Time Capsule connection cycle & not found in airport utility

Hi all,
Multiple TC problems. I have a TC, and an AE on a network (TC as core, AE as extender). The network is fine on my MB and MBP, but my PC gets disconnected every 20 minutes, which is infuriating. Also my Airport utility cannot see my time capsule, even though it must be working (my wifi is fine, and its the primary).
The firmware on my AE is up to date, and I updated that when I last updated the TC, so I assume they are both the same.
Any suggestions? should I just return it?
Thanks in advance for help!

Similar problem, I have had my TC replaced, same issue with new one, it goes offline but is still delivering internet.
I can ALWAYS access my 2 other airport expresses, but daily the TC becomes unable to access from Airport utility. It shows up but fails reading TC config. I reboot the TC and all is well for a day at most. I can ping the TCs ip when this is happening and the TC continues PPPoe to fiber connection.
I have downgraded the firmware upgraded it again, went to default settings... nothing makes a difference. I checked all cables and switches they all seem fine.

  • Time Capsule connected but not visible in Airport Utility

    Hi there,
My Time Capsule is visible in the finder windows as a drive, I am connected to it, and it is my link to Internet, it is visible from my wife's iMac in the next room, but it won't appear in the Airport utility (I can see only the two Air Port Extreme that are in other parts of the house for remote speakers).
All this is done within the same network as far as I know, so I don't see where the problem comes from.
In fact I want to access my TC configuration in order to get back the password needed for my wife to connect to it.

If you can temporarily connect your computer to the Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, you should be able to see it in AirPort Utility.
In fact I want to access my TC configuration in order to get back the password needed for my wife to connect to it.
Until you can resolve the AirPort Utility issue, you may be able to recover that password with the Keychain Access utility.

  • TIme  capsule is orange, not present in Airport Utility,

    Hi
I have been using my time capsule for backing up but today it is not present in Airport Utiltity, it is flashing orange as well.
Airport utility is searching for it but there's a message stating "no configured airport base stations have been found. airport utility will continue searching".
Under System preference >  TIme Machine > it states "back disc is not available" and when I click 'Select Disk', it is present under the heading "Backup Discs" but the only available button is "Remove Disk".  And, if I try to search for a new one, it cannot find it.
I would be very grateful if you would kindly help me.  I have tried switch the TC on and off at the wall, but this did not help…..Have checked with cable and all see ok.
    Thank you

How old and what model is the TC?
Have you checked in other devices.. ipad or iphone etc to see if the TC is running ok? Use the airport utility for iOS if you have igadgets.
Otherwise what OS is on the computer? Did you recently upgrade or update? 10.9.4 just went out and may cause some issues.
I have tried switch the TC on and off at the wall, but this did not help…..Have checked with cable and all see ok.
Excellent start. A full network reboot is also in order. Restart the whole network thusly.
    modem.. wait 2min..
    TC.. wait 2min..
    rest of the stuff.
Everything must boot from off, not sleep/standby.
    No luck. Follow these steps.
    1. Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Ensure ipv6 is turned on to link-local in the computer for both wireless and ethernet if you use it.
    eg wireless.
    3. Go to the airport utility. (or via the wifi icon in the top menu area). It will show a device ready for setup.
    Run through the setup wizard.
Please do not use the proffered names. eg Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule (Wireless)
It is far too long.. it has spaces and it has illegal apostrophe.
Please use a base station name like TCgenx (I fill in x with the actual generation).. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Please use a wireless name like TCwifi (I use TC24ghz and TC5ghz to keep the bands separate).
    Complete the Wizard.
    4. See if you can now mount the TC hard disk in Finder. If it fails, do it manually.
In the top menu  Go> Connect to Server.
Type in AFP://TCgenx.local (Replace with your actual name. Local is the domain name and can help)
    or
Type in AFP://10.0.1.1 (replace with the TC actual IP address .. that is the default when TC is router. This will only work when static though).
It will request your password. Type that in and store in the keychain.
    5. Reset TM and point it to the newly named TC.
See A4 here for more details.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Do not worry if it shows it is going to start the whole backup. It will find the old backup once it starts. Nothing you are doing here will mess the original backups.
You are just correcting certain weaknesses is the network standards.
No luck post back with as much detail as possible.. modem, how the TC is connected to modem and computer, computer type and OS etc.

