkSys which would be simple. Is the out of box router address really 10.0.1.1 on the LAN side? I want to use the 192.168 sequence and have changed it but still no success as I can't determine where to put the static IP! Can you give me something specific? By the way, it works fine thru the LinkSys router in Bridge mode.
Thanks,

I don't have a DSL or cable modem to access the Internet ... just a mobile WiFi (there is no cable available at our house and the mobile WiFi is our only option). How do I connect my Time Capsule to the Internet via the mobile WiFi?

    LOL!!
I am in Australia and the ISP... I think both the main ones would fit your description to a T.. big T in particular.
Your router is really unsuitable.. if it is only wireless and no ethernet.. just buy an ethernet one.
Do a search on ebay.. 3g router.
But you can get the TC to join a wireless network.
It is a non-standard setup that Apple will not support.. the option is hidden.
If you are on Lion download the 5.6 utility. Go to the wireless set up page and hold down the option key whilst selecting wireless mode.. a new option, join will appear. You can then put in the ssid and passkey of the 3g router.
But please note the end result of this setup..
very slow speed. The TC is now a second wireless hop from your clients.. this will halve the speed.
In this mode the ethernet are deactived.. for reasons only Apple know, they decided you should not use ethernet when doing this.

  • Connecting a powerbook G3 to the internet via ethernet and a DSL modem. Does the G3 have the ability to do this?

I am trying to connect an older powerbook G3 (M4753) to the internet via ethernet and a DSL modem. Does the G3 have the ability to do this? I'm having alot of trouble. G3 Dialog box states the DHCP server will populate IP address, etc. It does not. The G3 also insists I enter the DHCP client ID.

  • Can't connect to Internet via ethernet

I have two brand new 11" MacBook Airs.  I can connect to the internet via ethernet on one and not the other.  I little back story...
I previously had two 13" MacBook Pros and had the same issue – one could connect to the internet via ethernet and one couldn't.  I used migration assistant when I upgraded to the new MBAs, so I believe I carried over a setting from the previous "problem" comuter to the new one.  Interestingly, both of my MacBook Pros connected to the internet via ethernet just fine until, for reasons unknown to me, one day one would no longer work.
When I look at diagnostics, the lights are (from top to bottom): green, yellow, green, red, red
Is it possible to revert some ethernet networking setting to factory?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
    Caanan

The same thing has happened to me, it just stopped working. No, I've had this problem for a long time with this machine, but the other day I was downloading some large files, and all the files dropped down to nothing, internet was gone.
It will connect to Wireless, but now I'm even having problems with that.
If I plug in the Ethernet cable but set it to use AirPort, it won't find the web. I have to unplug the cable and it will use AirPort -- not good when I need to access hard drives! It had been working with it plugged in, but it just stopped. (I don't know if it was using the Ethernet or the AirPort at the time.) I wasn't messing with any settings at the time.
Tried restarting, running diagnostics, using different browsers, various websites, didn't help.
    It's a MacBook 2,1 -- 2.0 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo -- 10.4.11
I have a G4, same OS, using the same router, same settings, everything. G4 works perfectly.

  • "Connected to internet via Ethernet" ... but won't work

Looks like I have it set up correctly. Says "Connected to internet via Ethernet", yet I am getting absolutely no internet. Where have I gone wrong?
Oddly enough, it even says this when there is no ethernet cable plugged into it and is blinking amber.
    What is going on?

Assuming you have a cable or DSL modem cabled to the Airport Express ethernet port... pull power to both the modem and the Airport Express for five minutes (or up to thirty minutes if you can stand it). Then plug power into the modem and wait a minute. Then plug power into the Airport Express and wait a minute. Hopefully your connection with your ISP will now have reset, and the Airport Express will get an IP address and show a solid green status light.

  • Can't Connect to Internet via Ethernet Cable.

    Hi
I've looked around but haven't found anyone with exactly this problem. I can't get my MacBook Pro to connect to the internet via ethernet at my dorm. I am on the same connection with the same cable on a different computer right now, so I know that is not the problem. When I plug the cable in to my MacBook Pro it tells me that the cable IS connected, but when I try to go on a site on either Safari or Firefox, it takes a couple minutes trying and then tells me that I don't have a connection. I guess the problem lies somewhere between the connection and the browser. I am using DHCP (I don't know what that means but that's the default and other posts have said to make sure that that's what one is using) and the "connect using PPPoE" box is not checked. My ip starts out 192 etc. so I assume it isn't self-assigned. I WOULD LOVE ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER.
I just got back to school today and this is already making this semester pretty awful.