  • HT3728 When I reconnect my Time Capsule after a factory reset, the Airport Utility shows ther message"Unexpected error. Try again." I also get this if I redo the factory reset.

The Time Capsule is not providing a wireless connection.
When I reconnect my Time Capsule after a factory reset, the Airport Utility shows ther message"Unexpected error. Try again." I also get this if  I cancel the Airport Utility app and restart it. I performed the factory reset again, restarted the Airport Utility and received the same error. What are the steps to debug and fix the wireless problem?
My Time Capsule is connected to my FIOS router and to my Mac Mini. I am still able to connect to the Internet from the Mini via ethernet. It seems that the Time Capsule acts as a bridge for the ethernet connections between Internet to FIOS, FIOS to Time Capsule, and Time Capsule to Mac Mini.

Which model TC is this? The A1xxx number from the base please.
Try the setup in full isolation from the network.. so unplug the TC from the network.. and turn off wireless in the mini.. so you have mini--ethernet--lan port TC.. and nothing else.
    Do the factory reset.
Now check if TC comes up in airport utility..
If it fails, turn on ipv6 local link.. if you are using 6.3 utility this could be necessary.
Still fails, try loading the v5 utility.. you will need to plug the computer back into the FIOS to get internet. Then depending on OS.. Lion according to your profile.. you can just down the utility.. ML takes more steps.
    See below.
Do you have an iphone or ipad.. download the airport utility app and use those for the setup.. that can sometimes work better.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Time Capsule not found in airport utility

I have a 2nd gen time capsule that is having some difficulties.  It seems like it has been since the latest (7.6.1) update.
After a while, my wireless clients cannot connect to it, and it won't show up in the AirPort utility.  If I power cycle it, it shows up again, and clients can connect.
When it isn't listed, the light on it is still green.
It ALSO seems that the time machine can back up to it still .
    Any ideas?

It may help to power cycle the entire network if you have not already done so. This will get everything back in the right sequence on your network.
Just power everything off in any order that you want
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a minute by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Keep starting devices one at a time a minute apart until everything is powered back up

  • Time capsule base station not working with Airport Express

    Hi...
I have a network setup using the airport base station hat is part of my (older) time capsule.  I also have an older Airport Express.
My network is working fine...and looks like the first image below.  When I plug in the Airport Express and reset it...I get what you see on the second image.  The thing is...the airport utility is supporting the base station just fine prior to looking for the airport.  I presently have airport utility 6.3.2 and my airport base station has firmware 7.6.4.
    Any help would be great....thanks!

Your express is a G wireless model and not compatible with the N wireless TC.
You can use it but only by using it with ethernet and setting it up as AP.. you also need to use 5.6 utility not v6.. apple removed support for G wireless devices from v6.
    LOL..
    I was 2min late.

  • Trying to set up time capsule but keep getting message stating airport utility was unable to find any airport wireless device. What do I do know?

Trying to set up my time capsule on my imac.
Keep getting message "Airport utility was unable to find any airport wireless devices."
    What do I do now?

When having difficulties accessing the Time Capsule (TC) via the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the utility after each step:
Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the TC wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the TC's LAN ports.
Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the base station.
Finally, if you are attempting to access the TC via an Ethernet connection, be sure that your Ethernet port is NOT configured for Jumbo Frames, i.e., using an MTU of 9000+.

  • AEBSn not found in airport utility, light flashing amber

The title pretty much sums it up. I can go directly from my DSL modem to my G5 ethernet port and my internet works. But going through the AEBSn does not. The light just flashes amber and airport utility can't find it.
It did go green when I first started using it but after it did the 5.2.1 software update, the base station seems messed up. Resetting using the pin hole in the back didn't work.
    Any suggestions? thanks!

    vasteven wrote:
I plugged the modem ethernet into the LAN outlet in the back of the TC
I'm not sure what you mean by that. First, the Ethernet cable from your broadband modem should be connected to the WAN port on the TC. Second, there are three LAN outlets on the back of a TC, so I'm not sure what you mean by "the LAN outlet".
The Network can now connect to the Airport with a full 4 bar fan in the icon - so far so good. In Airport Utility the Time Capsule now shows up in the sidebar - another promising sign. Then I click on it and hit Manual Setup and I get the message "Airport Utility cannot find airport device". When I close that window the AU goes into a never-ending "Reading the Time Capsule configuration" message loop and never opens the Time Capsule's settings.
Sorry. I've seen people complain of such things, but I haven't seen anyone suggest a good way to fix it.
I'd first straighten out any problems with your Ethernet cable wiring.

  • Airport express not found by airport utility

I have set up plenty of Airport devices in my other house.  When I tried to add an AirPort Express to an AirPort Extreme, the AirPort Utility cannot find the Express nor will the Express light go green. Suggestions???

Whoohoo! This finally worked for me!
I had my AX set up in my old apartment and then moved to a new spot. I didn't use it for 6 months and decided to try and set it up this weekend only to see it do nothing but flash amber after I would follow all of the other directions to the letter. Several tries with Airport Utility got me nowhere.
    Here's what worked:
    - plug in stereo cable and ethernet cables to router. I actually used an old pair of headphones so i could test in different places.
    - Do a factory reset (hold reset, plug in, wait for 4 green flashes, release)
    - Use the Airport Admin Utility to set everything up. This includes router name, password, AX name, and all that. Nothing exotic. I'm using WPA2.
    - Let it update.
    - Poof! It works!
    - I then unplugged it and moved it to my living room and tried it again. The AX name comes up in iTunes and music comes through the cable.

  • Airport Express and Time Capsule connection issues

    I have the following setup:
    - Airport Express set up as 'create a wifi network' with the exact same name and password as my main network from my BT router
    - Time Capsule setup to 'join existing network' which is the same name - obvioulsy! - as the other two.
Everything worked OK until fairly recently. My MBP which usually is connected to the AE n/w accessed the TC via Time Machine OK, and my iMac backed up via TM to the TC OK as well.  Now, however, the TC (which is situated in range of both the AE and the main router) seems to connect sometimes to the (weaker) AE and sometimes to the (almost adjacent) main router.
If it connects to the main router network, my iMac backups are OK, but if it connects to the AE network, then TM just fails with the usual 'backup disk cannot be found' even though it is clearly visible in Finder.
Is there anyway of locking the TC into a particular network?

    OK, thanks for the information.
Temporarily, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme to the Time Capsule's WAN port.
Close AirPort Utility 6.1 on the Mac if it is open
Start over by holding in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 9-10 seconds, then allow 60 seconds for it to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme to the WAN port on the Time Capsule
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a minute for the heading of New Apple Base Station to appear. Under that,  click on the Time Capsule.
AirPort Utility will open automatically and take a minute to analyze the connection. After a minute, it will display a message that the network will be configured to "Extend".
Enter a name for the Time Capsule and click Next
AirPort Utility will take another minute to configure everything.  When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
You should now be able to connect to the Time Capsule wireless signal.