I am having the same issue. Everything was working hunky-dory but then just up and stopped. The Airport works ok, but considering I am leeching off someone else's across the hall, that is not the most reliable solution.
In my Network Diagnostics, the Ethernet connection is given a green light, but the it seems unable to find the internet at all.
I have reset the router several times, restarted my computer several times, and various combinations of the two, as well as changing ports and cables etc...
    any suggestions?

  • IMac G5 won't connect to internet via Ethernet

So i have an iMac G5 that isn't connecting to the internet via ethernet.
I have already taken a look through all the Network Preferences, tried going through the network port configurations and setting all of that up again, created a new location for it.
I tried turning off the modem, and letting it restart - restarted the iMac - tried to set up all of these settings again.
I also created a test user account to see if it would work there - still nothing.
I hooked my own 17" MacBook Pro to it and it works perfectly. I never had to go through any settings on mine - it just worked as soon as i plugged the Ethernet cable in.
So the modem itself works - because my computer works. What else could be the problem?
I went through the Network Diagnostics on hers - all green dots and it says that the internet connection is working perfectly. It gives me an IP address - but it still won't load a webpage, and it tells me there that i am not connected to the internet. I am all out of ideas.
If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

    What OS you using? 10.5?
My memory of 10.5 is fading so you may need to figure out the vague instructions.
To make this easier to type Macbook Pro =  MBP
When testing disable wifi & use ethernet on both machines.
Are both set to use DHCP? Or are you using manual settings?
Compare the IP addresses of the MBP & the iMac when they both use ethernet.
Compare the subnet masks too just to be sure nothing is different.
Does the iMac do any local networking at all? (e.g. is iTunes or File sharing visible on it). see *
Does it see the MBP in the sharing sidebar or can it connect to anything on the local network?
Have you connected the MBP to the iMac using the exact same cable that the iMac connects to the router?
Does the MBP work if connected to the router using the iMacs ethernet cable?
    * You will need to enable file sharing to see the shared Mac in the sidebar (or have mother service shared). Enable it in System Preferences > Sharing whilst you test.
If you are have local networking in a functional state it could be…
DNS - what is the iMac DNS set to on each Mac?
Are either of them showing a grey DNS entry in System Preferences > Network? That means the router is supplying that info.

  • Can't connect to internet via router and airtunes at the same time

Can anyone help me connect to the internet via my BT Homehub, and play AirTunes through my Airport base station at the same time? I can only seem to do one at a time.
I've seen the articles about setting up clients etc but don't get it. Using the Airport Assistant utilty doesn't really help either. Would like someone to go through the steps I need to follow.
    Thanks

To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility to check these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    - Wireless Network: <select your BT Homehub wireless network>
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
    - Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    - iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    - iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    - Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Connected to internet via ethernet but server not responding

I have browsed some threads on this topic but none gave me an answer, and my set up is not quite the same as those that I've read. I don't want to hijack another thread and confuse the readers. I would be very grateful for help on this issue.
I have connected a G3 imac to a G5 imac with ethernet cable and both are configured for file sharing following the instrauctions on this help site. Both machines communicate and file sharing is okay.
Now I want to share the dial-up internet connection of the G3 with G5 over this ethernet connection. I have configured both machines following instructions on this site. At the moment file and web sharing is enabled on both machines.
In sharing preferences/internet internet sharing is turned on on the host (the one connected to the internet)
In sharing/firewall personal web-sharing is checked on both machines
In built-in-ethernet/TCP/IP config IPv4 is off on both, although i have tried it with IPv4 set to using DHCP on the host, and then on both
    No proxies are set
I have tried it with Appletalk both on and off on both machines
In network status internal modem is at the top of the list on the host and ethernet is at the top on the guest and both say that they are connected to the internet. The ethernet appears as connected to the internet with green light even when the host computer is not connected to the internet.
Yesterday I was able to browse using IE in windows XP running on virtual PC on the guest (G5) but this is the only time it's worked and I don't know what i did for that to happen. I only wanted to run a software activation on the G5 but the message unable to establish a connection appears.
I followed the help in virtual PC to share the Macs internet connection with windows, but havn't been able to connect to internet using the browsers on the OS X system. Tried altering browser preferences as well with no joy.
Everything works fine on the G3
I don't know where to go next.

  • Time Capsule Not Allowing Internet On iPhone and Apple TV

I have a Time Capsule (3rd Generation), an iMac, a MacBook Air, an iPhone 4, an iPad and an Apple TV (2nd Generation).
My Time Capsule is the provider for my Wi-Fi in the house, and I've only just set it up. The iPad, Air and iMac all work perfectly, but I have trouble with the Apple TV and the iPhone. They both let me connect to the network, but I'm unable to get any Internet signal on either. I've found that I can work around this by defining a static IP for each, but I hit problems when I leave the house with the iPhone, I have to then give it another IP address for it to work.
    Has anybody any suggestions as to why it;
    a) Won't automatically connect to the Internet and I have to give a static IP
    b) Whenever I leave the house it makes me have to forget the network, reassign an IP and start again.
I also have two Windows PCs that work perfectly, and my girlfriend has an iPhone 3GS that can connect easily.
    Thanks in advance!

As the original poster, I too had issues with my iPhone 4 (4.2.1) and Apple TV 2 playing nice. The Airplay icon was visible for music, and worked perfectly. However, when watching a video, purchased through iTunes, only the "audio" option would be selectable for Airplay. After updating the Apple TV software, everything works perfectly well. When watching a video on my iPhone and selecting the Airplay icon, one of the options is to play "video" through the Apple TV, not simply audio.
It would have been nice to know that my Apple TV needed an update when I updated my iPhone 4 to 4.2.1.

  • Connecting to internet via windows and airport extreme

I have an imac with a security enabled airport extreme base station. When I startup in Windows via bootcamp and try to connect to the internet I don't know how to enter the network password. Windows sees the network and prompts for a password but my password does not work. Does anyone know what the windows OS is looking for?

  • Difficulty connecting to internet via ethernet

Cannot connect to internet. Cable from router (which is okay, as I have an iMac hooked up to it and it works as does my Apple TV2) connects to iBook. Clieck on sys prefs.network: have green light next built in ethernet. Screen says: Connected: Built-in ethernet has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect. Click on Assist me> diagnostics: get green for ethernet, yellow for network settings, and red for all the rest.
(Tried another ethernet cable at a whole different location and same thing, would not connect.)
Have reset/reboot router and computer, no change.
Have tried an unused IP address from the router. Says I am connected, but when I try software update or Firefox, am not connected.
Recently upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5, used to work ok in 10.4
    Thanks
    Rick

Hi Another user did not help. Had a backed up 10.5.8 from my iMac on an external drive (that was bootable). Booted iBook off of it and now iBook connects with internet okay.
So I earase iBook and copied basic parts from external drive to iBook with car copy cloner. (Would have used 10.5 install disk but misplaced). iBook boots okay, but has a lot of stuff on it I don't need on the iBook
    Thanks

  • Why won't my Time Capsule connect the internet to my computer

Recently moved office.  Disconnected time capsule from modem from prior office which worked fine.  Connected to new modem and won't work.  Computer shows capsule connected but won't connect internet

Always start with a full factory reset and redo the setup.. The TC remembers too much of its previous setup.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • Time Capsule Connectivity Problem with Airport Utility and Mavericks

I have a Time Capsule from 2011 which worked perfectly with my IMac and Airport Utility 5.6.1 but since the upgrade to Mavericks, I cannot get it to work with Airport Utility. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

What does not work?  Can you open up AirPort Utility and  take us through the steps? What happens after each step?

  • Macbook Pro cannot connect to Internet via Ethernet / Cosmetic Issues

My Wireless Router died last night, so I connected my PC Desktop directly to the Modem. It worked like a charm.
I then decided to connect my MacBook Pro (2.4GHZ, OS X 10.5.3) to the Modem and...it didn't work. I tried going into the network settings (turning off the AirPort Card, moving the Ethernet to the top of the list, etc.) and I still could not get it to work.
Aside from taking it in, is there anything that I can do to try to remedy the situation, maybe a setting that I've missed? Also, there is a tiny ding on front of the bottom case. Can I get it fixed if I have the "Accidental Insurance?"

Was the MBP working when you had the router?
Also, did you power cycle the modem when you switched machines?  Most cable modems remember the ethernet MAC address of the computer that was last connected to it, and will not permit another machine to connect until the unit is fully power cycled (turned off and back on).  This is to enforce network provider policies of one computer at a time per account.  (Most ISPs want extra money for extra machines.)  The reason you can use multiple machines with a router is because the router performs some special functions to make multiple machines appear as a single machine to the outside world.