  • Time Machine backup disk not found

    Hello,
I have following set-up at home:
    * A BELKIN router in the laundry room
         > This router is connected to the internet via my cable modem
         > This router broadcasts a wireless network, let's call it wifi A, troughout the house
         > This router is connected to 3 wired internet sockets troughout the house
         > This router is functioning perfectly
    * A TIME CAPSULE in the office
         > This time capsule is connected to one of the above mentioned internet sockets
         > This time capsule is used as a hub, router mode is OFF (Bridge mode)
         > This time capsule does not broadcast a wireless network
         > This time capsule connects a printer, a NAS network disk and a Mac Book Pro (via a thunderbolt screen) to the router
    * A Mac Book Pro
         > At home this MBP is always connected to the wired internet, via the tunderbolt screen and the macbook pro
         > Running mountain lion
         > Backups are done regularly via the time capsule, without problems
    * A Mac Book Air (and here is where the problem starts)
         > Running Mountain Lion (although the below problem was already present with Lion also)
         > Always connected to the wifi A network
         > This Mac Book Air is also set up to back up to the time capsule, but here is the problem.
The problem is as follows: when the MBA want's to start the backup, it start's looking for the backup disk, but it can't find the disk. So it cancels the backup. It is very strange, because the Time Capsule itself can be found. If you chose "Select Disk" in the Time Machine Preferences, the time capsule shows up as an option. The time capsule also shows up in the airport utility and in the finder. In the finder, one can even browse to the previously created Sparse Disk Image of the backup on the time capsule.
If I want to make a backup, I have to do one of the following:
    * Connect the MBA wired to the timecapsule via the thunderbolt screen.
    * Set Up a wireless network via the timecapsule, wifi B, and connect the MBA to this network. Extending the wifi A network does not solve the problem!
Anybody has a solution for this problem?
    Jan
PS Replacing my Belkin Router with the time capsule is not an option. The router is located in the laundry room (since this is where the cable connection is coming in) and I don't want to place a backup hard drive in this damp room. Also having the wifi broadcasted only by the time machine is not an option since it does not even cover half the living area.

thought I had a solution, but had misread your post... sorry

  • Problem with Time Capsule connection to Verizon Fios modem.

I recently switched to Verizon Fios service. I connected my Time Capsule into the Verizon modem and since then the Time Capsule light has blinked Amber.
Is there anything unique to the Verizon Fios Modem that is causing the Time Capsule to blink Amber?
    Thanks

run airport utility, it should tell you why the light is blinking amber. In all likelihood, it is because you have double NAT. turn off NAT in your time capsule. you may also want to access your verizon router using 192.168.1.1 and turn off the wireless radio. no need to have two wireless networks pumping out signals. while in the router settings, you can lower the firewall too, assuming you have adequately protected the TC.

After hard reset the time capsule is not found in airport even though i have reconnected in proper order - says backup disc not found

    What version TC.. what firmware??
    What OS on the computer?

  • HT3728 time capsule not connected (not seen in AirPort Utility)

I have recently moved and my Time Capsule does not appear on AirPort Utility just has a flashed amber light. I've tried a factory reset as I have recent upgraded to a second hand MacBook Pro. Some threads suggest a full backup and reinstall of OSx will do the trick but this seems extreme... any other ideas?

    Do this in full isolation..
Plug a LAN port of TC into the MBP by ethernet.. I hope yours has an ethernet port.
Turn off wireless in the MBP.. disconnect anything else from the TC.
Now see if the airport utility can find it.. if nothing.. then do a factory reset of the TC..
ie.. hold in reset before you power on the TC.. keep holding in reset for 10sec after the TC powers on.. three arms or a friend helps if you don't have 3 arms. Hold in reset until the front led flashes rapidly. Then release.
Airport utility will now be able to find the TC..
Set it up as you like.. do everything.. wireless, TC name.. security.. etc. update the TC.. then return to the network.
NOTE.. no reset on the TC will do anything to data on the TC hard disk ..
You certainly do not have to wipe the laptop.. but if you have continuing wireless issues.. a clean install might be the only way to fix it.. upgrade installs are still bad news.

    Excellent plan.
Can my network operate properly to extend the network with both a wireless and wired extend functionallity?
Yes, but don't get confused about the second AirPort Extreme, as it would not be configured to "extend" a wireless network.....it would be configured to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, security settings and password as the Time Capsule network. Configure the second Extreme in Bridge Mode.
This Apple support document will show you how to hookup and configure the second AirPort Extreme:
